One of the most recognized and successful works of fiction, Jk Rowling’s Harry Potter novels, spilled over their success to the subsequent movie adaptations that began all the way back in 2001. Starring Daniel Radcliffe as its titular hero, the decade-long box office chokehold of the franchise and its eponymous connection to everyday pop culture has made it an integral part of modern cinema and turned a star-studded cast into a memorable unit.

If Harry Potter was produced today, there would have been a lot of unsolicited comments from fans, and Bonnie Wright is thankful that social media wasn’t a big part of everyone’s lives back when the first movie came out.

The editing room is a brutal battlefield, and sometimes, many great scenes were cut off from the final version just like what happened to Rik Mayall. Yes, he was originally in the Harry Potter movie, but his scene was cut off. The worst part here was he took his children to the premiere expecting they would watch their father on the big screen.

As children, it would have been the greatest thing in the world – to watch the first ever Harry Potter movie and see your dad portray a beloved role. Apparently, the late comedian could not bear to tell them the truth.

The mystical realm of Harry Potter serves as the perfect backdrop for a go-to comfort movie. Under the aegis of directors like Chris Columbus and David Yates, the movie adaptations of the globally cherished novel series were a prominent success. But would the wizardly creations have been as revered, had someone like the three-time Academy Award winner Steven Spielberg helmed the project?

Astoundingly enough, the Jurassic Park director did come incredibly close to directing a Harry Potter film, only to forsake it after a few initial months. Turns out, the magic-infused world of Hogwarts wasn’t enticing enough for him to recreate on the silver screen. Or challenging, for that matter.

Emma Watson's fans don't seem to care if her swimwear snaps are old. In July 2021, a user on X (formerly Twitter) gushed over the 34-year-old looking happy in a skimpy bikini, with similar sentiments manifesting on social networking platform Reddit that same year. The beach photos, assumed to date back to 2014, per Popsugar, showed Emma flaunting her toned figure in a minuscule two-piece as she soaked up rays, and her Caribbean vacation wasn't a solo one. Enjoying time with then-boyfriend Matthew Janney, the Harry Potter star gave the paparazzi some Pda action, but diehard fans seemed more interested in the solo snaps.

For the uninitiated, there are eight films in the Harry Potter series, and the first one was released in the theatres in 2001.
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban was released in domestic theatres on June 4, 2004; this year, it turns 20. It is reportedly the fan-favorite installment, but unfortunately, it is the lowest-grossing Harry Potter movie.

Alfonso Cuarón knew he wanted franchise installment “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban” to be different from the other “Potter” films. So the professor assigned his Hogwarts, Ravenclaw, Slytherin, and Hufflepuff students some homework.
The director wanted the 2004 “Harry Potter” feature to have a “noir” tone, which Cuarón believed would best present the coming-of-age moment for both the trio of characters played by Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint, as well as for the film series itself.
Cuarón was the first new director to step in after Chris Columbus directed the first two films.
“Chris [Columbus] would help them with intonation and get them excited; Alfonso was treating them as young adults: what are you feeling?” the franchise’s producer David Heyman recalled to Total Film for a 20th-anniversary retrospective interview.
Part of getting the core cast to grow up onscreen was to have each actor meditate on their respective characters’ motivations.

What’s In A Phrase?
Complaints filed: We could fill these very pages with news and analysis about the so-called ‘culture wars’ almost every week, but the past seven days has been ripe with incident. When Karla Sofia Gascón (pictured) became the first transgender actress to win the Cannes Best Actress prize for Jacques Audiard’s gangster musical Emilia Perez last weekend she would have felt only joy, but that joy swiftly turned sour after French far-right politician Marion Maréchal-Le Pen responded to the win on X with: “So a man has won the Best Actress prize… progress for the left is the erasure of women and mothers.” Palms could be heard hitting faces across the land.

J.K. Rowling has hit out at the double standards of friends who have rushed to trash her views on transgender rights.
In an extract from the book The Women Who Wouldn’t Wheesht, published by The Times of London newspaper, Rowling said she had been surprised by colleagues who had condemned her views in public, only for them to email her privately to check they remained friends.
“People who’d worked with me rushed to distance themselves from me or to add their public condemnation of my blasphemous views,” she wrote.
“In truth, the condemnation of certain individuals was far less surprising to me than the fact that some of them then emailed me, or sent messages through third parties, to check that we were still friends.”
Rowling added: “Those appalled by my position often fail to grasp how truly despicable I find theirs. I’ve watched ‘no debate’ become...

Harry Potter is undoubtedly one of the best books ever to be written and the best fantasy movies ever to have been made. Everything from the visuals to the storyline, the production beautifully captured the very essence of the books and literally brought magic to the big screen. While it was Jk Rowling and her touch that ultimately made the movies successful, it was also the persistence and determination of the young cast members that made the movies a beloved part of cinema today.

The Harry Potter films were absolutely magical and the cast members had a huge role in making them so. Gary Oldman has addressed some previous comments on the Harry Potter franchise whereby he called his performance as fan-favorite character Sirius Black “mediocre.”
Oldman spoke while at the Cannes press conference for Paolo Sorrentino’s Parthenope on Wednesday and wanted to ensure no fans of J.K. Rowling’s wizarding world adaptations were offended by his words.
“Not to disparage anyone out there who are fans of the Harry Potter films and the character who I think is much beloved … What I meant by that is I think as any artist, actor, painter, you are always hypercritical of your own work.
“If you’re not and you’re satisfied with what you’re doing, that would be death to me. If I had watched a performance of myself and thought: ‘My God, I’m fantastic in this,’ that would be a sad day. My best work is next year.” He attempted to clarify what he meant.

Fred Roos, the casting director turned producer who jump-started the career of Jack Nicholson and collaborated often with Francis Ford Coppola, sharing a best picture Oscar with the filmmaker for The Godfather Part II, has died. He was 89.
Roos died Saturday at his home in Beverly Hills, a publicist announced.
It’s part of Hollywood lore that before Harrison Ford became a famous actor, he was laboring as a carpenter to make ends meet. What some might not know is that it was at Roos’ house where Ford was woodworking when the casting director befriended him, eventually pushing him for roles in George Lucas’ American Graffiti (1973) and Star Wars (1977) and Coppola’s The Conversation (1974).
And it was Roos who convinced Lucas — who had been leaning toward Amy Irving — that Carrie Fisher should portray Princess Leia in Star Wars. (Roos did not have an official role on that film.)

The Harry Potter franchise made worldwide stars of its main three actors, who portray Harry, Hermione and Ron. Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson seem to be in sight after the last Hp movie was released in 2011, while the fate of Rupert Grint, who played the most awkward and the youngest son of the Weasley family, is lesser known.
It turns out that after starring in Harry Potter, which was quite a challenge to Grint, he preferred to explore indie films and take the unexpectedly extravagant roles.
His first post-Potter project was the 2012 war drama Into the White, and the actor’s feisty character was definitely a far cry from Ron Weasley.
This trend continued in the 2013 biopic Cbgb, where Grint reunited with the Severus Snape actor, Alan Rickman, with them playing drastically different roles they had in Hp. Besides, that year is remarkable for the actor’s appearance in Charlie Countryman.

Anime fans might not know this, but Hideaki Anno’s Neon Genesis Evangelion was probably one of the first anime series to revolutionize the anime world by introducing giant robot monsters fighting with each other while being piloted mostly by teenagers. While there were other series that were working on such narratives, no one was able to make it as big as Anno.

Daniel Radcliffe will forever be known as the ‘Boy Who Lived’ as he played the character of Harry Potter in the adaptation of Jk Rowling’s fantasy novels. The actor grew up with the Harry Potter franchise, beginning his tenure at the age of 12. Since the franchise ended, he has been experimenting with his roles and has starred in a long list of indie films.
Radcliffe mentioned that though he is grateful for all that the Harry Potter films gave him, he almost considered leaving it midway through the franchise. He said how he was having second thoughts as his life had changed since he was cast in the films. However, he decided against it and saw the franchise through to its end.

There were a lot of things that were left out of the Harry Potter books when it was adapted into films. Ever since HBO Max’s reboot was announced, fans have been hoping to get a more accurate adaptation of the source material, one that keeps all the nuances of the story and characterization as it is, though this might not necessarily be true for characters across the board.

Hermione Granger, whether it be her portrayal in the films or the way she is written in the books, is considered one of the smartest witches of her age. However, particularly in the books, the character has a darker side to her that the films refused to adapt, and is perhaps best kept out of the reboot as well, given that mainstream audiences might not look upon these actions favorably.

The three Harry Potter actors, Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint, have become closest friends for more than 10 years of shooting together. It, undoubtedly, made the process of filming easier, as they didn’t need to outdo themselves to portray friendship among the trio and to find a necessary chemistry which was already present.
However, their closeness was a huge challenge when it came to the finale, which involved more love scenes than the previous, more childlike chapters. The same was with the Harry and Hermione kiss scene, which took place in the first Deathly Hallows movie.
In its climax, when Harry opens Slytherin’s locket, one of Lord Voldemort’s horcruxes, it begins to torture Ron by mocking his biggest fears. The main one is presented in the vision of Harry and Hermione telling him they would be better off without him, which is followed by a kiss of the two,...

Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling's initial concerns about the trans community divided opinions but seemed to at least come from a place of concern. However, in the years that have followed, her comments have become increasingly controversial and led to fans and peers alike washing their hands of the writer.
Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson are among the Harry Potter stars who have made a point of disagreeing with Rowling while sharing their support for trans people. Recently, the author was asked if she'd forgive the duo should they make a public apology and whether they're safe in the knowledge she'd do so.
"Not safe, I'm afraid," Rowling responded. "Celebs who cosied up to a movement intent on eroding women's hard-won rights and who used their platforms to cheer on the transitioning of minors can save their apologies for traumatised detransitioners and vulnerable women reliant on single sex spaces.

As Harry Potter’s story mostly has to deal with serious and dark matters — sometimes even too serious for a school pupil and his friends, even if they’re all wizards — some particular scenes that unite the characters at joyful moments may have brought joy to the actors as well. Though it doesn’t seem like all episodes like this were fun for absolutely everyone.
As it turned out, Emma Watson, who portrayed Hermione Granger in all the films of the famous franchise, found it very hard personally to film the scene of the Yule Ball in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.
Why Is the Yule Ball Scene So Iconic?

J.K. Rowling is an author who has made several generations happy with her Harry Potter series, but in recent years, the Scottish author is better known for her anti-trans feuds with basically everyone than for her works. Not that long ago, we reported about her feud with former Harry Potter stars, Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson, whom Rowling attacked for not sharing her opinion and openly criticizing her views. But, it seems that the feud is not over. It definitely isn’t for Rowling, but former Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe also had something to say recently about this whole controversy.
Before we continue, here is a quick summary of the issue. Rowling has been quite open about her opposition to the transgender movement, criticizing some of its postulates as degrading toward actual women. While the author has been criticized for her opinions, she remains firm in stating that she...

Daniel Radcliffe has offered his latest words of support for the trans community while discussing Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling’s history of anti-trans comments in a new interview with The Atlantic.
“Obviously Harry Potter would not have happened without her, so nothing in my life would have probably happened the way it is without that person,” Radcliffe told The Atlantic. “But that doesn’t mean that you owe the things you truly believe to someone else for your entire life.”
Rowling’s focus on trans people — specifically trans women — is a well-documented saga that often involves the author offering unsolicited comments on trans legislation and related dialogue. Last month, Rowling responded to a fan asking if she would ever “forgive” Radcliffe and his former co-star Emma Watson for speaking out against her views by saying they could “save their apologies.”
She continues to regularly post longform defenses of her beliefs,...

Daniel Radcliffe, known for being the iconic boy wizard in the Harry Potter film series, shared his feelings about J.K. Rowling’s controversial anti-transgender statements.
“It makes me really sad, ultimately,” he told The Atlantic, noting that he has had no direct communication with Rowling since her anti-transgender outbursts. “I do look at the person that I met, the times that we met, and the books that she wrote, and the world that she created, and all of that is to me so deeply empathic.”
After Rowling’s transphobic comments in 2020, Radcliffe took a stand for the transgender community via a statement through The Trevor Project. He wrote, “I realize that certain press outlets will probably want to paint this as in-fighting between J.K. Rowling and myself, but that is really not what this is about, nor is it what’s important right now.”
