Harvey Weinstein’s Defense Team Pushes Accuser Kaja Sokola on Diary and Career Aspirations
Image
In Tuesday’s cross examination of Kaja Sokola, one of the three accusers in the trial against Harvey Weinstein, the former mogul’s defense team sought to use a journal she had kept in 2015 against her.

The appearance of the journal, which Sokola said was related to treatment she had undergone for alcohol abuse and which was brought forward by her sister from Poland after a subpoena was issued against her, led to Sokola calling its unveiling “very inappropriate” and “unethical.”

“I’m not on trial here!” Sokola said, raising her voice.

“I’m wondering how this got into your possession,” she said, adding that it had been in Poland. “I haven’t seen these in many, many years.”

While he called it “intrusive,” Judge Curtis Farber allowed the use of the journal, which had been obtained by the defense team, in limited scope, after a morning and post-lunch discussion...

Former Model Kaja Sokola Testifies Against Harvey Weinstein For Alleged Assault When She Was 19
Image
Kaja Sokola, the newest accuser in Harvey Weinstein’s criminal trial, teared up on the stand Thursday saying her “soul was removed” when the former studio mogul allegedly forced oral sex on her during a hotel room encounter in 2006.

Sokola is one of three complaining witnesses in the retrial against Weinstein. Unlike the other two witnesses, Miriam Haley and Jessica Mann, Sokola did not testify at Weinstein’s last trial. His 2020 conviction was overturned in April 2024 when the court of appeals ruled that the trial judge improperly allowed testimony from other women about uncharged allegations against Weinstein.

Sokola’s name was first made public in connection to this case during opening statements for the new trial on April 23. However, she has previously been involved in civil litigation against Weinstein’s brother Bob Weinstein, Disney and Miramax in 2019 and later won a $3 million settlement related to another sexual assault, that is uncharged in this case,...

John Wick's 'Gun-Fu' Action Style Was Originally Designed For A Jason Statham Movie [Exclusive]
Image
When "John Wick" blasted into theaters on October 24, 2014, moviegoers lost their minds over the film's inventive amalgam of hand-to-hand combat and gunplay. It was doubly impressive due to Keanu Reeves' seemingly effortless facility for performing many of his own stunts. Obviously, no one was surprised that the star of "The Matrix" franchise could brawl and shoot convincingly, but the degree of difficulty appeared to be off the charts. Just when you think you've seen every possible iteration of martial arts combat on screen, along comes stuntman-turned-director Chad Stahelski to show action junkies that there's still plenty of room for throwdown innovation.

If you're a hardcore fan of the genre, you know that filmmakers have blended these gunplay and hand-to-hand combat before. The Wachowskis first introduced the idea in "The Matrix," which inspired Kurt Wimmer to go utterly gonzo by inventing "gun kata" in his ludicrously entertaining "Equilibrium." Wimmer was so...

The Wild, Complete Story Behind Kevin Smith Reclaiming Dogma For Re-Release
Image
Kevin Smith will always be known best as the kid from New Jersey who made a little low-budget, black and white movie called "Clerks" that launched an unlikely career. Smith's filmography has its ups and downs over the years, but his 1999 religious comedy "Dogma" about an abortion clinic worker who is called upon to save humanity from two renegade angels has increasingly been looked upon as one of his better directorial efforts.

Smith is taking the movie out on tour as we speak at theaters across the country ahead of a full theatrical re-release this summer. For years, "Dogma" was unavailable to even rent or stream because the rights were tied up by former Miramax head and disgraced executive Harvey Weinstein. So, how did the rights to this film finally get sorted out? The story is pretty wild.

/Film's Ethan Anderton recently attended a screening of "Dogma" with a Q...

Harvey Weinstein Faked Interest in a ‘Dogma’ Sequel to See If Kevin Smith Was Leaking to ‘The New York Times’
Image
This past weekend, Kevin Smith began his Dogma: The Resurrection Tour, which involves screening the 1999 Biblical satire in movie theaters across the country and answering audience questions. As of this writing, no one involved with the Catholic church has attempted to blame the death of the Pope on the return of Dogma.

After Smith’s tour, Dogma will be getting a wide theatrical re-release, a Blu-ray edition and presumably more sequels that only exist in the director’s head. But all of this is only possible because, as we’ve mentioned before, Smith regained the rights to Dogma from real-life shit monster Harvey Weinstein.

Not only did Weinstein hoard the movie for decades, rendering it inaccessible for fans, according to Smith, he once dangled the possibility of expanding the Dogma-verse in front of eyes, but only because he had ulterior motives.

During a promotional stop on The Woody Show,...

New Harvey Weinstein Accuser Revealed as Opening Statements Begin in Retrial
Image
Opening arguments in Harvey Weinstein’s retrial on rape and sexual charges in Manhattan began Wednesday, with prosecutors previewing testimony from two accusers at his 2020 trial as well as claims from a new accuser.

Weinstein is being retried on a criminal sexual charge and a rape charge related to respective claims from former production assistant on Project Runway, Miriam Haley, who alleges he forced oral sex on her at his TriBeCa apartment in 2006, and from aspiring actress Jessica Mann, who alleges she was raped by Weinstein in 2013 in a Manhattan hotel.

Weinstein is being newly charged with a criminal sexual charge related to claims from a third woman, Kaja Sokola, whose name was publicly revealed as part of the trial for the first time Wednesday.

Sokola was a model and actress who met Weinstein for the first time in 2002 when she was 16, and remained in contact with him for career opportunities,...

Can Miramax Bounce Back? Inside the Post-Weinstein Makeover That Includes Reboots, Remakes and Sydney Sweeney
Image
It wouldn’t be “Scary Movie” without the Wayans brothers.

When Jonathan Glickman took over as head of Miramax a year ago, the studio was struggling to reboot the franchise. Glickman knew that a successful relaunch required one essential ingredient — the involvement of Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans and Keenen Ivory Wayans, the siblings who gave those popular comedies their subversive spark.

“You need to have some connective tissue with the original property,” Glickman says. “It gives legitimacy to a project so it doesn’t seem like just a cash grab.”

But getting the Wayanses wasn’t easy. The brothers believed that Harvey and Bob Weinstein, the bullying, bare-knuckle and (in the case of Harvey) disgraced founders of Miramax, had given them a “crappy” deal on the first film in the series, released in 2000, then “stole” their idea. By the time the third, fourth and fifth “Scary Movie” hit theaters, the Wayanses were no longer involved.

Harvey Weinstein NYC Rape Trial Jury Seated With Female Majority; Opening Statements Wednesday
Image
Harvey Weinstein’s latest New York rape trial will see opening statements tomorrow now that a jury has finally been chosen.

With the last alternate picked Tuesday after over a week of selection of literally hundreds of people, the much accused Pulp Fiction producer will plead his fate to a panel of seven women and five men as well as five alternates.

Now under guard at Bellevue Hospital as opposed to the harsh Rikers Island, for the remainder of the nearly two-month long trial, the often ailing 72-year-old Weinstein’s retrial comes from his 23-year sentence from a 2020 rape conviction, which was tossed out in 2024. There is also now one additional count of Criminal Sexual Act in the First Degree, which was added to the indictment last September.

If found guilty again, under a new judge, Weinstein will likely spend the rest of his life behind bars.

Today, Weinstein’s...

The Lord of the Rings: Chaos Behind The Scenes As Weinsteins Tried To Remove Jackson & Rewrite The Fellowship
Image
Lord Rings Jackson Weinsteins Clash(Photo Credit –Wikimedia)

The Lord of the Rings nearly lost its magic before it ever hit theaters, and it had nothing to do with Orcs. At one point, the Weinsteins wanted to fire Peter Jackson, shrink the trilogy into one film, and kill off three Hobbits.

Back in the early development stages, The Lord of the Rings was a Miramax project. Peter Jackson had signed a first-look deal with the studio. Harvey Weinstein, at first, seemed thrilled. “Harvey was excited,” Jackson’s manager Ken Kamins told The Independent. “We found that very encouraging and thought we’d have room to tell the stories.”

But trouble started brewing fast. The Disney-owned Miramax wasn’t ready to gamble on a sprawling fantasy epic. Disney had capped budgets, and Lord of the Rings was way over their limit. “When Disney realized the budget and that we were going to shoot the films back-to-back,...

Kevin Smith’s Lost Movie ‘Dogma’ Returning to Theaters for Anniversary Screenings
Image
For the past few years, it’s been near impossible to watch Kevin Smith’s 1999 religious comedy Dogma because Harvey and Bob Weinstein personally owned the rights, and they’ve faced more pressing matters in recent years than finding a new home for it. But The Hollywood Reporter reports that Smith has finally regained the rights to his film, and it’s returning to theaters on June 5. Prior to that, Smith will appear at special Dogma screenings all across the country, kicking off April 20 at the Grove in Los Angeles.

Worst Oscar Robbery of All Time: Harvey Weinstein Is the Culprit Behind Steven Spielberg’s Movie Losing the Best Picture?
Image
Sometimes, the greatest victories come at the cost of the most bitter truths. This line, though perhaps a little melodramatic, captures the essence of what went down at the 1999 Oscars when Shakespeare in Love snatched the Best Picture award right out of the hands of Steven Spielberg’s Saving Private Ryan.

It was supposed to be Spielberg’s moment—his magnum opus about World War II, Saving Private Ryan, had critics and audiences on their knees in awe. Yet, the award went to Shakespeare in Love, a light-hearted period comedy. But this wasn’t just a regular upset; it was a strategic victory reportedly orchestrated by none other than Harvey Weinstein.

Let’s take a deeper look at how one man’s relentless campaign reshaped Oscar campaigning and changed the industry forever.

Epstein’s Contact List Explained: Is It Confirmed Michael Jackson, Ivanka Trump and Ralph Fiennes Went to Epstein’s Island?
Image
Donald Trump’s Department of Justice has released new documents that could be helpful in the investigation of Jeffrey Epstein’s case, including his contact list and flight logs. It was a major disappointment for the people, though, as the said file did not reveal any explosive information.

In fact, it did not mention any names of celebrities, politicians, or high-profile figures who are confirmed to have been guests on his private island. All we have for now is a list of Epstein’s contact list whose names are familiar to the public.

Jeffrey Epstein’s contact list revealed several well-known celebrities and politicians

On Thursday afternoon, Jeffrey Epstein’s documents were released to selected right-wing social media influencers, and they were reportedly underwhelmed with the revelation. A source who had seen the files told the New York Post that they looked into a hundred pages of phone book,...

Epstein’s List Actors and Celebs: Bob Weinstein Has a Bigger Problem to Worry About Than Harvey Weinstein’s Fraud Claims
Image
Harvey Weinstein’s brother, Bob Weinstein, might need to watch his back while he deals with the lawsuit filed against him.

As promised, President Donald Trump released the “first phase” of documents related to Jeffrey Epstein and his contact list. While the 200-page long binder did not provide any breaking news related to the Epstein List, it did unveil a few big names who had been on his contact list. From Mick Jagger and Michael Jackson to Alec Baldwin and Ivanka Trump, the documents only confirmed what the masses had been suspecting all this time.

One such name on the list was that of Bob Weinstein, film producer and the founder of Dimension Films, as well as the former co-chairman of Miramax Films and The Weinstein Company. Harvey Weinstein, now in jail, filed a lawsuit against his brother and a few others alleging financial fraud and conspiracy.

The Justice Department of the U.S. has released a document relating to the notorious s*x predator Jeffrey Epstein on Thursday evening, February 26th. The list includes a contact list and flight logs. Fact Check: Is Donald Trump in Epstein’s List? Ivanka Trump and Donald Trump’s Ex-wife Named in Epstein’s Contact List

The Justice Department released the ‘Epstein Binder’, which contained documents like a contact list, flight logs, and other evidence related to s*x predator Jeffrey Epstein. U.S. President Donald Trump once maintained close ties with the disgraced financier. However, Trump’s name did not appear in the contact list released, and there is no proof that he was on the infamous ‘Epstein List’.

‘Reindeer Games’ at 25: Why John Frankheimer’s Maligned Would-Be Christmas Cult Classic Deserved Better
Image
On paper, the heist movie “Reindeer Games” should have been a slam-dunk. It had action master John Frankenheimer at the helm, a buzzy cast of rising stars and reliable character actors chewing the scenery, and a clever premise in which a crew dressed as Santa Clauses robs a casino at Christmastime.

Yet “Reindeer Games” landed with a thud 25 years ago — critics mostly hated it, and it flailed at the box office, opening at number three behind the kids’ movie “Snow Day” and the Bruce Willis vehicle “The Whole Nine Yards” before disappearing from theaters entirely just a few weeks later. Was it really that bad, or just a victim of bad timing? And was there a better film to be found in the footage Frankenheimer shot before test screenings led to months of reshoots and editing-room meddling by financiers Harvey and Bob Weinstein?

These questions can largely be answered via...

Harvey Weinstein Accuses Brother Bob of Financial Betrayal in Lawsuit
Image
Harvey Weinstein, who is jailed at Rikers Island and in failing health while he awaits his third rape trial, has filed an unusual lawsuit accusing his brother of siphoning funds from their company prior to its collapse.

In the complaint, filed in New York State court, Harvey Weinstein accuses his brother Bob Weinstein and David Glasser, the chief operating officer, of diverting funds to pay themselves bonuses and for other improper purposes.

The complaint seeks to reassign blame for the collapse of the Weinstein Co. in November 2017. The company filed for bankruptcy after the revelation of Harvey Weinstein’s decades of sexual assault and harassment allegations made him an industry pariah. But in Weinstein’s telling, his brother, Glasser and others were responsible for a “financial betrayal” that left the company weakened and ultimately insolvent.

Weinstein filed the complaint in response to a long-dormant breach of contract suit, which was...

As NYC Rape Retrial Looms, Harvey Weinstein Sues Brother & TWC Execs Over $45M Loan From 2016
Image
Harvey Weinstein is set to go to trial again in New York City for rape in April, however in the meantime, the incarcerated former producer is lashing out legally at his brother Bob Weinstein and former COO David Glasser over an old $45 million loan that was supposed to save The Weinstein Company in 2016.

Seeking a self-described “claw back of any improperly appropriated or ill gained assets and/or monetary sums taken by Third-Party Defendants” and other damages, Weinstein’s filing is “an action for fraud arising from the Defendants’ inducement of Weinstein to sign as a personal guarantor for a $45 million business loan from AI International Holdings (Bvi) Limited to TWC Borrower 2016, LLC, which the Defendants then pilfered and misappropriated for their own uses and benefits, in blatant violation of the loan’s intended purpose, wrongfully leaving Weinstein solely liable for repayment when AI International, as the lender, sought to enforce the guarantee.

Harvey Weinstein Sues Brother Bob for Fraud, Misappropriation of Funds
Image
Incarcerated movie producer and convicted rapist Harvey Weinstein is suing his brother and fellow Weinstein Company co-founder Bob Weinstein for fraud.

Weinstein filed a suit his against his brother last week in the Supreme Court of the State of New York. The suit adds his brother, former Weinstein Company president and COO David Glasser, former Weinstein Co. EVP of Accounting and Financial Reporting Irwin Reiter and several other unnamed persons as third parties in a complaint that was first filed against him by AI International Holdings in 2017.

That initial complaint demanded the immediate repayment of a $45 million loan that Weinstein procured with a personal guarantee from AI International in September 2016.

Weinstein’s suit alleges that his brother, Glasser, Reiter, and others made “knowingly false” misrepresentations about the purpose of the loan, inducing the #MeToo subject into guaranteeing the loan himself, which he believed was going to be used for “operational...

Harvey Weinstein Sues Bob Weinstein On Fraud, Financial Conspiracy Claims
Image
Harvey Weinstein has sued his brother, Bob Weinstein, and another executive at the Weinstein Company alleging fraud and a conspiracy to push him out of the company.

The suit, filed in the Supreme Court of the State of New York Saturday, alleges that Bob Weinstein, Weinstein Company executive David Glasser and others got Harvey Weinstein to guarantee a $45 million loan from AI International Holdings to support the film production and distribution company. However, the suit alleges that the money was not used to help the company, but rather that Bob Weinstein and Glasser took the money for “personal use, unauthorized bonuses, and unrelated financial dealings.”

“As he claims in his complaint, Harvey Weinstein was deceived by those closest to him, and secured a $45 million dollar loan under the pretense of saving The Weinstein Company. While Harvey personally guaranteed the loan, others within The Weinstein Company enriched themselves and strategically undermined him,...

Guillermo del Toro’s career is filled with gems, with only a few dings along the way. Kevin Smith Announces ‘Dogma’ Sequel, Expects Affleck and Damon to Return
Kevin Smith
Director Kevin Smith confirmed plans for a sequel to his 1999 religious comedy “Dogma” at the 2016 Vulture Festival. Original stars Ben Affleck and Matt Damon are expected to return in significant parts.

Smith directly addressed potential fan skepticism, noting that some may hesitate to revisit the cult favorite. “Some people will say, ‘Don’t f—ing touch it. “You’ll ruin it,” Smith warned. “And I’m here to tell you: I will.”

The project follows a meaningful step in which the film’s long-standing rights concerns were resolved. Previously owned by Harvey and Bob Weinstein, the rights have been purchased by an undisclosed business. This accomplishment paves the way for a sequel, a 25th anniversary theatrical re-release, and a new 4K home media edition.

Smith expressed confidence in Affleck and Damon’s roles, promising more than a cameo. “The only way we get a ‘Dogma’ sequel made is if they’re there,...

Scary Movie 6 to Feature Return of the Wayans Brothers
Image
If Miramax and Paramount Pictures wanted to get fans interested in the Scary Movie franchise again, this was the exact way to do it. After being ousted from the franchise after 2001's Scary Movie 2, The Wayans Brothers are returning to the series they created for the first time in over twenty years. This represents a full-circle moment for them, who will now get to resurrect the brand for a new generation, following how dirty they were treated once the franchise changed hands because of the Weinstein brothers and Dimension Films.

Per Deadline, Miramax and Paramount Pictures are spearheading the new Scary Movie, first announced at CinemaCon, with The Wayans brothers being brought back to help craft the new film's original screenplay. The project is expected to begin shooting next year, and a full theatrical release is planned for the film. The Wayans brothers will also be getting a screenwriting help from Rick Alvarez,...

Guillermo del Toro on Why His Father Getting Kidnapped Wasn’t Worse Than Working for Harvey Weinstein: ‘The kidnapping made more sense’

It looks like the behind-the-scenes of Hollywood is getting more and more attention these days. The whole situation with rapper Diddy has been a hot topic for a while, but Harvey Weinstein can’t be forgotten. The film producer has been in prison for a few years now after being convicted of s*x crimes. Guillermo del Toro, who had a movie produced by his production company, opened up about the stress he faced during that time.

Where Is Bob Weinstein? Brother of Harvey Answers the Question With Three New Films
Image
For the past few years, Bob Weinstein has been quietly setting up movies under a new label, Watch This Entertainment. On Oct. 11, the first of those films, Seven Cemeteries, will arrive in theaters and on-demand courtesy of Quiver Distribution.

Seven Cemeteries comes to screens as Bob’s older brother and former business partner, Harvey Weinstein, is awaiting a retrial of his landmark 2020 rape conviction, which was overturned in April, and facing a new sexual assault charge in New York.

Directed by John Gulager, produced by Joel Soisson and Talia Bella, and starring Danny Trejo as an ex-con some ranchers hire to protect them from a drug lord, Seven Cemeteries is a return to horror. Bob made his mark in the genre as the founder of Dimension Films in 1992, once Miramax’s profitable horror label and the original home of the Scream and Scary Movie franchises. "I Almost Got Killed Over It": Kevin Smith Got "Bona Fide Death Threats" For 1999 Comedy Movie
Image
Kevin Smith has shared that he received death threats over his 1999 comedy film Dogma. The fourth film in Smith's View Askewniverse series deals with religious themes and Catholicism. Singer Alanis Morissette even played Smith's version of God in the film.

While speaking with EW, Smith reminisced about his films, including Clerks (1994) and Mallrats (1995). When talking about Dogma, Smith said that the film received thousands of angry letters due to the film's religious subject matter. This included receiving three death threats. Smith's full quote about the angry reaction to the film can be found below:

Marlon Wayans Explains How the Weinsteins Stole Scary Movie 3
Image
Back in 2000, director Keenan Ivory Wayans, with a great writing assist from his brothers Marlon Wayans and Shawn Wayans, launched Scary Movie to great financial success. The film was a spoof of the popular horror films that emerged during the late '90s, such as Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer, and the response was overwhelmingly positive so much so that a sequel was quickly released just a year later. When Scary Movie 3 came to fruition, fans were surprised to learn that the Wayans Brothers were out of the franchise, replaced by director David Zucker and his team. Now, all these years later, Marlon Wayans is revealing how the franchise was stolen from him and his brothers, and how the studio used their pitch for the third film anyway.

During an appearance on Shannon Sharpe's podcast Club Shay Shay, Marlon Wayans revealed that Harvey and...

Marlon Wayans Blasts the Weinsteins for Stealing His ‘Scary Movie 3’ Ideas
Image
While there is certainly no shortage of reasons to hate Harvey and Bob Weinstein, you can add “the way they treated the Wayans family” to the staggeringly long list.

It’s easy to forget just how wildly popular the first entry in the long-running Scary Movie franchise was. Directed by Keenen Ivory Wayans, 2000’s Scary Movie made a whopping $278 million at the worldwide box office. To put that in perspective, Scream, the movie it was directly parodying, only made $173 million. And the Wayans’ Scary Movie 2 was also a big hit, even without that cameo from Marlon Brandon.

Despite these achievements, Ivory Wayans, as well as his brothers and co-writers Shawn Wayans and Marlon Wayans, weren’t a part of Scary Movie 3. Why? Marlon has previously bemoaned the “evil” and “disrespectful” Weinsteins, whose company produced the Scary Movie films. Now he’s provided even more details about what happened while...

1408 Director Explains the Alternate Endings to His 2007 Stephen King Adaptation
Image
2007's 1408 had a cathartic ending compared to the Stephen King short story, but the director's cut revealed a darker (and scarier) version. Director Mikael Hfstrm said they scrapped that in favor of an emotionally rewarding conclusion.

Horror fans are spoiled for options when it comes to film and TV adaptations of Stephen King's work. Many debate the faithfulness of the onscreen versions despite standouts like Misery, Carrie, and The Shawshank Redemption. 1408 was not spared from criticism when it was released in 2007, especially when it was later confirmed the ending had four versions. In an interview with The Kingcast, director Mikael Hfstrm debunked initial reports that the alternate endings were filmed in response to poor test screenings. He asserted these were all shot during additional photography, and the theatrical ending was the version they wanted all along. He said this was the correct choice in retrospect, considering how audiences responded to the "happier" conclusion.

Stephen King Director Explains Why 1408 Has Multiple Endings (& Which One Is His Favorite)
Image
With the movie having ended in multiple fashions, director Mikael Hfstrm breaks down the reasons behind 1408's multiple endings and which is his favorite. The 2007 horror movie served as an adaptation of Stephen King's short story of the same name, in which skeptical supernatural investigative author Mike Enslin ignores a warning to not stay in the titular room at a fictional New York hotel, only to discover it to be far more haunted than he imagined. Led by John Cusack and Samuel L. Jackson, 1408 earned largely positive reviews, finding further success on home media, where three alternate endings were revealed.

During a recent interview with The Kingscast, Hfstrm reflected on his experience bringing King's 1408 to life with the 2007 movie. When asked about the alternate endings and reports of poor test screenings, the director quickly debunked those reports, revealing the various endings came from a desire to "experiment...

Quentin Tarantino Is Responsible For Casting A Key Role In One Of The Best Stephen King Movies
Image
1408 director Mikael Hfstrm reveals how one of the lead roles was cast based on a Quentin Tarantino recommendation. 1408 is based on a Stephen King short story of the same name. The story revolves around supernatural skeptic author Mike Enslin's (John Cusack) investigation of a supposed haunted hotel room and the events that unfold during his stay.

In an interview with The Kingcast, Hfstrm shares an anecdote about how Jackson was cast in the role. Tarantino read the script, and despite not matching the physical description, he recommended that his frequent collaborator Samuel L. Jackson play the role of the hotel manager, Olin. Hfstrm took Tarantino's advice and ultimately cast him in the role.

Olin is written in the script as a balding white guy. When we were trying to figure out who's going to play him, Bob Weinstein called me one day and said "Quentin Tarantino read the script,...

From Dogma to Panic Room: more hard-to-find movies (keep your DVDs)
Image
A few months ago, I wrote an article listing ten movies that – despite being well known – were difficult to find (legally) on any streaming service or even on disc. Those titles ranged from Ron Howard’s Cocoon to movies like Dawn of the Dead (the original). In the comments, many of our readers chimed in with their two cents on films they’ve found difficult to find over the years, so here are a few more challenging-to-find flicks, some of which may surprise you.

Panic Room:

The fact that David Fincher’s Panic Room has never been issued on Blu-ray blows me away. It’s been announced a few times, but a physical release never seems to happen (although you can stream it in HD pretty easily). What gives? You’d think the fact that it has Fincher’s name on it, and stars Jodie Foster, Kristen Stewart, Forest Whitaker,...

Incredible Movies You Can't Stream in the US
Image
Cbr does not, nor will we ever, support the actions of Harvey Weinstein. That said, we remain supportive of those who were victimized by the actions of the producer.

These days, streaming is a default method of watching a movie or TV show for many folks, and understandably so. While streaming is a feat of modern technology, it does have flaws, and unfortunately, its not even worth it for everyone, as some fantastic movies are nowhere to be found.

The age of streaming has made entertainment more accessible and easier for audiences. Someone can watch a new movie from their couch or while on the go, and viewers dont always have to wait a week for a new episode. DVDs are practically obsolete, with streaming giants like Netflix replacing DVD rental services like Blockbuster and Redbox. Unfortunately, streaming services arent immune to intense competition, as individual studios have created individual streaming services over the years,...

Filming Challenges and Support

Born on February 12, 1980, in Santa Monica, California, Ricci was just 20 years old when filming the nude scenes for Prozac Nation.

Just a few months younger, Michelle Williams was born on September 9, 1980, in Kalispell, Montana, and celebrated her 21st birthday on September 9, 2001.

During the filming of the nude scene in Prozac Nation, Christina Ricci’s co-star, Michelle Williams, provided support by monitoring the footage. She ensured Christina felt comfortable with how she was being portrayed by watching the scene unfold on the screen and reassuring her that everything looked appropriate.

Harvey Weinstein 2020 Rape Conviction Overturned in New York
Image
Disgraced Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein’s 2020 rape conviction has been overturned by New York’s top appeals court.

After an appeal process, the court found there were “egregious errors” committed in the original trial, according to the Associated Press, including the court’s allowance of testimony from three women speaking to “uncharged, alleged prior sexual acts” that were unrelated to the rape charge. The argument from Weinstein’s side is that the Miramax founder could not take the stand in his defense on the actual charges without also being cross-examined on the uncharged accusations.

The New York Court of Appeals vote was a close one: Weinstein’s conviction was overturned 4-3.

“We conclude that the trial court erroneously admitted testimony of uncharged, alleged prior sexual acts against persons other than the complainants of the underlying crimes,” the majority decision said. “The remedy for these egregious errors is a new trial.

While at Panoramic, Glickman produced Amazon/MGM’s Creed 3 and The Underdoggs, and executive produced Netflix’s Wednesday. “Why isn’t Johnny Depp doing this movie?”: Matt Damon Couldn’t Believe a $105M Heath Ledger Movie Chose Him Over the Pirates Star
Image
After desperately clinging to his dream project, The Man Who Killed Don Quixote, when the film got postponed by decades, Terry Gilliam shifted his focus to The Brothers Grimm. Making a winning combination from the start, Gilliam used his specialization in the bleak and strange to turn Heath Ledger and Matt Damon’s 2005 movie into the most beloved, dark fairy tales of all time.

Matt Damon in The Brothers Grimm

Although The Brothers Grimm featured a stellar cast including Jonathan Pryce, Monica Bellucci, Lena Headey, and more, it was reported that Terry Gilliam initially wanted Johnny Depp instead of Matt Damon. Considering Gilliam’s preference towards Depp, even Damon was baffled when he was hired for the $105M movie, in place of the Pirates star.

Why We'll Probably Never See Mark Wahlberg's Six Million Dollar Man Reboot
Image
This is going to stun anyone who grew up on 21st century superhero cinema (which kicked off in 2000 with Bryan Singer's "X-Men" and only now seems to be on the wane), but what if I told you that in the 1970s, there were television series dedicated to the Hulk, Wonder Woman, and Spider-Man, and they weren't the main small-screen pop cultural obsessions for sci-fi/fantasy fans? Not even close.

This is because every kid in America was crazy about "The Six Million Dollar Man."

Based on the novel "Cyborg" by Martin Caidin, "The Six Million Dollar Man" starred Lee Majors as astronaut Steve Austin, who's saved from certain death after the crash of an experimental aircraft when he is transformed into an experimental superhuman being via bionic implants. As the show's opening credits reminded us every week, these scientists made Majors "bigger, stronger, faster." He was as powerful as a bulldozer,...

Jon Glickman In Talks For Miramax CEO Post
Image
Jon Glickman is in talks to become the next CEO of Miramax Films. a post that has been vacant since Bill Block exited last fall.

Glickman left MGM and formed Panoramic, a monied venture that would be acquired as part of the deal if it makes, our sister publication THR reported and Deadline confirmed. We’ve heard there has been at least one more candidate, so it is not clear at this moment if the deal will close.

A well liked seasoned production executive, Glickman ran Spyglass for a decade before his run at MGM. He was very involved in the Daniel Craig James Bond films, and the Creed films.

Block’s contract was not renewed by Miramax, which is 51% owned by beIN and 49% by Paramount Global. While the company’s profits grew and films like the Halloween relaunch, The Gentlemen, The Beekeeper, and the Best Picture nominated Alexander Payne-directed The Holdovers,...

Jonathan Glickman in Talks to Lead Miramax as CEO (Exclusive)
Image
Miramax may have found its new leader. Jonathan Glickman, the former MGM executive, is in talks to join Miramax as its CEO, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.

He would step in for former CEO Bill Block, who departed last year after a six-year run.

Glickman served as motion group president at MGM for nine years, where under his tenure, James Bond became a billion-dollar franchise. He also shepherded the rejuvenation of the Rocky franchise, relaunching it as the Creed movie series starring Michael B. Jordan. He departed the studio at the top of 2020 for a first-look producing deal with MGM, and two years later launched Panoramic Media.

As part of his deal to become CEO, Miramax would acquire Panoramic, which has its hand in several noteworthy properties, including the Addams Family animated movies and the Netflix Addams-centric series Wednesday, which helped propel star Jenna Ortega to the A-list.

Prior to running MGM,...

Horror Movies That Should've Been Rated R
Image
In World Wrestling Entertainment, the period from July 22, 2008, to March 22, 2014, remains known as the "PG era," owing to how Vince McMahon adjusted the content to achieve a TV-pg rating after the TV-14 fare in the so-called "Attitude" and "Relentless Aggression" eras of the 1990s and early-to-mid 2000s. (via Sportscaster)

WWE had caught up with Hollywood, where a similar wave of chlorine had washed over mainstream cinema and sanitized dozens of projects including "Live Free or Die Hard," "Terminator Salvation," "Hancock," and "Fired Up." These films and many more were stripped of violence, swearing, and sexuality in order for the MPA to grant the studios a PG-13 rating and access to the lucrative teen demographic. Such money-mindedness proved bad enough for the action and comedy genres, but it was arguably even worse for horror filmmakers, who risked self-censorship unless they worked within the thriving "torture porn" fare of "Saw" and "Hostel.

Larry Charles Released the Movie He Set Out to Make: “That’s a Miracle in Hollywood”
Image
Larry Charles’ résumé is all over the place. As a writer, he penned some of Seinfeld’s most memorable episodes (see: “The Library”). As a TV director, he skewered his industry with Curb Your Enthusiasm and Entourage. As a filmmaker, he embraced mockumentary with Borat and Brüno. But his latest entry, by his own admission, might be his most unhinged to date. He just released Dicks: The Musical, a hard-r spoof of The Parent Trap featuring telepathic sewer creatures, a disembodied CGI vagina and Megan Thee Stallion walking men on leashes like dogs. “I don’t have a legacy or body of work or anything like that, so I don’t think about stuff like that,” the Dicks director explained on the eve of its Oct. 6 theatrical launch. “I never know what I’m doing next.”

Charles is about as unassuming as a comedy icon can be, having spent four...
