Also playing well before the crowd was a first look at Netflix and Skydance Animation’s “Spellbound,” which will be released Nov. 22 and featured next week at Annecy. Nathan Lane introduced the clip from the movie, directed by Vicky Jensen,...

The popular, warm-hearted Apple TV+ comedy drama Ted Lasso is coming to DVD and Blu-Ray in the UK in July.
There are few success stories as unlikely as Ted Lasso. Originating as a character Jason Sudeikis played to promote NBC Sports’ coverage of the Premier League in 2013, it was another four years before Scrubs creator Bill Lawrence came aboard to develop the series for Apple TV+. Sudeikis’ long-time friend and colleague Brendan Hunt and Joe Kelly were also among the creative team.
The show is ostensibly about AFC Richmond, a fictitious London football club, but the heart of the show lies in the relationships between its characters.
Ted’s relentless optimism does not mesh well with the more cynical worldview of the team, but he eventually wins over steely club owner Rebecca (Hannah Waddingham), as he attempts to whip the team into shape with the cool and collected Coach Beard...

There’s quite a lot going on beneath the shiny, fun surface of this animated comedy, though some of the questions it deals with — animal mortality, the world’s fragile eco-system — might be too much for younger children to process. For older, smarter kids, it could be a gateway film, a way to turn young cinephiles onto Powell and Pressburger’s 1946 masterpiece A Matter of Life and Death, with which it shares a little DNA. It also, like the brace of Chicken Run movies, raises the subject of nature conservation in a way they will respond to, thanks to Bill Nighy’s deliciously machiavellian uber-villain and his killer horde of robot bees.

When his wish is finally granted, however, he learns that it comes with some caveats.

With Phil Dunster’s supporting comedy actor nomination for “Ted Lasso” on Friday, the much-decorated Apple TV+ series is now in some rare and esteemed company in having each of its original regular cast members honored with at least a single Emmy nod. Only seven other major shows in television history can make a similar claim: “All in the Family,” “Cheers,” “The Golden Girls,” “Seinfeld,” “Sex and the City,” “Will & Grace” and “Schitt’s Creek.”
Here are the eight nominated performers for “Lasso”: Jason Sudeikis, Brett Goldstein, Nick Mohammed, Jeremy Swift, Juno Temple, Hannah Waddingham, Brendan Hunt and now Dunster.

This story about Phil Dunster and “Ted Lasso” first appeared in the Down to the Wire: Comedy issue of TheWrap’s awards magazine.
Over the course of the three seasons of “Ted Lasso,” 14 different actors have been nominated for Emmys for the Apple TV+ comedy about a down-on-his-luck American football coach who somehow ends up managing an English soccer team. But until this year, one key member of the original cast was missing from that list: Phil Dunster, who plays the egotistical, brash star Jamie Tartt, has watched co-stars like series co-creator Jason Sudeikis and castmates Hannah Waddingham, Brett Goldstein, Juno Temple, Nick Mohammed, Brendan Hunt and Jeremy Swift land nominations, while Emmy voters have never quite found room for him in the slate of nominees.
But in the third (and presumably final) season, Jamie Tartt had a touching storyline in which he bonded with former nemesis Roy Kent (Goldstein...

Coach Beard is getting married! On June 29, "Ted Lasso" actor Brendan Hunt announced his engagement to his longtime girlfriend, Shannon Nelson, in a post on Instagram. According to his caption, Hunt captured the exact moment Nelson, who also appeared in one episode of "Ted Lasso" as Ms. Ledbetter, said yes. The blurry photo features a closeup of a smiling Nelson showing off her ring. "The majestic @snoopshann, so rarely photographed in her natural habitat, captured here in the act of saying 'yes," Hunt wrote.
Nelson shared her excitement on her own Instagram. In addition to sharing the same photo Hunt shared, she also posted a close-up snap of herself with her new fiancé. "We are a family," she wrote. "A beautiful wonderful family and will be for always. Some folks have assumed we had already done this, but truth be told we had other priorities in becoming a family. Now it feels right.

Having covered this business for a while, I’ve written several stories over the years about pilot and series recastings, and it always strikes me as one of the cruelest moments for anyone to experience in this business.
Imagine you’ve been given a role in a pilot: The exciting news appears in the trades, you film the episode and take the cast publicity photos. Then your show is picked up! But there’s a caveat: Your role is being re-shot with a new actor. Devastating! Cue sad trombone sound effect.
That’s why I like these kinds of stories better: The background actors, guest stars and recurring actors who eventually graduate to series regular status thanks to sheer persistence and talent. That’s the case this season for “Ted Lasso” standout James Lance, who plays Trent Crimm — formerly of The Independent, now just independent — on the show.

As the cast of Apple TV+’s “Ted Lasso” gathered outside the Saban Media Center on Saturday night for their FYC event, audience members were greeted by handouts from several picketing writers of the WGA in front of the entrance.
But despite the ongoing picketing that’s halted several productions including new seasons of “Abbott Elementary” and “Yellowjackets,” stars Hannah Waddingham and Juno Temple reveal their upcoming projects haven’t been touched by the strike’s effects just yet.
Temple is set to star in “Venom 3,” which is rumored to be released October 2024, though Sony Pictures Entertainment hasn’t released an official release date as of yet. But the actress shares that she hasn’t started shooting on the film just yet but is scheduled to start “very, very soon, which I’m thrilled about.” Whereas, Waddingham’s role in “Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part Two” is already underway.

[This story contains spoilers for “So Long, Farewell,” the season three finale of Ted Lasso.]
Ten days after the season three finale of Ted Lasso left fans wondering if this was truly the end of the hit Apple TV+ series, its stars reunited at a For Your Consideration Emmys event on Saturday night to weigh in on that final episode and the show’s mysterious future.
Though Jason Sudeikis, Brett Goldstein and Brendan Hunt were forced to miss the event amid the writers strike and rules that WGA members can’t currently promote their projects, Hannah Waddingham, Juno Temple, Phil Dunster, Jeremy Swift and Cristo Fernández were among the stars in attendance at the TV Academy event.
Dunster joked that when reading the final episode script and seeing how everything would wrap up, “I remember the WhatsApp group with everyone on was full of like, ‘Bastards, you made me cry,’ and it was really sad. It’s like being at school, and school finishes, and...

This post contains spoilers for the season 3 finale of "Ted Lasso."
"Ted Lasso" was adept at delivering the thrills of a sports drama, with the fall and rise of an underground English football team, while also telling a beautiful story about community, mental health, self-improvement, and being open about emotions.
After three seasons, "Ted Lasso" is seemingly, apparently, as far as we know, done and over. After two very strong seasons, the final season was a very mixed bag, with a lack of focus thanks to longer episodes that dragged on, a sermon-of-the-week format that seemed to take away from the joy of earlier seasons, and a misguided football story that was too obsessed with winning — until it wasn't.
This is (kind of) a football show, of course, meaning the characters' careers and stories carry on after the end of the finale. We know Ted Lasso's career at AFC Richmond is over,...

Spoiler Alert: This review contains spoilers from the series finale of “Ted Lasso,” now streaming on Apple TV+.
Here’s a scoop: There will be a fourth season of “Ted Lasso.” Actually, it has already aired, and it was not great.
“Ted Lasso” grew out a character created by Jason Sudekis and friends for NBC Premier League promos, a Kansas City-based football coach who somehow finds himself coaching the other football in London for AFC Richmond, a chronically downtrodden franchise. It’s a typical fish-out-of water premise, which is a classic comedy trope, but comes with some limitations — namely, when the fish becomes an amphibian and begins to love land life. Mindful of those constraints, “Lasso” debuted in 2020 to acclaim, with critics lauding its cock-eyed optimism as the world struggled with a deadly pandemic. Season 1’s 10 episodes ran an average of 30 minutes apiece, totaling 299 minutes for the season.

“Ted Lasso” wrapped up its acclaimed three-season run on Wednesday, as the Apple TV+ comedy took its final bow as AFC Richmond came so close to taking home the Premiere League Title, winding up second behind Manchester United in an appropriately humbling and hopeful conclusion to an honest and meaningful series.
It was a bittersweet episode, filled with the heartfelt speeches and emotional character development that fans have come to know and love from the two-time Emmy winner for Outstanding Comedy Series.
After the final game, it came time for the eponymous Ted Lasso (Jason Sudeikis) to bid farewell to the team and town he’s come to love and return home to his son in the US. However, despite his departure, fans quickly got a chance to see the next stage in the lives of all the other beloved characters.

[This story contains spoilers from “So Long, Farewell,” the third season — and possible series — finale of Ted Lasso.]
All season long, the people who make Ted Lasso have been somewhat coy about whether the end of their planned three-season arc would mark the end of the series. Jason Sudeikis, Bill Lawrence and others have said multiple times that this season would mark the end of what they set out to do, while never quite stating that it would definitively close out the series.
The last installment of season three, “So Long, Farewell,” played no such games. The episode felt every bit like a series finale, with callbacks to the past and flash-forwards to the futures of several key characters (imagined or not; more on that in a few paragraphs). The fact that Ted Lasso is Apple TV+’s biggest series by far to date might mean that the streamer and Warner Bros. TV, which produces the show, might find a way to make a sequel or spinoff featuring...

Spoiler Alert: The following reveals major plot points from the Season 3 finale of Apple’s Ted Lasso.
The biggest question about the Season 3 finale of Apple TV+’s hit Ted Lasso is whether or not it would serve as the comedy’s series finale. Top to bottom, the episode titled “So Long, Farewell” feels like a series finale in how everything gets tied up but the show could certainly carry on as is—with or without Ted (Jason Sudeikis) who pulled the trigger on his move back to Kansas to be with his family.
From the moment the episode begins, Ted can’t help but smile while thinking he will be back home with his son Henry (Gus Turner). The pair exchange cute texts using funny gifs as they do.
Back in Rebecca’s (Hannah Waddingham) office, she is catching up with Keeley (Juno Temple) and Leslie (Jeremy Swift) about...

Season 3, Episode 12, titled “So Long, Farewell,” debuted Wednesday and wrapped up many of the loose ends left behind in previous episodes. Richmond got one last exciting soccer game — and a win! Jason Sudeikis and ‘Ted Lasso’ Cast Rally at Warner Bros. Picket Lines Ahead of Show’s Season Finale
The cast and writers crew of Apple TV+’s sports comedy-drama “Ted Lasso” all came to a huddle at Warner Bros. picket lines on Tuesday.
Right after a day off from work, WGA writers hit the field for what is now the WGA’s fifth week of striking, as the WGA continues its fight for better residual pay in streaming, and the closure of the mini-room model, among other items, following a failed negotiation with the AMPTP. The cast and crew of “Ted Lasso” were one of the groups to hit picket lines.
“Much thanks to the gang for taking some time on such a big day to show their support for #wgastrong #tedlasso,” “Ted Lasso” co-creator Brendan Hunt said in an Instagram post.

Through the ups and downs of AFC Richmond’s football matches to the personal triumphs and struggles, Ted Lasso has found a place in plenty of viewers’ hearts, and the same could be said of the cast as stars Hannah Waddingham, Brett Goldstein, Toheeb Jimoh, Brendan Hunt, Phil Dunster, Nick Mohammed, Jeremy Swift, James Lance, Kola Bokinni, Billy Harris, and Cristo Fernández. (Credit: Apple TV+) Together, they’re reflecting on the quotes, moments, and more from the series which make them happy. What’s even sweeter is this team’s admiration for one another as Waddingham reveals one of her favorite moments features Dunster’s Jamie Tartt. The moment in particular that Waddingham refers...

It’s been a tough time in Hollywood and beyond as the Writers Guild strike shut down production of just about every kind of entertainment — and lots of parties and events, too. Canceled/postponed celebrations included the MTV Movie & TV Awards, the 49th AFI Lifetime Achievement Award: A Tribute to Nicole Kidman, the Critics Choice Inaugural Celebration of LGBTQ+ Cinema & Television and many others.
But music festivals like the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival marked the early beginning of summer fest season and Netflix helped launch Pride Month early with a huge “All Out” celebration in West Hollywood. Meanwhile, “The Little Mermaid” swam into Hollywood for a lavish premiere and SeriesFest: Chapter 9 took over Denver. So all is not lost in the world of Parties & Premieres, but we sure hope that Hollywood writers get the raises they deserve and go back to work very soon.

It’s fair to say that Ted Lasso has been something of a phenomenon, and continues to grip and entertain viewers as it reaches its third season, which is underway now on Apple TV+. Halfway through the season, which has episodes launching weekly on the platform, we had the pleasure in speaking with many of the familiar faces and affable characters that make up this heartwarming, and progressive comedy series.
Below you can find our interviews with Phil Dunster (Jamie), Nick Mohammed (Nathan), as well as Jeremy Swift (Leslie) and James Lance (Trent) together,. before ending with a grouped interview with three of Richmond’s finest, Cristo Fernandez (Dani), Kola Bokinni (Isaac) & Billy Harris (Colin).
We discuss all manner of things, from fan engagement, to eggs, to meeting the President of the United States of America, to the film’s forward-thinking narratives, and how the show can help impact the world we live in today.

During a trip to Amsterdam with the AFC Richmond crew, Higgins (Jeremy Swift) makes it clear that he’s hitting the red light district. Within the first 10 minutes of Ted Lasso Season 3, Episode 6, “Sunflowers,” he repeats the phrase several times, sometimes with a literal eyebrow raise, while various characters around him look confused, then scandalized, then ultimately laugh it off with an over-the-top “Nah!” It’s a joke that may have worked once, maybe even twice, but the constant and immediate repetition is indicative of what’s wrong with Ted Lasso’s final season as a whole: It’s spending more time trying to replicate past success than treading new ground.
