The Beekeeper 2 will be directed by Timo Tjahjanto, and written by Kurt Wimmer. Jason Statham is set to reprise his role of Adam Clay, and production is set to start in the fall.

After a heck of a run from his adaptations both good and mediocre, Sphere would be a big enough bomb that it would follow with two straight sub-par adaptations before a quiet death of his worked being put on the big screen. The movie should have been a no doubt success with stars like Dustin Hoffman, Sam Jackson, Sharon Stone and a more than capable, Oscar winning, director in Barry Levinson. What we would end up with is one of the biggest bombs of the late 90s and a movie that is derided or outright forgotten from the annals of 90s cinema. Was it the cast, the story, or the general public being over Chricton things that didn’t have dinosaurs in it that was the culprit.

Discounting the Fast and the Furious franchise, I really enjoy Jason Statham’s films. He has an incredible talent for playing the most ridiculous situations straight, with his deadpan, growling voice. The mix of him being serious plus utterly silly situations makes for extremely fun films (albeit The Meg was a disappointment).

He is also brilliant at the physical aspect of the films. I am sure he has stuntmen, but along with Keanu Reeves, he is one of my favourite action stars working today. He has cornered a market, that other actors might turn their nose up at, or most likely you would get the impression they were “in on the joke”. Statham does not do this, and it is to his great credit.

Children have long been a staple of horror. Sometimes, children are the source of terror, like in Fritz Kiersch’s and Kurt Wimmer’s Children of the Corn adaptions. What we don't often see is horror from a child’s point of view. Children's naïve logic can often lend to a sense of unreality, while their vulnerable position is ideal for maximizing dread in the audience. The iconic Noriaki Yuasa took being trapped inside a child’s perspective to its most extreme with his 1968 The Snake Girl and The Silver-Haired Witch. Through surrealist imagery, Yuasa invokes a hallucinatory effect that perfectly mimics a child’s nightmare.

Putting a dystopian future on the big screen was nothing new in the early 2000s, especially when set in the realm of science-fiction. But making it work also within the action genre is a monumental ask. Really, how often did an all-out action flick want to make its viewers think…especially when the plot revolves around thinking be illegal.

But Kurt Wimmer gave it a go with Equilibrium, which wondered what the world might look like under a totalitarian rule…if there was a lot of gunplay involved. Brushed aside by the studio, critics and moviegoers, Equilibrium has gone on to become a minor cult favorite (including here on JoBlo), something Wimmer could have never seen coming…Just don’t go comparing it to The Matrix in front of him…

Feig is one of many filmmakers who named their favorite films of 2024 in a new article published by IndieWire. Pointing out The Beekeeper, the Ghostbusters: Answer the Call helmer stressed how he's been a big fan of Statham even long before he got to work with the actor on the 2015 movie Spy. Feig went on to give big praise to both Statham and director David Ayer for taking a simple premise and making it highly entertaining, not to mention "cathartic," given its story about con men getting their comeuppance.

Phillip Noyce's 2010 spy thriller "Salt" is a corker of an action movie, with all the requisite thrills, fights, and plot twists that should come naturally to the genre. It's not until you watch a film like "Salt" that you realize how poorly other spy films have done it. It's that good. Angelina Jolie plays Evelyn Salt, an experienced CIA operative who has seen a lot of time in the field. At the beginning of the film, the CIA takes in a Russian defector and Evelyn is assigned to interrogate him. He reveals that there's a secret Russian mole inside the CIA, stating that her name ... is Evelyn Salt. Oh no!

Salt evades capture from her CIA colleagues and goes on the lam, hoping to clear her name. Does she have Russian sympathies or has she been wrongfully accused? There are many additional twists throughout, and I will leave them for you to discover.

October will see the 2015 remake of Point Break surf onto Netflix, bringing the heavily criticized movie to a new audience and once again setting it up for another bashing from fans of the Patrick Swayze and Keanu Reeves 1991 original. However, it is hard to expect the movie to be a dud when it hits the platform, as many such movies have discovered a surge in interest when landing on the streaming service.
