Scott Reynolds was born in Auckland, New Zealand in 1968. Both of his parents worked in Hollywood Cinema in the suburbs of Auckland. One of his first memories was seeing The Incredible Shrinking Man (1957) and A Fistful of Dollars (1964), an experiment at the origin of his obsession for the world of film. As a teenager, he started to work as projectionist in Hollywood Cinema, and this was his way of studying the process of movie-making. His principal influences are Kubrick, Scorsese, Raimi and Hitchcock. His first short film "The Minute" was carried out in 1992 and was selected for the London Film Festival. His second short film A Game with No Rules (1994) was completed in 1994 and was officially selected for "Un Certain Regard" at Cannes Film Festival. He gained the Gold Palm in the drama category at the Chicago Film Festival. The first film of Scott Reynolds, The Ugly (1997), is a suspense film made in Auckland and released in 1997.

    • Quotes
I love to be scared, I love terrifying sequences and edge of your seat suspense. To sum it up, I love films - plain and simple. I was a film-fan before I was a film-maker. I have sat in audiences where we all shivered and screamed, so the major reason why I wanted to make this film [The Ugly (1997)] is that I can sit down in a room where I make the audience shiver and scream.
