Son of Sir Tom Stoppard and Miriam Stoppard.

His father was born in Zlin, Czechoslovakia [now Czech Republic], to a Czech Jewish family. His mother is also of Eastern European Jewish descent.

Cousin of politician Oona King (their mothers are sisters).

Brother of producer Will Stoppard.

Plays a Jewish victim of the holocaust in The Pianist (2002). His father Tom Stoppard learned later in life that he had lost all of his four grandparents at Theresienstadt Concentration Camp.
