He acted in the musical revue, "A Thurber Carnival," at the Hanna Theatre in Cleveland, Ohio with Tom Ewell, Peggy Cass, Paul Ford, John McGiver, Alice Ghostley and Wynne Miller in the cast. James Thurber wrote the book. Don Elliott was composer and performer. Marvin Reiss was set designer. Ramse Stevens was costume designer. Burgess Meredith was director and developer. Michael Davis, Helen Bonfils, and Haila Stoddard were producers.

On stage from 1940 in 'Life With Father'. His theatrical career was interrupted by wartime service in the U.S.Army Air Corps. Resumed in 1946 with the Broadway revue 'Call Me Mister', followed by 'Inside U.S.A.' with Beatrice Lillie and 'The Beggar's Opera' with Shirley Jones. On Broadway with 'A Thurber Carnival' (1960), 'Send Me No Flowers' (1960-1961) and 'Little Me' (1962-1963), with Sid Caesar. Later involved with the Eugene O'Neill Theatre Centre in Waterford, Connecticut, as writer/director and actor.
