Trump Calls for Investigation into Springsteen, Other Musicians Who Supported Kamala Harris
Image
With Bruce Springsteen continuing his on-stage criticism of Donald Trump, the president is now calling for an investigation into the musician’s past association with Kamala Harris.

Early Monday morning, Trump announced via Truth Social the launch of a “major investigation” looking into whether campaign appearances by Springsteen, Beyoncé, Bono, and Oprah Winfrey in support of Harris during her 2024 president run constituted as “illegal campaign contributions.”

“Candidates aren’t allowed to pay for Endorsements, which is what Kamala did, under the guise of paying for entertainment,” Trump added. “In addition, this was a very expensive and desperate effort to artificially build up her sparse crowds. It’S Not Legal! For these unpatriotic ‘entertainers,’ this was just a Corrupt & Unlawful way to capitalize on a broken system.”

Financial records released since the 2024 presidential campaign reveal that Harris’ campaign spent a significant amount of money on rallies and events featuring celebrity endorsers like Oprah,...

Trump Preps for Putin Call With Another Meltdown Over Bruce Springsteen
Image
President Donald Trump has demanded an investigation into Bruce Springsteen and other artists who supported former Vice President Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign, after the singer has repeatedly told crowds at his concerts that the president is an “unfit” man running “a rogue government.”

The president — who is scheduled to hold a high-stakes phone call with Russia’s Vladimir Putin on Monday morning — wrote on Truth Social early the same morning that he was “going to call for a major investigation” into what compensation Springsteen received from the 2024 Harris campaign.

Donald Trump Says He Plans To Call For Investigation Of Kamala Harris’ Endorsements From Bruce Springsteen, Beyoncé And Other Celebrities
Image
Bruce Springsteen’s criticisms of Donald Trump last week appear to have triggered the president even further, as he is now calling for an investigation of the superstar singer’s endorsement of Kamala Harris, as well as other entertainers.

Trump wrote on Truth Social, “How Much Did Kamala Harris Pay Bruce Springsteen For His Poor Performance During Her Campaign For President? Why Did He Accept That Money If He Is Such A Fan Of Hers? Isn’T That A Major And Illegal Campaign Contribution? What About BEYONCÉ? …And How Much Went To Oprah, And Bono??? I am going to call for a major investigation into this matter. Candidates aren’t allowed to pay for Endorsements, which is what Kamala did, under the guise of paying for entertainment. In addition, this was a very expensive and desperate effort to artificially build up her sparse crowds. It’S Not Legal! For these unpatriotic ‘entertainers,...

Image
Former President Joe Biden posted his first comment since his office revealed that he has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer.

Biden posted on X, “Cancer touches us all. Like so many of you, Jill and I have learned that we are strongest in the broken places. Thank you for lifting us up with love and support.”

On Sunday, his office announced that he “was seen for a new finding of a prostate nodule after experiencing increasing urinary symptoms. On Friday, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, characterized by a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5) with metastasis to the bone,” the statement said. “While this represents a more aggressive form of the disease, the cancer appears to be hormone-sensitive which allows for effective management.”

Throughout his career, Biden has shared his own experiences recovering from tragedy and health crises. Shortly after he was first elected to the...

Wes Anderson makes fun of Trump tariffs: “Can you hold up the movie in customs?”
Image
The Phoenician Scheme director Wes Anderson has mocked Donald Trump’s proposed 100% tariffs on films made outside the US.

“The tariff is interesting because I’ve never heard of a 100% tariff before,” said Anderson in a tongue-in-cheek response to a question from Screenat the Cannes press conference for his Competition title.

“I’m not an expert in that area of economics, but I feel that means he’s saying he’s going to take all the money. And then what do we get? So it’s complicated to me. Can you hold up the movie in customs? It doesn’t ship that way.

Wes Anderson Questions Tariff Proposal, Teases Future Project at Cannes Press Event
Wes Anderson
Wes Anderson appeared before reporters Monday to discuss his new film, The Phoenician Scheme, and address President Trump’s recently mentioned plan for a 100 percent tariff on films made outside the U.S. Speaking at the Cannes Film Festival alongside Benicio Del Toro, Benedict Cumberbatch, Riz Ahmed and Mia Threapleton, Anderson said he needs more information before responding.

“I’ve never heard of a 100 percent tariff,” he said, then asked the press, “Can you hold up the movie in customs? I want to know the details first.” His remarks drew laughter from the room, where crew and cast packed the press room.

The Phoenician Scheme, Anderson’s fourth competition entry at Cannes, follows Zsa-zsa Korda (Del Toro), a reclusive magnate threatened by multiple attempts on his life. At the center is Korda’s cryptic plan to transfer his wealth to his daughter, a young nun, through an elaborate financial operation.

John Oliver Mocks Trump’s Press Room ‘Suck Ups’ & Shares His Love for ‘Doctor Odyssey’
Image
John Oliver took aim at President Donald Trump and his increasingly ‘sycophantic’ White House press room briefings on Sunday night’s (May 18) episode of Last Week Tonight. The late-night host touched on how Trump has been “stocking the press room with suck ups” and “managing to get the sycophantic questions he prefers” during his recent press briefings despite the Associated Press being allowed back in the Oval Office. “And even if you haven’t noticed that, he definitely has,” Oliver said before throwing to a montage of the President responding to praise-heavy questions by saying, “I love this guy.” In one clip, Trump says, “I love this guy, whoever the hell that is.” “That’s pretty humiliating,” Oliver responded. “And not just because ‘I love this guy, whoever the hell that is,’ is almost definitely how Trump opened a toast at Eric’s [Trump] wedding.” “It’s no coincidence that Trump...

Wes Anderson Calls Trump’s Proposed Tariffs ‘Fascinating’: ‘I Feel Like He’s Saying He’s Going to Take All the Money’
Image
As an American writer-director who now lives and makes his films in Europe, Wes Anderson could be a target for Donald Trump’s proposed tariffs on films made outside the U.S. But at a press conference at the Cannes Film Festival on Monday, Anderson mostly appeared confused by the president’s vague proclamations.

“The tariff is fascinating,” Anderson said when asked about the issue. “I’ve never heard of a 100% tariff. I feel that he’s saying he’s going to take all the money, and then what do we get?”

He grinned and shrugged. “It’s complicated to me. Can you hold up the movie in customs? I want to know the details first. And I’ll hold off on my official answer.”

Anderson made the comments at a press conference with actors Benicio del Toro, Benedict Cumberbatch, Michael Cera, Mia Threapleton, Riz Ahmed, Rupert Friend and Richard Ayoade.

Wes Anderson Teases Next Project With Richard Ayoade & Roman Coppola – Cannes
Image
Wes Anderson largely kept tightlipped about his next feature project other than to say it does “have a darkness.” He’s collaborating with Roman Coppola again, who the filmmaker always co-writes with, as well as The Phoenician Scheme star Richard Ayoade on the next title.

Anderson didn’t specify whether Ayoade was starring and/or co-writing. Ayoade starred in two Roald Dahl short adaptations of Anderson’s: Oscar winner The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar and The Rat Catcher. Ayoade plays Sergio in Phoenician Scheme, which is Anderson’s fourth pic to premiere in Competition at Cannes.

Wes Anderson, who shot his fourth Cannes premiere, The Phoenician Scheme, at Studio Babelsberg in Germany, was called to the carpet in the press room about his thoughts on President Donald Trump’s suggested tariffs on film and TV imports.

“Tariffs are fascinating. I’ve never heard of a 100% tariff before,” the Oscar winner said. “I feel that means he’s saying he’s going to take all the money, and then what do we get? It’s complicated to me. Does that mean you can hold up the movie in customs?

Wes Anderson Mocks Trump’s Movie Tariffs at Cannes: ‘Can You Hold Up the Movie in Customs? It Doesn’t Ship That Way’
Image
Wes Anderson skewered Donald Trump’s proposed tariff on movies shot abroad at a Cannes press conference for his new film “The Phoenician Scheme,” questioning how it will work.

“Can you hold up the movie in customs? It doesn’t ship that way,” the director said, evoking a chorus of laughter.

“The Phoenician Scheme,” which features a sprawling cast of Anderson regulars, shot in partly Germany. When asked about the tariffs, Anderson initially replied: “I thought you said he was giving us a plug or something. Did Trump see it?”

But he then went on to mock the idea: “The tariff is interesting because I’ve never heard of a 100% tariff before. I’m not an expert in that area of economics, but I feel that means he’s saying he’s going to take all the money. And then what do we what do we get? So it’s complicated to me.

Strong Festival, Soft Market at Cannes Enters Final Stretch
Image
Politics continues to trump business at this year’s Cannes film festival, with little in the way of deals out of the Marché, but lots of activist agitation on the red carpet and beyond.

Cannes’ first weekend, traditionally the period when the bidding wars begin and the first big buys are announced, has been almost frighteningly quiet. There was a single big deal — Mubi’s $24 million multi-territory deal, including North America, the U.K., Latin America and other countries — for the Lynne Ramsay’s Jennifer Lawrence Robert Pattinson starrer Die, My Love. It was a major deal for a finished film but also threw into sharp relief the lack of major pre-sales at Cannes so far, despite a market featuring jam-packed with hot packages.

The cautious, wait-and-see approach from buyers — already in evidence in Sundance and Berlin — continues amid growing uncertainty over financing and distribution models and, let’s face it,...

John Oliver Delivers The “Hot Take” Wbd Was Expecting On HBO Max’s Rebrand, Comparing It To Gulf Name Change: “F— You, Don’t Tell Me What To Do”
Image
John Oliver does have a “hot take” on his home network’s decision to rebrand Max back into HBO Max — but he wants the head honchos at Warner Bros. Discovery to know that was his choice.

As Last Week Tonight addressed president Donald Trump’s antagonistic relationship with the press, he pointed to White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt’s justification for banning the Associated Press from the Oval Office for its editorial decision to keep referring to the Gulf of Mexico as such rather than its renamed “Gulf of America.”

“It’s not as simple as you’re making it out there,” he began, “especially because it can take time for people to adjust to a stupid name change, sometimes, hypothetically, before we could even get used to one dumb name [here the screen flashed a logo of HBO Go], some genius comes along and only makes it dumber [the graphic then replaced HBO Go with HBO Now], then somehow it gets dumber still [a switch to HBO Max], and then against all the odds,...

John Oliver Slams the “Genius” Who Keeps Changing HBO Max’s Name, Admonishes Parent Company Exec for Anticipating His “Hot Take”
Image
John Oliver didn’t disappoint his corporate overlords Sunday night by addressing the recent HBO Max name reversal — the latest in a series of changes for the streaming service.

During his main segment on Last Week Tonight, which was about President Donald Trump’s often antagonistic relationship with the press, Oliver referred to the current administration’s decision to ban the Associated Press from the Oval Office for refusing to refer to the Gulf of Mexico as the “Gulf of America,” a move Trump made soon after taking office.

Justifying the AP’s decision, Oliver noted: “It has clients all over the world, and lots of them still use the term the Gulf of Mexico, so it’s not as simple as you’re making out there, especially because it can take time for people to adjust to a stupid name change.”

He then turned to the recent decision by Warner Bros. Discovery,...

John Oliver Compares HBO Max/Max Branding Fiasco to Trump’s Renaming the Gulf of Mexico
Image
John Oliver is just as confounded as everyone else about Warner Bros. Discovery’s decision to revert the name of Max to HBO Max after just two years.

On Sunday’s episode of HBO’s “Last Week Tonight With John Oliver” — which is streaming on, um, Max/HBO Max — the host was discussing President Trump’s antagonism toward the press, and Oliver brought up the White House’s move to block access to the AP for continuing to refer to the Gulf of Mexico as such instead of calling it the Gulf of America as Trump has decreed.

“It can take time for people to adjust to a stupid name change,” Oliver observed.

That teed up Oliver’s next rant: “Sometimes, hypothetically, before we can get used to one dumb name” — here the HBO Go logo appeared on the screen — “some genius comes along and only makes it dumber” (HBO Now). “Then,...

Former US President Joe Biden Diagnosed With An Aggressive Form Of Prostate Cancer And Investigating Treatment Options
Image
Former US President Joe Biden has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer. The disease has spread to his bones, as Biden was diagnosed on Friday after he sought medical treatment for urinary symptoms.

Biden’s Cancer Isn’t Curable, But It Is Treatable

Doctors found a nodule on his prostate. According to the statement from his office, he was diagnosed with a “Gleason score of 9 and grade group 5 prostate cancer with metastasis to the bone.” His cancer is not curable, but it is hopefully treatable; however, with the scores mentioned above, the cancer can grow and spread very quickly.

The American Cancer Society states that a prostate cancer’s grade group is indicative of how likely the tumor is to grow and spread, and how quickly it could occur.

“While this represents a more aggressive form of the disease, the cancer appears to be hormone sensitive, which allows for effective management.

Donald Trump Extends Wishes To Joe Biden For A “Fast And Successful Recovery”
Image
Donald Trump extended his wish that Joe Biden has “a fast and successful recovery” after the announcement that his predecessor has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer.

Trump wrote on Truth Social, “Melania and I are saddened to hear about Joe Biden’s recent medical diagnosis. We extend our warmest and best wishes to Jill and the family, and we wish Joe a fast and successful recovery.”

Trump’s tone was in longtime political tradition of setting aside political differences in the midst of serious health matters. After the assassination attempt on Trump’s life last July, Biden’s campaign paused advertising and events and then then-president, still running for reelection, called his rival.

Biden’s office released a statement earlier today saying, “Last week, President Joe Biden was seen for a new finding of a prostate nodule after experiencing increasing urinary symptoms. On Friday, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer,...

Savannah Chrisley Vows To Fight For Justice For Others
Image
On Saturday, May 17, Savannah Chrisley sat down with Lara Trump on Fox’s My View. During the talk, she mentioned that she intends to continue the fight for justice even if her parents get out of prison. It came after Lara interviewed Alice Johnson, the “Pardon Czar.”

Fighting For Justice

Savannah told Lara that their family wasn’t expecting a prison sentence because “Fulton County” had such “a weak case.” Additionally, it took “nine years” to indict Todd and Julie Chrisley. She also said that their show was just “a scripted comedy.” Savannah might have mentioned that because their clothing purchases on the show were referred to during the trial.

‘The Phoenician Scheme’ Review: Benicio Del Toro Hilariously Dominates Wes Anderson’s Latest All-Star Wes Anderson Movie – Cannes Film Festival
Image
Like Jacques Tati, Woody Allen and Luis Buñuel, there can be no mistaking a movie directed and written by Wes Anderson. An auteur in the truest sense of the word, he is as much a painter with words and visuals that put us unquestionably into part of a brain that sees the world the way he wants to see it. There’s his Oscar-winning masterpiece The Grand Budapest Hotel; animated gems Isle of Dogs and my favorite Wes movie, Fantastic Mr. Fox; and a string of beloved film comedies including The Royal Tannenbaums, The Darjeeling Limited, Moonrise Kingdom and so many more including his 2024 Oscar-winning short The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar. It is good to report that the filmmaker is back in style with his latest, The Phoenician Scheme, after stumbling a bit through the overly narrated and artificial (even for Anderson) Asteroid City, the most recent of his films to debut in Cannes,...

Eddie Vedder Covers “My City of Ruins” Following Trump’s Attack on Springsteen
Image
During Pearl Jam’s concert in Pittsburgh on Friday, frontman Eddie Vedder performed a solo cover of Bruce Springsteen’s “My City of Ruins,” a pointed response to Donald Trump’s Truth Social rant threatening to keep Springsteen out of the country following the conclusion of his own European tour. Watch Vedder’s acoustic rendition of The Rising song below.

Vedder didn’t make any direct reference to Springsteen before covering his 2002 song, but on Springsteen’s current tour, the track has been preceded by a vehement speech that lambasts the Trump administration for corruption and its attack on civil liberties.

“In my home, the America I love, the America I’ve written about, and has been a beacon of hope and liberty for 250 years, is currently in the hands of a corrupt, incompetent, and treasonous administration,” Springsteen proclaimed during The E Street Band’s...

Scott Bessent Compares Trump’s Qatari Jet Gift to the Statue of Liberty
Image
No, Qatar’s royal family gifting a $400 million Boeing 747-8 jumbo jet known as a “flying palace” to the government that will reportedly then go to Donald Trump’s presidential library is not the same as France giving the Statue of Liberty to the American people. But that is what Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent tried to claim on Sunday.

“Even if Qatar isn’t asking for anything in return now for the jet, I mean, that’s a bill that could come due,” Jake Tapper, host of CNN’s State...

Roeg Sutherland Talks Ever-Lengthening Cannes Market & Packaging Process; Theatrical Revival & Talents Taking Control Of IP
Image
CAA’s Media Finance Co-Head Roeg Sutherland took a break from deal-making – bar replying to one call on stage – to give a keynote for the Cannes Marché du Film’s Investors Circle event on Sunday.

The packaging supremo is in Cannes this year with 33 projects in the market and another 13 films in the festival. He suggested that the duration of the Cannes market had doubled since his early days of attendance.

“Cannes unlike most festivals has gotten longer and longer. Usually, a festival starts on a Thursday and by Tuesday, you’re out and it’s done. Cannes used to start on the Thursday and would finish on Tuesday. Now we show up on Sunday, and it goes on for 10 days. So, it’s a pretty exhausting process,” he said.

He said this was in part due to packages becoming more complex, which in turn was a result of the...

‘SNL’ Season Finale: Scarlett Johansson Hosts & Gets an Apology from Michael Che
Image
Saturday Night Live’s landmark 50th season ended on Saturday, May 17, with Scarlett Johansson hosting and Bad Bunny performing. And the hosting gig gave Johansson, who’s married to SNL writer and star Colin Jost, a chance to get a “mea culpa” from Michael Che for a certain Nsfw joke he made earlier in the season. Read more about that and other highlights from Saturday’s show below. SNL cold open riffs on Trump’s “personal enrichment” In Saturday’s cold open, James Austin Johnson’s Donald Trump discussed his controversial trip to the Middle East. “I did this for the American people and, in many ways, myself, my personal enrichment,” he said. “I did that, too. I did very well on this trip. Got a lot of cool stuff. The Qataris gave me a $400 million plane. Can you believe that? And people said that was some sort of bribe.

Bruce Springsteen Again Calls Out ‘Unfit President’ Trump at Second Manchester Concert
Image
Bruce Springsteen was undaunted by President Trump’s threatening social media tirade to “keep his mouth shut” as, during his second concert in Manchester, England, the rocker once again delivered a three-minute speech critical of “an unfit president and a rogue government.”

“Things are happening right now that are altering the very nature of our country’s democracy, and they’re too important to ignore,” Springsteen said Saturday, echoing much of his message from the previous concert.

“In America, my home, they’re persecuting people for their right to free speech and voicing their dissent.

Richard Linklater on ‘Nouvelle Vague,’ Trump Tariffs and the French Government’s Support of Film: “The U.S. Could Use a Little Bit of That”
Image
“If you do it long enough, I always thought you can make one film about making films. This is mine,” said Richard Linklater at the Cannes press conference for his latest film Nouvelle Vague, a love letter to French New Wave.

Nouvelle Vague tells the story of the making of Jean-Luc Godard’s Breathless. Shot on film in the 4:3 aspect ratio and told entirely in French, it stars Guillaume Marbeck as Godard, Zoey Deutch as Godard’s star Jean Seberg, and Aubry Dullin as Jean-Paul Belmondo. Breathless, considered on of seminal film of the Frenc New Wave, follows Michel Poiccard (Jean-Paul Belmondo), a small-time criminal on the run after killing a policeman, and his romantic entanglement with Patricia Franchini (Jean Seberg), an American journalism student in Paris.

“Ten years ago, when we were thinking about this movie, I was thinking they’ll hate that an American director did it,...

‘Nouvelle Vague’ Director Richard Linklater Dumps On Trump Tariff Threat, Gushes Over Godard: ‘He Had Such An Interesting Brain’
Image
A new hangout movie from the man who knows them like the back of his hand, Richard Linklater’s “Nouvelle Vague” chronicles the making of Jean-Luc Godard’s “Breathless” and pays tribute to the French New Wave in a way that recalls his previous films like “Slacker” and the “Before” series. Premiering Saturday in Cannes, it marked the culmination of a years-long journey that the Austin filmmaker said he always dreamed would end with them here.

“It’s exhilarating for this film, certainly, to be here,” Linklater said alongside stars Guillaume Marbeck and Zoey Deutch at a press conference on Sunday. “All roads lead to Cannes if you’re lucky. We got lucky.”

As it was a French production, Linklater was asked about the recent social media posts by President Donald Trump where he said there would be tariffs on films shooting on “foreign lands” without offering any specifics. The director,...

Richard Linklater says Trump tariffs are “not going to happen”
Image
Filmmaker Richard Linklater believes Trump’sproposed tariffs on films made outside the US are“not gonna happen”.

The director was speaking at a Cannes Film Festival press conference for his French-language feature Nouvelle Vague, about the making of Jean-Luc Godard’sBreathless.

“That man changes his mind 50 times,” Linklater joked about President Trump. “Film is the number one export industry of the US.”

US actor Zoey Deutch, who plays Jean Seberg, added: “It would be nice to make more movies in Los Angeles and Hollywood, that has the biggest history of studios and the cultures and the crews. It would be so beautiful.

‘Nouvelle Vague’ Director Richard Linklater On Trump Film Tariffs: “That’s Not Gonna Happen” – Cannes
Image
Nouvelle Vague director and Austin native Richard Linklater is calling B.S. on President Donald Trump’s suggestion for film tariffs.

“That’s not gonna happen. That guy changes his mind 50 times. Film is our No. 1 U.S. export,” said the filmmaker who shot Nouvelle Vague in France and his previous movie Blue Moon in Ireland — pics potentially could be “tariff”-able under the Trump plan that has proposes a 120% tariff on movies receiving foreign film credits. The debate is that, given the fact that film is digital, it’s not necessarily taxable under the World Free Trade Agreement. Motion pictures aren’t car parts.

Cannes Film Festival: 7 Most Controversial Celebrity Moments That Still Have Our Jaws on the Floor
Image
Ah! The Cannes Film Festival. Despite being one of the biggest platforms in the world to showcase some of the best movies the world has ever seen, the festival has had a plethora of controversies involving celebrities.

From forcing women to dress according to some rules and regulations to a director joking that he is a nazi, the Cannes Film Festival has brushed a lot with controversies and critics. Well, here are the seven most controversial celebrity moments that just went too far! Although not every controversy was necessarily a bad thing!

1. The Cannes Film Festival became a political platform

This is one of the few controversies that hasn’t been a bad thing in recent times. French star Gérard Depardieu, who had faced allegations of se*ual assault, was finally handed an 18-month suspension sentence for groping two stars while filming the 2021 film The Green Shutters.

Cannes at the Midpoint: Weak Dealmaking, Strong Filmmaking
Image
Politics continues to trump business at this year’s Cannes film festival, with little in the way of deals out of the Marché, but lots of activist agitation on the red carpet and beyond. Cannes’ first weekend, traditionally the period when the bidding wars begin and the first big buys are announced, has been

almost frighteningly quiet.

The cautious, wait-and-see approach from buyers — already in evidence in Sundance and Berlin — continues amid growing uncertainty over financing and distribution models and, let’s face it, over the future of the movie business itself.

Donald Trump’s plan to impose tariffs on “foreign-made” films, launched just ahead of Cannes, went off like a bomb under the already shaky foundations of the indie industry. Just how much damage has been done will only be possible to assess post-market when the dust has settled.

“The idea of tariffs is spooking people, especially financiers,” said one veteran indie producer.

“Mission Impossible God Save The World!” – A Subhash K Jha Review
Image
This time, it takes a while for Tom Cruise and the audience to get a hang of it. By the time Ethan Hunt is hanging from the plane for his (and civilization’s) dear life, the scriptwriters (Christopher McQuarrie and Erik Jendresen) have finally decided to stop faffing around.

A large part of the throbbing procedure here is faffing—suave, sleek, sexy faffing, but faffing nonetheless. In how many ways and how many times will Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt save the world before he needs to save himself?

Cruise, still insanely handsome, has begun to look rough around the edges. His performance is also redolent of fatigue, much like the Indian superstar Salman Khan, except for the fact—and this is the clincher—Cruise still does the heart-in-the-mouth stunts himself.

The airborne peccadillo at the cliffhanging climax is incontrovertibly quixotic, much in the way that boys’ battery-operated toys are.

Kevin Spacey to Make Surprise Appearance in Cannes to Accept a Lifetime Achievement Award at Better World Fund Gala (Exclusive)
Image
Kevin Spacey is set to return to the Cannes Film Festival for the first time in almost a decade to collect a lifetime achievement honor.

The two-time Oscar winner was last in Cannes in 2016, when he served as emcee for the amfAR gala and ripped into Donald Trump, then not even the Republican’s confirmed presidential nominee. Much has happened since, with Trump having been elected twice and Spacey’s career nosediving following several allegations of sexual misconduct.

But having been found not liable in a civil lawsuit in New York in 2022 and acquitted in a criminal case in London the following year, the actor is now heading back to Cannes, where he’s due to arrive on Sunday. On Tuesday he’ll receive a special lifetime achievement award at the Better World Fund’s gala, adding to a similar honor he received in Italy last year.

Spacey’s visit to Cannes,...

Scarlett Johansson Sings “Piano Man” Parody With Heartfelt ‘SNL’ Twist to Close Out Season 50
Image
Scarlett Johansson and the cast of Saturday Night Live paid tribute to the show’s 50th season with a musical opening monologue that riffed on Billy Joel’s classic hit “Piano Man.”

Back for her seventh time hosting, the Jurassic World Rebirth star kicked off the night by proclaiming how “excited” she was “to be hosting the finale of season 50.”

“I’m so proud to be a part of it.” she said. “You know, I first hosted the show when I was 21 years old, so it’s crazy to be back here, what, like 3 years later. Man, time really flies.” After that, she launched into song.

“It’s 11:30 on a Saturday, finale of season 50,” she sang. “It’s chaotic and crazy, the whole week is hazy, but there’s no place I’d rather be.”

Johansson started the monologue solo before she was slowly joined by more of the show’s cast members,...

‘Saturday Night Live’ Opens With “Fake” Donald Trump Defending Qatar’s “Gift” Of A Jumbo Jet — An Hour After The Real Potus Did The Same
Image
Saturday Night Live opened its Season 50 finale with the show’s Donald Trump (James Austin Johnson) taking his seat in the audience and saying farewell until the fall.

“After tonight, you won’t be seeing me here for a while,” said Johnson’s Trump. “Well, not the fake, fun version of me that makes you smile. The real one will still be omnipresent. You can’t escape me, right? I’m everywhere, even in your dreams, like the late, great Freddy Krueger.”

Johnson was right: the real president has been posting on Truth Social throughout the evening, including an attack on ABC News for its report that he is planning to accept a $400 million plane from Qatar, to be used as Air Force One and later for his presidential library.

That gift of a 747 was the subject of some of the quips earlier in the sketch, as Trump, speaking to...
