He is Métis (Swiss-German and Mohawk).
His father was of Swiss descent and his mother was of English-Mohawk descent.
He has played the Lakota Sioux chief Sitting Bull in three otherwise unrelated productions:
Witness to Yesterday (1973)

Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee (2007)

Of all the characters he has portrayed, Sitting Bull is his favorite.
