Magic Hour (2025) unfolds as an intimate drama laced with surreal undercurrents, a film that both whispers and shouts its truths. Conceived and helmed by Katie Aselton—with Mark Duplass as co‑writer—this is a work born of close collaboration, yet transmuted into something uncanny and untethered.
At its heart lies Erin and Charlie, a married pair who decamp to an isolated Joshua Tree retreat after an unspecified calamity. Their shared history flickers into view through archived home‑movie footage, all golden light and soft laughter. Then, barely twenty minutes in, the story fractures: Charlie’s presence shifts from flesh to apparition, an early twist that reorients our gaze. This choice, daring in its economy, forces us to question every look and gesture that follows.
The film moves within a single, desolate house—its walls an echo chamber for grief. Aselton’s direction is unflinching and tactile, her camera lingering...

Katie Aselton’s fourth film as director is begging for a spoiler. That would explain a lot but also give away too much. Luckily, the big reveal comes 20 minutes into this sensitively played yet too-obvious drama about a couple who go to the desert to regroup and look ahead to an altered future. Aselton plays Erin, whose mood at first veers with annoying abruptness between mournful and happy. Daveed Diggs is Charlie, full of smiling, even-tempered charm. If Charlie seems too good to be true, he is.
Aselton’s films include The Freebie (2010), arguably her best and a very different marriage story, and most recently Mack & Rita (2022) with Diane Keaton, a critical flop she didn’t write. She plays to her strengths and her indie roots in Magic Hour, directing herself and the other actors to natural, likable performances.

While Dallas and Dynasty might have very concrete cultural icons and high points, and Knots Landing offers multiple places to start watching depending on what kind of show you’re interested in, Falcon Crest only has one place to kick off watching if you don’t want to do it from Season One, Episode One.
The Grapes of Boredom
Falcon Crest premiered on December 4, 1981, with Dallas, a year post-Who Shot Jr? as its lead-in. It should have been a massive hit. And it did well enough. Except for one minor problem: It was kind of boring.
Following his father’s mysterious death, Chase (Robert Foxworth) returns to the Tuscany Valley, his wife, and two grown kids in tow to battle with his aunt Angela (Jane Wyman) for the family grapes and winery. Angela snarled, Chase self-righteously pontificated, and his wife, Maggie (Susan Sullivan), simpered. Chase’s son, Cole (William R. Moses...

Medical examiners are often forgotten about in film and television, as the more glamorous role of detective is usually centered in crime stories. However, there are certain TV shows that feature strong medical examiner characters, sometimes even putting them in the role of protagonist. Often serving as foils to the brash and action-oriented detectives, the medical examiner's character is often logical and dedicated to finding the truth. Many of the most exciting crime dramas give their doctors and scientists the chance to step outside the lab and see what it's like in the field.
Though not every crime show is a procedural, many of them fall into this genre. Some of the best TV procedurals came out in the 2000s when the genre was branching out to include crime, medical dramas, and much more. If there is one thing that Castle had going for it was the amazing Castle cast. What's a writer without his muse? That was the basic premise behind Castle, starring Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic. The 2009-2016 ABC crime-comedy-drama received praise and accolades during its time on the air. The show followed New York writer Rick Castle (Fillion) shadowing the exploits of NYPD Homicide Detective Kate Beckett (Katic).
With an ensemble cast of fellow detectives, police personnel, and civilians, the show had no shortage of fun and interesting characters. The series ended somewhat abruptly following Katic's departure from the show in 2016, so fans may be left wondering what happened to their favorite actors. Let's see what the cast of Castle has been up to since the series finale!

We Americans are fascinated with food and the people who prepare and serve it. A quick glance at all of the reality cooking/competition shows on television will confirm this. You’ve got everything from “Master Chef” to “Iron Chef” to “Next Level Chef” to “Chef’s Table,” “Chopped,” “The Great British Bake-Off” and “The American Barbecue Showdown,” for starters. But the legacy of scripted TV shows about cooking and restaurant-ing isn’t nearly as epic, which is why FX on Hulu’s “The Bear” was such a revelation when it launched last summer.
“The Bear” introduced up to the pressure-cooker life inside an Italian beef sandwich shop in Chicago. It captured the visceral, adrenalin-pumping chaos of the food industry in a way nothing had before, showing us just how unglamorous and dangerous (and yet colorful and compelling) a kitchen can be. After just eight episodes, it’s already probably the...

We are all familiar with the old adage “opposites attract,” but Dharma & Greg takes it to a whole new comedic level. Running from 1999 to 2002, the show features beloved characters that still feel as much like friends as they did when the show first premiered.
Created by Chuck Lorre and Dottie Dartland, the eight-time Golden Globe nominated and six-time Emmy Award nominated show won the hearts of audiences. It starred Jenna Elfman and Thomas Gibson as the odd couple who said I do after just one date. Not only are audiences captivated by their rushed marriage, but also by how much they embody the idea that “opposites attract.” Dharma is a free-spirited yoga instructor, while Greg is a sensible attorney. Their upbringings could also not have been more diverse, leading to a series of misunderstandings between the two throughout the episodes. Unsurprisingly, mixing the daughter of two hippie parents raised...

"This is your golden parachute, sweetie, don't you see?" XYZ Films has debuted an official trailer for Diary of a Spy, described as a "gripping romantic spy thriller" based on a true story. This one is skipping theaters and opening on VOD / digital starting in July this summer. That latest from the celebrated indie writer / director Adam Christian Clark, Diary of a Spy is a uniquely intimate and gripping espionage thriller that's inspired by true, but confidential, events. A washed-up intelligence officer is given the chance for one last mission, recruiting an asset connected to the Saudi Royal Family. But soon realizes she must decide between finishing her mission or finding a way to save herself. Starring Tamara Taylor as Anna, the disgraced spy, and Reece Noi as Camden, her reclusive mark. Also starring Fred Melamed, Madeline Zima, Susan Sullivan, and Jon Lindstrom, with Paulina Leija. This looks quite intriguing.

Castle has a new address. Lifetime has set an October 5 premiere date for the latest exclusive syndicated run of the crime dramedy starring Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic.

Castle, which originally aired on ABC from 2009-16, stars Fillion as famous mystery novelist Richard Castle, who connects with the NYPD when he is enlisted to help solve a series of copycat murders ripped from the pages of his Derek Storm novels. Suffering from writer’s block and realizing that working with the police might give him some new ideas for his next book, Castle finds himself paired with Detective Kate Beckett (Katic). Tonight, viewers said goodby to the Baxters and their friends for a second time. The sitcom was cancelled by ABC after six seasons but was revived a year later for three more seasons on Fox. While there won't be a 10th season anytime soon, this family comedy seems ripe for a revival somewhere down the line.

Castle was a huge fan favorite, but by the time the show reached season 8, it seemed no one was happy.
There were rumors of infighting behind the scenes, which led to fewer and fewer scenes filmed between the two leads.
Then Castle’s lead and supporting actresses (Stana Katic and Tamala Jones) were shockingly fired weeks before Castle Season 8 ended!
Fans were outraged, so much so that they began sending coffee sleeves to ABC with messages such as #SaveCaskett and #CancelCastle. Coffee was a symbol of love and affection between the two characters throughout the series.
The show’s fans wanted the series canceled rather than have it go on without their favorite couple.
What other show has had its diehard shippers root for its demise rather than see the series-long love story end and its main couple left to bleed out on the floor?
The fans got their wish.

Technology is amazing, isn’t it? On Thursday’s “Last Man Standing,” Mike Baxter (Tim Allen) is trapped in their Vail, Colorado cabin, courtesy of what appears to be like 5 feet of snow. Thankfully, his FaceTime is functioning flawlessly amid the blizzard.
In TheWrap’s exclusive first look from this week’s episode, Baxter and his daughter Mandy (Molly McCook) are video-chatting the day before Bonnie (guest star Susan Sullivan) and Ed’s (Hector Elizondo) wedding.
The bride, by the way, is cool as a cucumber over everything. It’s a different story for Vanessa (Nancy Travis).

Mike Baxter’s got a secret on Thursday’s “Last Man Standing,” the question is, can he keep it? Well, the very easy answer is, of course he can, because it will allow him to “torment” his dear wife Vanessa.
In TheWrap’s exclusive clip from “You’ve Got Male (or Female),” one of tonight’s two back-to-back episodes of the Fox sitcom, Mike’s (Tim Allen) daughter Kristen (Amanda Fuller), comes to his office to ask him to be in charge of her unborn baby’s gender reveal party because she believes he’s capable of keeping the big secret — and that her mother Vanessa (Nancy Travis) definitely is not.
Mike admits that while he wouldn’t normally plan a party, he will gladly be in charge of this one, since it’s going to eat up Vanessa when she finds out he knows the gender of their grandchild and she doesn’t.

Two-time Oscar winner Michael Douglas made a triumphant return to the small screen with “The Kominsky Method,” his first episodic television series since “The Streets of San Francisco” in 1972-76. The role of Sandy Kominsky, an aging acting coach who enjoyed a brief brush with fame, earned him an Emmy nomination in Best Comedy Actor. He’s now a six-time nominee, having won for his leading performance in the TV movie “Behind the Candelabra” (2013) and competed three times for “The Streets of San Francisco” (1974-76) and once more for a guest turn on “Will & Grace” (2002). Additionally, he contended at SAG and the Critics Choice awards for the Netflix comedy.
For his Emmy submission, Douglas has chosen the pilot, “An Actor Avoids.” In this installment, Sandy asks Lisa (Nancy Travis), a divorcee attending his acting class, out on a date. He meets with his agent, Norman (Alan Arkin), who informs...

Alan Arkin is just an Emmy win away from the Triple Crown of Acting. The veteran actor earned an Oscar for his supporting role in “Little Miss Sunshine” (2006) and a Tony Award in 1963 for his featured role in “Enter Laughing.” This year, he is nominated as Best Comedy Supporting Actor for his role as talent agent Norman Newlander on Netflix’s “The Kominsky Method.” Arkin has submitted the episode “Chapter Two: An Agent Grieves” for Emmy consideration.
The episode centers around Norman planning a funeral for his wife Eileen (Susan Sullivan) after she has died of cancer. Though devastated by his wife’s death, Norman enlists his best friend and client Sandy Kominsky (Best Comedy Actor nominee Michael Douglas) to carry out Eileen’s final wishes. There’s a common thread that ties together most of this year’s comedy actor contenders, and it’s pretty morbid. For a category that’s supposed to be all about chuckles, there sure is a lot of death.

Michael Douglas’ character in “The Kominsky Method” has to comfort his best friend (Alan Arkin) after the loss of his wife (Susan Sullivan), and the specter of everyone’s advancing mortality is an ongoing theme. Ted Danson is a spirit in the afterlife who helps a group of deceased misfit humans try to get into “The Good Place.” Don Cheadle’s “Black Monday” starts and ends with a gruesome death on the day of the 1987 stock market crash. “Forever” follows...
