It’s the beginning of the end for The Boys.
The adult superhero universe of humans vs. supes (as superheroes are called in the series) will soon come to end after season five, showrunner Eric Kripke announced on Tuesday, just two days before the hit Amazon series prepares to launch its fourth season with a three-episode premiere.
On his social media, Kripke announced his intentions to the fanbase by putting up a final script page for the forthcoming finale of season four. After redacting the script, the bottom of the page read: “See You For Our Final Season, Motherfuckers!”
So, why is the creator of such a widely popular (and timely) satirical series about superheroes ready to pull the plug? In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter later on Tuesday, Kripke had a big grin on his face in anticipation of being asked that question.

When Empire caught up with Eric Kripke for this month's issue of the magazine, The Boys' showrunner revealed that he'd already gotten his superviolent superhero series' ending all planned out. "Whenever that last episode occurs, I know what happens," he shared. Well now we know when exactly that last episode will occur. Taking to Twitter/X earlier today, Kripke confirmed that the battle between Karl Urban's Billy Butcher and Antony Starr's Homelander will come to "a gory, epic, moist climax" with its fifth — and now final — season. Check out the announcement below;
Kripke's announcement comes on the same week that The Boys Season 4, described by Empire's own Amon Warmann as the show's "best season yet", premieres on Prime Video UK. In this latest run of episodes from the R-rated, claret-soaked, and ever-so-sweary satire, The Boys are out to stop not only Homelander, but also Oval Office-bound head-popping super...

The Boys remains one of Prime Video’s biggest shows, so we’re sad to report that it’s ending.
Series creator Eric Kripke announced on X on Tuesday morning that The Boys Season 5 will conclude the superhero drama.
“The Boys Season 4 Premiere Week is a good time to announce: Season 5 will be the Final Season!” he shared on the social media platform.
“Always my plan, I just had to be cagey till I got the final Ok from Vought,” he added.
“Thrilled to bring the story to a gory, epic, moist climax. Watch Season 4 in Two Days, cause the end has begun!”
Kripke is well-known for having arcs mapped out for several years at the beginning of a show’s run.
The Boys is a megahit
Supernatural, one of his other big hits, was supposed to end after Season 5, but it went on for another decade because it was a huge success.

“The Boys” are back this week — but they’ll soon be gone for good.
Amazon’s satirical superhero drama will be ending with Season 5, which was announced by showrunner Eric Kripke Tuesday morning, ahead of the Season 4 debut Thursday. The news is bittersweet for fans of the saga between villainous supe Homelander (Antony Starr) and morally gray supe-hunter Butcher (Karl Urban) because while it’s the beginning of the end, it’s also going out exactly as the creator intended it to.
According to Kripke, “The Boys” Season 5 is currently being written and the plan is to shoot the eight-episode final installment from November 2024 through mid-2025.
Here, Kripke breaks down his choice to conclude “The Boys” and discusses what the decision means for the future of Amazon’s other live-action shows based on the comic book adaptation: spinoff “Gen V” and two in development projects, one set in Mexico and...

The Boys are finally back and they are even more wild and bloody with a touch of animal mayhem. The much-awaited Season 4 of the popular Prime Video superhero series The Boys will be released the day after tomorrow on the streaming service but before that, we are here to review the upcoming season, and after watching all the episodes I can confidently say that this might be the best season of The Boys yet.
Season 4 begins with The Boys struggling to figure out the Victoria Newman problem as she is about to become the Vice President of America and with Butcher only having months to live, he is trying to get Ryan back from Homelander. M.M. is now in charge of The Boys and they have a big problem ahead of them as the public is divided between Homelander supporters and Starlight supporters. Into this chaos,...

Plot: The world is on the brink. Victoria Neuman is closer than ever to the Oval Office and under the muscly thumb of Homelander, who is consolidating his power. Butcher, with only months to live, has lost Becca’s son as well as his job as The Boys’ leader. The rest of the team are fed up with his lies. With the stakes higher than ever, they have to find a way to work together and save the world before it’s too late.
Review: While most viewers have loved The Boys since it debuted, I was lukewarm on the first season. With improvements in the second and third years, I have become a big fan of the Prime Video series and its bleakly hilarious take on the superhero genre with each successive season. The Boys is easily one of the most popular shows on the air. Well, well, how quickly things change. All along, the original plan for Prime Video's hit superhero supervillain series "The Boys" has been to span a total of five seasons -- at least according to creator Eric Kripke's response to a question-and-answer session on Twitter back in October of 2020. But having couched it in terms of another failed prediction he once made while working on "Supernatural," which he similarly envisioned to last five seasons and ended up watching it expand to 15, Kripke knows better than anyone that writers make plans and the television gods laugh. Well, consider them well and truly busting a gut over today's news that the creative's initial idea for "The Boys" is, in fact, coming to fruition after all. Just days before season 4 debuts, Kripke has taken to social media (via Variety) to announce that the upcoming fifth season will also be the show's last. As...

Hits from the weekend
Streaming movies and shows made up the majority of the top five titles this past weekend, based on traffic to their IMDb pages. That’s thanks to a trio of Netflix titles and the new Star Wars series, “The Acolyte.” In theaters, Will Smith and Martin Lawrence’s fourth installment in the Bad Boys franchise delivered Hollywood a much-needed box office win, while ‘The Watchers’—the mystery-horror film starring Dakota Fanning—drew enough interest to land in the top 10.
By the time ‘Hit Man’ dropped on Netflix, movie fans were probably well aware of who Glen Powell was, but the popularity of the comedic action film brought more IMDb users’ attention to co-star Adria Arjona and director Richard Linklater. If Arjona looked familiar to viewers, it’s likely from several supporting roles in other streaming hits like “Good Omens,” “Andor,” and ‘6 Underground’ with Ryan Reynolds.
It’s not often that directors crack the top five (or even top 10) names on IMDb, but viewers were clearly interested to know more about Richard Linklater, the versatile and irreverent director of indie films like ‘Slacker’ and ‘Dazed and Confused,’ who also found mainstream recognition with ‘School of Rock.’
Also big on Netflix were the French killer shark movie ‘Under Paris’ and the Benedict Cumberbatch miniseries “Eric,” which released all six episodes two weeks ago. Elsewhere in streaming, “The Acolyte” has had no trouble finding its audience on Disney+. According to Disney, the show drew 4.8 million viewers on its first day, making it the streamer’s biggest hit of 2024 to date. Amandla Stenberg and Dafne Keen were in the top five names on IMDb, and both will likely remain popular through the show’s first season, which ends on July 16.
What’s in store for the coming week?
Expect next weekend to be all about “The Boys,” the raunchy comic book adaptation from showrunner Eric Kripke. The first three episodes of Season 4 arrive Thursday (6/13) on Prime Video, with new episodes dropping weekly. Returning cast members Karl Urban, Antony Starr, and Erin Moriarty will likely climb IMDb’s STARmeter, but a few new supes on the scene could put some breakouts in the spotlight, such as Valorie Curry (playing Firecracker) or Susan Heyward (as Sister Sage).
In theaters, Disney and Pixar’s animated ‘Inside Out 2’ is a shoo-in to win next weekend’s box office, though it may not have the same interest on IMDb as the streaming releases. The original voice cast of emotions are returning, but it’s more likely one of the newcomers will spike in popularity, like Maya Hawke (“Stranger Things”) as Anxiety, Ayo Edibiri (“The Bear”) as Envy, or Paul Walter Houser (‘I, Tonya,’ ‘Richard Jewell’) as Embarrassment.

The Boys are back in town for a fourth season of Prime Video's ultra-violent comic book series, and the review embargo has now lifted ahead of Thursday's 3-episode premiere.
The majority of critics were able to check out the full 8 episodes, and while the initial verdicts are (mostly) positive, it's looking like season 4 might prove to be the show's most divisive yet.
It sounds like The Boys is still just as wickedly funny, outrageous and shocking as ever, but it may have actually become too dark for some critics, who feel the sociopolitical satire has begun to hit a bit too close to the bone, making for a "depressing" watch.
Season 4 has also been criticized for its repetitiveness, treading over the same ground as previous seasons without pushing the story forward into new territory.
As things stand, The Boys season 4 sits at 71% on Rotten Tomatoes. Have a read through some...

Late in “The Boys” Season 4, there’s a relatively minor moment that carries major weight. A hero (it’s best not to say whom) brings an injured person to the hospital. As they turn to go, they see a little boy watching nearby. At first, the kid is awestruck. You can almost hear him thinking, “Wow, a real superhero! Right in front of me!” Then, as he realizes that the hero may have just saved someone’s life, he smiles. And the hero smiles back. That’s it. That’s the scene — so classic it could’ve been from any number of comic book adaptations over the last half-century, and so unironically sweet that “The Boys” may have been one of the last super-stories to be guessed.
Showrunner Eric Kripke’s Prime Video series isn’t averse to earnestness. After all, one hero’s journey starts with the soul-shattering loss of his girlfriend.

You have to hand it to “The Boys.” Production on Season 4 of the Amazon action satire wrapped over a year ago, with its release delayed by subsequent strikes in the entertainment industry. The premiere still manages to be almost uncannily well-timed, with characters waiting on a verdict from the breathlessly publicized Manhattan trial of a polarizing political figure. Granted, the figure in question is Homelander (Antony Starr), the psychopathic Captain America type who serves as the series’ archvillain, not a certain former — and possibly future — president. But the trial’s subject is a clear allusion to an infamous Trumpism. When Homelander eye-lasered a protester for throwing a plastic bottle at his son, he essentially shot somebody in the middle of 5th Avenue. And in the ever-cynical world of “The Boys,” Homelander loses about as much support for it as his real-life inspiration.

In a time when superhero subversions are a dime a dozen, Prime Video series "The Boys" has stood out with its razor-sharp satire. Based on the comic book series by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, "The Boys" is a perverse, hyper-violent take on superheroes that riffs on everything from the Marvel Cinematic Universe to Fox News to Saturday morning cartoons. It follows the titular "Boys," a ragtag team of anti-superhero vigilantes under the leadership of ex-special forces soldier Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) as they try to take down the evil Vought corporation and its elite team of superheroes, the Seven.
The show has become infamous for its ridiculous gore gags and sex jokes, testing the boundaries of good taste as often as superhumanly possible. Yet, for every moment where the series has been vulgar and juvenile, it has had an equal moment of smart satire. Season 3 was a nearly perfect season of television,...

At this point, the formula for The Boys is well established. Take one helping of superpowered mayhem, add a side of relatable human drama, season with a generous amount of social commentary, and voilà — you have one of the best dramas on TV over the last five years. It’s a testament to series showrunner Eric Kripke that the recipe hasn’t yet grown stale. In its fourth season, the capacity to shock hasn’t dimmed, the political and cultural satire remains razor-sharp, and the character drama excavates new depths. The titular team may be as dysfunctional as ever, but make no mistake: The Boys is at the top of its game.
In part, that’s because of the recent additions. As the smartest person on the planet, Sage (Susan Heyward) is easily Homelander’s (Antony Starr) most dangerous new ally. And though he would never admit it,...

Jensen Ackles – who rose to recognition as Supernatural’s Dean Winchester – joined the star-studded cast of The Boys as Solider Boy, the paragon of an ‘alpha male,’ in season 3. But out of all his friends, the one who was the most thrilled about the news was his on-screen father from the CW fantasy horror, Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

Morgan and Ackles share an unshakeable bond, one which is widely known along with their bromance, of course. But when it comes to professionalism, Ackles won’t yield to even his best friend with whom he shares a matching tattoo.

The Boys returns for its long-awaited fourth season later this week, and Prime Video has released a promo featuring new cast member Jeffrey Dean Morgan sharing new details about his mysterious character.
In the humorous teaser, The Walking Dead alum manages to get a few things out before his words begin to be heavily censored.
Is he actually spilling any redacted secrets here? Well, we already know a few things about Morgan's character, but there are certainly some details that have been kept firmly under wraps - and for good reason.
Without giving anything away, let's just say Mr. Kessler doesn't care for The Boys and feels Butcher and the team's methods haven't been yielding adequate results.
Have a look at the new promo below, along with some new stills from the first three episodes and a video featuring The Deep sharing some "wise" words.
Finally, @jdmorgan shared more details about his character at #IGNLive.

Prime Video's The Boys adaptation may be known for its extreme gore, dark humor and comic book parodies, but it's never shied away from including sociopolitical satire, and the show has arguably gained more attention for its blistering take-down of America's far right.
Showrunner Eric Kripke has always been very up-front about what - and who - the series is taking aim at, and the writing has proved to be almost prescient with its parallels to current events.
For example, the upcoming fourth season finds Homelander on trial for publicly killing a protestor in the season 3 finale, and the show returns to our screens shortly after former President Donald Trump's numerous convictions.
"It’s happened now almost every season, and we write them sometimes close to two years before they air and again we’ll find that the news is accurately reflecting whatever we’re talking about," Kripke tells THR.

The Boys is soaring back onto Amazon Prime Video next week, boldly unpacking a massive storyline that’s more timely than ever. Are we ready for another season teetering with anticipation, as the series showrunner, Eric Kripke, recently weighed in on some of the intense discussion?
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Kripke responded to criticism that the show has become “woke” in its most recent seasons. Fans have criticized The Boys for having political overtones, and Kripke addressed this, particularly in light of Homelander’s similarities to former US President Donald Trump.

Remaining unrepentant about the show’s premise and themes, Kripke seemed to enjoy annoying the critics. He encouraged viewers to “go watch something else” and said that it was okay for anyone to label the show as “woke” or whatever.

The Boys returns to our screens next week, and Prime Video (via Discussing Film) has shared the first clip from the season 4 premiere.
Here, we see Billy Butcher attempt to get Ryan to leave with him during Victoria Neuman's campaign speech. The last time these two spoke, Butcher did what he felt was best for Ryan by telling him that he never wanted him, but this approach backfired by bringing the easily-manipulated young Supe closer to his father.
Butcher almost manages to convince the lad that going with him would be what his "mum would want," before Homelander arrives on the scene.
One-on-one confrontations between these mortal enemies have been kept to a minimum - in large part due to the fact that it can be hard to come up with believable reasons why Homie wouldn't just laser his head off - but here, the ruthless...

The Boys returns for its fourth season on next week, and Prime Video has now released another character poster, this time spotlighting the two latest members of the "superhero" group known as The Seven.
As you might expect, those new recruits turn out to be every bit as unhinged/amoral as pretty much every other Supe that's been part of the team, but one, in particular, might be the most dangerous of all: The smartest person in the world, Sister Sage (Susan Heyward).
"It's such a funny power," showrunner Eric Kripke said of the scheming Supe in a recent interview with EW. "A lot of superhero worlds have that character. Whereas most of them are usually really reedy white dudes, we wanted a Black woman who was raised in a low socioeconomic area, so no one f---ing listens to her. The Boys— an ultimate satire on superheroes and several cultural phenomena has brought pure delight to fans with a new perspective towards the very cinematic genre. The series extended into a universe with a few spin-offs including, Gen V, the animated series The Boys: Diabolical, with The Boys: Mexico coming up.

Now, as fans have wondered what season 4 of the series would entail, The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke was gracious enough to clue us in revealing that the upcoming season will also take a jibe at the upcoming United States election. This would definitely provide the relevance that the show needed with its narrative.

The comic book The Boys was created through the pioneering efforts of authors Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson who turned a hugely popular genre on its head with their bold satirical take on superheroes. While these characters were viewed as Gods and revered for their impeccable abilities and qualities that they used for good, The Boys dealt with equally powerful heroes who abuse these powers.

The 2019 show developed by Eric Kripke for Amazon Prime became an instant hit, and had fans completely invested in these deliciously diabolical characters. Interestingly, the series which was also meant to take a lighthearted dig at Marvel and DC, has become a cult franchise in itself. With Season 4 due to release soon and Season 5 on the way, Kripke was fully aware that meticulous planning was now required to maintain the reputation of the show.

During a Twitter Q&a back in 2020, The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke stated that his rough idea for the show's entire run included “five seasons total.” But the series was recently renewed for a fifth season, and the word "final" was nowhere to be seen in Prime Video's press release!
Now, Kripke has amended his original prediction.
“I have learned since then to not try to call the seasons as the person who, and this is without hyperbole, is literally the most wrong in entertainment history of how many seasons their show should go,” he tells Inverse. “Someone pointed that out to me and I was like, ‘You're right. That's ridiculous. I need to keep my mouth shut.’ And so I will.”
Kripke may not know when The Boys is going to end, but he does know how the story is going to conclude.

Every time a new season of The Boys arrives, it does so with a valid question: how can it possibly top what came last time? With each successive season, Prime Video’s satirical superhero series – in which powered-up individuals exist, and are largely monstrous people – ups the ante on its shocking scenes, gratuitous gore, and pointed political storytelling. Now, Season 4 is imminent, following the wilder-than-ever Season 3, and the debauched antics of YA spin-off Gen V – while Season 5 has already been confirmed to follow, promising more story to come in the war between Superman-alike psychopath Homelander (Antony Starr), and his human nemesis Billy Butcher (Karl Urban).
But fear not – good shows can’t last forever, and showrunner Eric Kripke has a proper ending in mind for The Boys, whenever that time arises. “You can’t build a show that’s about these two forces of Homelander and Butcher slowly closing in...

As "The Boys" season 4 approaches, it's worth remembering the events of season 3 (some are pretty hard to forget) and where the characters' arcs left off. Most of us know the gist of things: Homelander (Antony Starr) is still at large, and Butcher (Karl Urban) is still with the Boys trying to take him down. But there's about a dozen other storylines going at any given point, and even the Homelander v. Butcher thread was complicated massively in the season 3 finale.
So, two years after the last season aired, here's your guide to everything you need to remember about your favorite characters like Maeve, Annie, Hughie, Frenchie, A-Train and The Deep. We'll also go into the recent spin-off "Gen V," whose characters appear in the trailer for "The Boys" season 4 trailer, pointing to further overlapping of storylines. We know you might not have the time to do a full rewatch, so here's the next best thing.

As the season 4 premiere of The Boys draws near, Prime Video has debuted a series of new character posters spotlighting the returning heroes - and one very interesting addition.
The banners feature Billy Butcher, Hughie Campbell, Frenchie, Kimiko, Starlight/Annie, Mm and Jeffrey Dean Morgan's new character, Joe Kessler.
Does this indicate that Kessler will be joining the team? Well, we don't want to give anything away, so let's just say that his placement alongside Butcher on the poster is no accident.

It really came from the notion of everyone else in The Boys is always trying to pull Butcher back. So what would happen if he started working with someone who wants to push him forward?"

When putting together an anti-superhero crew in a world full of superheroes, "The Boys" creators Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson introduced Billy Butcher -- a character almost as deplorable as the supes he fights against. Across 72 issues, Ennis and Robertson put their lead anti-hero in tense situations that rendered morally bankrupt decisions, ending in an all-knowing Billy Butcher smile.

For those lucky enough to have experienced this, think back to how you first managed to get your dream job. The painstaking process of gathering enough relevant experience over the years, looking for open positions, and sending out résumés to whomever will take them -- not to mention all the rejections along the way -- can turn even the best and most optimistic of us into cynical grumps. Actors, for all the glitz and glamor we see from the outside looking in, oftentimes have to suffer through similar moments of heartbreak over and over again. Not all actors, however, are Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

Antony Starr has made a major impact as the psychotic Supe known as Homelander over three seasons of Prime Video's The Boys adaptation, but is there a chance he might suit-up as a more conventional superhero at some point?
A recent rumor claimed that the title role in the planned Max Booster Gold series has already been cast, and when fans noticed that Starr and DC Studios co-ceo James Gunn had started following each other on Instagram, speculation mounted that the Aussie actor may have been cast as Michael Jon Carter.
Why that particular character and not another Dcu role? Well, Booster is blonde, and Starr... plays a blonde guy on The Boys.
At any rate, it doesn't sound like the social media sleuths have landed on something here - not that Starr would confirm if they had!
"Me and James just play golf," Starr told ComicBook.com when asked about the rumors.

Accompanied by her daughter, Malti Marie Chopra Jonas, the video captured their arrival in Australia, with glimpses of Malti at the airport and Priyanka enjoying moments with her.
Priyanka captioned the video, “Touchdown…The Bluff. With the best travel partner ever,” and used “Bloom (Cover)” by Solomon as the background music.
The Bluff, directed by Frank E Flowers, is set in the 19th century Caribbean and follows Priyanka as a former female pirate who must protect her family from the consequences of her past. The movie also stars Karl Urban and is produced by the Russo Brothers’ Agbo Studios along with Amazon MGM Studios.
This film marks Priyanka’s second collaboration with the Russo Brothers after her role in the Amazon Original series Citadel.

Romantic Reunion
India’s Zee Studios has set a late November theatrical release for “Dhadak 2,” a romance film challenging societal norms.
The film is a sequel to 2016 hit “Dhadak,” that was itself a Hindi remake of the Marathi film “Sairat.” The 2016 title starred Ishaan Khatter and Janhvi Kapoor, as well as the late Sridevi.
The new film is directed by Shazia Iqbal and stars Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri in lead roles. Plot details were scarce, though Zee teased it with the logline: [the film] “explores barriers of class and status stitched in the minds of societies, underscoring a narrative of love that can never be fulfilled. Or can it?”
Production is by Zee Studios, Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, and Cloud 9 Pictures and is slated for release on Nov. 22, 2024, a slot that falls neatly between Diwali and Christmas.

Giancarlo Esposito recently confirmed that he had joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe... but not as the character he's been campaigning to play over the past few months, Charles Xavier.
During Ccxp back in May (via Collider), Esposito revealed that he will be appearing in a Marvel Studios project, but declined to reveal any more details. The actor did say that we'd find out "sooner rather than later," and the role is "better than you can imagine."
There was some speculation that Esposito might show up in the cameo-filled Deadpool and Wolverine, but according to Mttsh, he will be making his MCU debut in an upcoming Disney+ series.
Does this narrow down the character possibilities? Not really, since we have Agatha All Along, Ironheart, Daredevil: Born Again, and the recently announced Vision series all on the horizon, as well as more Marvel Spotlight presentations such as Wonder Man.

Denial, anger, bargaining, depression, long winter evenings by the window, filled with loneliness, a bucket of ice cream: who hasn't been there? This is what happens to fans of TV shows that end in the most interesting place.
You have just begun to feel for the characters, understand all the intricacies of the plot, recognize the theme song from the first seconds, when a merciless message arrives: the series is canceled. Fortunately, TV shows can't just disappear, so true fans continue to revisit the projects that gave us so many pleasant memories. But is it enough?
Karl Urban's Best Role Before The Boys Was in an Exciting Sci-Fi Drama
Karl Urban rarely had real luck with the projects he took part in. If it hadn't been for the TV series The Boys, in which he played Billy Butcher who had already become his calling card, it might have seemed...

We're now just three weeks away from the season 4 premiere of The Boys, and Prime Video has shared a new still spotlighting the reshuffled members of the "superhero" team known as The Seven.
The updated roster (it's a running joke that there's never actually seven of them) consists of original members Homelander, The Deep, A-Train, and Black Noir (with a different character under the mask), along with two new recruits.
As you might expect, these ladies turn out to be every bit as unhinged/amoral as pretty much every other Supe that's been part of the team, but one, in particular, might be the most dangerous of all: The smartest person in the world, Sister Sage (Susan Heyward).
"It's such a funny power," showrunner Eric Kripke says of the scheming Supe in a recent interview with EW. "A lot of superhero worlds have that character. Whereas most of them are usually really reedy white dudes,...

The Boys returns for its fourth season next month, and if star Jack Quaid (Hughie) is to be believed, fans are in for the most batshit insane batch of episodes yet - which really is saying something when you consider some of the things we've witnessed over the course of the previous three seasons.
During an interview with Collider, Quaid said this latest season is his favourite yet, and while he didn't share any specifics when it comes to what viewers can expect from the finale, it sounds like we might be in store for quite a shocker.
"They always find a way to somehow find new beats, and they never repeat themselves," Quaid of the new season. "It’s been really cool. This is my favorite season that we’ve ever done. The writers have topped themselves." He went on to add that there were several moments that shocked...
