This MTV Dating Series Was a Reality TV Game Changer
Image
MTV's Are You The One was an extremely popular reality show when it first aired back in 2014. The show was first hosted by Ryan Devlin, and then Romeo Miller took over. Are You The One was all about the contestants trying to find their perfect match. The entire cast was put into a house together, and they had to connect and form relationships with each other in order to figure out who was supposed to be paired with whom. Before the show began filming each season, production interviewed each and every contestant about what their type is, what they are looking for in a relationship, and what kind of person they want to meet in the house. After production, they conducted all the interviews and matched each contestant with someone they would seem most compatible with. It was up to the contestants to find their other half. At the end of each week,...

What The Hobbit Animated Movie Did Better Than the Peter Jackson Trilogy
Image
The animated adaptations of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings from the 1970s and 1980s have a bit of a bad reputation these days, but these are not entirely deserved. In particular, Arthur Rankin Jr. and Jules Bass’ 1977 TV movie of The Hobbit, with a screenplay by Romeo Miller, gets a lot of things right that Peter Jackson’s three-part live-action film adaptation did not.

The most obvious advantage that the animated version has over the live-action films is its length. The fact that the live-action movies are too long is pretty well-established, but by way of a reminder, the book of The Hobbit is about 300 pages long, with slight variations in each edition. Other books of similar length that have been adapted into films include Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, Emma Donoghue’s Room, John Green’s The Fault in Our Stars, and Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird.

Is Brotherly Love Based On A True Story?
Image
Brotherly Love is not based on a true story, but director Jamal Hill drew inspiration from his upbringing in Philadelphia to create the characters and the tale. The film has been compared to 1990s classics like Boyz N The Hood and Menace II Society, and though it was not a box office success, it has gained a new audience on Netflix. Overbrook High School in Philadelphia, where the film was partially filmed, has a history of producing famous actors and basketball stars, adding to the speculation that the movie may be based on real-life events.

Brotherly Love depicts the story of three siblings — Sergio, June, and Jackie — as they navigate their different paths in life, and after watching the intense movie, it's easy to wonder about the inspiration behind the film. The 2015 drama stars Eric D. Hill Jr. as Sergio, Cory Hardrict as June, Keke Palmer as Jackie, Quincy Brown as Chris,...

How Master P Used Social Media To Make And Market ‘I Got The Hook-Up 2’
Master P
When Master P decided to make I Got the Hook-Up 2, studios didn’t exactly jump at the chance to finance a sequel to an urban comedy that grossed $10 million at the box office in 1998. The rap mogul wasn’t deterred, though, and instead put up his own money to produce the film, and tapped into the power of social media to fill the cast and market it.

“The studios are not going to let us in,” Master P, real name Percy Miller, told Deadline this week. “They don’t understand that it’s a market for urban movies, urban comedies, all of that.”

Bob Johnson’s Urban Movie Channel in partnership with Rlje Films released I Got The Hook-Up 2 in theaters and VOD on July 12.

The sequel, directed by Corey Grant, grossed $149,036 from 37 theaters its opening weekend, a per-screen average of $4,028.

The film is currently number 31 on the domestic iTunes movie chart,...
