[Editor’s note: The following article contains spoilers for “True Detective: Night Country,” including its finale.]
It’s Raymond Clark (Owen McDonnell), the heartbroken killer of “True Detective: Night Country,” who gets the famous line from the series (and its beloved first season): “Time is a flat circle.”
He’s talking about a lot of things — most explicitly, the spirit of Annie K. (Nivi Pederson) that he believes lives in the ice caves around them — but he’s also talking about “True Detective” and the very nature of episodic storytelling itself. Stories are told and retold and repackaged and remixed, genres interwoven, resolutions reached.
And “True Detective: Night Country” did a damn good job with all of that.
Following now-deleted comments from series creator Nic Pizzolatto on social media, audiences learned early on that not only did Pizzolatto not actually have a hand in the creation of the fourth season of the HBO series, but he didn’t...

“The Bear” has just won the Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy.
In addition to Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy, “The Bear” was nominated for four acting awards: Abby Elliot and Ebon Moss-Bachrach in the Supporting Actor categories, and Jeremy Allen White and Ayo Edibiri as Lead Actors, with White and Edibiri picking up wins earlier in the evening.
Season 2 of “The Bear” premiered in June 2023 on FX, earning an A- rating from IndieWire. Ben Travers wrote that the season “…fine-tunes the storytelling, amplifies what’s working, and digs deeper: both into who these people are and what lures them to this life… as riveting as before with added dashes of confidence, consequence, and consideration.” FX reported that the show’s Season 2 debut was the most-watched premiere in the network’s history, showing that audiences agree with critics on the stronger second outing.

There’s plenty to dread about 2024, but thankfully, TV isn’t one of them. The strikes are over! That means many great projects can return to work.
While there are tons of intriguing TV shows yet to be announced, there’s plenty to get excited about coming next year that we already know about. From Elisabeth Moss’ twisty TV return with “The Veil” to Kate Winslet’s HBO homecoming with “The Regime,” 2024’s headliners have something for everyone. We can’t wait to check out buzzy book adaptations like “Apples Never Fall” starring Annette Bening, or “Palm Royale” starring Kristin Wiig. And of course, the most exciting big swings could point to a huge TV breakout: We’ve got high hopes for FX’s “Shōgun,” Prime Video’s “Fallout,” and many others.
A note: We also can’t wait for some returning favorites like Season 2 of “House of the Dragon” and another season of “Hacks,...

“Loki,” which returned for a second season on Thursday, might (low-key) be the top Disney+ original series. Though “Star Wars” spinoff “The Mandalorian” is generally considered to be the star of the original Disney+ shows, a long look at Nielsen data suggests Tom Hiddleston’s “Avengers” spinoff may be the brightest celestial body in the galaxy.
Since Nielsen launched its weekly Streaming Top 10 List in 2020, of all Disney+ original series, 19 have charted at least once, totaling 120 overall appearances for the streamer. Of those 120 appearances, 12 reached 1 billion minutes viewed: nine for “The Mandalorian,” two for “Loki,” and one week for “Obi-Wan Kenobi.”
“Loki” first hit that magic number with the release of its fifth episode. It did again with the first season’s sixth (and final) episode. Strong backloaded viewership makes sense in the on-demand era: More minutes available to binge (see: Netflix and “Suits”) and the payoffs that come with...

Time was that in a romantic comedy, the leads always ended up together.
That’s changed over time as audience and narrative priorities shift, and as television dove deeper into the rom-com game along with film, finding ways to unite, separate, and permute every pairing while filling out hours and hours of story. A lot of sitcoms spin that into classic TV romance; Ross and Rachel, Cory and Topanga, Jess and Nick. In recent years, the trend has skewed toward getting a couple together and keeping them together; Jake and Amy, David and Patrick, Janine and Gregory.
And then there is the Secret Third Thing, the rare and difficult move where a show pairs its lead character or characters off with someone who wasn’t the original plan. Sometimes there are outside factors (“Cheers” comes to mind), while other times it’s simply a more desirable story development.

They say not to judge a book by its cover, but how about by its screen adaptation? A film version used to be the logical and desirable next step for any successful literary property, but in the past decade-and-change those have often been TV shows instead. The book-to-tv pipeline is dense and mighty, and the promised binge of a book club favorite is as highly-anticipated as any primetime drama. What changes did the author (often part of the production team) allow or implement? What works better (or worse) on screen? Did this need to be a TV show, or could it have been left alone in its original form?

“Sex Education” was never about the sex.
Ever since its 2018 debut, Netflix’s raunchy teen comedy was first, foremost, and unflinchingly about friendship, love, and self-discovery. Otis’ journey (Asa Butterfield) in Season 1 is not sexual exploration with partners, but of unblocking his own difficulty with masturbation and finding his calling as the school’s sex therapist. Everything that came after (pun intended) — for all the characters, including the adults — followed suit.
The show spotlighted queer love from the start, with the out and proud Eric (Ncuti Gatwa), Otis’ best friend. Trials faced by Eric and the show’s growing cast of queer characters started with the familiar — daily homophobia, the anxiety of coming out — and went on to address more nuanced issues, like how different queer people understand each other, gender dysphoria, religion. The show’s fourth and final season sees a handful of previous regulars now attending the spectacularly queer Cavendish College,...

DC Studios needs a hero; many heroes in fact. And James Gunn is in the process of picking them. Since taking up the mantle of DC Studios co-ceo with Peter Safran in October of last year, “The Suicide Squad” writer/director has been steadily assembling a new cast of actors to replace the Justice League once led by Henry Cavill’s Superman. David Corenswet earned the honor of suiting up as Clark Kent in “Superman: Legacy” (not yet filming), opposite Rachel Brosnahan who is taking up the part of Lois Lane — last played by Amy Adams on film and Elizabeth Tulloch on TV.
The news that Cavill would not return to the DC Extended Universe upset plenty of fans, particularly as it came on the heels of his departure from Netflix’s “The Witcher.” The future of Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman remains unclear (more on that below), but last...

Time was that the Emmy’s limited series category was itself limited.
A decade ago, “Outstanding Limited Series” was actually “Outstanding Limited Series or Television Movie,” a category that had to be split in two because of the drastic increase in eligible submissions. The 2022-2023 television season saw 51 shows submit for Outstanding Limited Or Anthology Series, with only five garnering nominations before one winner is selected by Television Academy voters.
Lee Sung Jin’s “Beef” leads the race, tied with Ryan Murphy’s “Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” — two Netflix juggernauts with 13 nominations apiece. For “Beef” (which is also produced by A24) those are spread across 11 categories, with double nominations in Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie and Outstanding Directing for a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie. Other nominations include costuming, editing, sound mixing, writing, acting, and of course Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series.

“I’m a Virgo” certainly has a unique premise. The Amazon Prime Video series, which premiered on June 23, tells the story of a 19-year-old named Cootie (Emmy winner Jharrel Jerome) who’s 13 feet tall and hidden away from the world until he sets out and meets a superhero named The Hero (Walton Goggins). That summary is less surprising when you realize the series was created by Boots Riley, the filmmaker behind the outlandish satire “Sorry to Bother You.” But what do critics think of his foray into television?
If TV journalists are any indication, “I’m a Virgo” is an early Emmy contender for 2024. As of this writing it has a MetaCritic score of 86 based on 17 reviews that have been counted thus far — all of them positive. It also has a Rotten Tomatoes freshness rating of 97% based on 33 reviews, only one of which is listed as rotten. The Rt critics’ consensus says,...

These days, the Marvel Cinematic Universe looks more like the Marvel TV Universe.
Technically, the MCU does include Marvel Studios’ serialized streaming projects, along with the major motion pictures that first rolled out with 2008’s “Iron Man” and continued through with May’s “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,” but only one of those arms appears strong enough of late to carry the narrative gauntlet (so to speak) — and it’s not the one historically tasked with doing so.
Over the past two-and-a-half years, Marvel’s television content has eclipsed its feature films in quality, star power, and creative integrity. The TV arm of the MCU launched in January 2021 with “WandaVision”, which remains the studio’s most remarkable and mesmerizing series to date.
The rest may not reach that initial bar, but each title takes a stab at revamping, retooling, and rethinking the way audiences consume superhero stories, often with emerging talent at the helm.

The media was not quick to embrace Black creatives nor has Juneteenth long been something on its radar. But as different voices enter the culturally and politically shifting landscape, the newly recognized federal holiday — which honors the emancipation of the last enslaved people here in the United States on June 19 — could, or at the very least should, pop up more on screens large and small.
Channing Godfrey Peoples made her directorial debut against the backdrop of Black Lives Matter protests in the summer of 2020 with “Miss Juneteenth“: a feature film starring Nicole Beharie and Alexis Chikaeze as a mother-daughter pair navigating their opposing dreams for the young girl’s future. Before that, “Juneteenth” was the title of Season 1, Episode 9 in Donald Glover’s beloved “Atlanta”: a boundary-breaking FX dramedy about Blackness and celebrity with a surrealist twist.

“What We Do in the Shadows” is in the hunt for more Emmy nominations this year after racking up a healthy collective 17 bids for its past three seasons.
This FX comedy series from Jemaine Clement, who adapted his and Taika Waititi‘s 2014 film of the same name, follows four vampire roommates living in modern-day New York while being recorded by a documentary crew. Matt Berry (Laszlo), Natasia Demetriou (Nadja), Kayvan Novak (Nandor), and Mark Proksch (Colin Robinson) are the vampires in question, assisted by Nandor’s familiar Guillermo (Harvey Guillén).
“What We Do in the Shadows” features dark humor, silly, slapstick comedy, plenty of satire, and a bucket load of puns — all shepherded by the central trio of lovable characters. The series has proven to be extremely popular so far and has gone from strength to strength in each of its seasons. Season three achieved a perfect score of 100% on...

Meryl Streep is taking on her toughest role yet: playing an actress.
In a meta role, the Oscar winner makes her Hulu debut with “Only Murders in the Building” Season 3, joining core cast members Martin Short, Steve Martin, and Selena Gomez as part of the latest mystery involving the Arconia residents. As Season 2 left off with Oliver (Short) directing his return to Broadway, Streep portrays an actress in the show along with Paul Rudd, whose death during opening night was part of the Season 2 cliffhanger finale.
“Who are we without a homicide?” Mabel (Gomez) says in the teaser for the new season.
The “Only Murders in the Building” cast revealed Streep was joining in January 2023, with Gomez sharing a TikTok video of Streep on set. “What are we shooting? Season 3! The gang is back. Could this honestly get any better? Oh wait!” Gomez said before panning to Rudd sitting next to co-star Martin during production.

Turns out what’s live on Netflix doesn’t always last. Less than a week after the Chris Rock live stand-up comedy special “Selective Outrage” premiered on the streamer — its first live broadcast of any kind — a flub from the comedian has now been removed from the special.
In the special, Rock discussed his longstanding feud with actors and married couple Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith. One incident he touched on was the 2016 Oscars ceremony, which Pinkett Smith boycotted (along with others) due to a lack of diversity among the nominees. Rock hosted the ceremony, and joked about Pinkett Smith’s absence during his monologue, saying, “Jada said she’s not coming, protest. I was like, ‘Isn’t she on a TV show?’ Jada’s going to boycott the Oscars? Jada boycotting the Oscars is like me boycotting Rihanna’s panties. I wasn’t invited!”

No matter how many they’ve been through, there’s no feeling for a television or film creator like a premiere. Putting months if not years of hard work in front of an audience is the ultimate reward — and litmus test — for how that work will be received and remembered, as well as the unquantifiable validation of sharing all that blood, sweat, tears, and imagination.
March 10 marks the start of South by Southwest 2023, with another packed week of TV and film premieres that already have major momentum leading into the conference. Donald Glover’s latest incisively weird series “Swarm” will make its debut, A24 will present “Problemista,” Liza Mandelup toys with documentary format in “Caterpillar,” and the leads of “Everything Everywhere All at Once” reunite for Kelvin Yu’s “American Born Chinese” — to name but a few from a sorely enticing and packed schedule.

Netflix entered into the realm of live television over the weekend with “Selective Outrage,” a Chris Rock comedy special that streamed live on the service Saturday night. And after much hype — as well as controversy over some of Rock’s material — the special appears to have found the audience that the streamer was hoping for.
On Netflix’s latest weekly chart of the top 10 most-watched shows in the United States, “Selective Outrage” ranks No. 7; Netflix did not offer any specific data on the special’s viewership numbers. Although No. 7 for a highly-hyped event might sound a bit of a letdown, the chart tracks viewing over the week of February 27 to March 5. Rock’s special debuted via livestream on 7 p.m. Pt/10 p.m. Et on March 4, meaning it managed to crack the list with a little over a day of viewing. In addition, Netflix measures viewership for their lists via hours watched,...

Spring is a time for new beginnings, in TV as much as anywhere else. Networks and streamers know the power of a spring hit that will keep audiences tuning in, bingeing, or talking for weeks and months to come — and 2023 isn’t pulling its punches. Television juggernauts “Succession” and “Yellowjackets” return the same weekend, competing not only with each other but with a slate of new shows that premiere this season while those titans release new episodes weekly.
Among the bountiful harvest: Donald Glover’s latest work since “Atlanta,” about the dark side of all-consuming fandom; a musical romcom about the voices in people’s heads; a Charles Dickens adaptation with none other than Olivia Colman; an epic feud between strangers; a nun fighting the algorithm, and then some. 2023’s spring TV slate is getting weird and staying there, inviting viewers to do the same.

The first reviews are in forDaisy Jones & the Six – and it seems like Prime Video’s long-awaited TV series might not have hit all the right notes.
Based on Taylor Jenkins Reid’s popular novel, the show follows a fictional rock band from the Seventies on their rise to fame. Riley Keough plays singer Daisy, while Sam Claflin is the band’s founder Billy Dunne.
While fans of Jenkins’ book have begged for an adaptation since it was released, early reviews for the series – which arrives on Prime Video on Friday (3 March) – have been less than glowing.
Vulture’s Roxana Hadadi compared Daisy Jones & the Six to “buying a Fleetwood Mac T-shirt from Urban Outfitters”, writing: “There’s an unignorable smallness throughout, a sense that, as with that Fleetwood Mac T-shirt, we’re settling for a copy of a copy.”

Harrison Ford was one of the last major movie stars to avoid doing television, but 2023 has seen him jump onto the small screen in a major way. In addition to starring alongside Helen Mirren in the “Yellowstone” prequel “1923,” he’s also taken on his first sitcom role in “Shrinking.” The therapy comedy gives Ford plenty of opportunities to show off his brand of curmudgeonly humor, but he also plays against type in several heartfelt moments — including a scene where he sings the Sugar Ray song “Every Morning” in the car alongside his co-star Jessica Williams.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Williams opened up about the surreal experience of singing carpool karaoke with Ford — and revealed the actor’s role in planning the scene.
“Oh, it was really fun — Sugar Ray with Harrison in the car,” Williams said. “They asked me for a list of songs and a lot of the...

Are there any sweeter words in the age of too much TV than “limited series?” It’s a category that guarantees minimal time commitment with maximum return — be it weekly watercooler gossip or a delicious binge. The limited series is the perfect hybrid between a movie and a longer-running TV series, with intricate stories, complex characters, and just the right amount of moving parts. The fact that a series will not return makes the narrative precious and the ending paramount, even if that means leaving things deliberately open-ended. This one-off nature makes them perfect for literary adaptations, epic events, and period pieces.
What doesn’t qualify? Those that started as limited series but then blew up enough to get a second season. We’ve also limited (ha!) ourselves to scripted for now, since Ken Burns will probably deserve his own ranking down the line, once he slows down and we...

[Editor’s Note: The following review contains spoilers for “The Last of Us” Season 1, Episode 6, “Kin.”]
Time often gets lost in the apocalyptic soup. Either you lose track of the cultural and rhythmic markers of days and weeks and months or you start to adopt new ways to track them that match up with a changing world. Part of the appeal of “The Last of Us” is that it can have the infinite scroll of a neverending journey and the respites along the way that give the story shape. The wide mountains of Wyoming can stretch out beyond the horizon, but at an oasis, it’s Christmastime.
As this opening season reaches the two-thirds mark, “Kin” offers a glimpse of a potential future, one without state police forces or gunfights over scarce resources. So far, Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) have had to make a choice between safety or human interaction. For a precious portion of this...

“Avenue 5″ has crash-landed. The Armando Iannucci science fiction comedy series has been canceled at HBO after two seasons, IndieWire has confirmed.
The news comes almost three months after the show wrapped its second season in November. The series, led by Hugh Laurie, originally premiered in January 2020.

“Avenue 5” starred Laurie and Josh Gad as the captain and owner of the titular interplanetary cruise ship. Set in 2060, the show also featured Zach Woods, Rebecca Front, Suzy Nakamura, Lenora Crichlow, Nikki Amuka-Bird, and Ethan Phillips as the various employees and passengers onboard Avenue 5. Amazon is going all-in on “The Terminal List.” The action-thriller series has been renewed for a second season at Prime Video. And the streamer isn’t stopping there: Amazon has also ordered a prequel series starring Taylor Kitsch, who plays Ben Edwards (on both).
“The Terminal List,” based on Jack Carr’s thriller novels, premiered in its entirety on July 1; Season 2 will adapt 2019’s “True Believer.”
“The phenomenal summer debut of ‘The Terminal List’ is a testament to the creativity of Jack Carr, David Digilio and Chris Pratt along with the cast and teams who delivered such an original and compelling series,” Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon and MGM Studios, said in a statement on Friday. “With the second season of The ‘Terminal List’ and Prime Video’s new prequel series starring the amazing Taylor Kitsch, we are expanding on the storytelling and characters beloved by so many all over the world.

The cast of “Step Right Up” should plan to step right up to some new projects. On Monday, Hulu canceled “Reboot,” the meta-satirical series about a sitcom reboot, after just one season.
Sources tell IndieWire that “Reboot” creator Steven Levitan, best known for co-creating “Modern Family” with Christopher Lloyd, is currently shopping the show to other outlets with hopes of finding it a new home.
“Reboot” centered around “Step Right Up”: an early 2000s family sitcom canonically revived at Hulu in 2022. The series sent up and examined the modern TV industry, lampooning studios’ cyclical obsession with reboots and the unsteady streaming business model; along with your old-fashioned backstage drama.
Paul Reiser and Rachel Bloom lead the cast of the series as the original creator of “Step Right Up” Gordon and his estranged daughter Hannah, who are forced to work together as co-showrunners on the reboot. Keegan-Michael Key, Johnny Knoxville,...

“Minx” is back in print. The canceled HBO Max series has been acquired by Starz, which will air its already completed Season 2 and host the first season on its streaming platform, the premium cable channel announced January 12.
“I’m absolutely thrilled to be joining the Starz family, and for the opportunity to introduce ‘Minx’ to a brand new audience. We’ve found the perfect home,” series creator and showrunner Ellen Rapoport said in a statement. “Our writers, cast and crew have created something truly special in Season 2, and I can’t wait for everyone to see it.”
In December, HBO Max abruptly canceled “Minx,” reversing its initial Season 2 pickup in May and taking Season 1 off the streamer. Sources from Lionsgate, which produces the series and owns Starz, told IndieWire that production on Season 2 was nearly completed before the decision was made but that they hoped to shop the series to other outlets.

Reports of the death of “Wednesday” at Netflix have been greatly exaggerated. Just days after the spread of rumors that the “Addams Family” teen series might leave the streamer for its rival, Amazon Prime Video, Netflix finally gave a second season renewal to the series January 6, confirming that it would air “Only on Netflix.”

When the clock strikes midnight on New Year’s Eve, there’s only one thing we’re thinking about: All the amazing TV that lies ahead for 2023.
Nowadays, TV is practically the only thing we can rely on; that new and returning shows will delight and unite audiences in otherwise confusing times. Whether your life is consumed by some newbie called “Severance” or invigorated by the impending return of U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens, TV will be unflinchingly at your side, as it has in years passed and will be in years to come. IndieWire’s TV team picked the series we’re most excited about — mostly new, but with a few oldies we couldn’t resist including — and already the year seems a bit brighter.
Here are IndieWire’s 11 most anticipated TV shows of 2023.

When Netflix announced it was making a sitcom about Blockbuster employees, the irony was lost on absolutely no one.
The Vanessa Ramos-created workplace sitcom was about the last Blockbuster video store in America, and Netflix was the primary reason that most of those stores shuttered. Netflix’s original business model of sending DVDs through the mail was a major obstacle for the iconic video store chain, but its eventual pivot to streaming proved to be an insurmountable death blow to Blockbuster.
To many, the sitcom was a declaration of victory, one corporation asserting its dominance by dancing on the grave of a competitor. But when the show began streaming in November, it never broke through as the nostalgia-invoking cultural phenomenon that its champions expected it to be. So Netflix decided to end “Blockbuster” for the second time.
Sources have confirmed to IndieWire that Netflix opted not to renew “Blockbuster” for a second season.

Jessica Chastain wasn’t going to play anyone’s pawn onscreen.
The Oscar winner transformed into “Stand By Your Man” crooner Tammy Wynette for Showtime series “George & Tammy” opposite Michael Shannon as George Jones. Chastain, who also produces the series through her Freckle Films banner, revealed that she objected to dialogue in the first episode of the series.
During the scene in question, Shannon as George tells Tammy’s soon-to-be-ex-husband Don (Pat Healy) that he is going to sleep with Tammy and hire the husband an escort.
“I read it and I was deeply disturbed,” Chastain told Marie Claire. “[Tammy] was just kind of sitting there. People were creating stuff so she could be caught rather than her making decisions.”
The prostitute subplot was removed, and co-star Shannon agreed that the dialogue needed to be changed.

“Minx” has gone out of print after all. HBO Max canceled its period comedy series after it was picked up for a second season last May.
Sources from Lionsgate, the production company behind the series, confirmed the cancellation to IndieWire. According to the sources, production on Season 2 recently wrapped before HBO Max opted to cancel the series, but Lionsgate TV hopes to shop the series to other outlets.
“We have enjoyed a good partnership with HBO Max and are working closely to find a new opportunity for ‘Minx,’ so current, and new viewers, can continue this journey with us,” Lionsgate said in a statement.
In addition to canceling the second season, HBO Max will also remove the first season, which premiered in March, from the platform. The nixing of “Minx” is the latest cancelation of previously greenlit projects at the streamer, including the DC movie “Batgirl” and several animated series.

With a buzzy part in “The White Lotus” Season 2 and major upcoming roles in Francis Ford Coppola’s “Megalopolis” and Marvel’s “Agatha: Coven of Chaos,” Aubrey Plaza has a lot on her mind these days. So you’ll have to forgive her if she hasn’t found time to worry about the backlash to her Fxx comedy “Little Demon.”
The animated series, which sees Plaza voicing a woman who tries to shield her daughter from the knowledge that her father is actually Satan (voiced by Danny DeVito), has become a hot topic in certain fringe Christian communities. The outrage surrounding the series is primarily the result of a series of viral Facebook posts accusing the show of having Satanic messages and promoting paganism and the Antichrist.
In a new interview with Deadline, Plaza was asked about the controversy surrounding the show. She’s aware of the backlash, but isn’t particularly bothered by it.

“Los Espookys,” HBO’s Spanish-language comedy series, has been canceled after two seasons at the network, IndieWire has confirmed.
Created by Julio Torres, Ana Fabrega, and Fred Armisen, “Los Espookys” focused on a group of aimless friends who turn their love of the horror genre into a business where they trick people into thinking the supernatural is real. All three co-creators starred in the series along with Bernardo Velasco and Cassandra Ciangherotti as the Espookys. The show initially premiered in 2019, then went on a pandemic-induced, three-year hiatus before premiering its second season this past September.
“We are thrilled we could deliver the unique and hilarious second season of ‘Los Espookys’ to viewers finally, more than three years after the series premiere, due to pandemic delays,” HBO said in a statement. “We thank Julio, Ana and Fred for this imaginative and delightfully bizarre world they created. We are not currently planning on a third season,...

Choosing the best TV episodes is very different from choosing the best TV.
The best episodes might be outstanding hours of shows that fluctuate in quality, or a pivotal character moment or story beat that contextualizes everything else. Sometimes the best episode is part of an almost embarrassing bounty — just one of many consistently brilliant installments in a TV show that blew away both audiences and critics.
IndieWire’s look at the best TV episodes of 2022 is all those things, populated by our usual suspects of top 2022 TV as well as hours we couldn’t forget and shows we gladly binged in a weekend. There is drama, there is comedy, there is literal “Euphoria.” This list has it all. What it doesn’t have, however, is more than one episode from the same show, in an effort to spread the wealth.

She’s creepy and she’s kooky, mysterious and spooky, and all together uber-popular. “Wednesday,” the Netflix teen-comedy series about everybody’s favorite “Addams Family” member, has broken the streaming service’s record for the most hours viewed in a week for an English-language series.
According to numbers shared by Netflix, more than 50 million households watched 341.23 million hours of “Wednesday” during its first week of availability, from its debut on (appropriately) Wednesday, November 23, through Sunday, November 27. This dethrones “Stranger Things” Season 4, which previously held the record with the 335.01 million hours it logged from May 30 to June 5. Impressively, the “Stranger Things” number comes from a full seven-day week of tracking, while the “Wednesday” numbers include just five days of viewing. The long Thanksgiving weekend certainly helped.

They just don’t make action movie stars like they used to. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone dominated the box office in the 1980s with their hyper-masculine, star-driven brand of action movies: a feat some studios, but no actor has fully replicated since. You’d think the experience would have bonded the titans of industry, but Stallone says that shared experience is precisely why they weren’t always friends.
In a new interview with Forbes to promote his upcoming Paramount+ series “Tulsa King,” Stallone waxed nostalgic about his rivalry with Schwarzenegger and their eventual ability to mend fences by teaming up for “The Expendables” and “Escape Plan.”
“We really disliked each other immensely because we were… this may sound a little vain, but I think we were pioneering a kind of genre at that time and it hasn’t been seen since really,” Stallone said. “So the competition, because it’s his nature,...

“Tuca and Bertie,” the acclaimed adult animated comedy starring Tiffany Haddish and Ali Wong, has been canceled by Adult Swim after two seasons on the channel.
Creator Lisa Hanawalt announced the news on Wednesday via a Twitter post, stating that while she hopes to continue the series someday, it won’t be moving forward on Adult Swim.
This marks the first Adult Swim series cancellation since parent company Warner Bros. Discovery more closely merged its two animation studios, Cartoon Network Studios and Warner Bros. Animation. “Tuca and Bertie,” which is a Tornante Company production, was not a casualty of the restructuring, a source close to the matter confirmed to IndieWire.
“I still have a beautiful and weird ending to ‘T&b’ in mind, hopefully someday we’ll get the chance to finish this story,” Hanawalt said in her post. “In the meantime, I’m not done creating. I’ve witnessed...
