The Biggest Twists in House MD, Ranked
Image
House MD continues to be one of the most memorable and groundbreaking medical dramas, even over a decade after the show's finale. House introduced the Sherlock Holmes-inspired Doctor Gregory House and his unique view of the world and relationships, as well as his struggles with addiction. And from then on, House earned a loyal following that enjoyed the medical puzzles, dramatic moments, and shocking twists.

Some of the most shocking twists in House are still talked about today. From unexpected deaths or reveals that challenged what audiences believed to be true to surprising turns and revelations about the patients themselves, House MD always knew how to keep audiences guessing. The best and most unexpected twists dealt both with the main characters, such as House, Cuddy, Wilson, or House's team, as well as the patients and medical mysteries. And the biggest twists in House MD stand out for being shocking...

10 Wildly Unethical House MD Moments That Should've Ended Dr. House's Career (But Didn't)
Image
House MD broke the mold with its protagonist, Gregory House. While other TV doctors are celebrated for their impeccable bedside manner, House was appreciated for his cruel method of diagnosing rare diseases. As such, patients were not entirely keen on his mannerisms, but he still managed to save their lives.

It's also astounding that Princeton-Plainsboro has allowed House to work for so long. Even though he's a fantastic doctor, he often does more harm than good to get to the bottom of a case. Thus, while Dr. House is a key part of the hospital, his methods are entirely unethical.

Dr. House Offers a Janitor a Promotion Season 4, Episode 1, "Alone"

With his team gone, Dr. House struggled to get things done, especially since he wasn't concerned about admin or patient welfare. Thus, he decided to create a make-shift team that could do his dirty work. In "Alone," he gives one...

The Funniest Episodes of House MD That Still Make Fans Laugh
Image
At the surface level, House MD is one of the best medical dramas in history. The Diagnostics Team at Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital explores some of the world's unusual cases and strives to find the most suitable treatment. But with the likes of Hugh Laurie and Robert Sean Leonard in the main cast, it wouldn't be wrong to also consider this show to be a comedy.

House MD isn't afraid to blend the lines between comedy and tragedy and often sprinkles in a touch of black humor to keep the audience on their toes. Although the jokes are often distasteful and sometimes crass, they help to emphasize Gregory's sardonic sense of humor. Thus, without its funnier moments, House MD just wouldn't be as popular.

House and Wilson Create an Interesting Bet Season 7, Episode 19, "Last Temptation"

House's relationship with Wilson is incredibly complex, but "Last Temptation" showcases a lighter moment between the two men.

10 Actors Who Left TV Shows At Exactly The Right Time
Image
Certain television shows have seen characters come and go throughout their series runs. Some had left in order to make way for fresh stories and new blood, others had left a big hole in the cast that was unable to be filled. The reasoning behind actors' departures can be very varied. For some, it's moving on to another project, or the prospect of a glittering movie career, like George Clooney in E.R. Some get their spin-off shows, and are part of expanding the universe and telling more stories, like David Boreanaz in Angel. Others have to leave due to scandals.

Whatever the reason may be for an actor departing a successful TV show, the viewers are always the ones to feel the brunt of it. For better or worse, audiences are the ones left to pick up the pieces after the character is gone. This could result in an exciting renaissance for the show,...

The Weirdest Medical Cases in House, Ranked
Image
House successfully pushed against many of the medical dramas seen at the time, focusing on the most rare and unusual cases the world had ever seen. While shows like E.R. were dependent on scary events like crashes or accidents, House worked to transform the most ordinary examples into some of the most gripping television ever shown. As such, even 12 years after its finale, it's still regarded as one of the most intense dramas in history.

But, with so many weird and whacky cases, it can be hard for fans to wrap their heads around a lot of the terminology. Plus, since a lot of these medical cases are accompanied by a ton of obscure symptoms, it makes it even more difficult for viewers to understand the severity of the situation. Thus, it's important that fans uncover the weirdest cases so that they can really understand just how unique this show is.

Death Warrant: Revisiting Jcvd’s Forgotten Prison Flick
Image
1990 was a peak year for Van Damage. The Muscles from Brussels was on the way to the big time after Bloodsport and Kickboxer (which made our list of the Best Fighting Movies) proved to be huge moneymakers at the box office. But, Jean-Claude Van Damme was different from some of his contemporaries because he was a hearthrob and a prime butt-kicker. His 1990 movie Lionheart was bought for distribution by Universal, paving the way to his breaking into mainstream studio work. But, before he could jump on that gravy train, he had one more movie left to make on his Cannon movie deal – but ironically, the company itself would not release the film theatrically due to its waning fortunes, with this being Van Damme’s first major studio release after MGM opted to distribute it. The movie? Death Warrant!

In this one, Jcvd plays a cop named Burke, who, after putting...

Drive-In Dust Offs: Alien Predators (1985)
Like most folk, I’m a sucker for alien invasion films; I’m also down with conspiracy flicks, and I love seeing beautiful photography in foreign lands. If only there was a horror film that combines these somewhat disparate elements into a cohesive, satisfying whole. I honestly can’t think of one; but there is Alien Predators (1985), a pretty damn fun and nonsensical trip through Spain.

Filmed in ’84 and released on video in the U.K. in August of ’85, Alien Predators saw a very brief theatrical U.S. run in February of ’87 before being dumped onto video shelves for curious horror fans…like myself; as that’s when I first saw it, and I remember digging its pleasant nature and sparse but effective effects. A recent revisit however disclosed its greatest asset: a make-it-up-as-we-go willingness on the part of writer/director Deran Sarafian (Terminal Velocity) that results in a freewheeling travelogue with Nasa espionage,...

James Wan Will Reportedly Co-Direct The Swamp Thing Pilot Episode!
Update: James Wan's publicist reached out to us to say that James Wan will not be co-directing or directing Swamp Thing. Kind of a bummer because I'd love to see him get to play with this character, but I guess that's not gonna happen.

Here's the original article:

When it was announced that James Wan (Aquaman, The Conjuring, Insidious) would be producing DC Entertainment's upcoming Swamp Thing series, I hoped that he would jump in to direct an episode or two. Well, according to That Hashtag Show, it looks like that might actually be the case!

The report says that Wan will co-direct the pilot episode with alongside Deran Sarafian. Sarafian has over 20 years of television experience and directed episodes of iconic series such as Buffy the Vampire Slayer, House and Fringe.

Both of these talents working together could end up delivering a hell of a great pilot episode.

Blu-ray Review: Zombi 3 (1988)
I’ve been in love with the work of Italian horror legend Lucio Fulci since the age of ten, when I saw his undead classic Zombie (1979); from the smiling undead VHS box art to the creeping, gory grey dread contained within, I was hooked. That was the movie easy to find at the boom of the video era, as it was a big hit and everyone stocked it; but further success eluded his work on North American shores, and the horror buff had to scrounge and scour to find his releases. (Except for The Gates of Hell; that one did make it over.) Nearly ten years after his biggest hit, he was set to make a triumphant return to gut munching glory. The result? Zombi 3 (1988), a wonderfully batshit half a Fulci lovingly restored by the demented folks at Severin Films, who continue to drag the underseen into the light for seasoned collectors and neophytes alike.

New Promo Video for The Strain Season 4 Features Ominous Partnership
Ahead of its premiere on FX this summer, the fourth and final season of The Strain is teased in a new promo video that focuses on the seemingly sunny yet undeniably dangerous partnership between the living and the undead.

You can check out the previous press release and promo video below, and in case you missed it, we have details on the upcoming DVD release of The Strain Season 3.

Previous Press Release (via Seat42F): The Strain will return for a fourth and final season in Summer 2017, as Carlton Cuse, Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan bring the thriller to its climatic conclusion, it was announced today by Nick Grad and Eric Schrier, Presidents of Original Programming, FX Networks and FX Productions.

FX Renews The Strain For Fourth And Final Season
There was a lot of buzz when The Strain first hit on FX, largely due to the fact that Guillermo del Toro was involved in something on television. The show has held audiences in its grip as its world became increasingly desperate, and while perhaps not quite at the top of the ratings juggernaut list, it has performed well for the network.

The series has been renewed for a fourth and final season, and while that may seem like an odd “renewing and canceling at the same time” move, that’s not really the case, and fans shouldn’t see it as a negative by any means.

As Carlton Cuse, exec. producer/writer, said in the renewal announce, the plan was originally for a story that spanned three seasons. As things became fleshed out during the creation of those three seasons, it ultimately became apparent that the best version would run four seasons,...

The Strain, Ep. 1.11, “The Third Rail” wishes you congrats on the vampire apocalypse
The Strain, Season 1, Episode 11, “The Third Rail”

Written by Justin Britt-Gibson & Chuck Hogan

Directed by Deran Sarafian

Airs Sundays at 10pm Est on FX

Let’s start this week by talking about Eph. No one particularly wants to, but he’s still our ostensible hero, and that has become The Strain‘s most consistent and scarring flaw. The first mistake the writers make this episode is to spend it pitting Eph against Fet in something that isn’t much more than a dick measuring contest, and one in which everyone is undoubtedly on Fet’s side. And it’s a colossal hindrance to the show that we can’t tell whose side we’re supposed to be on. We can’t tell if we’re supposed to see Eph as our great hero, or if this is some subtle takedown of the arrogant straight white male leader trope.

But even...

Complete Buffy reviews: Killed By Death
Flu. What's all that about then? As if this time of year isn't rubbish enough, the late Autumn and Winter seasons always seem to give you the gift of the snotty, phlegmy flu. While chemists have good cause to celebrate, the rest of us are confined to bed with copious amounts of tissues, hot water bottles and those funny medicines that taste like edible hell.

Buffy, superheroine that she may be, has nevertheless succumbed to this infernal condition. It's understandable, given that she's not at her peak. Her ex has turned psycho and has killed her friend's girlfriend. These are not peppy times for Buffy. So naturally, while fighting Angelus and phlegm, Buffy is for once, floored by the latter evil. Cue a trip to the local hospital, which naturally turns out to be a haven for a child-killing monster. No place in Sunnydale is safe, it seems. The local...

Hemlock Grove (2013)
Netflix Gives “Hemlock Grove” A Second Season
Hemlock Grove (2013)
Not sure if this qualifies as good or bad news, but Netflix has ordered another season of Hemlock Grove. The horror series from Eli Roth and Brian McGreevy was all over the place, garnering mixed reviews and a cult following since it debuted all of its episodes on April 19th. It was equal parts crap, bewildering, awesome and fun and more crap, all at once. Check out my live blog for my thoughts.

Netflix is ordering 10 episodes, 3 less than the original 13 allotment from season 1, which is probably a good thing for my liver. They’ve also added Chic Eglee on as an executive producer, who’s worked on Dexter, The Shield and The Walking Dead, so that’s surely good news. Mark Verheiden and Deran Sarafian, on the other hand, are leaving the show.

Here’s what Eli Roth had to say about the announcement: ”The worldwide fan response to ‘Hemlock Grove’ was phenomenal…...

Netflix Interested in Hemlock Grove Season 2
If you enjoyed the first season of Hemlock Grove, there’s a good chance that a second season will go into development. Netflix’s chief content officer, Ted Sarandos, recently spoke to THR about the possibility of a second season: “We’re hearing the pitches for the second season with plotlines and storylines now.”

Regarding the mixed reaction that the series received from horror fans, Sarandos talked about who the show appealed to: ”Hemlock is much more polarizing; you either love it or hate it. The crossover for the people who love the show was American Horror Story, not The Vampire Diaries. It was incredibly popular in the Nordics because of the popularity of the Skarsgards [Bill Skarsgard stars] and in Latin America, where the horror genre is very big… The other thing I look at is the tween segment. Hemlock Grove is horror, but it’s not really CW horror; it’s much more adult than that.

On the Set of Hemlock Grove: Interviews With the Cast & Crew
Hemlock Grove isn’t like most small communities. When a teenage girl is murdered, two boys - Roman Godrey (Bill Skarsgard), the spoiled and possibly vampiric heir to the Godfrey estate, and Peter Rumancek (Landon Liboiron), a gypsy traveler and werewolf – step up to solve the shocking crime. As the investigation unfolds, though, the steel town’s deep, dark secrets come to light. Nothing is as it seems and the lines quickly begin to blur over whether Hemlock Grove’s monsters are supernatural – or just really twisted humans.

Hemlock Gove is the second original series from Netflix, which has now made 13 episodes available. The show is based on the novel of the same name by Brian McGreevy, who serves as the series' writer and executive producer. Hostel’s horror maverick, Eli Roth, is also an executive producer, and obviously has an exuberant passion and enthusiasm for the genre.

“What Eli brings is such a great,...

'Hemlock Grove': Darkness Is Coming
Hemlock Grove (2013)
At the foot of a sweeping grand staircase in the foyer of an imposing early 20th century mansion, Famke Janssen is stoically explaining what's going to happen next to Bill Skarsgard as he fights back tears.

The two are filming a scene of "Hemlock Grove," the epic new Netflix series helmed by horror-master Eli Roth. The show is based on Brian McGreevy's novel of the same name, and follows two teenage boys (Skarsgard and "Degrassi" alum Landon Liboiron) at the center of a murder mystery in a creepy small town full of supernatural elements.

Its horror-esque approach and broad mix of supernatural beings may sound a lot like "True Blood" (which stars Skarsgard's older brother Alexander), but "Hemlock" is carving its own path. "We started by casting an entirely different Skarsgard," jokes McGreevy, who serves as an executive producer on the show.

Janssen plays Skarsgard's mother, the matriarch of...

Inside Hemlock Grove: Scoop from executive producers Eli Roth, Mark Verheiden, Lee Shipman, director Deran Sarafian, and author Brian McGreevy
Creating a horror television show is a tricky feat. It requires balancing the right amount of shock-and-gore along with compelling characters to keep fans clamoring for more – and Netflix’s Hemlock Grove delivers on both. Helmed by horror master Eli Roth and based on the terrifying world created in Brian McGreevly’s book, Hemlock Grove weaves together characters that raise the hair on the back of your neck yet draw you in deeper and deeper into a supernatural mystery story.

When a young teenage girl is found mauled to death, fear and suspicions abound as a gypsy boy (Landon Liboiron) is rumored to be a werewolf. Peter and his mother (Lili Taylor) had recently moved to Hemlock Grove in hopes of settling there after his uncle’s death; but their heritage makes them unwelcome in a community that seeks to keep its deep, dark secrets buried. Reigning over the town...

Executive Producer Eli Roth and Director Deran Sarafian Talk Hemlock Grove, Adapting the Book, the Show’s Mythology, and More at WonderCon
Hemlock Grove, based on Brian McGreevy’s novel of the same name, puts a spin on the current trend of werewolves and vampires, replacing love triangles with body parts and unconsummated longing with raunchy, bloody sex. The story picks up in the small town of Hemlock Grove following a string of grisly murders when new boy in town, Peter Rumancek, gypsy trailer trash and rumored werewolf, comes under suspicion for the crime. Peter finds an unlikely ally in Roman Godfrey, golden boy of the wealthy and influential Godfrey estate, Hemlock Grove’s resident wealthy philanthropists in the model of the Carnegies. Together the pair attempts to solve the mystery of the murder before the killer can strike again. The show stars Famke Janssen, Dougray Scott, Lili Taylor, and Bill Skarsgard, Landon Liboiron. Shortly before the WonderCon panel (here's my recap), executive producer Eli Roth and director Deran Sarafian sat down for a roundtable interview.
