The villain telling the hero 'we’re not so different, you and I' is one of the most overused tropes in movies, especially when it comes to the superhero genre. Look no further than the Joker, Norman Osborne, Magneto, and Thanos — they've all said it.
The cliche stretches to Prime Video's subversive superhero series The Boys. Throughout the show's first four seasons, Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) and Homelander (Antony Starr) have been at each other's throats, and season 5 will undoubtedly bring their war to a violent, gruesome conclusion.
The two characters are intrinsically different in terms of their outlooks. Homelander is an oppressive 'evil Superman' with ties to the government and plans for world domination. On the other hand, hardened British vigilante Billy Butcher has been out to stop him — and all 'Supes' — from the start, along with his ragtag group, the Boys.

Over the years, The Boys supervillain Homelander (Antony Starr) has become one of the most universally despised characters in the genre. Of all the characters that fall into the "Evil Superman" archetype, from Brightburn to Omni-Man, it's Homelander who's the most talked-about.
Looking ahead to the fifth and final season of Prime Video's The Boys, Homelander is more unhinged than ever. With people like Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) and a newly-Suped Ashley (Colby Minifie) out to kill him once and for all, fans can expect a bloodbath from start to finish. As the show has proved time and time again, no level of vulgarity or gruesomeness is off the table.
While it's hard to have sympathy for someone as pathologically evil as Homelander, showrunner Eric Kripke recently weighed in on the fundamental tragedy of his story. "It’s sort of tragic, actually, but ultimately, the guy just wants someone to love him,...

Oi, The Boys are giving us a good behind-the-scenes look at the upcoming season 5 of the series. As the wheels are rolling on the fifth and final season of one of the best superhero shows around, fans are getting regular blood-soaked updates thanks to its cast and creators. This time around, we get a new set of images from Jack Quaid and Karl Urban.
In an image carousel shared by Quaid on social media, Hughie (Quaid) and Butcher (Urban) are seen flipping off the world. Given there’s no blood on them seems like they are filming the non-gory part of the story. The image is also interesting, given that at the end of Season 4, Hughie was caught by the psychic Cindy while Butcher was nowhere around. So, for these characters to reunite again is a welcome sight and a major season 5 tease for fans.

“Is He a Man Or a Monster?“: Eric Kripke Digs Into Butcher’s Complex Morality in 'The Boys' Season 5

When we first met Karl Urban’s Billy Butcher in the first episode of Prime Video’s The Boys, he was a man on a mission. And what was his mission, exactly? A vengeance-filled quest that also put him on a collision course with numerous difficult-to-accept truths. Caught in his laser focus (pun intended) was the leader of the superhero group known as The Seven, Antony Starr’s Homelander. The bloodthirsty and morally deplorable supe is objectively the title’s primary villain, but, as we’ve watched Butcher toe the fine line of morality over the last four seasons, will he fully step over to the dark side for the upcoming fifth and final season?
The answer to that question is one that series creator, Eric Kripke, recently teased while chatting with TV Insider. Putting it in the hands of the audience to speculate until the fifth and final season arrives somewhere down the line,...

The Boys has never been afraid of staying in line with the times. In fact, it’s kind of the Prime Video series’ whole thing. Whether intentional or not, the show has mirrored many of the things actually happening in our world, and its upcoming fifth and final season will be no different. But, the last batch of episodes won’t only paint a clearer picture of how the fictional universe’s politics parallel our own, but, according to series creator, Eric Kripke, the primary antagonist and protagonist will also begin to blur together as one.
While chatting with TV Insider, Kripke was quick to point out the close comparisons between the leader of the titular anti-supe vigilante team, Billy Butcher (Karl Urban), and his archnemesis, Homelander (Antony Starr). Setting up what’s to come in the fifth season, Kripke teased,
“[Homelander’s] story in the season was one of mortality and legacy.

Eric Kripke teases the intense emotional arcs to come in The Boys season 5. Kripke is the showrunner for the Prime Video series, which is based on the comic book series by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson. The series began in 2019 and has had four completed seasons and one season of a spinoff series Gen V. The Boys season 5 is currently in development, and will see the return of the popular character Soldier Boy, who was teased at the end of season 4. The show's returning cast also includes Anthony Starr, Jack Quaid, Karl Urban, Erin Moriarty, and Laz Alonso.
In an interview with TV Insider, Kripke discusses the character arcs to come in The Boys season 5. The Boys' fifth and final season culminates the long-running Homelander saga, with fans awaiting the payoff to his many controversies and an expected clash with Billy Butcher. As deplorable and self-serving as Homelander can be, showrunner Eric Kripke believes that despite the Seven leader's dastardly ways, there is something less sinister at the heart of the character that fuels him.
Speaking with TV Insider, Kripke teased what fans can expect from Homelander in Season 5 and offered insight into what makes Antony Starr's character tick. Though Homelander is hard to sympathize with, considering his penchant for chaos, Kripke insists his desire to be loved is at the root of his complexities.

The composers on The Boys are apparently going to have to wait a long time, if at all, for a note or two from creator Eric Kripke on how to do better.
After performing spirited pieces from the Prime Video superhero drama at Deadline’s Sound & Screen: Television event, composers Christopher Lennertz and Matt Bowen were asked if they’ve ever been scolded for going too far with their music.
“I’ve never gotten a note saying I’ve gone too far. If anything, it’s I can go farther,” Lennertz said. “Eric usually says make me give you a note, and I never seem to get that if I tried.”

The Boys may be gearing up for its final chapter at Prime Video, but showrunner Eric Kripke is taking a look back at Season 4’s standout moments. While the series about a titular group of vigilantes who aim to keep misbehaved superheroes in line was originally presented as a battle between well-intentioned rule-benders and an ignorant group of self-serving “Supes,” it has been revealed as an eerily timely reflection of our current politically charged climate. At the core is the never-ending push-pull dynamic between Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) and the all-powerful American Flag-clad Supe Homelander (Antony Starr), which continued into Season 4 and will carry on in Season 5. As viewers will recall, Season 4 opened with Homelander on trial for publicly lasering a protester to death and concluded with an essential coup of the government, placing Homelander’s allies in the White House, where they implemented the deputization of Supes. In other words,...

Havoc (2025) isn’t your typical action thriller. Directed by Gareth Evans — the man behind The Raid — this Netflix Original stars Tom Hardy as a detective who dives deep into a city crumbling under corruption after a drug deal spirals out of control. From what we’ve seen in early reviews and trailers, it’s not just about high-octane fights and shootouts. There’s a darker layer about broken systems, survival, and redemption. If that kind of gritty, relentless energy is your thing, then you’ll definitely want to check out these movies like Havoc. Each one brings its own intense flavor of crime, chaos, and complicated heroes.
Kill Zone (Spl)
If you’re on the hunt for movies like Havoc that mix intense action with heavy emotions, Kill Zone (also known as Spl) is a solid pick. Just like Havoc, this one’s all about the blurry lines between right and wrong.

Video game movies do not have a great reputation, but their reputation is getting better. As modern filmmakers do a better job of understanding and cracking the source material, adapting it faithfully and effectively for the silver screen, the overall stats for video game adaptations seem to be on the rise, with better and better movie versions coming out all the time.
Still, the history of video game movies remains littered with cheap cash-ins and well-intentioned disappointments, and you can really tell from looking at all the live-action horror movies that have come out in the last few decades. Scary video games are incredibly immersive, but many of the movies based on those games have fallen prey to unconvincing production values, amateurish writing/directing/acting, and bizarre and ridiculous tones that weren’t necessarily in the games to begin with.

How do you make anyone care for a new television show in a time where vertical content has taken over our lives? Half the battle of creating a hit TV show is getting people to care, and networks have to do it fast. First impressions are everything in this world. A great pilot, more so, has a handful of things to take care of. It has to introduce characters, set up the plot, establish the universe, and so on.
The best pilots, however, don’t waste time since they have only a few precious seconds to create a connection with viewers. Dramas, comedies, and everything in between, we’re looking at 10 TV pilots that mastered the art of the immediate hook and have proven that sometimes, all it takes is a few scenes to get the job done.

It was announced earlier this year that The Boys Season 5 would feature a Supernatural reunion, with Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins joining Jensen Ackles in the cast of the final season. The team has since shared several behind-the-scenes looks at the highly anticipated reunion coming in the next season of The Boys, which has also been in production for months. Collins has shared another photo of the group on his personal Instagram, except this time, they’re not on The Boys Season 5 set; they’re back in Dean Winchester’s legendary 1967 Chevy Impala. Back in 2012, Karl Urban starred as all-encompassing law enforcement officer Judge Dredd in Alex Garland's cult movie Dredd. Now, 13 years later, rumors are circulating that Urban could make a triumphant return to our screens as the titular character. The reported reboot comes in the form of a TV series from the production team behindThe Boys, where Urban plays fan-favorite Billy Butcher.
The 2012 Dredd movie was a pretty good comic book movie, but it was very much let down by frankly terrible marketing (or lack thereof). Helmed by Pete Travis (Civil War) and written by Alex Garland (28 Days Later), Dredd suffered badly at the box office. The reported numbers suggest it took just $41.5 million from a $30-$45 million budget. Of course, it may well have been bogged down by other genre movies of the years; all eyes were on The Avengers at the time, for instance.

With season two of “The Last of Us” now underway and director David F. Sandberg‘s adaptation of Until Dawn arriving in theaters this Friday, horror video game adaptations are having a moment. That doesn’t even touch on the box office juggernaut that is Minecraft, or sequels Mortal Kombat 2 and Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 arriving later this year.
It doesn’t appear that the horror video game adaptation trend will slow down any time soon, with Barbarian director Zach Cregger gearing up to take on Resident Evil and André Øvredal (The Last Voyage of the Demeter) attached to direct Bendy and the Ink Machine.
All of this to say that movies based on video games have come a very long way since 1993’s Super Mario Bros., especially in the genre space. This week’s streaming picks are dedicated to horror video game adaptations. Here’s where to stream these five horror movies.

Over a decade after it was released in 2012, Dredd, starring Karl Urban, has become a cult classic. Adapted from the comic book series 2000 Ad by John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra, the film was directed by Pete Travis, with Ex Machina and Civil War director, Alex Garland, penning the screenplay. However, when the film was released, there was a lot of controversy and debate surrounding Travis' actual involvement in the film. Reports were released stating that Travis abandoned the project late in production, and that Garland technically made his directorial debut by filling in and completing the movie.
During a recent interview with GQ to promote his upcoming movie, Warfare, Alex Garland clarified the long-running dispute surrounding Dredd, and said that fans have been way too harsh and dismissive of Pete Travis' contributions to the movie. Since at least his appearance in Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy, Karl Urban has been building quite the impressive resume, particularly carving out a niche for himself as a fan favorite in the Sci-Fi and Fantasy space. Although Urban hasn't quite become a household name in the same way some of his co-stars have, he continues to get pretty significant roles in high-profile movies and TV shows.
Some of the highlights of Urban's filmography from the late 90s to now include:

Amazon MGM Studios is reportedly exploring a new television series centered on the iconic comic book character Judge Dredd, with Karl Urban potentially returning to the role he played in the 2012 film. Sources suggest the project is in early talks, with Amazon keen to capitalize on Urban’s popularity following his standout performance in The Boys.
The 2012 Dredd movie, despite its modest box office performance of $41 million worldwide, gained a strong cult following for its gritty, faithful adaptation of the comic. It earned $13.4 million in North America and $27.6 million internationally, with the UK being a key market, grossing $6.9 million.
The film’s critical reception was solid, holding an 80% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, praised for its intense action and loyalty to the source material. However, its marketing was widely criticized, with Urban himself noting it suffered from “zero audience awareness.”

Warfare filmmaker Alex Garland has confirmed rumours that he ghost-directed 2012’s Dredd, even though Pete Travis is listed in the credits.
Before Alex Garland became an acclaimed director, he was a novelist and then screenwriter. However, the Civil War filmmaker’s step into directing stemmed from – in part at least – a desire to have to not relinquish control over the creative process once cameras start rolling, something most writers simply have to accept as the way things are.
With 2012’s Dredd, Garland was determined for this to not be the case, and rumours have long suggested the working relationship on set between he and Pete Travis – the film’s credited director – was not as clean-cut as most film productions. A few years ago, the film’s star Karl Urban publicly stated that Garland directed the film, which did little to dampen the speculation.

A few years ago, the film’s star Karl Urban publicly stated that Garland directed the film, which did little to dampen the speculation.
Years later, Garland has finally opened up...

It looks like a longstanding rumor surrounding a modern sci-fi action classic has finally been confirmed. The movie in question is 2012's "Dredd," which was written by Alex Garland of "28 Days Later" and "Never Let Me Go" fame (among many other things). Garland has, in the years since that movie first hit theaters, become a notable director, helming everything from the Oscar-winning "Ex-Machina" to "Civil War." But it turns out he also had a secret hand in directing Karl Urban as Judge Dredd.
In a recent interview with GQ that saw Garland breaking down his filmography, the filmmaker revealed that he has done some ghost-directing in his day. While he didn't get into specifics, it's crystal clear he was talking about the beloved box office bomb that was "Dredd." Here's what Garland had to say:

Season 5 picks up after a full-blown political collapse and brings in new faces for the show’s final chapter.
There’s just nothing else like “The Boys.” It’s the superhero show I always wanted — dark, twisted, scarily relevant, and hilarious. Every season finds a new way to raise the stakes without losing its edge, and it never pulls its punches (literally or figuratively). Whether it’s exploding heads, corrupt Supes, or political chaos that hits a little too close to home, this show keeps delivering. With the fifth and final season on the horizon, here’s everything you need to know about “The Boys” Season 5.

It’s been nine years since the third Star TrekKelvin Timeline movie, Star Trek: Beyond, premiered in theaters in 2016. The film, directed by Justin Lin (The Fast and the Furious franchise) and produced by J.J. Abrams, was co-written by Simon Pegg and Doug Jung. The Kelvin movies began in 2009 with Star Trek and continued with 2013’s Star Trek: Into Darkness, which starred Chris Pine as James T. Kirk, Zachary Quinto as Spock, Karl Urban as McCoy, and Pegg as Montgomery “Scotty” Scott.
Rumors have circulated about a fourth movie since the conclusion of the third as each of the three films performed well at the box office. Star Trek earned $385.7 million, Into Darkness earned $464.7, and Beyond earned $343.5 million. A new episode of our What Happened to This Horror Movie? video series has just been released, and with this one we’re taking a look back at the 2012 sci-fi action film Dredd (watch it Here), which is based on the same comic book source material as the 1995 Sylvester Stallone movie Judge Dredd, but took a more faithful approach to the adaptation. You can hear all about it by checking out the video embedded above.
The official word is that Dredd was directed by Pete Travis from a screenplay by Alex Garland, although we were told that Garland actually directed the movie. The film has the following synopsis: The America of the post-apocalyptic future is an irradiated wasteland, a vast, ultraviolent world where criminals control the mean city streets. Ultimate law enforcers like Dredd and his new partner, Anderson, are Judges—the only force battling for justice. Dispatched by the central authority,...

“There’s so many shows that pull punches now… that want to take the correct boxes and do things right, and this has never been a show that’s done that,” says actor Antony Starr at Deadline’s Contenders TV panel for The Boys, alongside fellow stars Jack Quaid and Erin Moriarty. “It’s always been unapologetically itself in its own lane.”
Based on the New York Times best-selling comic book by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, The Boys follows a group of vigilantes who aim to keep corrupt superheroes in check. In Season 4, Victoria Neuman (Claudia Doumit) is closer than ever to the Oval Office and under the thumb of Homelander (Antony Starr). The dying Butcher (Karl Urban) is still reeling from losing his job as The Boys’ leader and trust of his fellow teammates. With the stakes higher than ever, they have to find a way to work...

As The Boys gears up for its highly anticipated final season, Antony Starr (Homelander) has shared his reaction to reading the final scripts — and it sounds like fans are in for a wild, unpredictable ride. With Season 5 marking the end for Prime Video's subserve superhero show, expectations are sky-high.
Starr talked to Collider about his mixed emotions regarding the show’s ending. While he’s grateful for the success and longevity of The Boys, he also believes that ending at Season 5 is the right call.
It’s strange because as much as I love the show, I don't like seeing things outstay their welcome, so I'm kind of glad we're finishing at five, and that's it. I love the show and the characters, so it's a bittersweet moment.Antony Starr
This should come as a relief to fans who have seen other popular series lose momentum by overstaying their welcome.

Prime Video's The Boys is coming to an end with its fifth and final season, and Antony Starr (who plays Homelander on the show) promises that fans aren't ready for the shocking finale. Based on the graphic novels by Garth Ennis, The Boys is set in a world where superheroes are so common place, they have become pawns to be bought and sold by American entertainment companies and defense contractors. Across four seasons, we've watched the titular team, led by Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) lead the underground fight to eradicate the egotistical 'supes, and Season 5 will bring the dramatic battle to its long-awaited conclusion.
During an interview with Collider to promote his new movie G20, Antony Starr was asked about production on The Boys' final season, which is currently ongoing. The actor didn't reveal any plot details about Season 5, but he said that the time feels right for the hit...

Warner Bros. has plenty of horror offerings on its slate and showcased a few of them during its presentation at CinemaCon, including Maggie Gyllenhaalʼs The Bride.
Audiences were treated to a teaser trailer for The Bride, which star Jessie Buckley (who plays the titular character) described as “the punkest love that’s ever existed.” Think Bonnie and Clyde, Wild at Heart, Sid & Nancy, and Natural Born Killers. The teaser finds Buckley’s character being horrifically murdered, but she’s later reanimated and meets Christian Bale as Frankenstein’s monster. The pair set out to avenge her murder and become fugitives.
Gyllenhaal said she was looking for something “pop and big” and “radical” for her next project. She encountered a man at a party with a Bride of Frankenstein tattoo on his arm. “It hooked me and I went home and watched the movie,” she said. “The bride is in the...

Mortal Kombat 2 kicked its way into the Colosseum at Caesar’s Palace Tuesday, where New Line chief Richard Brenner introduced the first footage from the film.
A sizzle reel teased the video game adaptation’s key characters, including Karl Urban as Johnny Cage. “I am Johnny fucking Cage,” Urban says in the clip. “It’s showtime.”
Brenner said of Mortal Kombat 2, “Expect amazing fights, epic battles and a few fatalities.” It hits theaters Oct. 24.
The feature is based on the popular video game franchise that dates back to the 1990s. It arrives four years after the previous Mortal Kombat movie hit amid the pandemic and hails from returning director Simon McQuoid. This time, Urban headlines as fan-favorite character Johnny Cage, with Tati Gabrielle joining the franchise as Jade and Adeline Rudolph joining as Kitana. One of the deadliest characters in the Mortal Kombat universe has just been immortalized with a new collectible. Iron Studios has officially released the first images of a new Kung Lao figure from Mortal Kombat, showing the deadly warrior standing atop a pool of skulls, the remains of anyone foolish enough to face him. The figure is based on Kung Lao’s appearance in the Mortal Kombat video game franchise instead of Max Huang’s portrayal of the character in the 2021 film, a role that he will reprise in the sequel coming to theaters later this year. The new Kung Lao figure retails for $199.99 and is now available for pre-order from IronStudios.com. It will be shipped out worldwide later this year between October and December.
This isn’t the first time this year that Iron Studios has given a new figure to a character from the Mortal Kombat franchise.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan has become a household name for his roles in shows such as Supernatural, The Walking Dead, and The Boys, but before all of that, the actor appeared in the ever-popular medical drama Grey's Anatomy. While he was originally only meant to star in a few episodes, as a patient being treated for heart failure, the actor ended up having a bigger role than expected, as he lived on as a ghost who appeared to Katherine Heigl’s Izzie Stevens. However, Morgan revealed that he cannot watch his initial scenes for two reasons.
20 years ago, Morgan appeared in Season 2 of Grey’s Anatomy as Denny Duquette, a patient who ends up stealing the heart of medic Izzie, even though their romance is doomed before it even begins. While reflecting on the show with Entertainment Weekly, Morgan explained why he cannot watch his character’s death in the Season 2 finale.

Jason Sudeikis has reunited with one of his biggest nemeses after punching him in The Mandalorian Season 1 finale. The Ted Lasso actor spent some time at Galaxy’s Edge this week and paid a visit to The Mandalorian and Grogu. Sudeikis plays one of the two Bike Scout Troopers in the Season 1 finale who kidnaps Grogu and then smacks him in the head when he’s sitting on the back of the bike, but this isn’t common knowledge as he never takes off his helmet. The other Scout Trooper is portrayed by Adam Pally, the Sonic the Hedgehog star who even played Wade Whipple in the Knuckles spin-off series. Sudeikis and Pally join the likes of Daniel Craig, Ben Schwartz, and Karl Urban as famous actors who have played Imperial troopers in Star Wars.

When considering who could play an ancient Roman philosopher, few great actors come to mind more quickly than John Malkovich. He has the ability to easily slide into regal, careful, sometimes pompous, sometimes painfully self-aware performances befitting of archaic geniuses. From the trailer and images, it looks like he's bringing all that to his portrayal of the eponymous stoic in the film Seneca (also known as Seneca: On the Creation of Earthquakes). Freestyle Digital Media, the digital film distribution division of Byron Allen’s Allen Media Group, acquired the VOD rights to the historical drama, also featuring Geraldine Chaplin and Tom Xander. While it was filmed years ago, it will finally be available in North America on digital platforms, cable, and satellite platforms, as well as on DVD, starting April 8, 2025. Watch the trailer below:

As shooting for the fifth and final season of Prime Video's The Boys continues, Antony Starr has shared a behind-the-scenes photo from the set to Instagram along with two throwback snaps from the previous season and some unused concept art.
Starr is suited-up as Homelander in the set photo, and it doesn't look like there's been any major alterations to his costume. There was speculation that the leader of The Seven might don a new outfit for this final season after he took a step closer to the White House in the season 4 finale.
The actor also revealed some artwork for Ryan's (Cameron Crovetii) "Homeboy" costume, which never actually made the cut. Ryan appeared to fully give himself over to the "dark side" after killing Grace Mallory (Laila Robins) in the finale, so perhaps we'll see him suit-up alongside his father at some point in season 5.

Warner Bros.'s 2021 reboot of Mortal Kombat was a fun and delightfully bloody film featuring plenty of fan service while telling a cohesive story anyone unfamiliar with the games could follow. It was a massive hit on the service formally known as HBO Max, becoming the most-streamed title of that year. But despite its overall quality, the movie suffered from both a lack of scope and a lack of female characters among its large and diverse cast. Both of which director Simon McQuoid promises will be addressed in the upcoming sequel Mortal Kombat 2.
McQuoid, who made his feature directorial debut with Mortal Kombat and sits behind the helm of the sequel, told Entertainment Weekly that in addition to returning cast member Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Mortal Kombat 2 will also feature Adeline Rudolph as Kitana, Tati Gabrielle as Jade, Ana Thu Nguyen as Queen Sindel, and several other as yet-undisclosed characters.

Training is over, as the stakes of Mortal Kombat 2's tournament will have consequences for the film and the franchise moving forward. It has been four years since Mortal Kombat debuted in theaters and on Max, and the long-anticipated sequel Mortal Kombat 2 is set to hit theaters in October 2025. A common criticism of 2021's Mortal Kombat was how it essentially acted as a set-up for the epic tournament played in the games, but it is now the main selling point of the sequel and a major factor in the narrative.

Sylvester Stallone's "Judge Dredd" is not remembered as one of the best sci-fi movies ever, to say the least. Lambasted by critics and disliked by audiences, the 1995 film earned a disappointing $113.5 million at the global box office against a $90 million budget and remains conspicuously absent from lists of Stallone's finest films.
To his credit, Stallone hasn't attempted to bury his futuristic flop. Instead, he's been known to discuss the film when the opportunity calls for it. In 2006, the star addressed some of the issues "Judge Dredd" had while answering fan questions for Ain't It Cool News:
"I think, from what I recall, the whole project was troubled from the beginning. The philosophy of the film was not set in stone – by that I mean 'Is this going to be a serious drama or with comic overtones' like other science fiction films that were successful? So a lotta pieces just didn't fit smoothly.

The legendary rivalry between Scorpion and Sub-Zero is set to continue throughout Mortal Kombat 2, with the original game’s co-creator offering insight into the former’s role in the upcoming sequel. Based on the hit video game franchise of the same name, 2021’s Mortal Kombat reboot first introduced Shōgun’s Hiroyuki Sanada as Hanzo Hasashi, a warrior of the Shirai Ryu clan in feudal Japan who was killed by a rival clan member, Bi-Han (Sub-Zero). Following his death, Hanzo’s soul was condemned to the Netherrealm, where his desire for vengeance saw him transform into the Hellfire-wielding Scorpion.

Multiple characters killed off in the first film will be returning in Mortal Kombat 2. However, fans should know that there will be a good storyline explanation for this rather than falling back on hokey tricks.
Ed Boon, who co-created Mortal Kombat with John Tobias, teased what fans can expect from the new movie. Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, he confirmed that lore from the video games will influence how characters like Josh Lawson's Kano and Max Huang's Kung Lao appear in Mortal Kombat 2 after having unfortunate fates in the previous film. As Boon noted, fans of the recent games are already very familiar with deceased characters returning, opening the door to make this possible.
"I can say Josh Lawson doesn't play Kano's twin," Boon said. "We've killed a number of characters who are in Mortal Kombat 1 and our latest games. So we deal with spirits and the NetherRealm and things like that.
