Entering the Merchant Marine at the tender age of 15, Harry travelled
the world over, before joining the U.S. Lighthouse Service in 1936.
Always an avid photographer, Stites was assigned to a Joint Service
Command of the Armed Forces under the aegis of the U. S Coast Guard, as
a field photographer. It was during this period, that Harry began
working in motion pictures for the armed forces, in technical aspects,
mostly as an assistant director and editor of training films. During
this period, Harry was occasionally loaned out to some of the major
studios as either a consultant, technical advisor or editor on pictures
dealing with the maritime services. Retiring from the military in 1966,
Stites wrote, produced, directed and edited industrial training films
for major corporations. Harry, now retired resides in Tracy, California
with his wife Dianne.
