Dean Cain Reveals Who Is the Best Lois Lane – And We Agree
Image
Ask five Superman fans who the best live-action Lois Lane is, and you’ll probably get five different answers—followed by a heated debate and maybe a Twitter block. For some, it’s Margot Kidder’s sharp-tongued journalist from the Christopher Reeve films. Others ride hard for Erica Durance’s fearless take on Smallville. Man of Steel‘s Amy Adams? A modern, no-nonsense Lois with zero chill. Superman & Lois‘ Elizabeth Tulloch? Sweet, grounded, and full-on mom mode. The less said about Kate Bosworth’s Lois Lane in Superman Returns, the better. But there’s one name that even the haters respect: Teri Hatcher. And if you ask Dean Cain, who played Superman opposite Hatcher in Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman (1993–1997), there’s no competition. Teri Hatcher is the best Lois Lane of all time. “I still think—no offense to anybody else’s Lois Lane—but I...

Dean Cain Was Confident He Would Beat the Hercules Kevin Sorbo in Their Superman Audition
Image
All Superman actors brought heart and soul to the famed DC character, each one giving their own unique touch that made them memorable, no matter how many iterations we have. If there’s one star who shone brightly and made it look so easy to play Clark Kent, that’s Dean Cain.

It would be difficult to imagine the Superman franchise without him, or perhaps another actor in his stead. Who would that be? Maybe Kevin Sorbo. Yes, the Hercules guy! He almost got the part of Superman, and this would have changed not only his career but also how fans perceived the Kryptonian hero.

Dean Cain talks about his Superman audition with Kevin Sorbo Kevin Sorbo in Hercules: The Legendary Journeys / Credits: Syndication

Dean Cain appeared on the Inside of You podcast with Michael Rosenbaum and spilled the details of his audition for Superman in the 1993 show Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman...

Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman Almost Cast a Shocking Choice as the Man of Steel
Image
DC fans have been pretty spoiled when it comes to Superman actors—there hasn’t really been a dud in the bunch. Each one brought something unique to the cape. Christopher Reeve had the heart. Brandon Routh brought the charm. Henry Cavill delivered the raw power. Tom Welling gave us the quiet kindness. Tyler Hoechlin? Pure dad energy. But Dean Cain? In the ‘90s hit Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, he somehow combined all of the above—and made it look easy. But imagine a world where the ’90s Superman wasn’t Dean Cain—but Kevin Sorbo? Yeah, that Kevin Sorbo! The one who swung a sword around in Hercules: The Legendary Journeys. According to Cain himself, it almost happened. DC fans, count your lucky Kryptonian stars. On Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum, Dean Cain dropped the details on his journey to becoming the Man of...

James Gunn Should Be Worried for Dcu After Donald Trump and His 100% Tariff Increase on Movies
Image
James Gunn’s Dcu is going to face major trouble after Donald Trump announced a 100% tariff for movies produced outside of the United States. Trump’s tariff is intended to save the movie industry in America. But movie studios won’t be happy with the new announcement, as some of the major productions are currently operating outside of the U.S.

While Gunn’s Superman production primarily took place at Trilith Studios in Atlanta, Georgia, the Dcu is planning to move to the U.K. for its upcoming films. For instance, the next film in the Dcu roster, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, is currently in production at the Warner Bros. Studio Leavesden in Hertfordshire.

Tom Welling Absolutely Hated One Smallville Storyline
Image
"Smallville" star Tom Welling has never been shy about which storylines bugged the crap out of him during the show's impressive 10-season run; just read about one of the episodes he nearly refused to film.

At the 2025 Fan Expo in New Orleans, Welling sat down along with some of his former costars to chat about everything and anything "Smallville." Hilariously, he didn't pull any punches when it came to Clark Kent having to dress in black and go by names like "The Red Blue Blur," the latter of which he absolutely hated. Here's what he had to say:

"I'll tell you my least favorite was the red blue blur stuff ... It was this stupid thing where Clark had this alter ego where he dressed in black and he was [kind] of like Batman. And then as much I hated it and Clark really didn't like it, I had to do scenes...

The Real Reason John Glover Left Smallville
Image
From 2001 to 2011, "Smallville" had a beloved 10-season run. But while every fan and critic may have their favorite season, only one clearly stands out as the most important: season 7. After its seventh outing, "Smallville" practically transforms into a different show. This is when the series moves from its bright rural countryside setting to a grimy and dark Metropolis, losing so many familiar faces in the process.

Kristin Kreuk departed "Smallville" around this time and would only return in season 8 for a five-episode arc to close out Lana Lang's story. Michael Rosenbaum also left the show after completing his contract obligations but made a fantastic cameo in the series finale. Even original showrunners Alfred Gough and Miles Millar made their exit after season 7, and along with them went the great John Glover, who played Lex Luthor's brilliant and morally complex father, Lionel.

Seeing as there was such a dramatic...

Cult classic 1998 horror movie to get a modern-day remake about digital terrors
Image
In the era of remakes and reboots, we've gotten a lot of news about horror movies and their potential revivals. The cult classic and underrated gem Urban Legend is the next in line for a reboot. The 1998 slasher film was buried underneath the success of Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer, which have also been remade and rebooted.

What we know so far about the Urban Legend reboot

Gary Dauberman is set to produce after working on other horror films such as 2025's Until Dawn, 2017's It, as well as multiple movies in The Conjuring Universe. Alongside Dauberman is Neal Moritz, who produced the original Urban Legend and also I Know What You Did Last Summer. He is reportedly in discussions to potentially produce as well. Shanrah Wakefield, known for a few Lifetime movies, is writing the script. Additionally, Screen Gems is behind this new take.

James Gunn's Superman Prequel Story Synopsis Revealed Along With New Look at the Dcu's Man of Steel
Image
A synopsis for the Superman prequel novel, Superman: Welcome to Metropolis, referred to Superman as "a powerful metahuman." This comes after the Man of Steel's newest cinematic outing got a sneak peek that put Lex Luthor and Superman face to face.

The synopsis (via Penguin Random House) avows that Clark Kent is a "fresh face to Metropolis," trying to balance his new job at the Daily Planet and his secret identity as Superman, "a powerful metahuman." The synopsis goes on to further note that Superman also uncovers a "dangerous mystery" that seems to tie back to Lex Luthor. Tying into this, the prequel novel's author James Prescott avouched on X, "Meta human is a term used for anyone with superhuman abilities, human or not. Calma." The cover for the book has also been revealed, which can be seen below.

The synopsis in full reads, "Clark Kent is a fresh face to Metropolis,...

Urban Legend Reboot In Development From Writer Shanrah Wakefield And Until Dawn Producer Gary Dauberman
Image
The massive box office success of the recent Scream movies led to an I Know What You Did Last Summer legacy sequel (check out the first trailer here), and we now have word that another '90s slasher movie is set for the revival treatment, with Screen Gems in the process of developing a new Urban Legends movie.

THR reports that writer/actress Shanrah Wakefield (Wrong Swipe) has been hired to pen the script, with Gary Dauberman, whose video game adaptation Until Dawn opens this weekend, on board as a producer via his Coin Operated banner. Neal Moritz, who was one of the producers of the original, is also in negotiations to produce.

Directed by Jamie Blanks and written by Sylvio Horta, the original '90s slasher was set in a New England university and focused on a killer whose murders were inspired by popular urban legends. Jared Leto, Alicia Witt,...

'Urban Legends' Is Getting a Reboot From 'Until Dawn' and 'It' Writer
Image
Did you ever hear the one about Hollywood consistently banking on sequels, requels, reboots and familiar IP to bring in box office dollars? It's not exactly folklore since it's something very well-known and very true, but it is the appropriate way to drop news that a slasher film from the late '90s teen horror movie boom is making a comeback. Urban Legend was released in the wake of the success of 1996's Scream and now another take will follow in that franchise's successful footsteps in hopes of striking gold once again.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, a reboot of 1998's Urban Legend is in early development at Sony Screen Gems, with Shanrah Wakefield being tasked to tackle the screenplay. Gary Dauberman, who co-wrote the Until Dawn video game adaptation that is opening this Friday, will produce through his Coin Operated banner. Meanwhile Neal H. Moritz, who produced the 1998 film, is...

Urban Legend reboot coming from producer Gary Dauberman
Brittany Allen and Hannah Emily Anderson in What Keeps You Alive (2018)
Five years ago, it was announced that Screen Gems had hired What Keeps You Alive writer/director Colin Minihan to take the helm of a reboot of the 1998 slasher Urban Legend, the idea being to create “an iconic new slasher for the digital age in a world where internet urban legends are born and move at a terrifying pace.” Minihan’s reboot got far enough into development that Sydney Chandler and Katherine McNamara were in talks to star in the film… but then, it all fell apart. Now, The Hollywood Reporter has broken the news that Screen Gems is going to give this Urban Legend reboot idea another try, bringing in genre regular Gary Dauberman to produce the film under his Coin Operated banner. Neal H. Moritz, who was a producer on the original film, is in talks to produce as well, while Shanrah Wakefield has been hired to write the screenplay.

‘Urban Legend’ Reboot in the Works from Gary Dauberman, Neal Moritz (Exclusive)
Image
Screen Gems’ 1990s slasher movie Urban Legend is getting a modern era reboot.

The Sony genre division is in early development on a new version of the 1998 feature, hiring Shanrah Wakefield to pen the script. Gary Dauberman, whose video game adaptation Until Dawn opens Friday, will produce via his Coin Operated banner. Neal Moritz, who was one of the producers of the original, is in negotiations to produce as well.

The original Legend, directed by Jamie Blanks and written by Sylvio Horta, was a horror movie set in a New England university that featured a killer whose kills were inspired by popular urban legends of the period, such as death by Pop Rocks and soft drinks or being pursued in a car by a gang for flashing it a reminder to turn on their headlights.

The movie featured a strong cast of rising names of the late ’90s, including Jared Leto,...

Tom Welling Nearly Refused To Film One Of Smallville's Worst Episodes
Image
"Smallville," which had an impressive run from 2001-2011, was the retelling of Clark Kent's (Tom Welling) rural upbringing in Kansas before he becomes the Man of Steel. The show was an incredible success on all fronts and is still fondly remembered to this day. However, as beloved as the series remains, that doesn't mean every one of its 217 episodes was a home run. There were more than a few stinkers, with season 6, episode 20, "Noir" being one of the most notorious and divisive.

The episode is a mostly black-and-white feature that acts as an homage to the noir films from the 1940s, with Aaron Ashmore's Jimmy Olsen dreaming up a noir escapade and serving as the investigative reporter two steps behind a bewildering murder case. While Ashmore remembers the episode fondly, Welling himself seems to recall things with a different lens, especially when it comes to the early plans for "Noir.

Everyone Forgets The Flash Star Who Quit ‘Law & Order’ After 198 Episodes to Return to Broadway
Image
Initially becoming notable for his work on Broadway, especially in the role of Tom Collins in Rent, Jesse L. Martin later garnered recognition for Law & Order. Given his no-nonsense approach to the stint as Detective Ed Green, Martin, who was incorporated in the wake of Benjamin Bratt’s exit from the procedural drama, became a mainstay during his 10-year-long stint.

But despite his success in NYPD’s 27th Precinct, after a years-long commitment to the IP, the actor finally called it quits to go back to his roots.

Although Law & Order did propel Martin’s career to the next level, and The Flash star proved to be an immaculate replacement for Detective Rey Curtis, in season 18, the actor finally opted to call it quits.

Image
Drew Scott is best known for Property Brothers. But before that he had a very special, and some would say very important, role in Smallville.

During an appearance onThe Jennifer Hudson Show, Scott revealed that he worked as Clark Kent actor Tom Welling's body double. "I was Superman's butt double back in Tom Welling's Smallville days," he said during a guessing game segment related to thirst traps. This is not the first time Scott has spoken about his links to Smallville. In 2020, he happily discussed his contribution to the series with People "When they're doing like butt shots and ab shots, I was the one they were using," he said. "It was great. It was a little side thing. I was...

The Real Reason Kristin Kreuk Left Smallville
Image
Before Clark Kent meets Lois Lane in Metropolis, he grows up with Lana Lang in Smallville. That's how Superman mythos goes, and nowhere was this romantic journey better portrayed than in The CW series "Smallville."

Lana Lang, played by Kristin Kreuk, is one of the show's most crucial characters, serving not only as a romantic partner to Tom Welling's Clark Kent, but also as a dear friend to some of the show's most important characters. However, at the end of season 7, Lana, in an effort to make sure Clark can be the best heroic version of himself, gives a heartfelt goodbye to him and Smallville, with Kreuk effectively leaving the show, only to come back for a five-episode stint the following season to give a second tragic end to the Lana-Clark story.

Behind the scenes, it's widely believed that Kreuk's contract around this time was simply over and done.

“I don’t think that’s fanaticism”: Nathan Fillion Wasn’t Unfazed by ‘Firefly’ Fans Going Extreme Lengths for Revival That Included Fighting Fox

Nathan Fillion’s single-season cult show, Firefly, left a lasting impression on fans. Fox canceled the show after airing eleven out of its fourteen produced episodes. When all of these episodes were later made available for viewers, they wanted more out of this cowboy space drama. There were demands for a revival even two decades after its airing.

On paper, Fox couldn’t justify the huge budget of the show with its below-average ratings. Without giving it another chance, Fox decided to pull the plug by airing another hit pilot, Fastlane. However, it didn’t take much longer for fans to figure out that Fox had made a huge mistake.

"I Want To Give Felicity Her Flowers": 'Arrow’ Star Emily Bett Rickards Reveals Her Condition for Reprising Her Role in the Dcu
Image
DC's Arrow began in the Fall of 2012, airing its eighth and final season between October 2019 and January 2020. Central to the narrative were Oliver Queen and Felicity Smoak, played by Stephen Amell and Emily Bett Rickards respectively. Prior to the pair appearing in the western thriller Calamity Jane, which hit theaters in February. It had been several years since the pair shared a screen together. There are fans who hope for an Olicity reunion, and it would seem that one half of that team is willing to make it happen, as Rickards recently revealed a willingness to reprise the role.

Felicity abruptly departed the original Arrowverse series during its run, and speaking during an appearance on Michael Rosenbaum's Inside of You podcast, Rickards explains the reason behind the decision to step away from the role. After seven seasons on the show, Rickards made the decision to exit Arrow, returning for...

Emily Bett Rickards Is Open to Returning as Felicity Smoak in ‘Arrow’ Revival: “I’m not doing it for Arrow or really the fans.”
Image
After 12 years on the air in various shapes and sizes, the Arrowverse came to an end in 2024 when the final episode of Superman & Lois ended. And while the fictional universe moved away from its roots over the years, growing significantly, many fans still like to go back to the beginning.

The whole fictional universe spun off from the Arrow series, which set the foundations and the bar for all future shows. And while Arrow ended back in 2020, many fans are still hoping for a potential revival, and the idea has been discussed with the cast members as well.

In a recent podcast, Emily Bett Rickards discussed the possibility of a revival and revealed that she would gladly return to play Felicity Smoak once again, but her reasoning is very interesting!

Emily Bett Rickards is ready to play Felicity Smoak again. The actor recently revealed that she would be open to appearing in an Arrow TV movie or limited revival series.

"As the years went on, things got like a little crazy, but I’m still so grateful for not only Arrow, but for Felicity. I’m really proud of who Felicity was," the actor began. Emily Bett Rickards Open to Arrow Revival: ‘I’d Do It for Felicity’ After Character Got ‘Lost’ in Later Seasons

24 Years Later, and I Don’t Think There Will Be Another Superhero TV Show Like “Smallville’
Image
It’s wild to think about, but Smallville first hit our screens 24 years ago. Back in 2001, it did something no other Superman adaptation, or rather any superhero adaptation, had really done before—it took us into Clark Kent’s early years.

Instead of jumping straight to the caped hero we all recognize, Smallville lets us see a teenage Clark, awkwardly navigating high school, friendships, and self-discovery while slowly coming to terms with his destiny. It wasn’t about Superman, the larger-than-life icon—it was about Clark, the person. And that’s what made it so easy to connect with.

For ten seasons, we got to watch him stumble, grow, and finally step into the hero we all knew he was meant to be. The show brought in classic Superman characters, but it did so in a way that felt natural, like they were always part of Clark’s world.

How Reacher's Alan Ritchson Really Felt About The WB's Failed Aquaman TV Pilot
Image
Now that Alan Ritchson has given fans of Lee Child's Jack Reacher novels a book-accurate version of the ex-military policeman, the actor's career has really taken off. Playing the hulking protagonist of Prime Video's "Reacher" has catapulted Ritchson to a level of fame that he had seemingly been chasing for some time. The man was 40 years old when he fronted the first season of the popular series in 2022, and while he had been working fairly consistently prior to that, "Reacher" was such a hit that Ritchson suddenly found himself on his way to becoming a household name.

Once his streaming series took off, the 6-foot 3-inch star brought his Jack Reacher muscle to the role of Agency head Aimes in "Fast X," and will soon appear opposite Arnold Schwarzenegger in a Christmas comedy. Meanwhile, "Reacher" season 3 is breaking streaming records for Prime Video, cementing Ritchson's status as a bonafide star.

Ashmore appeared with his former costar, Michael Rosenbaum, on the Inside of You podcast, and naturally talk turned to their time on Smallville. Addressing the way his character was shockingly killed off in the show, the actor also recalled finding out that he wasn’t playing Jimmy Olsen as he originally believed. He said:

“I don't know... Literally, what they told me, was that because this wasn't the actual Superman timeline, this canon that we all know, it's slightly different. 'You can't be Jimmy Olsen because it's too young. Clark needs to be older,' all this sort of stuff. So at first, I was bummed, because I've been doing all these interviews for three years.

Smallville Star Aaron Ashmore Admits He Was "Shocked" To Learn Of Co-Star Allison Mack's Sex Cult Scandal
Image
We didn't see Allison Mack on screen again following her decade-long stint in Smallville, and later learned she'd become embroiled in a sex cult known as Nxivm.

Arrested by the FBI in 2018, Mack pleaded guilty to charges of trafficking, sex trafficking conspiracy, and forced labour conspiracy. Accusations of money laundering and identity fraud followed, with racketeering and conspiracy charges also later added.

The actress who played Clark Kent's best friend, Chloe Sullivan, ultimately served 2 years behind bars and was released in 2023.

Mack, who has now vanished from the spotlight, was said to have been responsible for recruiting new members to the group and has previously been accused of attempting to enlist her Smallville co-stars.

In the DC series, Aaron Ashmore played Jimmy Olsen and was Chloe's love interest. Talking to fellow Smallville alum Michael Rosenbaum for his Inside of You podcast, the actor reflected on learning about what Mack had...

Smallville animated series is “off the table” because of James Gunn’s Superman
Image
Tom Welling and Michael Rosenbaumt have been working on a potential animated follow-up to Smallville for a number of years, but series co-creator Alfred Gough said the project is now “off the table” due to James Gunn’s new DC Universe.

“Warners has obviously gone through a lot, and I think the fact that they are in the process of rebooting Superman again, kind of unfortunately, I think, keeps our thing off the table for a bit,” Gough said during Rosenbaum and Welling’s TalkVille podcast (thanks to Cbm). “Everything comes around in one form or another, I just read the other day that they are rebooting Buffy for Hulu.“

He continued, “That is the thing, I think the problem with most projects in development in any studio and/or any network is regime change.” Once the Dcu has had a little time to establish itself, it’s possible that...

What Happened To Tom Welling & Michael Rosenbaum's Smallville Sequel Series?
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

Those holding out hope for the animated "Smallville" sequel series may want to temper expectations. The CW's Superman prequel series aired for 10 seasons from 2001 to 2011, giving us Tom Welling's journey as Clark Kent to the hero he was destined to become. We also got to know Michael Rosenbaum as Lex Luthor along the way. Both actors were expected to return for a proposed sequel series, but unfortunately, it sounds like it's not going to happen any time soon.

On a recent episode of the "Talk Ville" podcast, series co-creator Alfred Gough offered an update on the status of the project. We first heard about the animated "Smallville" follow-up in 2021, but official updates have been few and far between. Gough poured some cold water on the situation, explaining that the upcoming big screen "Superman" reboot from director James Gunn is...

Smallville Co-Creator Says Animated Sequel Series Is "Off The Table" Due To James Gunn's Superman
Image
Back in 2021, Smallville star Tom Welling revealed that he was working on an animated continuation of the CW series with co-star Michael Rosenbaum during a Cameo video which was later shared on social media.

"Michael Rosenbaum and I are actually working on an animated series to bring those characters back to life, and use as many of the original cast members as possible," said the actor in his message. "Don't tell anybody, though. It's a secret, we're still working on it."

Welling did reprise the role of Clark Kent for the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover event, but it was a very brief appearance and he didn't actually suit-up as Superman. Fans have been hoping for some kind of follow-up that would also feature Rosenbaum's Lex Luthor ever since the show ended back in 2011, and this animated sequel series would likely have been the closest we'd get to a revival.

David Corenswet’s Superman Is Unfortunately the Reason Why We Won’t Get a Smallville Sequel Series
Image
Superman fans have been eating well lately. We’ve got reboots, animated shows, and enough versions of Clark Kent to make you wonder if Krypton had a cloning facility. But for die-hard Smallville fans, the dream of a proper sequel series is just that, a dream.

And guess what? The Man of Steel himself might be the one keeping it from happening. Not Lex Luthor. Not General Zod. Not even some Kryptonite-fueled conspiracy. No, it’s Superman. Or, more specifically, the new Superman played by David Corenswet.

‘Smallville’ Co-Creator Says Animated Sequel Is ‘Off The Table For a Bit’ While Warner Bros. Is ‘Rebooting ‘Superman”: ‘Everything Comes Around in One Form or Another’
Image
Co-creator Alfred Gough says his animated follow-up to “Smallville” will have to wait until Warner Bros. is finished with James Gunn’s “Superman.”

“Warners has obviously gone through a lot, and I think the fact that they are in the process of rebooting ‘Superman’ again, kind of unfortunately, I think, keeps our thing off the table for a bit,” Gough told “Smallville” stars Michael Rosenbaum and Tom Welling on their “Talk Ville” podcast. “Everything comes around in one form or another, I just read the other day that they are rebooting ‘Buffy’ for Hulu.”

Co-created by Gough and Miles Millar, “Smallville” ran for 217 episodes across 10 seasons on the CW. The show followed a teenage Clark Kent (Welling) learning to harness his superpowers for good in the quaint town of Smallville, Kan.

Gough went on to add that another wrinkle in the “Smallville” sequel series could be the “regime change” that happened over at Warner Bros.

‘Smallville’ Sequel Series Hits a Wall at Warner Bros.
Image
The much-talked-about animated sequel to ‘Smallville’ isn’t moving forward anytime soon. Work on the project has stalled, and it seems the big shake-ups at Warner Bros. and DC Studios are to blame. With new leadership in place, the focus has shifted, leaving this fan-favorite idea on hold for now.

Alfred Gough, who co-created ‘Smallville’ with Miles Millar, dropped some insight during a chat on the Talk Ville Podcast, hosted by stars Tom Welling and Michael Rosenbaum. He pointed out that studios often hit roadblocks when leadership changes, and Warner Bros. is no exception. They’ve been through a lot lately, especially with plans to reboot Superman yet again.

Gough thinks this is why their sequel has been pushed aside, saying, ‘I think the fact that they are in the process of rebooting Superman again, kind of unfortunately, I think, keeps our thing off the table for a bit.’ It...

‘Smallville’ Co-Creator Says Warner Bros. “Regime Change” Has Taken Animated Sequel Series “Off The Table For A Bit”
Image
Nearly 15 years after the Superman origin story ended, Smallville fans will have to wait a little longer for a potential animated continuation.

With David Corenswet making his Man of Steel debut in the new Dcu‘s Superman, premiering July 11, Smallville co-creator Alfred Gough recently explained that James Gunn and Peter Safran‘s tenure as DC Studios co-ceos has taken his project “off the table for a bit.”

“That is the thing, I think the problem with most projects in development in any studio and/or any network is regime change,” he said on Smallville stars Tom Welling and Michael Rosenbaum‘s Talk Ville podcast.

“Warners has obviously gone through a lot, and I think the fact that they are in the process of rebooting Superman again, kind of unfortunately, I think, keeps our thing off the table for a bit,” added Gough, who developed the series with Miles Millar. “Everything...

Smallville Co-Creator Says James Gunn's Superman Might Be What's Holding Up the Animated Sequel Series
Image
An animated Smallville revival has long been in the works by Tom Welling and Michael Rosenbaum — but one of the show's co-creators recently shared his thoughts on why the project has yet to really get its feet off the ground.

On the most recent episode of Welling and Rosenbaum's Talk Ville Podcast, one of Smallville's original showrunners, Al Gough, joined to discuss Season 6, Episode 6: 'Subterranean'. When the discussion turned to the development of the planned Smallville animated spin-off, Gough gave his opinion on what's been holding up the series, saying, "I think the problem with most projects in development in any studio and/or any network is regime change. Warners has obviously gone through a lot, and I think the fact that they are in the process of rebooting Superman again, kind of unfortunately, I think, keeps our thing off the table for a bit."

While it's certainly a disappointing update for Smallville fans,...

Batman v Superman Already Had the Perfect Lex Luthor Actor & This Neo-Western Proved He Was Miscast
Image
Quick LinksWho Did Scoot McNairy Play In the Dceu? What Was East of Wall About?

The following contains spoilers for East of Wall, which was screened at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival.

When it comes to Lex Luthor, DC Comics fans will always have their preferences. Many adored the quirky portrayal by the late Gene Hackman. Others gravitated towards the more serious ones, like Michael Rosenbaum from Smallville and Michael Cudlitz from Superman & Lois.

The most polarizing one, however, was Jesse Eisenberg's Lex from Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice. Some viewers felt he was too eccentric, coming off a bit like Willy Wonka. Coincidentally, that Zack Snyder Dceu film had another actor who would have been a perfect Lex. A Neo-Western from the 2025 Sundance Film Festival proves that Scoot McNair was gravely miscast in the minor role he was given.

Why Christopher Judge Never Directed An Episode Of Stargate Sg-1
Image
Christopher Judge was arguably the most recognizable aspect of "Stargate Sg-1." As a '90s kid who remembers the show being on-air around the late-90s/early-2000s, I can say that while I knew nothing about the show itself (my only knowledge of the franchise was Roland Emmerich's 1994 "Stargate" movie ) I vividly recall the image of Judge's Teal'c and his golden forehead tattoo. The Jaffa warrior and his unique look was just part of the general cultural scenery of the time.

Now, having become more familiar with "Sg-1," it's become clear just how important to the series Judge's character was. Judge was a series lead but he also wrote three episodes: season 6's "The Changeling," season 7's "Birthright," and season 8's "Sacrifices." He also reprised the role of Teal'c in two episodes of the sequel series "Stargate Atlantis" and in the direct-to-dvd movies "The Ark of Truth" and "Continuum.

Animated 'Smallville' Sequel Show With Tom Welling & Michael Rosenbaum Not Happening Yet
Image
Fans hoping to see the long-awaited return ofSmallville might be waiting a little longer than they hoped. In 2021, it was announced that Smallville stars Tom Welling and Michael Rosenbaum, who played Clark Kent and Lex Luthor, respectively, were looking to do a Smallville continuation in the form of an animated series. While the duo did pitch the series to Warner Bros. in January 2022, there has been no word on it since. The latest update will be disappointing for fans of the early 2000s superhero series.

On the latest episode of Welling and Rosenbaum's Talk Ville Podcast, the duo were joined by Smallville's co-creator Al Gough, who weighed in on what is holding up the Smallville continuation. It seems the answer is what everyone would expect: James Gunn's Superman. The focus for Warner Bros. and DC is on the new Superman movie, and any other Superman-related projects are of secondary concern at the moment.

Tom Welling & Michael Rosenbaum's Smallville Sequel Show Gets First 2025 Update From Original Creators
Image
The original Smallville creators give a new update on the DC TV sequel series that is in development by Tom Welling and Michael Rosenbaum. While it has been over a decade since the Smallville TV show ended, the story for this particular version of the Man of Steel may not be completely done, as Welling and Rosenbaum have been working on an animated continuation series. However, things have been very slow in the development phase for the potential Smallville sequel.

On the latest episode of Welling and Rosenbaum's Talk Ville Podcast, they were briefly joined by one of the original showrunners, Al Gough, who co-created the series with Miles Millar, as they were discussing the season 6 episode, "Subterranean." Katie Cassidy, who played DC heroine Black Canary in the Arrowverse, opens up about her controversial Arrow death. While Arrow may have ended nearly half a decade ago, one of the most discussed aspects of The CW drama to this point is the unexpected death of the Black Canary during season 4, as Cassidy's character was murdered by Damien Darhk.
