During the first season of Prime Video's The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, we were introduced to a mysterious new villain known as Adar, and the character's backstory turned out to be one of the most intriguing aspects of the show.
"Adar" is the Sindarin word for father, and we'd soon learn that the Orcs saw their leader as more of a paternal figure. J.R.R. Tolkien's original history of Middle Earth claimed that Morgoth captured some Elves right after their "awakening" and used dark magic and other twisted means to create a new form of life that would be loyal only to him.
During a conversation with Galadriel, Adar admits that he was indeed one of the first Elves, or "Moriondor," taken by Melkor and transformed into one of the first Orcs.

Prime Video recently released the first trailer for the second season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, giving us a glimpse of several new and returning characters who will be back to continue the battle to project Middle-earth from Sauron and his forces this August.
One familiar face was significant by her absence, however, and we now know why.
EW reports that Nazanin Boniadi, who played the human healer Bronwyn in season 1, will not reprise the role. The site claims that her reason for leaving the show is due to her decision to take a break from acting in 2022 to focus her attention on a real-world crisis that developed in her home country of Iran.
"I stepped away from acting in September 2022, to focus solely on the #WomanLifeFreedom uprising in Iran and to advocate for the people of my homeland who have been risking everything for freedom,...

The first trailer for the second season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power was released online yesterday afternoon, and Prime Video has now followed-up with a special "Look Inside" featurette spotlighting quite a bit of new footage.
The video takes us behind-the-scenes of the sophomore season of the Lotr prequel series, as the main cast members bring us up to speed on their respective characters.
By far the biggest talking point from the trailer is the return of Sauron, who has now taken his Elven "Annatar" form in an effort to hide out in Eregion. If the show follows the lore, the "Giver of Gifts" will befriend Celebrimbor and aid him in the making of the Nine (that were given to men) and Seven Rings (gifted to the Dwarves) of Power.
Of course, Celebrimbor and the other Elven smiths already met Sauron when he was disguised...

Prime Video has announced that we will get our first look at some footage from the second season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power tomorrow when the first teaser trailer is released online.
Production has been underway since late 2022 at Bray Studios, just outside London. Season 1 was shot in New Zealand, but the decision was made to change-up location because The UK is "considered more economical and is also where the company is establishing a multi-show hub."
The first season concluded with the reveal that the seemingly benevolent Halbrand was actually Sauron all along. The Dark Lord offered Galadriel the chance to join him once his ruse was discovered, and when she refused, he fled back to the Southlands (soon to be known as Mordor).
It was also heavily implied that "The Stranger" was really Gandalf, but this is yet to be confirmed by actor Daniel Weyman or the showrunners.

The late Robin Williams had the incredible and unmatched ability to make people laugh. His volcanic energy, genius delivery, and rapid impressions made him a household name. Williams’ immense success in the 1990s eventually opened the door for more serious films, including the tender Good Will Hunting and the fantastical What Dreams May Come. Not everything that came after was as well received or recognized, but Williams continued to pursue other genres outside of comedy. The actor had his fair share of dramatic performances to complement his comedic ones, but it was Williams’ sinister turn in 2002’s One Hour Photo that caught everyone off guard. No one was expecting Mrs. Doubtfire or Aladdin’s genie to star in such an unsettling psychological-thriller.

Writers — they're just like us! If you thought we fans were the only ones getting all caught up in our feelings while watching these larger-than-life stories on such an unimaginably wide canvas, think again. "The Lord of the Rings" has always boasted a sincere streak that tugs right at the heartstrings of its fans, revealing author J.R.R. Tolkien as something of a softie when it comes to fantastical adventures, the power of friendship, and the nostalgic comforts of home. The symbolic representation of these ideas have traditionally come courtesy of the hobbits, the home-loving little folk with big feet and even bigger hearts. Frodo, Sam, Bilbo, and all the rest may be completely different characters, but they all share many of the same qualities that make them so easy to root for and identify with.
Perhaps much of the success surrounding "The Rings of Power" can be traced back to...

Endings: they're tough! Ask plenty of "Lord of the Rings" fans and they'll say that "Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King" had a perfect conclusion. But whenever I hear that, I think, "Which one?!" The film trilogy famously didn't seem to know how to say goodbye to the characters we'd grown to love so much, so it tacked on not one or two but at least four endings, if not more. The emotions of that trilogy's ending hit like waves, crashing into you one after another. This week's finale of "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power," on the other hand, kept its most emotional moment short and sweet – but it still hit like a tidal wave.
There were plenty of moments to love in "Alloyed," from the tricky, trippy, memory-hopping scenes between Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) and Sauron (Charlie Vickers) to the cheer-worthy moment when...

"The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power"'s first season features a pretty huge mystery that it finally reveals the answer to in the season finale. The first episode ends with a giant meteor sailing over Middle-earth and landing not far from where the Harfoots have made their camp. Nori Brandyfoot (Markella Kavenagh) and her friend Poppy Proudfellow (Megan Richards) travel to the site where the meteor crashed out of curiosity. There, they're met with a strange sight: at the center of the broken flaming meteor is a very tall man, played by Daniel Weyman.

It’s official: Amazon’s The Rings of Power has started filming its next season.
Production got underway on Monday at the new hub at Bray Studios just outside London.
The news follows the first official Nielsen ratings being released Thursday for the Prime Video series, showing The Rings of Power topped the streaming charts for its debut week with 1.3 billion minutes viewed (likely an Amazon series record given that only two hours were released).
The first season of the show was filmed in New Zealand over an epic stretch of 18 months during the pandemic. For season 2, which will consist of eight episodes, Amazon switched the show’s production to the U.K., which is considered more economical and is also where the company is establishing a multi-show hub.
The Rings of Power is approaching its seventh and penultimate episode of its debut season this week.

It was a good run, but after many pleasantly uneventful decades it would appear we need to add “Lord of the Rings” to the ever-growing list of toxic fandoms. What sent some “Rings of Power” viewers over the edge? Why, the inclusion of a few nonwhite characters, of course — what else? Just as “Star Wars” had to do earlier this year, the “Rings of Power” folks felt compelled to clarify that “Our world has never been all white, fantasy has never been all white, Middle-earth is not all white” in a message sent across the show’s social channels yesterday. The statement was Amazon’s response to the “relentless racism, threats, harassment, and abuse some of our castmates of color are being subjected to on a daily basis. We refuse to ignore it or tolerate it.”

The excitement leading into The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power was off the charts.
The highly-anticipated series, which is reportedly the most expensive TV show in history, got off the ground running with 25 million viewers in its first day.
Deadline reported the news, revealing that those numbers make it the best and biggest premiere in Prime Video's 15-year history.

The first two episodes of “The Rings of Power” have finally premiered on Prime Video, kicking off season 1 of the prequel series about the Second Age of Middle-earth about a time set several thousand years before the events of “The Lord of the Rings” and “The Hobbit”.
During this era of peace and prosperity, there are subtle signs of re-emerging evil as many characters’ lives come crashing together. Among them are the lumbering giant (Daniel Weyman), who crash lands on Middle-earth via a meteor, and the Harfoot, Elanor ‘Nori’ Brandyfoot (Markella Kavenagh), who discovers him.
Now that the first two episodes are streaming, both Weyman and Kavenagh address the many theories about the stranger’s true identify, including a popular one that he’s Gandalf, the wise and powerful wizard originally played by Sir Ian McKellen in Peter Jackson’s film adaptations of the novels. [Warning: Spoilers for the first two episodes of “The Rings of Power”.]

Spoiler Alert: The story includes details about Episode 2 of The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power.
The second episode of Prime Video’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power follows four different stories that weave in and out: Galadriel in the ocean, the Harfoots, the Southlanders and Elrond reuniting with Durin.
Starting right where Episode 1 left off, Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) is shown alone in the ocean as she starts swimming towards what we hope is land.
Thankfully, she finds a raft from a wreckage with some human survivors on it. Despite arguing amongst themselves, they agree to allow Galadriel aboard. However, the second they realize she’s an elf, they blame her for what happened to them and one of them pushes her off. This ends up saving her, though, as the beast who sank the humans’ ship destroys the raft, with only Galadriel and one human,...

To celebrate the hugely-anticipated release of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, which finally arrives on Amazon Prime Video this week, we had the pleasure of sitting down with its huge ensemble cast and showrunners to find out more.
Prime Video’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power brings to screens for the very first time the heroic legends of the fabled Second Age of Middle-earth’s history. This epic drama is set thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings books, and will take viewers back to an era in which great powers were forged, kingdoms rose to glory and fell to ruin, unlikely heroes were tested, hope hung by the finest of threads, and one of the greatest villains that ever flowed from Tolkien’s pen threatened to cover all the world in darkness.

“The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” is only days away, and the Amazon Prime Video series has earned mostly rave reviews with a few mixed reactions (and one flat-out pan) as critics returned to Middle-earth.
As Variety chief TV critic Caroline Framke wrote in her review: “It’s safe to say that Amazon throwing the weight of its coffers at this property has resulted in a perfectly winning adaptation that unfolds swashbuckling adventures with clear reverence and affection for the considerable mythos behind it.”

Prime Video wants all eyes on its highly-anticipated Lord of the Rings prequel, The Rings of Power.
The promotional train has been in overdrive for months, and now, we have an exciting new trailer.
The series is set thousands of years before any of the Hobbit or Lord of the Rings movies, so there's a great deal of skepticism about whether the story will be a worthy entry to the universe.
Galadriel takes center stage in the latest clip, showcasing battles, breathtaking locations, and a lot of drama.
Knowing very little about the story, the trailer is certainly a spectacle of what should be a lot of fun.
Prime Video has invested heavily in this universe, so they will want the series to land well with fans of the franchise.
We don't have long to wait, since the series premiere is set for September 2 around the world.

The showrunners of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power promise their fantasy drama for Prime Video will feature all new stories and is not “a reboot or a retread” of what J.R.R. Tolkien fans saw in the movies.
“This is a new story for most who are going to be watching it. We weren’t interested in a nostalgia play,” showrunner Patrick McKay said Friday at the TCA summer press tour. “We felt that this show had to earn its place on the start, rise or fall on its own merits. There are different stories that you’ve seen before.”
“This is before Frodo, before the rings, the time during which the rings of power were forged,” showrunner J.D. Payne added.
Premiering September 2, the series is set in the Second Age of Middle-earth — thousands of years before the events of the Lord of the Rings films and novels.

Lord of The Rings: The Rings of Power took to San Diego Comic-Con, giving fans much to talk about.
The highly-anticipated TV adaptation at Prime Video featured an orchestra and operatic chorus from composer Bear McCreary for the panel moderated by Stephen Colbert.

“It’s a story of hope and approaching darkness,” Colbert added, teasing that “this being Tolkien, it’s a story of loss.”

At long last, Sauron is here.
Prime Video dropped a brand new trailer for their upcoming (and wildly expensive) new series “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” Friday during the show’s Comic-Con panel in Hall H, and yes, this show will be tackling the original rise of Sauron.
The prequel series takes place during the Second Age of J.R.R. Tolkien’s expansive “Lord of the Rings” saga, thousands of years before the story of the “Fellowship of the Ring.” In that regard, it also charts the first time that Sauron rose to power.
We knew this, and yet previous trailers shied away from showing or even explicitly mentioning Sauron. That ends today. Ahead of the show’s panel at San Diego Comic-Con next week, Amazon Prime Video has unveiled a brand new trailer for the upcoming series “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” — and this show looks huge.
“There was a time when the world was so young,” the narration over the new trailer begins, alluding to the fact that this series takes place thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Hobbit” and “The Lord of the Rings.” The narration continues as a familiar theme from Howard Shore’s score from the “Lotr” films plays: “There had not yet been a sunrise, but even then there was light.”
But then we see snippets of some jaw-dropping battles, until we hit upon Galadriel – played in Peter Jackson’s acclaimed film trilogy by Cate Blanchett and played in this new series by Morfydd Clark – who has clearly been worn by battle.

Middle-earth is coming to Amazon Prime Video, and while all seems at peace, a gathering storm threatens to lay it all to waste.
That’s the general vibe for the latest teaser trailer for “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power,” which the streamer released on Thursday, giving viewers a more detailed look at Prime Video’s highly anticipated series set within J. R. R. Tolkien’s beloved fantasy world.
The two-and-a-half-minute preview focuses primarily on the two characters who also appear in Peter Jackson’s “The Lord of the Rings” film trilogy from the 2000s: Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) and Elrond (Robert Aramayo), as they debate Galadriel’s dogged belief that a shadowy enemy believed to be vanquished is still very much a looming threat. As Galadriel is considerably older than Elrond (he eventually marries her daughter), she does not find his assurances that he knows from darkness to be all that comforting.

“The Lord of the Rings” movie trilogy became one of the most popular movie trilogies ever and one with the most accolades. All the world knows the story of this epic drama from Middle-earth. The trilogy won a staggering seventeen Oscars and had thirteen other nominations. Now, an Amazon Prime Video series based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s work is coming out on a huge budget, so we wonder, can “Lotr: The Rings Of Power” succeed like the trilogy?
It’s doubtful that “Lotr: The Rings of Power” will have similar success as the trilogy. The cast members are not as well-known, and the characters are different, so nostalgic fans might miss the old crew. Still, it has a colossal budget and great source material, so it might surprise us all.

Prime Video is taking viewers back to Middle Earth.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power unveiled its first full-length trailer during NBC's Super Bowl telecast on Sunday.
The good news is that the series looks visually stunning, taking us back to Middle Earth in a blaze of glory.
While story details are scarce, the intent of the trailer was clearly to show that there are still plenty of stories to be told in the universe.
Morfydd Clark’s Galadriel is the commander of the Northern Armies and a bearer of one of the Rings of Power.
We also see Half-elf Elrond (Robert Aramayo), a politically ambitious leader and the eventual founder of the elven realm of Rivendell.
This epic drama is set thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, and will take viewers back to...

Amazon has unveiled via social media a very quick teaser for a teaser. It reveals (cryptically) that Amazon Studios will debut the (real) first teaser trailer for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power during Super Bowl Lvi, this Sunday, February 13. You can see the show’s Instagram post below.
The announcement follows Amazon’s tease-reveal of character posters last week, showing only cast members’ torsos and hands.
The series is set in the Second Age of Middle-earth — thousands of years before the events of the Lord of the Rings films and the novels. The series brings to screens for the very first time J.R.R. Tolkien’s fabled Second Age of Middle-earth’s history. Beginning in a time of relative peace, the series follows an ensemble cast of characters, both familiar and new, as they confront the long-feared re-emergence of evil to Middle-earth.
Headlining the ensemble cast are Cynthia Addai-Robinson,...

You can tell a lot about a person based on their hands, at least that’s what Amazon’s “Lord of the Rings” series is hoping. The highly anticipated fantasy series, officially titled “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power,” released a series of 23 posters on Thursday, giving fans a glimpse at the cast of Middle-earth characters, but sadly only their hands.
But what secrets do those 23 pairs of hands hold? Well, nearly every character is holding something, whether it’s a weapon, an apple, a flower, acorns, rope or a scroll. Some of them aren’t even holding anything, instead opting to clasp their hands in a stoic pose or wrap their arms carefully around their waist.
The character posters also give a good look at each person’s clothing, and each outfit seems ripped from the pages of J.R.R. Tolkien. There are ornate robes, intimidating pieces of armor,...
