‘Lilo & Stitch’ First Reactions Praise Film as ‘Heartfelt’ and ‘Easily the Best Disney Live-Action Remake Yet’
Image
“Lilo & Stitch,” Disney’s latest live-action remake, has been revealed to select members of the press, and the first reactions to the film are overwhelmingly positive.

Critic Wendy Lee Szany wrote on X, “Lilo and Stitch is the best Disney live-action to date. Seeing Stitch in his live-action form on the big screen brings on a huge wave of nostalgia. Tons of laughter and heartwarming moments. The film hits similar beats to the original, as well added something new flavors.”

Journalist Laura Sirikul wrote on X, “Lilo and Stitch was heartwarming & really gave the official film more depth to Lilo & Nani. Maia Kealoha is a Star! The Stitch was so well made. I never imagined in 23 years they’d be able to merge animation w/ live action this well. It was magical. Very sweet.”

The original “Lilo & Stitch” was released in 2002, making this the most recent animated movie...

4 Reasons Why I Am Excited to Watch ‘Lilo & Stitch’
Image
For me, Lilo & Stitch (2002) isn’t just a movie, it’s a core memory. From chaos and wholesomeness, to bawling over “ohana means family”—it just feels like pure magic. So, when I heard Disney’s cooking up a live-action remake in 2025, to bring back the menacing alien and the quirky queen, I was basically mind-blown.

I mean, imagine all that wild energy with real beaches, upgraded visuals, and maybe even better Elvis Presley vibes. I seriously have high hopes for this film, which I believe is poised to be iconic for four reasons. One of them is obviously Stitch’s return in live-action to cause more mayhem. Duh! So, buckle up—it’s about to get Experiment 626-level wild.

1. The story is evergreen with potential

If I’m being honest, people often talk about family-oriented Disney films, and yet somehow skip Lilo & Stitch. Like I’ve heard people discussing Moana,...

Pedro Pascal's 96% Rotten Tomatoes Animated Classic Is Coming to Netflix Soon
Image
One of the most surprising box office hits is coming to the biggest streamer in the world soon. Every year, a few movies fly under the radar until their release before exploding at the box office and earning well over their budgets. In 2024, one of the biggest examples of this was The Wild Robot, which earned over $330 million globally and extended its legs for months in theaters. Once The Wild Robot wrapped up its theatrical run, it began streaming on Peacock, the home for all of Universal Pictures' new movies. However, Netflix has announced that The Wild Robot will begin streaming on the platform next Saturday, May 24. The animated film stars Pedro Pascal (The Last of Us) and earned nearly flawless scores of 96% from critics and 98% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes.

The Wild Robot follows Roz, an intelligent robot who is stranded on an uninhabited island after a shipwreck. To survive,...

Disney Re-released Its Controversial Snow White Movie (& The Results Weren't Good)
Image
Disney's theatrical re-release of the controversial Snow White movie starring Rachel Zegler likely didn't go as planned. It only managed to earn a mere $252 per screen.

Per The Telegraph, Disney decided to re-release Snow White theatrically due to the arrival of the summer blockbuster season, hoping that the film, which greatly underperformed in its original run, might fare better. Unfortunately, the movie, which had been marred by controversy before it even arrived in theaters, did worse the second time around. After its re-release in 1,000 cinemas across the United States, it averaged $252 per person, with a reported total of $335,000.

With its production budget being north of $240 million, it is one of Disney's most expensive films to date, but it has grossed only $204 million worldwide. It remains to be seen if the studio will be able to salvage some of its losses withSnow White's digital release on May 13. A Blu-ray and DVD...

Lilo & Stitch's Experiment 626 Has Trashed *The New Avengers Billboard In Los Angeles
Image
Earlier this week, Marvel Studios rebranded Thunderbolts* as *The New Avengers, a clever marketing stunt that should help increase interest heading into its second weekend in theaters.

The studio has reissued the movie's posters with the updated title and, in Los Angeles, gave Thunderbolts*'s massive billboard a new look. Alas, those of you hoping to perhaps see it in person will be disappointed as it's just been hijacked by Lilo & Stitch's Experiment 626!

As you can see below, Stitch has torn his way through the New Avengers, promoting the release of his movie later this month. Disney will likely pull out all the stops to promote Lilo & Stitch from here, especially as it's tracking to make upwards of $120 million over Memorial Day weekend.

Stitch will even take a bite out of Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning's haul, despite it taking aim at a franchise best $80 million debut.

Lilo & Stitch has set multiple records during the first day of its advance ticket sales. The Disney live-action movie is a remake of their 2002 animated release of the same name, which was nominated for the Oscar for Best Animated Feature. It will follow young Hawaiian girl Lilo (Maia Kealoha) befriending a chaotic blue alien creature named Stitch (Chris Sanders) after he crash lands on Earth. The upcoming Lilo & Stitch was directed by Marcel the Shell with Shoes On's Dean Fleischer Camp and also stars Sydney Elizebeth Agudong, Billy Magnussen, Hannah Waddingham, Zach Galifianakis, and Courtney B. Per Deadline, Lilo & Stitch has earned the most first-day ticket presales for a PG-rated movie of the year so far on Fandango. How To Train Your Dragon’s Hiccup ‘Really Shaped Who I Was As A Kid’, Says Mason Thames
Image
For a generation of film lovers, How To Train Your Dragon was a franchise that grew alongside them in their youth. The animated trilogy, directed by Dean DeBlois (joined by Chris Sanders on the first film), began in 2010 and closed out with The Hidden World in 2019 – a period during which those who associated with young hero Hiccup also went from childhood to young adulthood. Now, DeBlois is adapting the films into live-action, set to bring a whole new generation of fans into the world of dragons, vikings, and the Isle Of Berk. And its new Hiccup, The Black Phone’s Mason Thames, was one of those whose adolescence unfolded alongside Dragon’s protagonist.

“It really shaped who I was as a kid, just like a lot of people who watched it growing up,” Thames tells Empire of the series. He wasn’t just a casual fan either. “I was Hiccup for Halloween,...

Lilo And Stitch: Disney Shares Heartwarming First Clip And New Posters As Tickets Go On Sale
Image
Walt Disney Studios has announced that tickets for the live-action Lilo & Stitch movie are now officially on sale, and we have the first full clip and a series of new posters featuring the rambunctious blue-furred alien known as "Experiment 626."

The original animated Lilo and Stitch focused on a young Hawaiian girl named Lilo Pelekai who forms a bond with an adorable extraterrestrial called Experiment 626, who was engineered to be a force of destruction. It wasn't considered one of the studio's bigger hits from a box office standpoint, but it remains a very popular entry in Disney's library, having spawned three direct-to-video sequels and a 2003 TV series.

The new movie's synopsis reads: "Lilo and Stitch tells the story of the bond formed between a lonely human girl named Lilo and a dog-like alien named Stitch, who is engineered to be a force of destruction. Pursuing aliens, social workers, and the...

Lilo & Stitch's Controversial Changes To Live-Action Jumba & Pleakley Addressed By Director
Image
Lilo & Stitch director Dean Fleischer Camp addresses why one of the most controversial elements of the upcoming live-action reboot was changed from the original 2002 animated movie. The upcoming feature will reimagine the sci-fi comedy tale of a lonely girl befriending a strange creature that ultimately turns out to be an escaped alien experiment. Lilo & Stitch sees Chris Sanders return to provide the voice of the titular alien, while Maia Kealoha and Sydney Agudong will take on the roles of sisters Lilo and Nani.

While audiences continue to debate whether the upcoming Lilo & Stitch reboot can live up to the original movie's legacy, Camp opened up to SFX Magazine (later reported by The Direct) about one element that has been controversial online. Honing in on Jumba (Zach Galifianakis) and Pleakley's (Billy Magnussen) haphazard disguises on Earth, the director confirmed that the pair would employ technology that allowed the actors...

'Lilo & Stitch' Gets Stitch-Inspired Popcorn Bucket From Regal Cinemas
Image
Summer movie season is officially here, and Disney’s new Lilo & Stitch film will hit theaters just in time for Memorial Day weekend. However, with the growing trend of collectible popcorn buckets inundating the theatrical landscape, it wouldn’t be right for Experiment 626 (Chris Sanders) and his lovable human friend, Lilo Pelekai (Maia Kealoha), to have their upcoming adventure without their movie’s own snack container. Fans can check out the brand-new image of the adorable Stitch popcorn bucket (below), which will be offered at select Regal Cinemas.

Unlike some of the Stitch popcorn buckets unveiled at this year’s CinemaCon in Las Vegas, in which 626 didn’t show off their teeth, this latest version features the mischievous alien experiment happily smiling. MovieWeb reached out to Regal Cinemas via the company’s X, formerly Twitter, page to confirm its availability, and the theater chain responded by saying the following:

How To Train Your Dragon's Epic IMAX Trailer Delivers Plenty Of Breathtaking Spectacle (And Toothless)
Image
How to Train Your Dragon stands a chance of being one of this summer's biggest movies, and IMAX is encouraging fantasy fans to see it on the biggest screen possible with an epic new must-see trailer.

This latest sneak peek is heavy on action and spectacle, with the plan clearly to entice moviegoers to return to this world for a take on this story that's far bigger in scale than what we saw in animation a decade and a half ago. While the story is expected to remain the same, it's clear the ante has been upped in a big way here.

As with most live-action remakes, many fans have questioned the need for How to Train Your Dragon to head down this route.

According to filmmaker Dean DeBlois, it was all about getting to achieve the vision for this story that he was unable to fully bring to the screen with the 2010 animated classic.

Will Lilo & Stitch make an early Disney+ debut
Image
Lilo & Stitch has a lot of hype behind it, especially given all the marketing Disney has pushed for it. With Stitch creator and original voice actor Chris Sanders reprising his role, and Oscar-nominated director Dean Fleischer Camp attached to the project, it certainly has hopeful ambitions.

Stitch is easily one of Disney's most beloved characters, and his transition into live-action might be the exception to the unfortunate stigma perpetuated by Disney's other remakes. As fans wait for the new film to arrive in theaters, others are waiting for it to arrive on Disney+

When will Stitch crash Disney+?

It's easy to see the movie's appeal. Stitch is certainly a marketable figure, so it makes sense that fans would want to get him and all his intergalactic buddies out of the theatre and into their living room.

Based on what we can deduce from the trailer, it doesn't look like it will be a shot-for-shot remake,...

'Lilo & Stitch' Live-Action Remake Brings the DIsney Icon to Life for Surprised Theatergoers
Image
Should Experiment 626’s movie career not pan out, the lovable alien might have a career laid out for itself at AMC Theatres. A new promotional video (below) features Stitch from Disney’s upcoming Lilo & Stitch scanning online and paper tickets for theatergoers just as a real-life box office usher might. The engaging animatronic doll, which was seated in a director’s chair appropriately enough, bellowed with laughter at times and spoke a few words to each of those visiting the theater chain — and Stitch genuinely seemed to enjoy all the interactions with those who came out to see some movies.

Expectations are already out of this world for the remake of 2002’s animated Lilo & Stitch as the new film’s box office forecast predicts it could make $100+ million over the Memorial Day weekend (three-day) and possibly $120 million during the four-day holiday frame. However, that won’t be quite enough money...

Remakes like 'The Hunchback of Notre Dame', 'Lilo & Stitch', 'Robin Hood', and the recently announced 'Moana' (with Catherine Laga'aia and The Rock Dwayne Johnson) signal more than emotional throwbacks.

Alright, let’s be honest — live-action films lately haven’t exactly been outstanding. And I think there’s more to it than just budget issues. Especially when we’re talking about Disney — these films are anything but low-budget.

Disney isn't just a content creator — it's a cultural gatekeeper. When you hear "Disney," you think of childhood, legacy, and iconic characters that defined eras: 'The Lion King', 'Cinderella', and 'Beauty and the Beast'.

So the question becomes: What stories get retold,...

Lilo & Stitch Remake Gets An Expanded Runtime As Fun New TV Spot Reveals Jumba And Pleakley
Image
Disney's live-action remakes have been far from consistent in terms of quality, but all signs point to Lilo & Stitch being more akin to The Jungle Book or Cinderella than disappointing efforts like Snow White and Pinocchio.

Based on the trailers, Lilo & Stitch will be another very faithful adaptation, but this version of the 2002 animated classic will seemingly expand the story.

Thanks to the AMC Theaters website (via Toonado.com), we now know that Lilo & Stitch will have a runtime of 1 hour and 48 minutes. That's 25% longer than the original movie's 85-minute runtime, and while it's yet to be officially confirmed, this change is what we've come to expect from these remakes.

Early box office tracking points to Lilo & Stitch grossing over $100 million over Memorial Day weekend. That means it will earn more than Snow White's entire domestic haul in just three days.

Disney's Lilo & Stitch Remake Runtime Revealed (& It's Much Longer Than the Original)
Image
Disney fans now know how long they will have to spend in theaters watching the new Lilo & Stitch. The official runtime for the hotly anticipated live-action remake has been revealed.

According to AMC Theatres, the latest Disney live-action remake clocks in at 1 hour 48 minutes (108 min). Compared to the original's brisk 85-minute runtime, the new Lilo & Stitch will be about 25% longer, meaning that fans can probably expect to see a mixture of new material and reimagined scenes from the animated original in the live-action remake. This runtime difference isn't too surprising, given that this isn't the first time Disney has padded out the runtimes of its live-action remakes, with 2017's Beauty and the Beast (129 minutes vs. 84 minutes), 2019's Aladdin (128 minutes vs. 90 minutes), and 2024's The Little Mermaid (135 minutes vs. 87 minutes) some of the more glaring examples of the studio stretching the story of the original.

Live-Action ‘Lilo & Stitch’ Runtime Is Way Longer Than the Og Animated Movie
Image
Of all the storylines Disney has brought about over the past decades to amuse and entertain fans worldwide, Lilo & Stitch has unarguably been one of the biggest fan favorites. In fact, in a world where Disney princesses ruled, this science fiction comedy-drama felt like a breath of fresh air, shaping a lot of people’s childhoods with its mere existence.

The first installment from the respective franchise was the animated movie, which was released back in 2002. Since then, there have been quite a few adaptations, and the latest one – a live-action movie – is about to make its way to the screens pretty soon. But as exciting as that is, recent reports are claiming the upcoming movie’s runtime is way bigger than the original film!

Lilo & Stitch live-action movie reportedly has a bigger runtime than the original flick A still from the movie. | Credits: Lilo & Stitch / Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.

Stitch Is Up for Adoption in This 'Lilo & Stitch' Popcorn Bucket
Image
Only a few weeks remain until the live-action remake of Lilo & Stitch enters theaters. And while the film is just over 30 days away, it doesn't stop cinemas and studios from preparing their popcorn buckets for the occasion. And for Lilo & Stitch, it's a limited collectible and comes with a friend.

The Mexico-based Cinepolis movie theater chain shared a video of its collectible popcorn bucket for the upcoming Disney feature. This bucket is based on the floatable container that Stitch was placed in, seen during Jamba's trial in front of the Galactic Federation Headquarters at the start of the film. Not only will you be given a container filled with popcorn, but you will also bring home a new friend, as inside is a removable Stitch plush! As of writing, a price has yet to be revealed, as well as if this item will be available in the U.S.

Disney's Stitch Giving Tickle Me Elmo Some Competition With New Interactive Plush Toy

Tickle Me Elmo has just met its match. Disney recently unveiled a wave of new toys inspired by its live-action Lilo & Stitch remake, with Many Moods Stitch primed to go head-to-head with the fan-favorite Sesame Street character in the interactive plush toy category.

Per ComicBook.com, "the Many Moods Stitch interactive plush toy brings Disney Stitch's personality to life! This 13.5-inch Stitch plushie features expressive, LCD screen eyes and over 50 sounds and reactions. Scratch his head to reveal his lovable side, rub his belly for playful antics, or 'feed' him when he’s hungry. Lilo & Stitch Box Office Prediction Has Got Me Believing in Disney Live-Action Remakes Again
Image
No matter how much a studio feels tempted to ride on the love a movie received, they should think twice before moving ahead. Disney has found this out the hard way.

After making numerous live-action adaptations (with varying degrees of success), Snow White seems to have delivered a rather decisive blow to the live-action market. But just when the Rachel Zegler starrer looks set to crash at the box office, Lilo & Stitch has offered some much-needed succor to the studio.

Snow White has been an experience to forget for Disney

Snow White‘s dismal performance at the Box Office is a classic example of the risks fraught with making a live-action film in the current era. While the studio tried everything in its power to keep the movie on track for a stellar finish at the Box Office, in the end, the burden of controversies was too heavy.

Disney would...

Lilo & Stitch Will Gross More In One Weekend Than Snow White Has Earned Since Opening Last Month
Image
Snow White debuted to largely negative reviews last month (it has 40% on Rotten Tomatoes). However, unlike other live-action Disney movies that managed to shrug those off, this latest effort has failed to make a noteworthy impact at the box office.

During its fourth weekend in theaters, Snow White earned only $2.8 million for a total domestic haul of $81.9 million. Worldwide, the movie hasn't even cracked $200 million, with a disappointing $181 million haul.

However, it won't take Disney long to bounce back as Deadline (via Toonado.com) reveals that early tracking suggests Lilo & Stitch will gross over $100 million over Memorial Day weekend. That's more than Snow White's entire domestic haul in just three days.

Making this feat even more impressive is the fact that Lilo & Stitch will go head-to-head with Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning. While Experiment 626 will handily beat Ethan Hunt, the movie is still eyeing a franchise-best debut,...

Lilo & Stitch Tracking to Surpass Snow White's Entire Domestic Box Office in Just Its Opening Weekend
Image
Step aside, Snow White, a different live-action remake is on the way to solve Disney's box office woes. Early box office tracking for Lilo & Stitch has just been shared, and Disney executives can sigh with relief.

According to film tracking website Quorum (via Deadline), Lilo & Stitch is eyeing a $100 million-plus three-day opening over Memorial Day weekend. If that tracking holds, Lilo & Stitch will surpass the entire domestic box office of Snow White ($81.9M) in one weekend. A $100M+ opening would also be roughly three times larger than the opening of Mufasa: The Lion King ($35.4M), the second-last live-action adaptation of a Disney animated classic. The original animated Lilo & Stitch grossed close to $275 million worldwide during its theatrical run. With the early tracking only factoring in a domestic opening, the upcoming live-action remake could easily surpass the original's worldwide total after a single weekend, so long as the international box...

Disney is still in shock about Snow White’s poor box office run. The studio might be counting the loss. On the other hand, another one of their films is gearing up for its release. It is the live-action feature Lilo & Stitch, and that film’s long-range box office forecast seems hopeful and much more than what the Rachel Zegler starrer earned. Keep scrolling for the deets.

The sci-fi adventure movie is a live-action remake of Disney’s 2002 animated movie of the same name. It has been directed by Dean Fleischer Camp and features Maia Kealoha as Lilo. Disney's remake era ends on high note, despite 'Snow White' Scandal
Image
It's no secret that the remake of Disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs has left a bad taste in many mouths, just ask the folks at RottenTomatoes. However, the aftermath of this box office bomb might be the catalyst for permanent changes at the Disney studios.

Lilo and Stitch is next title on the release calendar for Disney remakes, and it just might be the end of an era. That said, Disney might limp away with some fan buzz thanks to one of its most popular (and most marketable) characters.

How Stitch could save Disney

Very few Disney films have been met with more vitriol and criticism than Snow White, but to say it was unwarranted would be untrue. From the film's forced feminist narrative to the reportedly toxic behavior of its miscast leading lady, it's a miracle Disney actually went through with its release.

With that in mind,...

Stitch chews on Disney’s other properties in the new poster for the live-action Lilo & Stitch
Image
Last Updated on April 5, 2025

Disney is having a ball poking fun at themselves using Stitch from the new live-action Lilo & Stitch adaptation. First, they released a teaser that was a parody of their famous Lion King scene with Stitch being held up Simba-style. Now, the House of Mouse is taking the lovable alien creature and flexing on some of their acquired properties in the new poster. This time, Stitch chews on a Pixar ball with some disheveled items from Aladdin, Star Wars, Marvel Studios, The Avengers and even 20th Century Fox in a wink-wink reference. The caption reads, “There’s one in every family.” The new adaptation is set to hit theaters on May 23, 2025.

Disney’s live-action Lilo & Stitch stars Maia Kealoha as Lilo in reimagining the mouse-eared studio’s 2002 animated classic. Other players include Zach Galifianakis, Billy Magnussen, Tia Carrere, Courtney B. Vance, Sydney Agudong, and Chris Sanders...

Lilo & Stitch: Experiment 626 Takes A Bite Out Of Marvel And Star Wars On Awesome New Poster
Image
Disney's CinemaCon presentation took place yesterday afternoon and opened with a sizzle reel of Stitch causing chaos in movies like The Fantastic Four: First Steps and Thunderbolts*. Unfortunately, that hasn't been released online (and likely won't be).

However, we do have an officially released clip from Lilo & Stitch (via Toonado.com) and a suitably chaotic poster showing Experiment 626 taking a bite out of every major Disney-owned franchise. Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar, 20th Century Studios...none of them are safe from the iconic alien.

Stitch has remained incredibly popular since the original animated movie was released in 2002, and thanks to a clever, viral marketing campaign, excitement for this one is through the roof.

Plans called for it to be released as a Disney+ "Original" before Bob Iger returned as Disney CEO, and we'd say getting this movie into theaters was a smart move as it has all the makings of a huge hit.
