The Quad, alongside Andrew “King Bach” Bachelor and his production shingle Bach Enterprises, has set July 10 as their official start date for their next project “Miles Ryder Part One,” the companies announced on Thursday.
The feature film “Miles Ryder Part One” is described as a “John Wick” meets “Nobody”-style action thriller and centers on Miles Ryder, an everyday man who is forced to confront his mysterious and violent past, which he has long kept secret. After a brutal attack threatens to expose him and his secrets, Ryder’s hidden combat talent and almost supernatural fighting abilities are put to the test as he attempts to save his family – and potentially the world – from a dark force with a nefarious motive.
“Mortal Kombat’s” Greg Russo wrote the screenplay and is continuing to work on the project with the team.

Matt Weaver and Triller’s Jason Barhydt will also serve as producers with the company, whose focus will be on horror, thriller, American comedies and love stories.
Among the slate are projects with top social media influencers Charli D’Amelio and Bryce Hall, and a previously unannounced movie starring Andrew Byron Bachelor (The Babysitter), aka “King Bach.” That project, described to us as a thriller with action and fantasy elements, is called Miles Ryder and is slated to begin production later this year.
Actor and influencer King Bach has parlayed his early Vine success into major followings on platforms including YouTube, TikTok and Instagram, with nearly 23M followers on the latter alone.

Few actors had the screen and stage presence of Yul Brynner. There never was an actor quite like him and there hasn't been since. Like most thespians, Brynner had his share of good movies as well as those that fell considerably short of their potential. Nevertheless, the man never gave a false performance. He came across as supremely self-confidant even when he must have suspected the material he was given proved to be far below his considerable talents. Much of his self-confidence seemed to stem from an inflated ego. Robert Vaughn once told me that when Brynner arrived on the set of "The Magnificent Seven" in Mexico, he was still firmly in the King of Siam mode that had seen him win an Oscar. Vaughn said he carried himself as though he were real life royalty at all times. You didn't chat with him casually. Rather, he would grant you an audience.

The 2021 International Documentary Association (IDA) Awards has revealed the nominations for Best Feature and Best Short. In a year crowded with festival hits and critically hailed nonfiction (see the Critics Choice Documentary Award winners), with more debuts unspooling at Doc NYC, every reputable nonfiction awards group helps to curate the sprawling list of eventual Oscar contenders, and the IDA is no exception.
A number of films, including nominations leader “Summer of Soul” (four nominations), “Faya Dayi” and “Not Going Quietly” (three) and animated Danish Oscar submission “Flee” (two), keep turning up on early awards lists. But top dog NatGeo’s high-profile, well-reviewed titles “The Rescue,” “Becoming Cousteau,” and “Fauci” were left out in favor of an international selection of less-hyped titles. (“First Wave” scored the Pare Lorentz award plus a cinematography nomination.) PBS earned 14 nominations across its programming strands, followed by Netflix and Hulu each with seven nominations and HBO with six nominations.

In a bucolic setting in rural Sweden, a handcrafted log cabin nestles within a grove, home to a family of four. The surrounding forest supplied the wood, the amber beams fastened with dowels, not nails. But what’s most remarkable about the dwelling is something else—it’s built inside a greenhouse.
Sweden’s winters are frigid, but within the temperate space, plants, flowers, vegetables and even people thrive, cocooned in a Mediterranean climate.
“A special silence [reigns] inside,” an architect says of the home, “that’s very beneficial for the mind, for the soul.”
The Nature House, built by Anders Solvarm, is just one of the stunning and innovative dwellings explored in the Apple TV+ series Home, a contender for Emmy recognition as Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Series.

I’ve always thought I understood the arcane workings of the star system, but I still marvel at how cooks and bottle washers have achieved the star status of actors and musicians. Famous foodies are much in the news lately — Mario Batali, Gordon Ramsay, Wolfgang Puck and the late Anthony Bourdain — and the shows of star chefs sprawl across the TV landscape. “Misfits, free spirits and wanderers have created a new American profession,” heralds Andrew Friedman in his new book titled Chefs, Drugs and Rock & Roll, which is good summer reading.
Friedman writes colorfully about his cast of foodie miscreants, but I am left wondering whether we’re all falling victim to a feast of hype. I’m willing to pay a hefty tab at a top restaurant heralding a “name” chef, but still wonder how the egos, prices and sexual...

Chester See is coming to Broadway. The YouTuber whose powerful voice and handsome look has helped him amass more than 1.5 million subscribers on YouTube, has been cast in Rock of Ages, the long-running musical featuring music from the 80s. See will play the role of Stacee Jaxx, a rock star and one of the show's central characters. Coincidentally, the original Los Angeles production of Rock of Ages featured Chris Hardwick, another performer with a big YouTube presence, as Jaxx. In the 2012 film adaptation of the musical, Jaxx was portrayed by Tom Cruise. Matt Weaver, the producer of Rock of Ages, explained that he chose See after being impressed by his audition. "I looked at this as an exciting opportunity to do something that wouldn't be expected," he said. "He's got a real audience at YouTube, he's got a real voice there, and I think that audience is going to travel to Broadway.

Kartemquin Films has joined director-producer Brent Huffman on the documentary Saving Mes Aynak, about the imperiled 2,000-year-old Buddha statue in Afghanistan (pictured).
Huffman has been independently shooting at the Mes Aynak site in Afghanistan since 2011 and brought the documentary to Kartemquin Films.
He aims to finish editing imminently in time for a 2014 premiere.
“As the premiere destination for complex social issue films that intend on making a global impact, Kartemquin is the dream home for Saving Mes Aynak,” said Huffman.
Saving Mes Aynak was one of 18 documentaries that received grant funding from the John T and Catherine D MacArthur Foundation this year. Other funding has come from smaller grants and a successful Kickstarter campaign.
“We are delighted to bring Brent and his film to Kartemquin,” said Justine Nagan, Kartemquin’s executive director. “Its memorable characters and unique narrative has enormous potential to raise awareness around this important issue.
