- Other worksAs a professional tubist, Lew Waldeck performed with the New York Philharmonic and the Metropolitan Opera, as well as the big bands of Miles Davis, Sauter-Finnegan and Dizzy Gillespie. He also played with the Florida Symphony, the St., Louis Symphony the New Orleans Philharmonic, L'Orchestra de Paris, the Festival Orchestra and the American Ballet Theater Orchestra. Working with noted conductors (Bernstein, Stokowski, Mehta, Casals) throughout his career, Waldeck also held the position of principal tuba with the New York City Opera Orchestra for 25 years (1958-1983). He can be heard on recordings of the NYC Opera Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic, the New York City Ballet, as well as many popular groups.
