- After Friday the 13th: A New Beginning (1985), he was lined up to direct a further five movies, but they all fell through. After that he was involved in a serious bicycle accident and was unable to return to directing.
- In 1985 he was hired to write and direct a sequel to The Last House on the Left (1972) for Paramount. After the film fell through, he was offered the chance to direct Friday the 13th: A New Beginning (1985) instead.
- Died the same year as James Isaac, who directed the 10th Friday the 13th film, Jason X (2001).
- Son of Herbert R. Steinmann.
- Survived by son Robert Steinman Elden.
