The former soap star will appear in the upcoming 19th series of Silent Witness opposite Emilia Fox in a guest role.
He will play David Hamilton, the son of Tony (Dean Andrews) and Lydia (Geraldine Somerville). David has held his family together while his father was in prison, and has sacrificed going to university to look after his parents following a family tragedy.
Strike said of his role: 'I'm a fan of Silent Witness, so when the opportunity arose to be a part of it, I jumped at the chance.
"I really admire David Drury as a director, so to work with him is very exciting. It's always great to play a character outside of your comfort zone, especially on a platform as successful as Silent Witness."

Midsomer Murders ITV
Despite the demise of Poirot and the unexpected cancellation of Whitechapel, ITV continues to dominate the market for British TV detective shows. Within this genre, there is arguably no show more popular than Midsomer Murders, and more blood has been spilled on the streets of Britain’s most dangerous rural community in the stories included in Acorn’s latest DVD release. Midsomer Murders Set 23 features three tales that are intriguing, unpredictable and just a little bit peculiar.
The trilogy of tales begins with The Dark Rider, a spooky adventure in which local residents are seemingly being tormented by the vengeful spirit of a headless horseman. The guest stars include William Gaunt who is perhaps best known for his role as Martin Clunes’ Dad in No Place Like Home. His onscreen wife is Doctor Who veteran Eleanor Bron while James Callis has his work cut out playing twins.

Michelle Magorian is one of Britain’s most popular authors and it is no surprise that some of her finest works have been dramatized on TV. Inspector Morse actor John Thaw was among the stars who brought Goodnight Mr Tom to life in 1998 and on Sunday 18 December, fans of Michelle’s work can see Just Henry on ITV. As with Goodnight Mr Tom, ITV have spared no expense in assembling an all-star line up for Just Henry that includes Sheila Hancock, Dean Andrews and Elaine Cassidy. Michelle very kindly agreed to talk to Best British TV about the book, the show and her other work.
As a writer do you feel nervous about allowing someone else to bring your book to life in the form of a TV Show?...

Warwick Davis’ new comedy show Life’s Too Short got underway on BBC2 last night and after an uncertain start it actually ended up being quite funny. Davis plays himself in the show but it is done as a spoof documentary during which the Harry Potter star is contending with a divorce, a huge tax bill and a flagging career.
Much of the humor centered around the diminutive actor’s stature. Given that Ricky Gervais is the mastermind behind the show it wasn’t a surprise to see that it reflected his playground-bully brand of humor. Nevertheless, Warwick Davis was convincing as an exaggerated version of himself and he held the episode together during some weak moments in which Ricky Gervais’ and Stephen Merchant’s own performances were...

Christmas comes but once a year and nobody wants to be the British TV fan that Santa Clause forgot. Therefore, we’ve put together a list of stocking stuffers that you can add to your Christmas wish list.
1. The Ride in Dalek. This one is ideally suited for small kids and people who have no issue with spending $200 on inflatables. It is battery operated with a maximum speed of 3 Km (2 miles) per hour. So you couldn’t make a living as a professional driver racing in one of these. Also, so far it is only available in the UK so you may have to pay a premium to a hawk on E-Bay if you want one shipped to the States but isn’t it worth it?
2. Downton Abbey Season Two DVD or Blu-Ray.

Downton Abbey season two came to an end with three weddings and a funeral … well almost. The first wedding went off without a hitch although the groom was arrested for murder the following day. The second wedding hasn’t happened yet but it looks as if will go ahead as planned now that the class divides have been bridged. The third wedding was postponed although the subsequent death of the bride-to-be now means that one-time cripple Matthew Crawley is seemingly destined for a life of bachelorhood.
Downton Abbey writer Julian Fellowes is never a man to let a historic event slip by and the final episode of the season saw several regulars being struck down by the infamous flu epidemic that swept Europe just after World War I. It was...

The show airs on BBC1 starting on Monday 31 October at 2.15pm and the remaining episodes air at the same time over the rest of the week. I recently had the opportunity to talk with Dean about the new show and his prior work.

This post will be chock-full of spoilers, and is meant as a discussion post, rather than a review. Suffice to say, if you like sci-fi, the metaphysical, and procedurals grounded in humanity, as well as brilliant characters and unbelievably strong actors, then give "Ashes to Ashes" a shot, but not before watching the original British series, "Life on Mars." It'll be infinitely frustrating at times, but it's worth the payoff.

I've mentioned a few times on the site how disappointed I was in the British series, "Life on Mars." It was a good procedural built with wonderful characters, with a particular nod to John Simm and, especially, Phillip Glenister, and I did like most of the episodes individually. But I thought the end was a complete cop-out. Essentially, the people behind the series created a complex mystery about why Sam Tyler was stuck in 1972 only, in the end, to give...

Dean Andrews has claimed that Ashes To Ashes ended at the right time. Andrews, who played Ray, told the Daily Record that the show's conclusion was a "double-edged sword". "I loved being part of a great show and had a fantastic time making it so will be sad now it's not around," he said. "But I also think it was the perfect time to finish. It had a great conclusion and hopefully it'll be talked about for a long time, so I'm happy to walk away from a brilliant show with my head held high." Andrews praised the programme's ending, saying: "It had answers to all the questions, a great story to tie it all up, a logical explanation as to why (more)...

BBC America was originally meant to air Season Two of genre-busting drama series Ashes to Ashes last May, following their run of the first season of the Life on Mars sequel series starring Keely Hawes, Philip Glenister, Dean Andrews, Marshall Lancaster, and Montserrat Lombard. Unfortunately, things didn't quite turn out that way. A year later, BBC America is finally bringing Season Two of Ashes to Ashes to American shores, with the first episode slated to air tonight at 10 pm Et/Pt. (It's also the perfect jumping-on point for viewers who may not have seen the first season.) Thanks to a region-free DVD player and a friend in the UK, I've been writing up episodes of Ashes's phenomenally mind-bending third season on a weekly basis over the last few weeks (the series is set to end its three-season run next week in the UK), but I wanted to resurrect my review...

Looks like Ray finally got his heart. In the shared stories of Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes, Di Ray Carling (Dean Andrews) has been a stalwart member of Gene Hunt's team but never the focus of any particular storyline. That decision has granted Ray the illusion of being what he appears on the surface: a misogynistic lackey who is all too willing to follow Gene's instructions and make trouble for Sam Tyler or Alex Drake. But this week's fantastic episode of BBC One's Ashes to Ashes, written by Julie Rutterford and directed by Alrick Riley, shaded in Ray's backstory, rendering a tragic air to his character that was both emotionally wrenching and wholly unexpected. Thoughout the five seasons that comprise Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes, Ray hasn't been the type of character who openly discusses his feelings or his past, yet this week's installment featured a...
