May the 4th be with you.

Every year on this say, Star Wars fans the world over show their appreciation for all things Galaxy Far, Far Away, and Lucasfilm has now joined the celebration by releasing an all-new montage of footage from every movie, live-action and animated series in the saga.

The video cleverly mashes-up footage and dialogue from all three movie trilogies, as well as the likes of The Mandalorian, Andor, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Star Wars Rebels, Visions, Skeleton Crew, and more.

We haven't seen Star Wars on the big screen since The Rise of Skywalker, but that will soon change. In addition to Shawn Levy's Star Wars: Starfighter, Lucasfilm has Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy's untitled Rey-focused movie, James Mangold's Dawn of the Jedi (probably not the official title), and Dave Filoni's "Mandoverse" crossover event in the works.

It didn’t begin a long time ago or in a galaxy far far away, but every May 4 it feels like images, memes and promotional deals involving Star Wars have an inescapable gravity.

May 4 — or May the 4th, as fans say — has evolved over the years into Star Wars Day, an informal holiday celebrating the space epic and its surrounding franchise.

What is Star Wars Day?

Star Wars Day was created by fans as a sly nod to one of the films’ most popular catchphrases, “May the force be with you.” Get it? Good, now May the 4th be with you, too.

It’s not an official holiday but has become so well-known that even former President Joe Biden marked it last year when Star Wars actor Mark Hamill dropped by the White House a day beforehand. This year, the Trump administration marked the occasion with a Star Wars-themed meme.

The Ewok movies, Caravan of Courage and Ewoks: The Battle for Endor, bring more fantasy elements into the Star Wars universe, blurring the line between science fiction and fantasy. Charal, a sorceress and one of the main villains in Ewoks: The Battle for Endor, could potentially be reintroduced into the Star Wars canon through the rise of the Dathomiri and the Nightsisters. The Ewok duology doesn't have to be recanonized, but characters like Charal could still be adapted to fit within the current canon, similar to how Grand Admiral Thrawn was adapted.

Caravan of Courage: An Ewok Adventure and Ewoks: The Battle for Endor are often overlooked. However, this made-for-television duology incorporates more magic and mysticism into Star Wars’ space opera universe, making the franchise truly a blend of science fiction and fantasy.

A screen-used Darth Vader helmet, along with other Star Wars memorabilia, was stolen from J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot offices in Santa Monica. 38-year old Frank Hebert (not to be confused with the iconic Dune author), was arrested early Monday morning when caught with the goods in a shopping cart. According to Santa Monica law enforcement, Bad Robot surveillance video shows Herbert on the premises and then leaving with his shopping cart filled to the brim. Herbert allegedly got up on to the roof and broke into the offices from there.

After getting into the Bad Robot offices, Frank Herbert took a screen-used Darth Vader helmet and a Storm Trooper helmet, along with some other items that were seen on the big screen in various Star Wars movies. Law enforcement says that Herbert "casually" walked out of the building with his shopping cart, though he was located soon after. Herbert...

Rancho Obi-Wan is a non-profit organization that donates money from tours to charity and it's run by Stephen J. Sansweet. The owner of the largest Star Wars memorabilia collection and museum in the world stated on Monday that he had several items stolen from him. 

Steve Sansweet, president and CEO of the nonprofit Rancho Obi-Wan in Northern California, wrote on his website that from late 2015 through 2016, there were 100 pieces taken from his collection, some of which were then resold.

The world’s largest collection of Star Wars memorabilia is officially one for the record books, and it belongs to a former journalist who once worked for Lucasfilm. For the first time in its 58-year history, Guinness World Records has included the category in its latest book, which was released Thursday. The collection consists of roughly 300,000 toys, pinball machines, action figures and other Star Wars-related stuff, though only about a third of the collection has been audited. I used to be a huge Star Wars collector. There was a time where I would sit outside of stores like Target and Toys R Us the days they got new shipments in to make sure I could get the action figures I was looking to add to my collection. Following in the footsteps of his longtime friend and collaborator George Lucas, it looks like Star Wars producer Rick McCallum is quietly retiring from Lucasfilm as well. In fact, that should actually be said in the past tense as LucasFilm team member Steve Sansweet announced on ForceCast (via The Playlist) that McCallum has actually already retired from LucasFilm. That tidbit went unnoticed in the frenzy of excitement the day after Disney announced their purchase of Lucasfilm and announced Star Wars: Episode VII for release in 2015. Looks like we're entering a whole new era for Lucasfilm and Star Wars. With Lucas and McCallum no longer steering the ship, this means that Kathleen Kennedy is probably inheriting all their Star Wars duties. This includes everything from the anticipated new trilogy of films to the "Clone Wars" TV series (expected to move from Cartoon Network to a Disney channel after this fifth season...

Chances are if the recent shifts in Lucasfilm's administration prove a final blow to George Lucas' overall involvement, it is producer Rick McCallum that has primed that impression for years now. Since the “Star Wars” Special Editions onward, McCallum has slowly grown into the company's most vocal member -- appearing at conventions and answering press to drum up interest -- but now in the midst of Disney's $4 billion deal, it appears the central force in Lucas' camp has filed his most crucial decision. Just one day after the groundbreaking Disney agreement, it was Lucasfilm's director of content management and fan relations, Steve Sansweet, who announced (via East Valley Tribune) on the official ForceCast podcast that McCallum is now “retired from LucasFilm,” another surprising move in a series of many. The reasons for his departure were not confirmed, but given that in May of this year, McCallum was still highly involved in.

Note: I wrote this blog several months ago, when Lucasfilm's Steve Sansweet first revealed plans were in place to finally bring the "Star Wars" series to high definition Blu-ray. At the time I ran through a range of deleted scenes that we might expect/hope to see on the eventual release. Since there's an official release timeframe now, I thought it would be useful to re-post this blog for your reading enjoyment.

If you read this blog with any regularity, then you know that one thing I absolutely cannot pass on is an opportunity to talk about "Star Wars." The news today is a doozy too. At long last, Lucasfilm has confirmed that the series -- both the more recent prequels and the classic original trilogy -- will get a high definition Blu-ray release.

Darth Maul ended up marrying the couple, Darth Vader was the best man, R2-kt was the flower girl, Adrianne Curry was the Maid of Honor, Lucasfilm’s Director of Fan Relations Steve Sansweet gave Bonnie away and Stormtrooper Elvis even showed up!

Artist Ralph McQuarrie played a huge role in helping George Lucas bring the Star Wars universe to life through his concept art. Without this artists contribution to Star Wars, we would have seen a much different film. We've seen a lot of Star Wars concept art throughout the years, and it looks like there are still a few pieces out there that we haven't seen yet.

We thought that we had seen all of Ralph's Star Wars work here at Lucasfilm—literally hundreds of production paintings, matte paintings and sketches, all carefully photographed, inventoried and preserved," said Steve Sansweet, the Lucasfilm director of content management and head of fan relations. It was inevitable that sometime Lucasfilm would get around to confirming that a Blu-ray special edition of all six Star Wars movies is being worked on. That confirmation finally arrived this past weekend at the Chicago Comics and Entertainment Expo (C2E2) from Steve Sansweet, the company's director of publicity.

Speaking to the audience at a Star Wars panel, Sansweet said (courtesy of IGN), "We have been at work for a couple of years working on—I won't call it the Ultimate Set because we keep finding stuff—but, a very full set of all six movies on Blu-ray with lots of extra material. We're finding all kinds of scenes from dailies that have never been seen before. Beyond all of those things that you know about… there are some real treasures." No Eta was given for when we would have to open up our wallets.

Are you ready for a sequel to The Return Of The Jedi?

At the Anaheim Comic-Con this past weekend, Steve Sansweet, the Official Spokesperson for LucasFilm, announced that there is a forthcoming sequel to Rotj coming in animated form.

The exact quote, in response to a fan asking for new adventures with favorite characters from the original trilogy was: "And you will, in the new animation."

Some of you might be puzzling, as there was news a few weeks back that LucasFilm had commissioned a new comedy series from the guys behind Robot Chicken, set in the Star Wars universe. At the moment, no one is quite sure if Sansweets' comment refers to the comedy series or a completely new animated dramatic series that will carry on the adventures.

I'm not really in favor of either one.

The Star Wars saga is on its way to Blu-ray with a whole galaxy of extra material, it's been revealed.

Steve Sansweet, director of fan relations for Lucasfilm, confirmed the news at C2E2 - the Chicago Comics and Entertainment Expo.

According to IGN, Sansweet said: "We have been at work for a couple of years working on - I won't call it the Ultimate Set because we keep finding stuff - but, a very full set of all six movies on Blu-ray with lots of extra material.

"We're finding all kinds of scenes from dailies that have never been seen before. Beyond all of those things that you know about... there are some real treasures."

As for the release date, he added: "We're not ready to announce exactly when it's coming out, but it won't be in the too distant future."

You didn't have to be some intergalactic genius to predict that the Star Wars films would eventually hit Blu-ray. Dedicated Screen Rant readers might recall that in his 10 Movies That Need a Blu-ray Release editorial just a few weeks back, our own Mike Eisenberg rightly called out Star Wars creator George Lucas for scuffling his feet on the matter of the Star Wars Saga’s Blu-ray release.

Well, according to Lucasfilm Director of Fan Relations Steve Sansweet, the Blu-ray edition of all six of the Star Wars films is in the works after all, though he declined on giving an official release date.

Sansweet made the following comments on the subject at C2E2 over this past weekend:

“We have been at work for a couple of years working on—I won’t call it the Ultimate Set because we keep finding stuff—but, a very full set of all six movies on Blu-ray with lots of extra material. We’re finding all kinds…

Over the weekend at Chicago's comic book convention C2E2, Lucasfilm's Director of Fan Relations Steve Sansweet revealed that a "very full set of all six movies on Blu-ray with lots of extra material" is in the works.

Although Sansweet didn't divulge any other details, looking at past Star Wars releases, here's what we'd expect:

-- Both versions of the original films. George Lucas angered fans by only releasing "special edition" versions of the films where he added new scenes and special effects. Fans would only get the original theatrical release on DVD years later. Let's hope he doesn't make us wait again.

-- New Commentary. We'd hope for new comments from George Lucas and co. It'd be nice to get Mark Hammill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford to comment on the original three films.

-- New deleted scenes, animatics and production stills/images. There never seems to be...

So that new Star Wars animated series that LucasFilm is putting together might have shades of a Return of the Jedi sequel. We already knew it was going to be a comedy; that's why they went out and got the Robot Chicken guys. But this is something else entirely.

The news came from IGN at Chicago's C2E2 convention, where LucasFilm's Steve Sansweet answered a question about the original characters. "I would really love to see new adventures after Jedi with our favorite characters Luke, Han and Leia," the attendee suggested.

"And you will," Sansweet replied, "in the new animation."...

Star Wars animated series may take place after Return of the Jedi A few weeks ago we reported that a brand new Star Wars animated TV series was moving forward with Seth Green and now some new details seem to indicate the series will be a sequel to the final film in the franchise. IGN is reporting that LucasFilm's Steve Sansweet seemed to reveal that this new series will take place after the events of the film Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi.

During the Q&A section of the panel, a fan said, "I would really love to see new adventures after Jedi with our favorite characters Luke, Han and Leia," to which Sansweet replied, "And you will, in the new animation."

We reported earlier this month that LucasFilm is developing a new Star Wars TV series, which would be an animated comedy. During a Q&A session at C2E2 on Saturday Steve Sansweet, LucasFilm’s Director of Fan Relations, revealed that this new animated series would feature the post-Return of the Jedi adventures of the original characters. It happened when a fan asked, “I would really love to see new adventures after Jedi with our favorite characters Luke, Han and Leia,” to which Sansweet replied, “And you will, in the new animation.” (via IGN)

This is news which will probably make many fans glad and many other fans quite worried. Given what Lucas did to Obi-Wan, R2-D2, C-3Po and Yoda in the the prequels, I wish that he would just leave Luke, Han and Leia alone.

As SciFi Mafia reported to you earlier this month, an animated “Star Wars” television comedy series is being developed with the “Robot Chicken” creative team. Who will this new TV series follow? Sansweet indicated that the new animated series will follow the original cast of “Star Wars” post “Return of the Jedi”.

Lucasfilms is working with Seth Green and Matthew Senreich of “Robot Chicken” along with producer and daytime Emmy and Gemini Award winner Jennifer Hill (“The Backyardians”), director Todd Grimes (“Back at the Barnyard”), and writer Brendan Hay (“The Daily Show”).

Following Fox's decision to release the Alien saga in a new Blu-ray edition this fall, it's been confirmed that the Star Wars saga is coming to Blu-ray in 2011. We don't usually cover home video releases here at Script-to-Screen, but we feel like we have to make an exception for "Star Wars." At the Chicago Comics and Entertainment Expo over the weekend, Lucasfilm Director of Fan Relations, Steve Sansweet, offered up some information about the "Star Wars" films coming to Blu-ray.

Lucasfilm's PR rep Steve Sansweet revealed on the weekend that a Blu-ray boxset of the six "Star Wars" movies is currently being worked on and the release "won’t be in the too distant future" he tells IGN.

Sansweet claims work on the set has been underway for several years and will be filled with lots of extra material including "all kinds of scenes from dailies that have never been seen before."

Sansweet refused to mention a release date, but The Digital Bits claims a rough target of October 2011 is on the cards.

Meanwhile Best of Luck has hinted that the upcoming CG animated sitcom set in the 'Wars' universe that Seth Green and Matthew Seinreich are developing will be set in a post-"Return of the Jedi" time period.
