As it turns out, the two-part finale of the USA Network series Monk — titled “Mr. Monk and the End” — was not the end of the story. Tony Shalhoub’s phobia-prone police consultant is returning to TV for Mr. Monk’s Last Case: A Monk Movie. In the TV movie, which starts streaming on Peacock on Friday, December 8, Adrian Monk reemerges to solve a very personal case involving stepdaughter Molly (Caitlin McGee) as she prepares for her wedding. “We’re so delighted to have made a movie version of Monk, and we are thrilled that every one of our stars were so enthusiastic about coming back,” creator Andy Breckman, executive producer David Hoberman, and director Randy Zisk said in a statement. “But in coming back, we wanted to do a film that was worthy of our legacy. Mr. Monk’s Last Case is a story that is powerful, emotional, funny, heartwarming, and...

Plot: Monk returns to solve one last, very personal case involving his beloved stepdaughter Molly, a journalist preparing for her wedding.
Review: Running for eight years on USA, Monk held the title of the most-watched scripted series in cable history until the debut of The Walking Dead. Wrapping up in 2009, Adrian Monk returned briefly in a Covid-19 short showing the Ocd detective coping during the lockdown. Now, fourteen years after the series finale, Monk returns in his first full-length mystery, Mr. Monk’s Last Case. Reuniting the four main stars and a couple of key supporting players, Mr. Monk’s Last Case follows the detective getting back into the groove as he investigates a murder that hits very close to home. Setting up potential future standalone mystery films led by Tony Shalhoub, this is a decent story that plays more like an extended episode of the series rather than a fully realized movie.

More than 13 years ago, the world said goodbye to Adrian Monk (Tony Shalhoub) after eight seasons on the USA Network. Monk is a genius detective riddled with anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and dozens of phobias. And yet, these very qualities make him such an astute investigator — "It's a gift and a curse." Now, fans get one more sample of Monk's gift with a follow-up movie, "Mr. Monk's Last Case." The film is not a "legacy sequel" as is the trend these days, but a classical post-series TV reunion movie. It's not just the main cast that returns either, but "Monk" co-creators Andy Breckmann and David Hoberman and prolific series director Randy Zisk. The reunion feels complete because of it, since their presence means the storytelling of "Mr. Monk's Last Case" feels like, well, "Monk."

Peacock has unveiled the official trailer for Mr. Monk’s Last Case: A Monk Movie.
Featuring Tony Shalhoub reprising the titular role, Mr. Monk’s Last Case will follow the famed detective as he returns for “one last, very personal case,” involving his soon-to-be-married stepdaughter, Molly.
The new trailer opens with a classic moment of endearingly-awkward Monk-ness, as he attempts to be humble after receiving a compliment for his prolific mystery-solving record by saying “I couldn’t have done it alone.” Then, after a few seconds, his commitment to the truth wins out, and he makes the correction: “I could have, but it would’ve taken longer.”
From there, the trailer shows how Monk has adapted to overcome the challenges of the past few years, including the Covid-19 pandemic, which surely caused much distress to the germ-avoiding detective. Watch the trailer below.

Acclaimed mystery-comedy series "Monk," starring Tony Shalhoub as the world's most brilliant, yet neurotic, detective is getting a movie follow-up. "Mr. Monk's Last Case: A Monk Movie" will be distributed by Peacock.
The original "Monk" ran for eight seasons, between 2002 to 2009, on USA Network. A riff on Sherlock Holmes set in modern-day San Francisco, the lead character Adrian Monk (Tony Shalhoub) is a detective afflicted with obsessive-compulsive disorder. This makes him brilliant at his job — he catches details and remembers things no one else does — but also socially awkward. Monk retired from the San Francisco police after the murder of his beloved wife Trudy (Melora Hardin), the one case he never solved. The series follows him coming out of retirement as he tries to solve Trudy's murder — and handles plenty of other investigations along the way.
This movie is set to be a true reunion, too. Shalhoub will be returning...

Exclusive: Netflix has opted not to renew The Good Cop, its hourlong dramedy starring Tony Danza and Josh Groban.
“The Good Cop will not return for a second season,” Netflix said in a statement to Deadline. “We’re grateful to creator Andy Breckman and his fellow producers, writers, the incredible crew and especially stars Tony Danza and Josh Groban for bringing this classic odd couple father-son story to Netflix.” The move is not a surprise as the dramedy, from Monk creator Andy Breckman, had not been able to cut through the clutter and make noise since its Sept. 21 debut. It was part of Netflix’s efforts to expand its portfolio with broad-appeal shows.
The Good Cop starred Danza as Tony Sr., a disgraced former NYPD officer who never followed the rules. He lives with his son, Tony Jr., (Groban), an earnest, obsessively honest NYPD detective who makes a point of always following the rules.

Netflix’s new series “The Good Cop” proves, once again, the streamer’s ambition to compete on every conceivable turf. Set to be released the same day as their shimmering prestige play “Maniac,” “The Good Cop” is a show that aims for as broad an audience as possible—and in the process ends up becoming a show that it’s hard to imagine anyone calling their favorite. A show with frustratingly little on its mind, “The Good Cop” quickly establishes its two leads as familiar personality types and then reiterates who they are, over and over, for ten episodes, with little modulation or development.
Worse, for a show that sets up and solves a new mystery every episode, the show relies on the utter lack of intelligence of both its two leads and everyone around them. The good cop of the title is Tony Caruso Jr., played by Josh Groban...

What if “The Odd Couple” were father and son police officers? You’d get Tony Danza and Josh Groban in Netflix’s new series “The Good Cop.”
Netflix unveiled the first look at its upcoming law enforcement dramedy during its Television Critics Association press tour presentation on Sunday.
The series sees Danza play a not-good-cop former NYPD officer who lives with his son, the very straight-laced Josh Groban. The two become unofficial partners as Tony Sr. (Danza) offers his overly-cautious son blunt, street-wise advice. In the trailer, we find out that Danza’s Tony Sr. is out of prison after seven years (definitely not the “good” cop). Despite this, he remains a favorite of all his former police buddies, much to chagrin of Tony Jr. (Groban), who is more annoyed than grateful of his father’s “helpful” advice.

Sunday was all about the Tonys — and we’re not talking about Broadway’s biggest night.
Netflix dropped the first look at Josh Groban and Tony Danza’s upcoming one-hour dramedy “The Good Cop” tonight, just as the former was hosting the 72nd annual Tony Awards with fellow singer Sara Bareilles.
In the teaser, which reveals the 10-episode first season will be released on September 21, Groban and Danza are a father and son who couldn’t be more different, except for the fact they are both cops named Tony.

Groban (Tony Jr.) does his very best to look like a complete dork with matted down hair and glasses, while sitting next to Danza (Tony Sr.), the portrait of cool, on a couch. It’s very clear there are more than a few issues here that need to be worked out.
