He died at his home of a brain hemorrhage after falling down stairs.
He trained at RADA 1955 -1959 which was interrupted by having to do his national service and made his theatrical debut at the Liverpool Playhouse in 1959 as the Theatre Manager in "Heartbreak House".
He made his West End debut in Otherwise Engaged at the Queens Theatre in 1975.
