It was 7 a.m. local time when a Russian missile struck the Starlight Media studio in Kyiv on November 13, 2024, ripping through its roof and leaving a gaping hole just meters above the famous MasterChef logo pinned to the wall.
Thankfully, shooting on the 15th season of MasterChef Ukraine was 10 days out and no one was injured or killed, unlike thousands of other less fortunate civilians whose lives have been taken since Russia’s military invasion of Ukraine three years ago. “I can’t imagine what would have happened 10 days later,” says Viktoriia Vyshniakova, head of the show’s studio, which is owned by StarLight Production.

The show Vikings has solidified an image of huge Norsemen warriors, making fans believe that they were an accurate depiction of history. However, Joe Rogan, who loved the Vikings, found out the hard way that these warriors portrayed in the History Channel show might not be accurately shown. Rogan and guest Shane Gillis went through some archaeological sites to find out the differences.

Michael Hirst’s show took inspiration from the sagas of Ragnar Lodbrok, who is one of the most popular Viking heroes. The show follows Ragnar’s journey from a farmer in Kattegat to the warrior who raided England and became the Scandinavian king.

Imagine landing your first acting gig, the kind you’ve dreamt of for years—only to be told you’re not cut out for it. Now, you don’t need to imagine it, because that’s exactly what happened to Katheryn Winnick. The woman who would later portray Lagertha, the fierce shieldmaiden of Vikings, had a rather bumpy start to her career.

The Ontario-born actress, now 47, whose name has been etched in pop culture with unforgettable roles in shows like Wu Assassins and Big Sky, was once given the boot from her very first job. The Dark Tower (2017), will be coming to Netflix on Dec. 1. The film version starred Idris Elba as The Last Gunslinger and Matthew McConaughey as the villainous Man In Black. The film is set in an alternative world where western-like gunslingers fight to protect reality and the fall of the Dark Tower to dark forces.
The film did not perform as hoped at the box office, making just $113 million on a $66 million budget. Co-writer of the film Akiva Goldsman felt the reason behind the failure was due to "pieces shifting" and "too many points of view." The movie holds a 16% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and an audience score of 44%.

There are 246 episodes of Hart Hanson's small-screen procedural "Bones" spanning a whopping 12 seasons, so the fact is that they can't all be winners. Apparently, though, there's a whole group of episodes that intrepid "Bones" fans really can't stand, and those episodes center on Hannah Burley, a journalist who dates series lead Seeley Booth (David Boreanaz) during the show's sixth season.
Why is that? What's wrong with poor Hannah? An easy explanation here is the fact that, throughout "Bones," there's an ongoing "will they, won't they" situation between FBI agent Booth and his colleague at the Jeffersonian Institute, bestselling author and forensic anthropologist Temperance Brennan. By the sixth season, fans have endured a series of near-misses with the couple, which is when Hannah shows up. Throughout seven episodes, Hannah dates Booth after they meet in Afghanistan, and not only does their relationship seem like a direct result of Brennan's recent rejection of Booth,...

When Clive Barker's name-making masterpiece Hellraiser arrived in 1987, it changed everything for horror fans. His sadomasochistic fantasy of androgynous demons was fiercely transgressive, distinctly queer, and totally unique. Seven sequels later, however, it had devolved into a generic teen slasher starring none other than Superman himself, Henry Cavill. In Hellraiser: Hellworld, the iconic Cenobites take a back seat to hard-partying gamers at a house party that seems to have made Mr. Cavill, and the critics, seriously uncomfortable.
Barker's original vision, crystallized in Hellraiser and Hellbound: Hellraiser II, was a Faustian fable of jaded degenerates who seek extreme pleasures in other dimensions. On the other hand, the heroes of Hellraiser: Hellworld seek only random hookups at secret raves; fans hoping to rendezvous with Pinhead will be sorely disappointed. However, die-hard Henry Cavill fans may enjoy seeing the straight-laced superhero play a sex addict...

Released in 2017, The Dark Tower was one of those Stephen King adaptations that fans had been anticipating for decades, but unfortunately, it fell flat on its face and was panned by critics, thus putting an end to the film series before it could even begin. Its streaming availability has been sporadic at best, as the movie has bounced from platform to platform over the years, making it difficult to watch for those who wanted to see what all the fuss was about. Thankfully, The Dark Tower has landed a new home, and starting next month, youll be able to see Roland, Jake, and The Man in Black journey from New York to Mid-World in all their disjointed glory.

As an actor, Jensen Ackles is incredibly recognizable, most notably for his performances in many long-running television series. He has also been in a handful of films, acting first and foremost in live action, but Ackles has also lent his voice to animation. His decades-long career is one that is followed by countless fans, making Ackles' upcoming projects ones that are highly anticipated.
Ackles has been acting since 1996 with the series Wishbone, and after decades in film and television, he has become a household name. Many of his earlier projects have flown under the radar despite some of them being pretty great films, but in more recent years it seems as though his career is only gaining even more traction with eye-catching and potentially even generational roles. Though these are Ackles best roles for now, it is likely that down the line he will be a part of even more iconic shows and movies.

Jeff Lieberman is one of my favorite directors that you don’t hear referenced often enough. He has directed several awesome movies that have dealt with subject matter like killer worms (Squirm), LSD freakouts (Blue Sunshine), homicidal mountain men (Just Before Dawn), brainwashing aliens (Remote Control), and a serial killer stalking the streets on Halloween (Satan’s Little Helper). Thankfully, legendary drive-in critic and movie host Joe Bob Briggs will be shining a spotlight on Lieberman during this year’s special Halloween presentation of his Shudder series The Last Drive-in with Joe Bob Briggs, a special that’s called Joe Bob’s Beelzebub Bash! The special is set to air on Friday, October 25th at 9pm Et on Shudder and AMC+ in the US & Canada.

An archaeologist assesses the historical accuracy of Vikings and Vikings: Valhalla, explaining what the shows get wrong. Airing on the History Channel for six seasons from 2013 to 2020, Vikings follows Ragnar Lothbrok (Alexander Ludwig) and his companions in the 8th century as they explore and do battle. The world of the show would then return as a Netflix original with Vikings: Valhalla, which takes place 100 years later and chronicles the adventures of Leif Erikson (Sam Corlett), Freydis Eriksdotter (Frida Gustavsson), and other historical figures, and the hardships they endure.
In a recent video for Wired, archaeologist Cat Jarman responds to a question on social media regarding the historical accuracy of Vikings and Vikings: Valhalla. Jarman reveals that the two shows are "not very accurate," though many of the characters and events are inspired by those in real history. She singles out the shows' depiction of Lagertha's (Katheryn Winnick) all-female army as...

72-year-old Irish actor Liam Neeson is known worldwide for his action roles, notably the Taken saga, where he has to relentlessly save a loved one taken from him by criminals. However, his extensive filmography also includes some dramas, such as his breakout role in Schindler's List, romantic comedies including Love Actually as a recent widower, and even musicals like Les Misrables where he plays soft-at-heart convict Jean Valjean.
What Neeson is less known for, though, is Westerns. Though the multi-faceted actor has dipped his toes in many genres, he's not necessarily known for starring in Westerns, though he has been in a few. Exceptions can be counted on one hand: Seraphim Falls (2006), A Million Ways to Die in the West (2014), The Ballad of Buster Scruggs (2018), The Marksman (2021), In the Land of Saints and Sinners...

Ragnar Lothbrok's shocking death in Vikings Season 4 was the most unexpected departure of a main character in the series. Ragnar went from farmer to king through successful conquests in Europe, elevating his legend among the other Vikings. Ragnar orchestrated his own death by King lle, ensuring his place as a Viking legend and setting up his sons for vengeance.
Premiering in 2013, the historical drama Vikings originally followed the journey of legendary Norse hero Ragnar Lothbrok. Actor Travis Fimmel, who starred in the Warcraft movie, played the character for the first four seasons. That is, until the Season 4 episode "All His Angels" depicted Ragnar's gruesome death at the hands of one of his greatest enemy, King lle. While the series frequently killed off main characters, from the beginning it was clear that Ragnar Lothbrok was more than just a main character, and that made his death the most shocking by far.

Fans of The Dark Tower have been given a big retrospective glimpse into what might have been if Amazon Studios had backed the original plan to bring Stephen Kings magnum opus to the small screen. The series was a major hit for the network during its first season. However, viewership went down by half with each ensuing season, and critical sentiment around the show would take a similar dive as well.

Stephen King fans have high expectations of Mike Flanagans attempt to bring The Dark Tower to screens in the coming years, but there is a lingering doubt about whether Kings sprawling Western fantasy time-traveling horror adventure (you can see why it is a big ask to adapt) can ever be done justice. Much of the trepidation around adapting the eight novel series, and its interconnected short stories and novels, comes from the disastrous release of the 2017 movie adaptation starring Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey. Now screenwriter Akiva Goldsman has addressed how there is very little to be said about that movie, other than it failed.

Vikings has historical inaccuracies and time jumps that make its timeline confusing, especially regarding aging characters. The series loosely follows Norse sagas and includes some historically accurate events, placing each season in a specific time period. Each Vikings season covers a different part of Viking history, focusing on the lives and travels of Ragnar and his sons.
Vikings covers a large part of Viking history, but given its historical inaccuracies, the shows timeline can be confusing. Loosely based on and modeled after the Norse sagas, Michael Hirsts historical drama TV series has a number of major time jumps as it moves through the legends of Viking history while painting a picture of the shifting world of Scandinavia. Vikings initially focused on the raids and travels of Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel), but as the series progressed, it shifted its focus to Ragnars sons and their own travels.

Into the Badlands is “a high-octane sci-fi martial arts series” created by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar. The AMC series is set in a dystopian future with humanity in ruins because of wars, and it follows the story of Sunny, a fierce warrior who rescues a teenager with a bounty on his head. They both journey through a dangerous territory known as the Badlands to survive. Into the Badlands stars Daniel Wu in the lead role, with Orla Brady, Sarah Bolger, Aramis Knight, Emily Beecham, Oliver Stark, Madeleine Mantock, Ally Ioannides, Marton Csokas, and Nick Frost starring in supporting roles. Into the Badlands is a unique series with a unique setting, and that’s why it is hard to find a series with a similar setting and story elements, but we have tried very hard to find shows with similar story elements and many high-octane action sequences.

Even though "Bones" has been off the air since 2017, the show maintains a loyal following. Audiences followed Emily Deschanel's Brennan and David Boreanaz's Booth for 12 seasons and nearly 250 episodes as they solved crimes while falling in love. That relationship was at the very center of the show from the pilot onward. That being the case, fans of the show had a tendency to not like it when the Brennan/Booth romance was messed with. That's why Katheryn Winnick was given a warning before she accepted her role as Hannah.
Winnick, who would go on to star in shows such as "Vikings" and "Big Sky," stepped into the series relatively late in the game. Her character Hannah Burley was a major player in "Bones" season 6, and one that fans had strong opinions about. She had a fling with Booth in Afghanistan and, in the show's sixth season, she made...

Vikings ended in 2020 after 6 seasons, leaving viewers wondering about Rollo's fate. Rollo's story came to an end in Vikings season 5 after a dramatic family conflict. Rollo's absence in the series finale wasn't the last viewers saw of his family, with his story being continued by his descendents in Vikings: Valhalla.
Vikings ended in 2020 after 6 seasons, and while it gave closure to the arcs of its main characters, it left viewers with a big question about what happened to Rollo after season 5. Created by Michael Hirst, Vikings premiered on History Channel in 2013 as a miniseries, but it was so well received by critics and viewers that it was renewed for a second season shortly after. This allowed the audience to continue following the stories of Ragnar, Lagertha, Floki, and more. Vikings lived on for six seasons, ending in December 2020.

Vikings TV series aired from 2013 to 2020, focusing on the historical saga of the Lodbrok family. The show centered on Ragnar Lothbrok's rise to power as a Viking warrior and king with a focus on his sons. Actors like Travis Fimmel, Katheryn Winnick, and Gustaf Skarsgård brought these characters to life with extensive training.
The cast of Vikings was in charge of bringing to life some of the most notable characters from history and legends, and many of these actors have become well-known names. In 2013, Michael Hirst brought the historical drama Vikings, which, even though wasn’t entirely historically accurate, gave the audience an idea of what some of the biggest names in Viking history did and their impact. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has just about the perfect cast for each and every comic book character they have brought to life. Yet that does not mean that the ‘perfect actors’ would want to continue playing their roles forever (clue Dave Bautista as Drax) and for someone like Brie Larson, who delivered Marvel’s first true bomb in years, the actress must certainly be looking to move outside the realms of the MCU.

Delays are bound to happen when making movies, but something was clearly wrong when Amusement was postponed not once but twice in 2008. It wasn’t long before John Simpson’s American directorial debut was removed from the theatrical schedule altogether and then later dropped on DVD that following year. Although going from the big-screen to direct-to-video is an undeserved fate in some cases, this movie’s new destination was understandable. The unfavorable feedback from an early test screening — the word “disastrous” was tossed around — forced Warner Bros to salvage the potential flop now on its hands. Nevertheless, the negative consensus hasn’t stopped Amusement from amassing a small fan base over the years; its followers focus on this panned movie’s few merits rather than its many shortcomings.
At first, Amusement looks to be an anthology; this horror movie’s first three acts are well defined and almost function as standalone short features.

Throughout their messy and prolonged courtship, "Bones" couple Dr. Temperance Brennan (Emily Deschanel) and FBI agent Seeley Booth (David Boreanaz) played their fair share of romantic musical chairs. They both tested the waters of a workplace relationship fairly early on in the show's run, with Brennan hopping into bed with Booth's FBI colleague Tim "Sully" Sullivan (Eddie McClintock) -- and causing a bit of a ruckus among Fox's censors -- in season 2. This was around the same time that Booth restarted his own amorous association with the then-newly-appointed boss of the Jeffersonian Institute's forensic division, Camille "Cam" Saroyan (Tamara Taylor).

Vikings star Katheryn Winnick made her character Lagertha — a shield maiden, or female warrior — as tough and determined as any of the male warriors fighting in bloody battles on the popular history drama.
And she’s a a kick-ass woman in real life, having earned her first black belt at 13 and opened three martial arts studios in her native Toronto by age 21. But Winnick says her onscreen bravado in Vikings is nothing compared to the fighting spirit she has seen among the Ukrainian people as they defend her family’s ancestral homeland against a continuing Russian onslaught.
“Yes, I may play a warrior on TV. But they’re the real warriors,” Winnick tells The Hollywood Reporter as her fundraising efforts include serving as a UNITED24 Ambassador, alongside fellow actors Liev Schreiber, Mark Strong and Mark Hamill, and her charity The Winnick Foundation partnering with Ukrainian organizations to help rebuild the country.

The film "Killers" features stunning locations from around the world, including Villefranche-sur-Mer, France, which was used for the Nice scenes. The production team also traveled to Nassau, Bahamas, where they filmed action scenes at the Nassau Sheraton Cable Beach Hotel. The suburban scenes in the United States were filmed in Douglasville, Georgia, specifically in the Tributary Community, to contrast with the main character's secret assassin lifestyle.
Killers tells the story of a woman who finds out that she does not know as much about her husband as she initially thought, and as a result, the two go on the run around the world and fight for their lives. The 2010 action comedy starred Ashton Kutcher and Katherine Heigl as Spencer Aimes and Jen Kornfeldt, who met in Nice, France, while on vacation. The couple hit it off and jumping ahead three years later, they were happily married and living in the United States.

Weapons expert Toby Capwell criticizes the historical accuracy of combat scenes in Vikings, pointing out inaccuracies in clothing and helmets especially. Capwell explains that the leather clothing worn by characters has no historical precedent, and that the helmets are 800 years wrong. Despite its historical inaccuracies, Vikings has still managed to become a hit show, highlighting that accuracy is not always the most important factor for success.

ABC had to recently decide the fate of a few of its primetime shows, with Big Sky among the titles not being renewed. This joins the likes of The Company You Keep and Alaska Daily as some of the more surprising cancelations, as these shows offered something unique in their concept. With Big Sky, a show that debuted in 2020, there was a lot that it offered which allowed it to differentiate itself from the prototypical crime dramas. There also was a wealth of untapped stories being that it was based on The Highway books created by C.J. Box. The show’s two leads Katheryn Winnick and Kylie Bunbury also added a new dimension to the series as they led the female-driven cast.

It's that time of year when major networks must decide to renew or cancel TV shows in their current lineups. With 2023's pilot season coming to an end, networks will be forced to make decisions on which shows will stay and which will be scrapped. Some shows will be canceled and forgotten about, while other cancelations have already sparked major backlash from fans across the internet and from stars themselves.
Amidst the cancelations, several popular shows have been renewed for further seasons into 2024. The Joel McHale-led Animal Control on Fox got picked up for a season 2. S.W.A.T. on CBS will air its seventh and final season later this year. It had initially been canceled but was renewed for one more season three days after the cancelation announcement. While these shows were fortunate enough to make the cut, some weren't so lucky. Here are 10 of the biggest shows that just got canceled by their networks.

Three TV dramas have reached the end of the line at ABC: The broadcast network has canceled Big Sky after three seasons and Alaska Daily and The Company You Keep after one apiece. Big Sky, created by prolific TV producer David E. Kelly and adapted from novels by C.J. Box, followed private detective Cassie Dewell (Kylie Bunbury) and undersheriff Jenny Hoyt (Katheryn Winnick) as they investigated crimes in small-town Montana. In Season 3, subtitled Deadly Trails, the duo teamed up with sheriff Beau Arlen (Jensen Ackles) to investigate an ill-fated backcountry trip led by outfitter Sunny Barnes (Reba McEntire). Anna Kooris/ABC Season 3 — which also starred Dedee Pfeiffer as Denise Brisbane, Jamie-Lynn Sigler as Tonya Wallis, and J. Anthony Pena as Deputy Mo Poppernak — had an average 0.25 rating in the 18–49 demographic and averaged 2.28 million live-plus-same-day viewers, down 18 percent and 12 percent from Season 2, respectively, according to TV Series Finale. ABC is saying goodbye to three bubble dramas ahead of the 2023-24 season.
Big Sky, Alaska Daily, and The Company You Keep have all been canceled on the network.
Big Sky is coming to a close after three seasons, with its January season finale serving as a series finale.
The drama averaged 4.8 million total viewers and a 0.5 rating in Live+7 playback, down a bit vs. last season.
The Katheryn Winnick and Kylie Bunbury-led drama was truly a bubble drama.
The show has been a success internationally on the Disney-owned Star, but with ABC becoming home to 9-1-1 and clawing back Dancing With the Stars from Disney+, its chances of a fourth season diminished.
Meanwhile, the Hilary Swank starrer Alaska Daily wrapped its freshman season in March.
It averaged 5.3 million viewers and a 0.4 rating in the demo, meaning that a renewal was very much out of the question.
