10 Worst Dceu Movies Ranked – According to Fans
Image
The Dceu began with ambitious plans to match the success of the MCU, with Warner Bros. aiming to bring iconic DC characters to the big screen over a decade. Despite financial success, Snyder’s darker vision for the characters didn’t resonate with audiences, leading to the eventual reboot with James Gunn’s Dcu. While some Dceu films were well-received, others were considered significant flops.

Fans have compiled their picks for the 10 worst Dceu movies. Let’s dive into their selections.

10. ‘The Suicide Squad’ (2021)

After the mixed reception of David Ayer’s Suicide Squad (2016), expectations were high for James Gunn’s take on the franchise. However, some fans were disappointed as the film didn’t meet their expectations or align with their preferences. Gunn’s signature irreverent humor and over-the-top style, which were successful in movies like Guardians of the Galaxy, didn’t resonate with everyone, contributing to its place in the “top 10 worst” rankings.

Why The WB Canceled The Batman Spin-Off Series Birds Of Prey
Image
Over a decade before the Arrowverse shows and their crossover events set the standard on The CW, its predecessor, The WB, was already experimenting with similar ideas involving multiple DC Comics superheroes teaming up to fight evil. On October 9, 2002, the network's "Birds of Prey" introduced a Batman-free version of Gotham City where crime runs rampant and familiar faces from the DC universe clash.

From a modern point of view, the show had a lot going for it. Its promo clips heavily suggested that its events existed in (a version of) the same continuity as the Tim Burton Batman movies -- not that this stopped the series from briefly introducing a distinctly new version of the Joker, as voiced by none other than Mark Hamill.  As its main character, "Birds of Prey" had Helena "Huntress" Kyle (Ashley Scott), the super-powered daughter of Catwoman and Batman. Teaming up with former Batgirl Barbara Gordon...

Netflix’s Hidden Sci-Fi Gem Is Being Called A Brilliant ‘Black Mirror’-Style Thriller You Won’t Stop Thinking About
Image
Netflix Sci-Fi Thriller Hit(Photo Credit –Netflix)

Netflix users have quietly rediscovered a 2022 gem that never quite got the praise it deserved at launch. Tucked beneath the endless scroll of titles is Spiderhead, a sleek psychological sci-fi thriller that’s been causing a stir again, especially among fans of twisted dystopias and dark tech tales. It’s got the DNA of Black Mirror, but stretched into something a little more cinematic and a little more emotionally raw.

Chris Hemsworth Like You’ve Never Seen Him

The film, directed by Joseph Kosinski and carried by performances from Chris Hemsworth, Miles Teller, and Jurnee Smollett, throws its audience into a pristine, eerily beautiful experimental and futuristic prison where redemption is traded for mind-altering drugs. Inside this prison turned lab, a couple of prisoners volunteer to be guinea pigs in exchange for reduced sentences, but what unfolds is far more than a clinical trial.

Sarah Grey and Jake Manley in The Order (2019)
The Order (2024) Movie Ending Explained: Does Agent Terry Husk Find Robert Jay Matthews in the End?
Sarah Grey and Jake Manley in The Order (2019)
“The Order” (2024) is a brooding investigative thriller that puts another feather in director Justin Kurzel’s cap. After the chilling character portraits in “Nitram” and “The Snowtown Murders,” Kurzel returns with an equally harrowing depiction of evil in human beings. This time, he shifts his focus toward a White Supremacist terrorist group that was active in the 1980s. He paints the picture of a small American town mainly through the eyes of an FBI agent, who ends up in a cat-and-mouse chase with the terrorist group’s members. Although the plot essentially leads us toward its leader’s capture, it is more interested in interrogating the human tendencies that affect the usual order of any place, and how people react in such situations of change.

Spoilers Ahead

The Order (2024) Plot Summary & Movie Synopsis:

“The Order” starring Jude Law offers a grim portrait of an FBI investigation in the 1980s to investigate a white supremacist group,...

5 comic book movies that deserve musicals
Image
When done correctly, musical films can transcend genres.

In 2022, director Todd Phillips announced a sequel to Joker (2019) was being made and was titled Joker: Folie á Deux. This announcement was shortly followed by the reveal that Folie á Deux would in fact be a musical, with Lady Gaga set to portray Harley Quinn. While fans went gaga over the casting, the musical aspect was baffling to many. After all, why would the sequel to a non-musical comic book film, all of a sudden become a musical?

In 2024, that question was answered with an extremely polarizing because Joker: Folie á Deux was an incredibly lackluster follow up to the 2019 film, but was this due to the musical element? In the same year, Marvel Studios and Disney+ released Agatha All Along, only to find praise for the spellbinding story and magical music. Both of these comic book projects featured musical elements, but...

Jude Law & Nicholas Hoult's 92% Rotten Tomatoes Crime Thriller Gets New Streaming Home
Image
The criminally underrated The Order did not gain as much attention as other titles released on the big screen in 2024. Last year provided moviegoers a number of critically acclaimed features across various genres, leaving the Justin Kurzel-directed crime thriller somewhat overshadowed. However, that doesn’t mean the film wasn’t a critical success, with a 92% Rotten Tomatoes score as of this writing. Now, the movie is bound to be introduced to a much wider audience this month. The Order — starringJude Lawand Nicholas Hoult — will be added to Hulu's extensive library starting April 18, 2025.

The crime thriller boasts an ensemble cast led by Law and Hoult, both of whom have impressive acting portfolios under their belts. Law, best known for his performance in 1999's The Talented Mr. Ripley, has continued to prove his range as an actor time and again with a range of genres, including comedy, thriller, drama, and action.

The few series that come close to the quality of The Sopranos are the ones that push the boundaries of serialized television, and brought audiences nuanced and complicated stories.

'The Order' With Jude Law & Nicholas Hoult Finds Global Success on Streaming
Image
Jude Law and his glorious mustache are finding success on streaming, with the actor’s critically acclaimed crime thriller from last year now climbing the worldwide Prime Video charts. The Order, which finds Law starring as a world-weary FBI agent in this true story about one man’s fight against a white supremacist terrorist group, is now ranking #2 in Prime Video’s global top 10 as audiences tune in to watch this modern thriller masterpiece.

Based on a chilling true story and taking inspiration from the 1989 non-fiction book “The Silent Brotherhood: The Chilling Inside Story of America's Violent, Anti-Government Militia Movement” by Kevin Flynn and Gary Gerhardt, The Order is now considered one of the best movies of last year. Directed by Justin Kurzel, who is best known for the acclaimed Macbeth starring Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard (and the maligned adaptation of the video game Assassin’s Creed), The Order stars...

The Order
Image
It really is Nicholas Hoult’s time to shine. Having turned in stellar recent performances in Juror #2 and Nosferatu, he’s quietly terrifying as real-life 1980s white supremacist Bob Mathews in The Order, eerily sporting the same bowl haircut as he did aged 11 in About A Boy. Reuniting with his True History Of The Kelly Gang director Justin Kurzel, Hoult is totally convincing as the young neo-Nazi leader who is dangerously charismatic to his acolytes, fixing allies and enemies alike with his piercing gaze.

Mathews is up against Jude Law’s hard-bitten and gloriously moustachioed FBI agent Terry Husk. He’s certainly a hard-drinking husk of a man, convincing himself that his estranged wife and daughter will come back to him and that eliminating Mathews will silence his demons. Law and Hoult are brilliantly matched as the self-destructive adversaries who will each stop at nothing to achieve their ends, with...

5 Years Ago, One Of The Dceu's Best Movies Met A Grim Fate At The Box Office
Image
(Welcome to Tales from the Box Office, our column that examines box office miracles, disasters, and everything in between, as well as what we can learn from them.)

"I pitched the idea of an R-rated girl gang film including Harley, because I was like, 'Harley needs friends.'" That's what Margot Robbie said in May 2018, explaining how Harley Quinn's eventual 2020 spin-off film "Birds of Prey" came to be. "I wasn't seeing enough girl gangs on screen, especially in the action space."

Warner Bros. was in a weird spot around this time. Marvel was running laps around DC in the cinematic universe space, with "Avengers: Infinity War" shattering records in 2018 and the MCU collectively generating billions upon billions of dollars globally. DC, meanwhile, was reeling from the commercial disaster that was "Justice League," while trying to build on the success of "Wonder Woman." As part of that plan, they leaned...

Every Dceu Movie Canceled Because of James Gunn’s Dcu
Image
When Zack Snyder made Man of Steel with Henry Cavill, there were no plans of building a Dceu. However, DC executives were eager to catch up with Marvel, who were thriving with their superhero franchise. In their misguided vision for a DC franchise, the studio tried many things unsuccessfully before opting for a complete restructuring under James Gunn.

The Dceu already underwent several course corrections before the restructuring, resulting in a bunch of canceled or abandoned projects. After the new regime took over control, all planned films in the former Dceu were effectively canceled.

Every Dceu Movie Which Needs a Reboot in James Gunn’s Dcu
Image
After multiple issues, controversies, personnel changes, and mergers, the Dceu is finally done and dusted, with James Gunn taking over the reins as co-chief of DC Studios along with Peter Safran. The franchise, which was supposed to be a competitor to the MCU, crashed and burned but it was not without some genuinely good films.

The SnyderVerse is never happening. It is a miracle that fans even got the Snyder Cut. However, like how Gunn took the disastrous Suicide Squad and gave it a good direction with The Suicide Squad, there are a few more films from the Dceu that deserved better. Here are four films that need a second chance in the Dcu.

1. The Flash Ezra Miller in The Flash | Credits: Warner Bros.

This one had every obstacle thrown at it and while it is admirable that The Flash finally did release, the underwhelming quality of the film ultimately...

Each week we highlight the noteworthy titles that have recently hit streaming platforms in the United States. Check out this week’s selections below and past round-ups here.

Between the Temples (Nathan Silver)

In a state of arrested development after his wife unexpectedly died from a freak accident, Ben Gottlieb (Jason Schwartzman) is suicidal, pleading to a truck to just run him over and begging that he be fired from his job as cantor at the local Jewish temple in upstate New York. While this set-up may not scream comedy, Between the Temples is in fact hilarious, packed with endless jokes and adoration for physical gags while we witness Ben find new meaning in life through an unexpected acquaintance. Justin Kurzel in Macbeth (2015)
Directed by Justin Kurzel and written by Zach Baylin, The Order is a gripping 2024 action thriller based on the acclaimed non-fiction book The Silent Brotherhood by Kevin Flynn and Gary Gerhardt.

It stars Jude Law, Nicholas Hoult, Tye Sheridan, Jurnee Smollett, Alison Oliver, and Marc Maron.
