We're used to seeing Popeye let his fists do the talking, but the iconic Sailor Man will be doling out more than a few spinach-fuelled ass-kickings in a new slasher movie from ITN Studios.
Following a recent first look via some promo stills, the first trailer for Popeye horror parody - which is officially titled Popeye's Revenge - has been released online (via Bloody Disgusting).
The success of the recent low-budget Winnie-The-Pooh: Blood and Honey has led to a number of classic animated tales being given a horror makeover, and the spinach-chomping comic strip hero is the latest beloved character to be turned into a bloodthirsty killer for an upcoming indie project.
This will be the first of two (so far) Popeye horror flicks to be released this year, the other being Popeye The Slayer Man.

Update: So, we appear to have mixed up two Popeye horror flicks! We assumed Shiver Me Timbers was the ITN Studios project we told you about last week, but apparently it's a completely separate movie.
Following a recent first look via some promo stills, the first trailer for ITN Studios' Popeye horror parody - which is officially titled Shiver Me Timbers - has been released online, and it looks... about how you'd expect!
The success of the recent low-budget Winnie-The-Pooh: Blood and Honey has led to a number of classic animated tales being given a horror makeover, and the spinach-chomping sailor is the latest beloved character to be turned into a bloodthirsty killer for an upcoming indie project.
Described as a "raunchy and gory slasher," it's worth clarifying that ITN’s movie is not connected to the Twisted Childhood Universe, aka the "Poohniverse."
Stephen Murphy is set to play the title character.

In Norbit, actor Eddie Murphy played three different characters. Known for playing multiple parts in one movie, Norbit promised the same type of comedic entertainment fans came to expect from Murphy. Norbit followed Murphy's acclaimed performance in 2006's Dreamgirls and was a stark contrast to the Oscar-winner, ultimately so poorly received that Murphy received multiple Razzie Award nominations for the numerous parts he played.
Murphy went from a highly praised performance in Dreamgirls to overwhelming criticism in Norbit in an extremely short period. Here's how it happened and what the makers of Norbit said about it.

Get ready for more Clifford.
Paramount Pictures has announced it is developing a sequel to 2021’s family-friendly adventure “Clifford the Big Red Dog.” The studio has not disclosed whether the newest installment will play only in theaters or simultaneously on digital platforms, like the original.
The first film premiered in theaters earlier in November and has since generated $34 million at the domestic box office while playing concurrently on Paramount Plus. Though the company didn’t provide any tangible metrics, Paramount says “Clifford the Big Red Dog” has become the nascent streaming service’s most-watched original film to date. It should be noted that Paramount Plus rebranded from CBS All Access last March with limited cinematic offerings, so “Clifford” didn’t have much competition to cement its place as the streamer’s most popular new film.

Clifford the Big Red Dog was spotted just outside of Metro Detroit in Allen Park, Michigan taking a break from promoting his new film, Clifford the Big Red Dog. The large red pooch was seen relaxing near the world’s largest tire.

When middle-schooler Emily Elizabeth (Darby Camp) meets a magical animal rescuer (John Cleese) who gifts her a little, red puppy, she never anticipated waking up to find a giant ten-foot hound in her small New York City apartment. While her single mom (Sienna Guillory) is away for business, Emily and her fun but impulsive uncle Casey (Jack Whitehall) set out on an adventure that will keep you on the edge-of-your-seat as our heroes take a bite out of the Big Apple.

Exclusive: In the wake of being quite content with the theatrical and Paramount+ day-and-date release of Paw Patrol, the studio is putting the eOne/New Republic Pictures feature Clifford: The Big Red Dog back on the calendar for Wednesday, Nov. 10 in both theaters and on the ViacomCBS streaming service.
The decision is also due to the ongoing pandemic, the safety for kids 6-11–Clifford‘s main demo and changing consumer behavior. If you remember, Sony moved Ghostbusters: Afterlife out of the Veterans Day stretch there and put it on Nov. 19. Opening Nov. 12 wide, the same weekend as Clifford and aimed at a completely different, older demo is Focus Features’ TIFF-award winning Kenneth Bragnagh childhood biopic Belfast.
Deadline first told you that Paramount moved Clifford the Big Red Dog was moving out off September 17 due to Covid, and kids being unable to be vaccinated. The pic’s world premiere at TIFF was also pulled,...

Did Hollywood learn nothing from the toothsome first version of Sonic the hedgehog?
After Paramount debuted a first look at the new CGI version of the children’s classic “Clifford the Big Red Dog” on Wednesday, fans took to the internet to express their displeasure at the title Labrador retriever’s “scary as hell” appearance.
“This isn’t Clifford, it’s a dog covered in blood,” Twitter user Mevans2703 wrote.
Twitter user @Kathriller suggested that the new film might be a horror movie, posting an image of the character dwarfing much smaller canines: “Clifford is already drenched in the blood of his enemies and he isn’t finished.”
The movie, based on Norman Bridwell’s beloved children’s books and subsequent PBS TV series, follows Clifford and his human pal, Emily Elizabeth (played by Darby Camp), who adopts the little, red puppy from a magical animal rescuer (John Cleese) — and...

Thandie Newton claims that Eddie Murphy was hardly ever on the set of 2007's Norbit. The actress opened up about a variety of topics in a new interview, including working with Tom Cruise on Mission: Impossible 2. While Murphy reportedly wasn't around, it sounds like Newton would have preferred Cruise took the same road since they really didn't get along too well. Murphy and Cruise are superstars, so it's not surprising that they might have some different approaches to their respective crafts.
In order to get the role of Kate Thomas in Norbit, Thandie Newton had to jump through some hoops. Apparently the producers weren't sure that she could give the comedic performance that the part demanded. In the end, Newton was able to win them over and looked forward to working with Eddie Murphy. She had this to say about "working" with Murphy on Norbit.

Blame it on 21 Jump Street. In 2012, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller rebooted a silly, cult television series with a clever wink. It was a hit that spawned a hit sequel. Now we have Baywatch, directed by Seth Gordon, a not-so-clever adaptation of an ultra-silly television series that got popular in the 90s. Dwayne Johnson stars as Mitch Buchannon, the studly leader of Baywatch, the world’s most elite lifeguard crew. Filling out his batch of loyal Baywatch-ers are Stephanie Holden (Ilfenesh Hadera), Cj Parker (Kelly Rohrbach), Summer Quinn (Alexandra Daddario), Ronnie (Jon Bass) and Matt Brody (Zac Efron), a disgraced Olympian forced to fulfill his community service with the team.
There are drugs on the beach and it’s on Mitch and co. to get to the bottom of things. But, also not really. It’s actually a job for the police, as the screenplay (from, take a deep breath,...

Now that we objectified male actors for a change, let’s dive deep into Baywatch, a Seth Gordon film that’s set to be released on May 28 of this year. Judging just from Gordon’s previous work on Horrible Bosses and Identity Thief, it looks funny, and it looks good.
Move over David Hasselhoff! Dwayne Johnson takes over his role as Mitch Buchanan, the super hunky main lifeguard who now has to deal with a new recruit, Matt Brody, and his sporadic ways. Originally played by David Charvet in the television series, this new lifeguard is, surprise, played by Zac Efron. For people of a certain age, there can be little argument that the most recent big screen outings for the Smurfs were disappointing, to say the least. Thrusting the beloved little blue characters into an animation/live action hybrid scenario was, quite simply, ill-advised – even if Hank Azaria was obviously born to play the evil wizard, Gargamel. The fact that the 2011 and 2013 movies are the only Smurfish point of reference for a whole new generation of children is tragic – which makes the news of a fully animated re-boot from Sony Pictures Animation – titled Get Smurfy – most welcome indeed.
The Smurfs hail from a bygone era – first appearing in 1958, as the comic strip creation of Belgian artist Peyo. Peyo was the author of Johan And Peewit at the time, which was a story set in the Middle Ages, and featured a King’s Page and his sidekick. Published in an issue...

Some time ago, Sony Pictures decided to push back their animated adaptation of the classic sailor Popeye to an unknown release. But thanks to the 2014 Licensing Expo that is currently underway in Las Vegas, we have our first look at the film from Hotel Transylvania director Genndy Tartakovsky by way of a promotional image picked up by Collider. The quality isn’t very good, but it doesn give off the vibe of an animation style not entirely unlike what we’ve seen in the Peanuts movie or the Oscar-nominated short film Get a Horse! The style of the characters stays true to the drawings, but gives them another dimension. Look! Here's the first look at Genndy Tartakovsky's animated Popeye from Collider: Popeye is directed by Genndy Tartakovsky (Hotel Transylvania, “Dexter’s Laboratory” and "Clone Wars") and written by David Ronn & Jay Scherick (The Smurfs). The 2014 Licensing Expo is currently underway in Las Vegas, an event that gives movie fans an early look at some upcoming properties. While these promo posters aren't necessarily representative of the film's final look, they do give us an idea of the style and tone. In the case of the promotional image for Genndy Tartakovsky's animated feature film Popeye, it might even offer a hint of plot. One image that's likely very close to the final product is the poster for the Shaun the Sheep movie, since the Mark Burton and Richard Starzack film is based on the long-running Aardman animated series. Hit the jump to check them both out. First up, here's a look at Tartakovsky's Popeye: There's not too much that's currently known about the Sony Pictures Animation project, other than that it was scripted by The Smurfs screenwriters Jay Scherickand David Ronn. NBC is planning a sequel to the classic 1980s TV series "Remington Steele" which launched the career of Pierce Brosnan.
The original hourlong drama ran for five seasons and blended romantic comedy, drama, and detective procedural.
The story followed Laura Holt (Stephanie Zimbalist) , a licensed private detective who opened her own agency but found potential clients refused to hire a woman.
She invents a fictitious male superior named Remington Steele and ends up hiring a former thief and con man to assume that identity, while behind the scenes she remains firmly in charge.
NBC's reboot keeps the title, but shifts things to a half-hour comedy format. The action in this follows Olivia Holt, the daughter of Laura and Remington, who reopens the once famed Remington Steele Detective Agency. She ends up in the same "hilarious, action-packed, romantic entanglements of her parents".

Following in the illustrious footsteps of recent TV reboots "Knight Rider" and "Charlie's Angels" (we kid), "Remington Steele" is on track for an update at NBC.
Deadline reports that the Peacock is planning a next-generation sequel series to its 1982-87 romantic comedy/drama procedural, notable for launching the career of Pierce Brosnan. Keeping the same title, the new series will follow Olivia Holt, the daughter of Remington Steele (Brosnan) and Laura Holt (Stephanie Zimbalist), as she reopens the once-world-famous Remington Steele Detective Agency -- only to fall into the same "hilarious, action-packed, romantic entanglements" of her parents.
While the original series was an hour long, the proposed update, to be written by Jay Sherick and David Ronn ("Spin City"), will take on the half-hour comedy format. Ruben Fleischer ("Gangster Squad") is set to direct the project, which has a script commitment plus penalty.
Do you think an update of "Remington Steele" is a good idea?...

Lovers of ’80s primetime drama, Steele yourselves.
NBC is eyeing a sequel to its Reagan-era detective series Remington Steele — only the new project is a half-hour comedy, our sister site Deadline reports.
The undertaking, also named Remington Steele, would center on Olivia Holt, daughter of Remington Steele and Laura Holt (played by Pierce Brosnan and Stephanie Zimbalist in the original version).

In the comedy, Ms. Holt would reopen her parents’ detective agency and soon find herself in the same kind of funny, action-filled situations that provided the background for Remington and Laura’s five-season-long romance.

Exclusive: Three decades after Remington Steele launched the career of Pierce Brosnan, the romantic comedy/drama procedural is getting a next-generation reboot, this time as a half-hour comedy. NBC, which aired the original hourlong series for five seasons between 1982-1987, has nabbed the sequel project from 20th Century Fox TV, which owns rights to the show via News Corp’s acquisition of Remington Steele producer Mtm. Titled Remington Steele, the reboot follows Olivia Holt, the daughter of Remington Steele and Laura Holt, as she reopens the once-world-famous Remington Steele Detective Agency — only to fall into the same hilarious, action-packed, romantic entanglements of her parents. Los Angeles — Time flies when you're not wondering about the welfare of the Smurfs, those diminutive, animated blue-skinned forest-dwellers. Turns out they've been just fine since their 2011 big-screen outing, but there's trouble brewing in their new adventure-comedy that will require their curious blend of wide-eyed optimism and goofy enthusiasm to peacefully resolve.
A sequel largely unwarranted other than for box office and promotional purposes, the unimaginatively titled "The Smurfs 2" should have little trouble scaling stratospheric heights similar to its predecessor with undiscriminating young audiences and their chaperones, weary from near-unrelenting summertime caregiving.

A trend has been cutting through Hollywood in recent years, a tendency for greedy movie studios to adapt as many properties as they can get their grubby, money hungry little hands on. Whether it’s comic book franchises – easily the most profitable of the lot – or video games, toys, even board games, there’s seemingly no cap on Hollywood’s obsession with adapting every possible (and impossible) property into a ridiculous movie.
While these projects come and go depending on their viability in the cinematic medium, here are 10 projects that have been lingering around for years and aren’t showing any signs of going away. Here are 10 movies so ridiculous that they by all usual logic should not become movies, and with just a few exceptions, they will surely become blights on cinema’s good name…
