‘Fear Street: Prom Queen’ Trailer Promises Carnage at a Killer 1980s Dance
Image
Netflix is heading back to Shadyside this month with Fear Street: Prom Queen, the latest entry in the horror franchise adapted from R.L. Stine’s teen slasher series. The new instalment arrives on 23 May, accompanied by a trailer that blends neon-drenched nostalgia with a growing body count, as prom night turns deadly once again.

Set in 1988, Prom Queen unfolds at Shadyside High, where the annual prom is less about corsages and more about survival. A clique of status-obsessed popular girls is preparing for the big night when an unexpected rival enters the race for the crown. But as the competition heats up, candidates begin to vanish, and it becomes clear that someone is willing to kill for the crown.

India Fowler leads the cast as the outsider nominee caught in the middle of the chaos. She’s joined by Suzanna Son, Fina Strazza, Ariana Greenblatt, Ella Rubin, and David Iacono,...

Image
Trouble brews once again in Shadyside in the trailer for “Fear Street: Prom Queen,” Netflix’s newest addition to the “Fear Street” franchise.

The film is adapted from author R.L. Stine’s 1992 novel “The Prom Queen.” Netflix previously released a trilogy of “Fear Street” films, directed by Leigh Janiak, in 2021: “Fear Street Part One: 1994,” “Fear Street Part Two: 1978” and “Fear Street Part Three: 1666.”

In “Fear Street: Prom Queen,” an ’80s dance turns bloody. According to the official logline, “prom season at Shadyside High is underway and the school’s wolfpack of It Girls is busy with its usual sweet and vicious campaigns for the crown. But when a gutsy outsider puts herself in the running, and the other girls start mysteriously disappearing, the class of ’88 is suddenly in for one hell of a prom night.”

Matt Palmer (“Calibre”) directed “Fear Street: Prom Queen,” which he co-wrote with Donald Mcleary.

Another Martin Scorsese and Daniel Day-Lewis Movie Is Getting Turned Into a TV Series
Image
Netflix is bringing another classic novel adaptation to the screen. Edith Wharton's The Age of Innocence, which was previously filmed by Martin Scorsese in 1993, is being adapted into a miniseries at the streamer. The news comes on the heels, coincidentally, of Miramax announcing plans to produce a series adaptation of Gangs of New York, another Scorsese film that, like The Age of Innocence, also starred Daniel Day-Lewis.

Netflix has tapped British screenwriter Emma Frost, a veteran of Shameless, The Spanish Princess, and The Man in the High Castle, to showrun the series. Frost is not to be confused with the Marvel Comics character of the same name, although she did write for The White Queen. It will attempt to stay true to the novel's original themes, while also bringing the novel to a new, younger audience. The series is the latest in Netflix's attempts to mine the literary canon for content.

‘Age of Innocence,’ ‘Unaccustomed Earth’ Series Adaptations Set at Netflix
Image
Netflix is doubling down on adaptations of classic novels, with the streamer officially greenlighting series version of “The Age of Innocence” and “Unaccustomed Earth.”

“The Age of Innocence” was written by Edith Wharton and was originally published in 1920. The limited series at Netflix is described as a “passionate and heart-rending will-they/won’t-they love triangle exploring themes of freedom, duty, identity and love in all its forms. This fresh take is true to Wharton’s novel but will speak to a new generation as we traverse the ballrooms and bedrooms of these young people, asking the question what is love — and what is lust? And should we ultimately be driven by our heads or by our hearts?”

Emma Frost — known for her work on shows like “The Spanish Princess,” “The White Princess,” and “The White Queen” — will write all episodes and serve as executive producer and showrunner. Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping,...

‘The Age Of Innocence’ Limited Series Adaptation Greenlighted By Netflix
Image
Netflix has ordered The Age Of Innocence, a limited series based on Edith Wharton’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel. Emma Frost has penned the adaptation and will serve as executive producer and showrunner on the Chernin Entertainment production.

The series was quietly greenlighted earlier this year and has been prepping for a fall start of production in Europe for a couple of months now. Netflix would not confirm the pickup to Deadline, instead opting to announce it on World Book Day.

A fresh take on Edith Wharton’s classic novel of forbidden love in 19th century New York, The Age Of Innocence is a will-they/won’t-they love triangle exploring themes of freedom, duty, identity and love in all its forms.

The project is clearly geared toward the wide global fanbase of Netflix’s hit period romance drama Bridgerton, also a book adaptation.

‘Age of Innocence,’ ‘Unaccustomed Earth’ Series Greenlit at Netflix
Image
Netflix is adding two adaptations of prestigious literary works to its series roster.

The streamer has ordered a limited series based on Edith Wharton’s classic novel The Age of Innocence and a drama based on Jhumpa Lahiri’s best-selling short story collection Unaccustomed Earth. Additionally, Netflix has renewed its series Sweet Magnolias, based on books by Sherryl Woods, for a fifth season.

Netflix made the announcements in conjunction with Wednesday’s World Book Day. The two new series come as the streamer is also in production on another adaptation of a literary classic, John Steinbeck’s East of Eden, which stars Florence Pugh.

“At Netflix, we love when stories transcend the page and light up the screen, allowing fans to experience beloved stories in new and exciting ways,” said Jinny Howe, vp drama at the streamer. “The impact of these adaptations can be so powerful that it not only...

Fear Street: Prom Queen first look images take us back into the world of R.L. Stine
Image
Fear Street: Prom Queen, the continuation of the Fear Street film franchise that began with the release of the trilogy of Fear Street Part One: 1994, Fear Street Part Two: 1978, and Fear Street Part Three: 1666 on the Netflix streaming service back in the summer of 2021, made its way through production last year, and while Netflix hasn’t announced a specific release date for the film yet, we do know it’s supposed to arrive sometime this summer. To start building the hype, Netflix has just unveiled a batch of first look images, and you can check them out at the bottom of this article.

Author R.L. Stine has written over 100 books that have been published under the various Fear Street banners. While the initial trilogy of films wasn’t directly based on any specific Fear Street book, the new movie will be telling a version of the story Stine crafted for his 1992 book The Prom Queen.

Back In Action 2 Chances At Netflix Addressed By Director
Image
Warning: This article contains spoilers for 2025's Back in Action. The director of Back in Action has discussed the possibility of a sequel. The new Netflix movie is an action-comedy directed and co-written by Horrible Bosses' Seth Gordon that stars Jamie Foxx and Cameron Diaz (in her first movie role since 2014's Annie) as Matt and Emily, a married couple whose former lives as CIA spies drag them and their kids into an action-packed adventure. The Back in Action cast also includes Andrew Scott, Jamie Demetriou, Kyle Chandler, and Glenn Close.

RadioTimes.com had the opportunity to sit down with Seth Gordon to discuss the ending of Back in Action, which involves Emily and Matt being approached by Baron (Scott) for another mission, this time involving Emily's father. Gordon teased that he has "got some ideas" about what that could involve in a possible sequel, which has not yet been officially greenlit by Netflix.

Back In Action Rotten Tomatoes Score Debut Marks A Disappointing Return For Cameron Diaz
Image
Back in Action has now debuted on Rotten Tomatoes, and the score marks a lackluster acting return for star Cameron Diaz. Directed by Seth Gordon, the Netflix action-comedy stars Diaz and Jamie Foxx as former CIA operatives Emily and Matt, respectively, as they are pulled back into the world of spycraft after their real identities are exposed. The film marks Diaz's return to acting after 10 years away from the spotlight, and the Back in Action reviews now making their way online are suggesting it might not be a triumphant one.

As the film now becomes available to stream on Netflix, Back in Action's Rotten Tomatoes score has begun to take shape. As of writing, the film stands at a disappointing 25% from 20 reviews, earning it a "Rotten" designation. This score is likely to fluctuate, however, as more reviews are added. There currently aren't enough audience reviews for a Popcornmeter score to take shape,...

Greta Lee and Wagner Moura Will Star in Netflix’s ‘11817,’ a Sci-Fi Thriller from Louis Leterrier
Image
Imagine being locked inside your own home with no way out. That’s the terrifying premise of the upcoming sci-fi thriller 11817, starring Greta Lee and Wagner Moura. Directed by Louis Leterrier, the movie tells the story of a family of four who find themselves sealed into their house with dwindling resources and a mysterious, menacing force keeping them trapped.

As tensions rise, the family must band together to survive in the face of mounting challenges.

The screenplay comes from Matthew Robinson, known for his work on Love and Monsters, Dora and the Lost City of Gold, and The Invention of Lying. Leterrier, who recently directed Fast X, will produce the film alongside Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping, and Kori Adelson through Chernin Entertainment.

'Back in Action' Review | It Is What It Is
Image
I'm ashamed to admit that this review was originally mean-spirited, an attempted dexterous put-down, but then David Lynch died today. He has nothing to do with Back in Action, and it's only a matter of cosmic happenstance that the two would be mentioned in the same paragraph, let alone one train of thought. I loved Lynch's work. I also loved Roger Ebert's work as a film critic. He did not like most of Lynch's films before The Straight Story, and yet, with his particular generosity of spirit and ability to give people the intellectual benefit of doubt, he was never mean about it. He wrote in his review of Wild at Heart:

"There is something inside of me that resists the films of David Lynch. I am aware of it, I admit to it, but I cannot think my way around it. I sit and watch his...

‘Back In Action’ Review: Jamie Foxx And Cameron Diaz Reunite For Zany And Unapologetically Over-The-Top Spy Comedy
Image
If Back In Action serves for no other reason than to be the movie that finally brought Cameron Diaz back in action making movies, than it was worth it.

Yes, this spy action comedy feels derivative as we have seen from Mr. And Mrs. Smith to Jason Bourne (as the film itself references), and as recently as Mark Wahlberg’s Family Plan which saw his character on the run with his unsuspecting family when his past as a secret assassin is outed. In Back In Action, it is longtime married couple Matt (Jamie Foxx) and Emily (Diaz) whose long-ago past as super spies comes home to roost — literally — as their suburban cover and happy family life with their two kids is disrupted when a key final job they did 15 years earlier comes back to haunt them. It brings them out of “retirement” on a mission to keep a certain weapon out of the wrong hands.

Greta Lee and Wagner Moura to Star in Louis Leterrier’s Sci-Fi Thriller ‘11817’ for Netflix
Image
Greta Lee (“Past Lives”) and Wagner Moura (“Civil War”) are set to star in Louis Leterrier’s Sci-Fi Thriller “11817” for Netflix.

Leterrier is directing from a script written by Matthew Robinson.

“11817” follows a family of four who are suddenly sealed inside their home with no way out, and they must work to survive against both their dwindling resources and the mysterious, looming threat that is keeping them trapped.

“Directing projects where the audience gets behind the characters has always been my focus. However complex, flawed, heroic, we identify with them as we live through their journey,” Leterrier previously said in a statement. “It’s what excites me about ‘11817’s’ wholly original concept and the family at the heart of our story. This is an experience that movie audiences won’t forget.”

Leterrier is also producing the project along with Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping, Kori Adelson for Chernin Entertainment,...

'Fear Street: Prom Queen' Rating Is Great News for Horror Fans
Image
Get ready for a real scare. It appears that R.L. Stine and Netflix's partnership is still going strong and, lucky for horror fans, is not straying from the path of its success in the more adult-focused horror market. Netflix's Fear Street film trilogy took the Goosebumps writer's teen horror book series of the same name from the page to the screen.

But rather than keeping the teen-oriented spooks, the producers decided to move the stories into the "R" rated territory, and what a fruitful decision that was for the classic series. With the next installment of the horror films, Fear Street: Prom Queen, following in the previous films' footsteps, the future of the series is promising for fans of Stine and horror alike.

The Goosebumps books, with the first being published in 1989, were explicitly meant for teenagers, limiting the amount of gore and graphic violence that they could contain.

R.L. Stine says there are three more Fear Street movies in the works
Leigh Janiak
Director Leigh Janiak and the Netflix streaming service brought us a really fun horror event back in the summer of 2021 with the Fear Street trilogy. Three films that were filmed back-to-back-to-back and then released over the course of three weeks – those films being Fear Street Part One: 1994, Fear Street Part Two: 1978, and Fear Street Part Three: 1666. It was an instant franchise, and had the potential to lead to many more films… because, after all, author R.L. Stine has written over 100 books that have been published under the various Fear Street banners. While we won’t be getting another trilogy event this year, we do know that a new addition to the franchise, Fear Street: Prom Queen, will be reaching Netflix sometime in 2025 – and Stine has told The Hollywood Reporter that there actually are three new Fear Street movies in the works!

After telling the interviewer there are three Fear Streets in development,...

Yahya Abdul-Mateen II Injured on Set of Netflix's Man on Fire Reboot
Image
Actor Yahya Abdul-Mateen II was hurt on the set of the upcoming Man on Fire reboot in the works at Netflix. Fortunately, his injuries were not severe.

Per Deadline, Abdul-Mateen reportedly suffered a "minor hand injury" while on the Mexico City set for Man on Fire. The incident forced a pause in production, though filming is now expected to pick back up on Monday. Abdul-Mateen will have some extra time to nurse his hand, however, as he's not scheduled to return to the set until Dec. 20. In light of the injury, the filming schedule had been shifted, so work will be able to quickly resume on scenes that don't require Abdul-Mateen to be present. No additional details have yet been revealed about what caused the injury or about the severity beyond the "mild" description.

Image
For 109 episodes, Colman Domingo played the role of Victor Strand on Fear the Walking Dead. That show came to an end last year, and Domingo has moved on with The Madness, a Netflix series that the streamer’s scripted series vice president Peter Friedlander has described as “a fresh take on the conspiracy thriller” that will turn “the genre on its head with its multilayered characters, propulsive action and swift pace.” I was fortunate enough to talk to star Domingo about his work as Muncie Daniels on the show, a complex role that really pushes him to his limits. You can check out our interview in the embed above.

Created by playwright Stephen Belber, who also serves as showrunner alongside executive producer VJ Boyd, The Madness has the following synopsis: Muncie Daniels is a political consultant-turned-tv pundit who may have lost his way in life. While on a work sabbatical...
