Gimli's Potential Lord Of The Rings Movie Return Addressed By John Rhys-Davies: "If I'm Asked To Serve..."
Image
Exclusive: Constant speculation has been circling The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum pertaining to whether iconic Lord of the Rings actors will reprise their roles, and original star John Rhys-Davies just gave a hopeful answer. Andy Serkis' The Hunt for Gollum movie is expected in December 2027, with the great actor directing and returning to his famous role. The movie is widely expected to depict Aragorn and Gandalf tracking Gollum, therefore overlapping with The Fellowship of the Ring in the Lord of the Rings timeline.

Viggo Mortensen and Ian McKellen returning as Aragorn and Gandalf, respectively, seems like it would be vital to this story (neither actor is confirmed for Hunt for Gollum), but other classic Lord of the Rings characters have the potential to appear as well. And, in an interview with Screen Rant's Joe Deckelmeier at Fan Expo Philadelphia, Gimli actor John Rhys-Davies apparently confirmed...

Remembering the Late Joe Don Baker, Dead at 89, Arguably the First American Bond Villain
Image
Joe Don Baker, beloved character actor who populated classic films from “Walking Tall” to “Cape Fear” with his unique spin on the brawny Texan persona, is dead at 89, his family announced. He is survived by a circle of friends and extended relations in his hometown of Groesbeck, Texas.

Standing six-foot, two inches and built like a brick wall, he was a natural athlete, playing basketball and football in high school, and attending North Texas State College on an athletic scholarship. Graduating in 1958, and after spending two years in the army, he moved to New York City to study at the Actors Studio, landing his debut in Manhattan theater in “Marathon ’33” in 1963. Small parts in Westerns on TV followed: “The Big Valley,” “Bonanza,” “Gunsmoke,” and, notably, the pilot episode of “Lancer,” where he played the villain — a Tarantino-ized version of which was played by Leonardo DiCaprio’s Rick Dalton in...

Disney Spent Over $30 Million On A Spin-Off That Will Likely Never Happen
Image
There are few names that get Disney historians to raise their eyebrows like Disneytoon. The studio behind the Mouse House's direct-to-home-media racket from 1990 to 2018, Disneytoon was tasked with knocking out sequels, prequels, and spin-offs to its parent company's biggest animated films as quickly and, just as importantly, cheaply as possible. The results weren't exactly Disney magic, but you can't blame the studio's artists for doing what they could. In the end, they made 47 (!) animated movies in three decades, and hey: They helped give us Al's hot dad Cassim (John Rhys-Davies) from "Aladdin and the King of Thieves" and the generational cult classic that is "A Goofy Movie," so you gotta show them some respect.

This brings us to today's specific topic: "Planes." Directed by Klay Hall ("Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure"), it's an odd duck among Disneytoon's output, being a theatrical release based on Pixar's "Cars" franchise. The...

Howard J. Ford dives into underground terror with ‘Bone Keeper’
Image
Get ready to fear the dark all over again: indie horror master Howard J. Ford has just wrapped his latest monster movie, Bone Keeper, and it’s bringing some serious legend-hunting, cave-dwelling terror.

The film follows six friends who venture deep into a remote cave system chasing the myth of the “Bone Keeper,” only to find themselves fighting to survive something far more real and far more deadly lurking in the depths. Think claustrophobic horror, ancient creatures, and survival against impossible odds.

Genre icon John Rhys-Davies leads the cast, alongside Sarah Alexandra Marks, Louis James, Tiffany Hannam-Daniels, Sophia Eleni, Danny Rahim, Tyler Winchcombe, and Nerdly genre fave Sarah T. Cohen. VFX artist Giordano Aita is on board to bring the creature to horrifying life.

Produced through Ford’s Latitude Films, Bone Keeper will be hitting the international market with sales handled by REInvent, who are teasing the first footage at Cannes.

The Lord Of The Rings' Gollum Movie Continues A 26-Year-Old Franchise Tradition With Confirmed 2027 Release Date
Image
The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum now has an official release date, and it continues a franchise trend. Based on the book series by J. R. R. Tolkien, the first live-action Lord of the Rings movie arrived in 2001 with Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. Five live-action movies later, Andy Serkis is now set to direct and star in The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, which is expected to take place during the events of Jackson's first Middle-earth adventure.

Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema now reveal that The Hunt for Gollum will release in theaters on December 17, 2027. The announcement confirms that Serkis will direct and star in the film, with Jackson, Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens producing. The Hunt for Gollum's script will hail from Walsh, Boyens, Phoebe Gittins, and Arty Papageorgiou. This new release...

‘Bone Keeper’ Digs Up New Creature Feature from Director Howard J Ford
Image
Howard J. Ford has returned to the horror genre with Bone Keeper, a new British creature feature that promises to bring claustrophobic suspense and subterranean terror to the big screen. Featuring veteran actor John Rhys-Davies, the film has just completed production and is expected to be delivered this autumn. International sales are being handled by REinvent, with first-look footage set to screen for buyers at the upcoming Cannes Film Festival.

Bone Keeper centres on six friends who enter a remote cave system in search of answers surrounding a decades-old local legend. In 1976, a man named James Wheeler disappeared while investigating strange sightings in the area, leaving behind only a single frame of Super 8 film depicting the silhouette of an unknown creature. Now, in the present day, Wheeler’s granddaughter and her companions descend into the same underground maze, intent on solving the mystery. What they find is a threat...

Liv Tyler Reveals She’d “Just Do Anything” To Return to Arwen and The Lord of the Rings Franchise
Image
In the many millennia since, literature became an avid means of escaping human toil, there have been many stories written and retold. And in the modern age, one can argue that none quite captures the imagination so wholly as J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings. In the early 2000s, director Peter Jackson adapted Tolkien's tale of the Third Age of Middle-earth, with The Fellowship of the Ring, and the subsequent two films, earning Jackson's trilogy a spot in cinematic folklore. However, that journey is not ended, as May 2024 brought with it the revelation that a new wave of movies from Middle-earth would be descending upon us soon, and Liv Tyler would very much like to be a part of it.

Tolkien's stories offered us a vast array of brilliant Elven characters to adore, and in Jackson's trilogy, Tyler's Arwen stood out. The daughter of Elrond (Hugo Weaving) and Celebrían,...

The Actor Behind The Lord Of The Ring's Beloved Elven Queen Wants To Return, But Should They?
Image
The Og "Lord of the Rings" crew has been in the news cycle a lot lately. With Warner Bros. planning new live-action J.R.R. Tolkien film adaptations, everyone is wondering who could show up again after a 20-year hiatus from Middle-earth acting.

You can count Liv Tyler among those ready to jump right back into the action. Tyler is, of course, famous for playing the Elven queen Arwen in Peter Jackson's "Lord of the Rings" film trilogy. While the character has a minor role in Tolkien's source material, Arwen is busy in the movies. She fills in for the Elf-lord Glorfindel by saving Frodo (Elijah Woods) from the Black Riders and encourages Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen) to fulfill his destiny and confront Sauron. She was even filmed in various fight sequences, including the Battle of Helm's Deep (although that was later cut during post-production).

Now, Tyler has gone on record saying...

Before Scooby-Doo, Matthew Lillard & Freddie Prinze Jr. Starred In A Forgotten Sci-Fi War Movie
Image
A generation of kids grew up watching Raja Gosnell's 2002 live-action comedy flick "Scooby-Doo," an adaptation of Hanna-Barbera's long-running Scooby-Doo cartoon shows from the 1970s. In the film, Freddy, originally voiced by Frank Welker, was played by Freddie Prinze, Jr., and Shaggy, originally voiced by Casey Kasem, was played by Matthew Lillard. Prinze was squarely in the public eye after starring in hit films like "She's All That" and "I Know What You Did Last Summer," while Lillard was famous for his turns in "Hackers," "Scream," and "Slc Punk!" Lillard, incidentally, was also in "She's All That." Both actors were very much their generation's "It" boys, and the decade proved to be very lucrative for them both.

Well, "Wing Commander" notwithstanding.

"Wing Commander" is not well-remembered by too many people. It was based on a series of 1990s "Wing Commander" video games created by Chris Roberts, who also directed the film.

'Lord of the Rings' Sean Astin Recalls Panic Attack While Shooting Peter Jackson's Trilogy
Image
While Frodo is the most popular Hobbit in Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings trilogy (based on the novels by J.R.R. Tolkien), fans are slowly coming to realize that Samwise Gamgee was the true hero of the story. Just as Frodo and Sam embarked on a perilous journey to Mount Doom, Sean Astin (who played Samwise in all three movies) recently revealed he had his own internal struggle during the film's production, one which led him to panic attacks.

Sean Astin recently reunited with his former Lord of the RIngs co-stars, Elijah Wood, Dominic Monaghan, Billy Boyd, John Rhys-Davies, and Andy Serkis, at C2E2 in Chicago. During the panel, the actor opened up about the emotional struggles he faced during the trilogy's lengthy production. "I remember at one point, most movies, even a big movie they used to be like 3 months or 4 months," Astin began. "When we got to 5 months,...

'I Can Tell You the Whole Story': Andy Serkis Updates Fans on The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt For Gollum
Image
Andy Serkis will be returning to Middle-Earth in 2027 when The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum is set to be released in movie theaters. The project was first announced in 2024 and not only will Serkis be reprising his role as Gollum/Smeagol, he will also be directing the movie, which will be produced by Peter Jackson.

Per PopVerse, during a Lord of the Rings reunion panel at the Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo (C2E2), Serkis gave an update on the progress of The Hunt for Gollum. At the panel, which also featured John Rhys-Davies, who played Gimli in the original Lord of the Rings trilogy, Rhys-Davies asked Serkis about the status of the movie.

“Andy, how’s the film coming on?” Rhys-Davies asked Serkis during the panel. To which Serkis replied, “The new film? Which new film? Not The Hunt for Gollum film. Do you want me to...

'I Don't Know What That Would Be Like': Sean Astin on What's Holding Him Back From Reprising Lotr Role in The Hunt for Gollum
Image
The heroic and faithful Hobbit, Samwise Gamgee, played by Sean Astin in the original Lord of the Ringstrilogy, proved to be a loyal friend to Frodo Baggins in his journey to destroy the Ring. The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, which will be directed by Andy Serkis, is set for a 2027 release. During an appearance on a panel moderated by ScreenRant’s Joe Deckelmeier at Washington, D.C.’s AwesomeCon, Sean Astin delved into whether he’d reprise his Samwise role.

“The idea of doing Sam again…When we did it the first time, I had no idea what the relationship of the literature was to that character. To me, it was all about what we were doing and trying to understand the ideas; just connecting on an emotional level,” Astin said.

Original 'Lord of the Rings' Cast Members Tease Possible Franchise Return
Image
More than 20 years have passed since we last saw the Fellowship of the Ring and Frodo make their epic journey to destroy the One Ring in Middle-earth. However, it appears that the original cast of The Lord of the Rings franchise is ready to go back to Middle-earth. At least, Arwen, Samwise, Legolas and Gimli could be the ones returning in the future, as their performers didn't say no when approached with the idea of reprising their roles in a future movie of Peter Jackson's epic fantasy universe.

Original cast members Liv Tyler, Sean Astin, Orlando Bloom and John Rhys-Davies appeared at an AwesomeCon panel to talk about their legacy in the original Lord of the Rings trilogy. Hosted by Screen Rant, the panel included asking them whether they could return for another movie in the franchise. The Hunt for Gollum is reportedly in development, and it could be...

Every Live-Action Version Of Marvel's Kingpin, Ranked
Image
In a world with serial killers bonded to alien symbiotes, mad scientists that have robotic appendages, and some villains are literally born in Hell, it's an impressive feat one of the Marvel universe's most feared foes is Wilson Fisk, aka the Kingpin of Crime. Debuting in Amazing Spider-Man #50 and inspired by classic Hollywood actor Sydney Greenstreet, Fisk shifted his focus to the Devil of Hell's Kitchen, trying a number of tactics to bring down Daredevil and demonstrating just how far he's willing to go to take down the Man Without Fear and a host of other heroes who thought crossing him was a good idea.

Wielding an impressive intellect, incredible physical strength, and a drive that has seen heroes' lives crumble in front of them, it stands to reason that when bringing the character to life, the star playing them had to be suitable for the role. Over the years,...

Even Die-Hard Fans Forget About This Sinister Corner of Lord of the Rings Where Sauron Rose to Power
Image
The Lord of the Ringsis a story that's rich with details. This applies to J.R.R. Tolkien's original novels and Peter Jackson's subsequent movie adaptations. Those details help explain why Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen) can't use his newfound Army of the Dead to storm Mordor, or why Gimli (John Rhys-Davies) is seemingly the only Dwarf in Middle-earth. Surprisingly, one major detail has escaped some fans' notice, and it concerns the dark lord Sauron. Sauron is as close to pure evil as one can get, using his dark influence to forge the One Ring and bind the other Rings of Power to it. Even losing his physical body didn't stop his ascent to power. Part of that ascent lies in the construction of the fortress Dol Guldur, also known as the Hill of Sorcery, where Sauron retreated to spread his influence.

10 Lord of the Rings Characters Who Suffered the Most in the Trilogy, Ranked
Image
There's a lot of triumph in The Lord of the Rings, namely, the One Ring being destroyed. To get there, the characters had to suffer a lot. Frodo's journey to Mordor was treacherous, but he wasn't alone. Even with the Fellowship disbanding, Sam rarely left his side.

While Frodo was the one who had to take the weight of the Ring's evil power, so many others had to support him in different ways. Whether through battle, or losing a loved one, the pain seemed like an endless cycle. A few characters' suffering is obvious, but others need to be highlighted for fans to remember what they went through.

Merry’s Life Changed in an Instant

In the trilogy, Merry coincidentally ends up on the road to Mordor with Frodo and the Fellowship. He wasn't aware of Middle-earth's troubles, and had to quickly come to terms with what he'd signed up for.

The Only Actor Who Has Appeared In Lord Of The Rings, The Hobbit & The Rings Of Power
Image
There are a lot of crossovers and connections within Middle-earth media. Even with completely separate projects, like Prime Video's "The Rings of Power" series and Peter Jackson's "The Lord of the Rings" and "The Hobbit" trilogies, you can see the throughlines. Some are obvious, like the similarities in Balrog design between Jackson's movies and Prime Video's show. Others are more subtle, like the ways "The Rings of Power" tries to recapture the magic of Jackson's Middle-earth movies. And then there is the human link.

Overall, there isn't too much personnel crossover between the Warner Bros. and Prime Video Middle-earth universes. However, there is one actor who has managed to pop up in both of them: Jed Brophy. Even more impressive? He managed to land full-blown character roles in all six of Jackson Middle-earth films and has since shown up on "The Rings of Power." He's even developed a...

Why Were All the Other Dwarves Absent During the War of the Ring?
Image
The Lord of the Ringsshows many different groups as they band together to save Middle-earth. The armies of Elves, Gondor, and Rohan all played a significant part in defeating Sauron, and they were not alone. Though Hobbits prefer not to leave their idyllic Shire, four join the Fellowship, becoming unlikely heroes. Even the Ents, who usually stay isolated, take action by destroying the enemies at Isengard. Yet one important group is missing. Surprisingly, Gimli (John Rhys-Davies) is the only Dwarf to have a notable role in the film. In Middle-earth, Dwarves are a proud race known for their mining and craftsmanship. The Hobbittrilogy introduces several Dwarves to fans, showing them to be valuable allies, but The Lord of the Rings doesn't make use of them.

New The Lord Of The Rings: The Hunt For Gollum Release Date Confirmed By Andy Serkis
Image
When it comes to adaptations, Tolkien fans are used to waiting. There was a nine-year gap between the "The Return of the King" and "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey." Ten years passed between "The Hobbit" trilogy and last year's "The War of the Rohirrim" anime prequel. Even serialized Middle-earth moves slowly, with "The Rings of Power" taking nearly two years between each season of its Second Age show. I guess it's worth pointing out that none of this is quite as slow as Professor Tolkien himself, who took decades to produce new writing during his life and often didn't even publish things he wrote. Still, it's a fact that things in this fandom move slowly.

The sluggish nature of Tolkien adaptations means it was hardly a surprise when it was revealed that Warner Bros.' upcoming live-action Middle-earth prequel "The Hunt for Gollum" is going to take longer than expected to slink into theaters.

Back to the Future, Star Trek & Lord of the Rings Stars Unite in Epic Photo

Arguably, three of the most popular franchises in recent (or past or future) memory are Back to the Future, The Lord of the Rings, and Star Trek, and the stars of all three recently appeared at a Vancouver convention. Christopher Lloyd, John Rhys-Davies, and William Shatner all appeared at the recent Fan Expo Vancouver and posed for an iconic photo together.

Lloyd, who played Dr. Emmett “Doc” Brown in the Back to the Future trilogy, posted an epic photo to the social media site X that featured himself, Star Trek’s Captain James T. Kirk (Shatner), and The Lord of the Rings trilogy’s Gimli (Davies). Lloyd captioned the picture: “The final frontier, the future, or middle-earth…your choice.”

J. R. R. Tolkien, the author of The Lord of the Rings, was obsessed with languages both real and fictional. He constructed several languages for the various cultures of his Middle-earth stories, most famously the Elvish languages of Sindarin and Quenya. They were as deep and complex as real-world languages, and he even charted their fictional evolution over history as the groups that spoke them splintered apart and diverged from one another. There are entire books and websites dedicated to documenting the extensive vocabulary and grammar of Tolkien's Elvish languages. However, some of Middle-earth's languages were far more obscure than those spoken by the Elves. For example, The Lord of the Rings did not feature much of...

As friendly as Hollywood makes these animals seem, they have proven to be excellent villains. In anticipation of the Stephen King film The Monkey, here are ten of cinema's most terrifying simians.

Lotr Star John Rhys-Davies: Fox Kicked Me Out of Their Show Because I Refused To Say the “Incomprehensible gibberish” the Writers Wrote For Me

By the time Sliders concluded, most of the original core was gone, starting with John Rhys-Davies’ exit in the middle of season 3. The actor, who was notable for his longstanding television and film career, including the gig of Sallah in the Indiana Jones franchise, played Professor Arturo in the show.

Why Did Aragorn Stay in Middle-earth After He Became King in ‘The Lord of the Rings’?
Image
One of the most interesting debates in The Lord of the Rings lore is about who gets to go to the Undying Lands, especially after the end of The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. Bilbo (Ian Holm), Frodo (Elijah Wood), and Sam (Sean Astin) all get to go with Gandalf (Ian McKellen), followed by Legolas (Orlando Bloom) and Gimli (John Rhys-Davies) later on, but Merry (Dominic Monaghan), Pippin (Billy Boyd), and Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen) are never allowed to sail into the West. Especially in Aragorn's case, this seems a little unfair, given his crucial role in the Fellowship of the Ring, but it actually makes a lot of sense in his story that he stays in Middle-earth.

There Is Much More to the Gift Galadriel Gives Gimli in ‘Fellowship of the Ring’ Than You Know
Image
The Lord of the Rings is filled with heartwarming moments, but one of the best didn't make it into the theatrical cut of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. Upon their departure from Lothlórien, Galadriel (Cate Blanchett) gives each member of the Fellowship a special gift to aid in their journey, except for Gimli (John Rhys-Davies). For him, she gives three strands of her hair, making for a moment that, for those who aren't familiar with J.R.R. Tolkien lore, may seem weird, but that carries a lot of personal significance for both of them and Tolkien's whole Legendarium.

Harrison Ford Talks ‘Indiana Jones And The Dial Of Destiny’s Flop: “S— Happens”
Image
Although many Indiana Jones fans were unhappy with the last installment, Harrison Ford has made his peace with the character.

The Oscar nominee recently shared his reaction to Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny‘s unsuccessful 2023 opening after taking one last adventure as the titular archaeologist in the James Mangold-helmed sequel.

“S— happens,” he told WSJ. Magazine of the film’s poor box office performance. “I was really the one who felt there was another story to tell. When [Indy] had suffered the consequences of the life that he had to live, I wanted one more chance to pick him up and shake the dust off his ass and stick him out there, bereft of some of his vigor, to see what happened.”

Ford added, “I’m still happy I made that movie.”

Dial of Destiny came amid a particularly rough 2023 for Disney, losing about $143 million on the...

'S— Happens': Harrison Ford Takes the Blame for Indiana Jones 5 Flopping, But Has No Regrets
Image
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny remains a low point for the Indiana Jones franchise and its leading man, Harrison Ford, ending the beloved adventure film series on a whimper. Though Ford is disappointed by the sequel's performance, he insists he has no regrets about making the 2023 blockbuster.

Speaking with The Wall Street Journal, Ford addressed Dial of Destiny's box-office struggles, with the movie marking his last turn as the eponymous archeologist and thrill seeker. Ford admits he gambled on Dial of Destiny, insisting he wanted to tell one more story centered around his lead character. Though he takes some blame for its underwhelming performance, Ford doesn't feel he made a mistake doing the later Indiana Jones film.

Harrison Ford Talks About 'Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny' Flopping
Image
Harrison Ford has a reputation in Hollywood for telling it like it is and appearing to take just about anything in stride. It's a personality trait that has made him one of the most beloved people in the industry, and he continues to be the guy we can all rely on when discussing the box office failure of 2023's Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. If it's something that bothered him, the actor isn't showing it. In fact, his response is very on-brand.

During an interview with The Wall Street Journal Magazine, Ford was asked about the box office disappointment of the fifth Indiana Jones film, and the actor, who gives a very gruff and direct answer to begin his response, does admit that he's still very happy he made the film.

Ancient Historian Rates 'The Lord of the Rings' Battle as Historically Accurate
Image
The battle scenes in Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings trilogy are among some of the greatest in cinema history. The Battle of Helm's Deep in The Two Towers and the Ride of the Rohirrim and the final Battle of the Pelennor Fields from Return of the King are fan favorites due to their grand scale, brilliant visual effects, and standout performances from the entire cast. But, you might be surprised to learn that the battles in J.R.R. Tolkien's seminal fantasy world are historically accurate.

Ancient historian, Roel Konijnendijk, sat down with Insider to rate battle scenes from movies, including The Lord of the Rings. He was shown several battles from The Return of the King, and surprisingly had high praise for them in terms of accuracy. He began with the endlessly quoted "Ride Now" scene from the Ride of the Rohirrim. "Him slapping the lances with his sword,...

Jason Statham Starred In One Of The Worst Video Game Movie Flops Of All Time
Image
Director Uwe Boll has a reputation as one of the worst film directors of all time. In the mid-2000s, he helmed a string of well-publicized but critically savaged video game adaptations that immediately sunk to the bottom of cineastes' estimations. In 2003, he made "House of the Dead," and followed that in 2005 with both "Alone in the Dark" and "BloodRayne." He chased those with "In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale," "BloodRayne 2: Deliverance," and "Postal" all in 2007, and capped off his run in 2008 with "Far Cry." Fans of the games on which those films are based were incensed that Boll should so clumsily handle the source material, and fans of the cinematic medium were incensed that

Despite his critical reputation, Boll has remained prolific, sometimes helming multiple pictures a year. He directed "First Shift" and "Bandidos" in 2024, and is set to release "Run" in 2025.

John Rhys-Davies Was the Perfect Gimli, But He Nearly Played a Very Different Character in The Lord of the Rings
Image
Quick Links John Rhys-Davies Was Not Optimistic About The Lord of the Rings Peter Jackson Won John Rhys-Davies Over

Welsh actor John Rhys-Davies has played several iconic roles over the years. Before the turn of the millennium, he was best known in the pop-cultural zeitgeist as Sallah from the Indiana Jones series, but that changed with the release of Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings film trilogy in the early 2000s. Rhys-Davies portrayed Gimli, the only Dwarven member of the Fellowship and a frequent source of comic relief. Though the plot did not place much focus on Gimli or Legolas, their rivalry turned friendship was one of the highlights of the trilogy.

Rhys-Davies' comedic delivery often stole the show, but he gave an equally excellent performance during serious scenes, such as when Gimli discovered Balin's tomb in the Mines of Moria. For most fans of The Lord of the Rings,...

Beloved 90s Sci-Fi Show Star Pitches Reboot Idea (With One Caveat)
Image
A star from a beloved 1990s sci-fi show pitches a reboot idea, but with one caveat. The genre of science-fiction flourished on television during the 1990s, offering audiences imaginative explorations of futuristic technology and alien encounters. Star Trek: The Next Generation, which ended in 1994, set a high bar for sci-fi, while its spin-offs, Deep Space Nine and Voyager, expanded the franchise's universe. Meanwhile, The X-Files captivated viewers with its blend of government conspiracies, paranormal phenomena, and the chemistry between its two leads, Mulder and Scully, becoming a cultural phenomenon.

The era also saw the rise of more diverse sci-fi narratives, such as the epic storytelling of Babylon 5, which helped pioneer serialized television arcs. Stargate Sg-1 debuted in 1997, blending military drama with intergalactic adventure, while Farscape (1999) offered a darker and more surreal take on space exploration. Amid these series, Sliders stood out for its concept of parallel worlds, with each...

Disney Just Fixed a Big Indiana Jones Problem With Surprise Disney+ Update
Image
Last fall, fans of Harrison Ford's Indiana Jones movie series were left frustrated when all four of the films directed by Steven Spielberg were inexplicably removed from Disney+. In the months since, only Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny was available to stream, but that frustrating problem has finally been rectified.

Per What's On Disney Plus, all four Spielberg-helmed films are now streaming again on the Disney+ platform. The reason for their temporary removal is that Paramount Pictures still holds the rights to those movies, and it would appear that the Disney+ streaming license has been renewed. This puts all five of the films starring Ford back together again on one platform, though it should be noted that the classic films are still not available yet on Disney+ internationally. It's also unclear how long this new streaming agreement will last, which may eventually lead to the movies...

12 Scary Shark Movies Inspired By Real Events
Image
Bloody jaws, treacherous fins sticking out of the water, and a killer stare are the standard staples of shark attack movies. Monster thriller/horror is a celebrated genre and while it may not be as mainstream as sci-fi or romance, it still has a staunch following. Breakthrough classics like Jaws and Deep Blue Sea have set a precedent that has instilled a generational fear among watchers regarding these majestic creatures.

It’s safe to say that viewers have at least once felt that the things depicted in shark movies are real or bound to happen to someone at some point. Although not all sharks in the sea are looking to devour human flesh, most facts in such movies are for entertainment purposes only. However, the audience would be surprised to know that several popular titles in the genre are more or less based on actual events.

The Best Scene in 'Raiders of the Lost Ark' Happened Because Harrison Ford Got Sick
Image
What’s Harrison Ford’s best movie character? Strong cases can be made for both Han Solo and Indiana Jones. Even Red Hulk might be in contention in the future, but there’s no doubt that Jones appeals to a broader audience. George Lucas created the character as a homage to the action heroes of 1930s film serials, and since the '80s, he has been equally adored by adults and children.

Moana 2 is unaffected by the release of Mufasa: The Lion King, another Disney movie. Although Mufasa seems to be heading for an underwhelming debut at the US box office, Dwayne Johnson’s movie has surpassed the domestic haul of The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers. The film, however, had weaker legs than Wicked. Scroll below for more.

Two new movies have arrived at the theatres – Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Mufasa: The Lion King this Friday. However, the exhibitors did not predict much impact on the Moana sequel because of them. Its biggest competition is Wicked, as it managed to take away the #1 spot from the Disney sequel several times at the US box office.

'The Lord of the Rings' Screenwriter Explains Gandalf's "You Shall Not Pass!" Change From Tolkien's Books
Image
As incredible as Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings trilogy is, it's not a completely faithful adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's novels. The movie does away with many of the songs written by Tolkien, and one of the franchise's most beloved characters, Tom Bombadil. But, the movies also improved on Tolkien's world in many ways. One of the standout changes alters a single word from a line of dialogue, and it transformed it into one of the most memorable movie lines in cinema history.

Speaking to Jake's Takes, Lord of the Rings' screenwriter Philippa Boyens discussed the Mines of Moria sequence from The Fellowship of the Ring, and explained why they changed Gandalf's most iconic line. Facing down the Balrog, Ian McKellen's grey wizard shouts the iconic phrase "You shall not pass!", before slamming down his staff and destroying the bridge. But the line is actually different in the novel.

How Brett Goldstein Could Work As Hagrid In HBO's Harry Potter Remake
Image
The news that Brett Goldstein may take on the role of Hagrid in HBO's Harry Potter is definitely exciting, yet some viewers may already be wondering how the actor will become the beloved half-giant. Back in 2023, Warner Bros. revealed that they would be developing a Harry Potter TV show alongside HBO. There is plenty to look forward to with this series, which will give every book its own season, yet there are a lot of obstacles to overcome too. For one, the show must work hard to make its cast look and feel like the original characters.

Although HBO's Harry Potter is still a long way off, Deadline recently reported which actors are being eyed for certain Harry Potter roles. One rumor is that Goldstein may be cast as Hagrid. There is little doubt that Goldstein is a talented performer who can toe the line between comedy and drama, yet...

A Lord Of The Rings Actor Wants To Return To The Star Trek Universe
Image
In Peter Jackson's 2001 fantasy epic "The Lord of he Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring," actor John Rhys-Davies played the role of Gimli the Dwarf, an axe-wielding warrior who served as a gruff, comedic counterpoint to the otherwise po-faced and poised characters. Rhys-Davies reprised the role in the two follow-up films, as well as in several "Lord of the Rings" spinoff video games. He also played ancillary characters like Gloin and Treebeard. His association with "Lord of the Rings" would be an impressive pop milestone for any actor, but Rhys-Davies has also enjoyed a hugely long career with appearances in dozens of other notable pop properties over several decades.

In addition to "Lord of the Rings," Rhys-Davies has costarred in several Indiana Jones movies (including "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny"), voiced characters in high-profile Disney films, and acted in dozens of fun horror movies and adventure flicks.

"A Hundred Square Miles Underwater": Gimli Star Recalls Lord Of The Rings Filming Shutdown Due To Insane Weather
Image
While attending Fan Expo in San Francisco, Gimli actor John Rhys-Davies praises Peter Jackson's handling of an intense rainstorm during the filming of The Lord of the Rings. Based on the book series by author J.R.R Tolkien, Jackson's trilogy remains a beloved and acclaimed adaptation, with the three movies chronicling Frodo's epic quest to destroy the One Ring. The trilogy was filmed in its entirety in New Zealand and is largely responsible for kickstarting the island nation's film production capabilities.

During a recent interview with Screen Rant at Fan Expo, Rhys-Davies reveals that the New Zealand filming wasn't without its challenges, recalling one occasion in which the Lord of the Rings' production was halted due to some extreme rain. The actor highlights the immense size of the production in terms of its cast and crew before sharing some touching praise for Jackson and how he not only navigated these specific weather challenges,...

This 1990s Sci-Fi Show With 5 Seasons Is Criminally Overlooked & Deserves Another Watch
Image
When it comes to 1990s science fiction television, there are heavyweight hits like Star Trek: The Next Generation, The X Files, or Babylon 5 – and then, there are the plucky underdogs like Sliders. The 1995 show followed Quinn Mallory (Jerry O’Connell), a brilliant physics graduate student who accidentally invents a device capable of opening "sliding" portals to parallel worlds.

Along with his biology professor Maximilian Arturo (John Rhys-Davies), his best friend Wade Wells (Sabrina Lloyd), and unwitting lounge-singer-turned-adventurer Rembrandt Brown (Cleavant Derricks), the group becomes trapped in the multiverse, sliding from one alternate Earth to another in a desperate attempt to find their way home. With five seasons and a premise that proved to be ahead of its time, Sliders is a forgotten gem of sci-fi television that deserves more recognition — and definitely another watch.

10 Oscar-Nominated Films That Aged Better Than the Winner

The Academy Awards are widely accepted as the most important and influential awards body in the film industry, marking some of the most critically and commercially successful films of the year and celebrating the art of cinema. Though the nominees and winners are selected by a wide panel of voters from across the industry, sometimes it is easy to look back and see the flaws in the Academy's decisions.

Often, movies that win Best Picture at the Oscars do not hold up nearly as well as some of their fellow nominees. Over the years, audience and critical opinions have shifted, and many believe that different films should have won the Academy Awards' top prize.
