The One Dramatic Role That Helped Adam Scott Land Severance
Image
If you're a longtime fan of Adam Scott, you probably know him best for his comedic roles. Think of his douchey "Step Brothers" character Derek, or his hilariously awful Bad Place demon from "The Good Place," or his exasperated struggling actor Henry Pollard on "Party Down" -- or, most famously, his lovable but goofy Ben Wyatt on NBC's beloved sitcom "Parks and Recreation." So how did this funny guy end up starring in one of TV's biggest dramas? Specifically, "Severance," the massively successful and critically adored Apple TV+ drama spearheaded by Dan Erickson and Ben Stiller.

I should get one thing out of the way here, which is that "Severance" is, at times, very funny. Even in its season 2 finale "Cold Harbor," Scott's character Mark S. gets some genuinely hilarious moments, including one where he's confusedly waving a gun at a freaked-out Sandra Bernhard. Still, the show is much...

Lauren Garroni, Every Outfit Co-Creator, Just Directed Her First Erotic Thriller — but the Genre Looms Large in Her Life
Image
Lauren Garroni made her name commenting on the fashions of “Sex and the City” as one half (with Chelsea Fairless) of the genius minds behind the Every Outfit on Sex and the City Instagram account but her heart doesn’t just belong to television. She’s also a film buff who has a poster for Robert Altman’s “The Long Goodbye” on her wall — which of course means that she has her Letterboxd Top 4 answers locked and loaded. One is “The Long Goodbye.” Another is “Cruel Intentions.”

That one-two punch is telling. “Sugar Baby,” her feature film debut as director and co-writer, is a wily erotic thriller that plays with audience expectations as much as it presents a refreshingly candid look at sex workers. Garroni wanted to craft a movie that, just like her favorites, would be specific while telling a broader story.

”One of the goals, I would say...

Meanwhile, Nicole Kidman said Big Little Lies Season 3 would share "fascinating" new chapters in the characters' lives as their children grow up.

Shailene Woodley echoed a similar sentiment in an interview with Harper's Bazaar, saying, "What does life look like for those people who are not children anymore?...

Fall Into Winter Review: Sweet but Shallow

The story starts with a well-known turn of events: Kerrie’s brother Jake says he’s leaving their family’s favorite candy store, Murphy’s, and moving to London—not the one in Ohio, but the one across the Atlantic. Jake sells his share of the business to Brooks McLead, Kerrie’s old enemy and the last person she’d want as a business partner. This makes Kerrie’s life very disorganized.

Brooks isn’t like most people who elope from their jobs. He leaves his life in New York City and returns to Bedford, where...

‘Big Little Lies’: HBO Waiting For Liane Moriarty Sequel Book Ahead Of Possible Third Season
Image
A year ago, Nicole Kidman revealed that the team behind Big Little Lies were working on a third season.

Development has stalled somewhat, despite Kidman and other cast members, including Reese Witherspoon, Laura Dern and Zoe Kravitz talking up the chances of a return, at least five years after the second season aired on HBO.

Now, we know why. HBO chief Casey Bloys said that he was waiting for Liane Moriarty’s sequel book before moving forward.

“[Nicole’s] very excited. They’re all excited. We’re excited. We’re all waiting for the book, which I believe is coming soon, but I do not have a copy in my hands,” he said.

Moriarty revealed earlier this fall that she was writing a sequel to her original Big Little Lies book. The book will feature a timejump as well as new characters. “I’m writing a sequel with all the children as...

Zoë Kravitz is ready to return to Monterey, California.

The “Blink Twice” writer/director told People that she is set to reprise her role of Bonnie Carlson in “Big Little Lies” Season 3 — and has some ideas for where the story could go.

“I think Bonnie’s divorced — that’s good for her,” Kravitz said.

Kravitz’s character is married to Nathan Carlson, played by James Tupper, in the series.

While a third season has not been officially announced by HBO, Kravitz added that she knows “nothing” about the status of development but that she is “excited to do it.”

“I’m waiting to see, like everybody else, the third season that’s happening … waiting by the phone, waiting for the script to be done,” Kravitz said.

10 Best Shark Movies Since 2000, Ranked
Image
After watching a scary shark movie like Jaws or Deep Blue Sea, beach trips or water sports don't feel as alluring. Shark movies like these often exploit a viewer's inherent fear of flesh-eating sharks, even though attacks in real life are surprisingly uncommon. They make viewers feel scared and intimidated by the water, even when they're in scenic, beautiful locations. Many a vacation has been destroyed by this subgenre of horror.

Shark movies from the year 2000 onward are often more frightening than the films that came before them, having been made on higher budgets and with enhanced special or practical effects. There are often gorier action sequences and more life-like antagonists. Some contemporary shark movies, like Sharknado or The Meg, go the opposite route and have fun with the genre, adding humor and levity to the horror. Either way, there are plenty of top-notch shark movies from the last 20 years worth watching.

They were joined by Meryl Streep in the second season, with supporting roles played by Alexander Skarsgård, Adam Scott, James Tupper, Jeffrey Nordling, Kathryn Newton, and Iain Armitage.

Maggie Grace, Stephen Amell, and Poppy Drayton in When Calls the Heart (2013)
When Calls the Heart Season 10 ended with what can only be described as a tease about Lori Loughlin’s return as Abigail Stanton Now there are questions about whether or not fans would get their wish during Season 11.

In a new interview with TV Insider, Erin Krakow, who headlines the Hallmark hit and serves as an executive producer, admitted that she would love for Loughlin to return as Abigail.

Sadly, it doesn’t sound like a return is in the cards soon, with Krakow being cautious about getting “people’s hopes up too high.”

“Abigail does not currently return in Season 11, and I hope that doesn’t feel like a bait and switch for anyone when they see Gowen go to her door at the end of Season 10,” Krakow affirmed, before teasing how Gowen will navigate the aftermath of that development.

“It is more about Gowen’s journey to self-discovery and self-forgiveness.

Martin) because he now has the answers he’s been after for years. As he, Marisa (Maahra Hill), Kylie (Travina Springer), Phoebe (Molly Kunz), Rizwan (Arash DeMaxi), and Rose (Karen David) discover, the bombing that left Alec scarred was to cover up one of Senator Sanford’s (James Tupper) staffers dying during one of his events a couple days earlier; she was one of the victims at the church. ‘The Irrational’ Star Maahra Hill Previews Next Episode: ‘Everyone Is In Danger’
Image
The good news: Marisa (Maahra Hill) is probably getting close to solving the mystery of the church bombing that left her ex-husband Alec (Jesse L. Martin) scarred years ago. The bad news: We can only deduce that because someone has bugged her house! The latest episode of The Irrational ended with Marisa telling Jace (Brian King) that though their suspect, Senator Sanford (James Tupper), had been up in the polls and therefore had no reason to bomb the church in hopes of getting the sympathy vote, it’s possible that someone from his team who had been designated for clean-up of his campaign event was the target. But as she showed him the space she’d made for him in her closet—after being hesitant when he brought up the subject earlier—we saw that someone was listening in. Below, Hill talks about that, Marisa’s complicated feelings for both Jace and Alec,...

Laura Dern has shared an update on Big Little Lies season 3. The dark comedy is based on Liane Moriarty's thriller novel of the same name and follows five mothers whose picturesque lives in Monterey, California begin to unravel when they get entangled in a murder mystery. Cold Copy Review | A Dull Skewering of Ruthless Media Tactics
Image
Cold Copy criticizes unethical media tactics and highlights the lack of integrity among reporters. The film feels amateurish and one-note, and treats its message with a sledgehammer, though Jacob Tremblay is particularly good. The characters in Cold Copy lack depth and realism, which undermines the overall impact of the movie.

A ruthless journalism student manipulates a troubled teenager to obtain an exposé for her domineering professor, the combative host of an investigative news program. Cold Copy skewers media tactics, unscrupulous reporters, and their cutthroat methods with a dull edge. The sledgehammer message is that those willing to do anything for a story lack integrity and sully a sacred public duty. The search for the truth cannot be tarred with lies. That's clearly evident in a film utterly devoid of nuance and realistic character dynamics.

Mia Scott (Bel Powley) nervously awaits her interview with the famed Diane Heger (Tracee Ellis Ross...

This one originally premiered at the 2023 Tribeca Film Festival last year, and also at the Deauville American Film Festival. An ambitious journalism student falls under the compelling thrall of an esteemed yet cutthroat news reporter whom she's desperate to impress, even if it means manipulating her latest story... and the very idea of truth itself. This journalism thriller stars Tracee Ellis Ross, Bel Powley, and Jacob Tremblay as the kid she tries to profile, along with James Tupper, Nesta Cooper, Ekaterina Baker, and more. The film's writer / director Roxine Helberg stated: "In making my first feature, I set out to explore the personal cost of the manipulation of truth." This doesn't look so bad,...

'Revenge's Emily and Jack Shouldn't Have Ended Up Together
Image
For four seasons, ABC’s Revenge followed the devious, manipulative, and beguiling Emily Thorne (Emily VanCamp) as she sought revenge against those who wrongfully framed her father for terrorism — namely, Conrad (Henry Czerny) and Victoria Grayson (Madeleine Stowe). With a fake identity, an ally in Nolan Ross (Gabriel Macht), and vengeance to enact, Emily started her new life in the Hamptons as she secretly began to use everything she had learned to plot against and take down the Grayson family and their co-conspirators in the crime that stole her father, David Clarke (James Tupper), away from her. However, one tie to her childhood as Amanda Clarke (played in flashbacks by Emily Alyn Lind) remained: Jack Porter (Nick Wechsler), whom she had lingering feelings for and (eventually) married. Great American Family’s TV Rise: CEO Bill Abbott on Candace Cameron Bure Backlash and Why His Network Is ‘For All People’
Image
Great American Family’s biggest time of the year is here. The network, run by former Hallmark CEO Bill Abbott, is leaning in to the holiday season big time, after seeing a year of massive growth.

According to the year-over-year data, Gaf is up 150% in total viewers in 2023 compared to 2022, and the success can be credited to multiple factors, Abbott tells Variety.

“One of the biggest parts of our growth has been our talent, and the fact that we have such recognizable stars in our stable of talent — and that they are relentless in promoting Great American Family,” he says. “That, in and of itself, has created the awareness necessary to grow like we have.”

Candace Cameron Bure, Trevor Donovan, Jen Lilley, Danica McKellar and Jessica Lowndes all have exclusive deals with Gaf, while their Christmas movie lineup also includes Matthew Morrison, Chad Michael Murray, Lori Loughlin, Jill Wagner and James Tupper.
