Mike Flanagan
The Life Of Chuck | Full trailer lands
Mike Flanagan
Mike Flanagan’s upcoming take on the Stephen King novel The Life Of Chuck has a new trailer – and an August UK release date.

Off the back of last year’s Toronto International Film Festival, there was a feeling that Mike Flanagan’s upcoming adaptation of the Stephen King novel The Life Of Chuck could be something really rather good. The film won TIFF’s coveted People’s Choice Award, leading to buzz that the film would go on to earn a Best Picture nomination at the Academy Awards, given that 12 of the last 14 winners have gone on to do so.

That ultimately wouldn’t happen because the film’s US distributor Neon – presumably busy running a campaign to get Sean Baker’s Anora a Best Picture Oscar – elected to give the film a May 2025 release slot. While that date doesn’t suggest that Neon thinks The Life Of Chuck...

Loki Star Tom Hiddleston Creates A Universe In Full Trailer For Mike Flanagan's The Life Of Chuck
Image
“Every year that you live, that world will get bigger and brighter. And more detailed, and complex. You fill the whole thing. It'll be a universe."

Following a brief teaser, a poster and some promo stills, Neon has finally given us a proper look at Mike Flanagan's latest Stephen King adaptation, The Life of Chuck, which stars Tom Hiddleston in the lead role.

Though King is (obviously) best-known for his work in the horror genre, he has penned some notable sci-fi, fantasy, and even straightforward drama stories. The Life of Chuck is based on the legendary author's 2020 novella, and while it does contain some sci-fi elements, it is most definitely not a horror tale.

The movie had its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 6, 2024, where it won the People's Choice Award. Positive reviews followed, and the film currently sits at 87% on Rotten Tomatoes.

The Life of Chuck has been described as,...

Neon shares emotional trailer for Mike Flanagan's emotional epic The Life of Chuck
Mike Flanagan
Well, Mike Flanagan has done it again. He's taken a Stephen King book and adapted it for the big screen, and the first trailer makes it look like The Life of Chuck is going to be a genuinely emotional epic.

In The Life of Chuck, Tom Hiddleston stars as Chuck Krantz, with the story told in reverse, sort of like The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. The saga begins with Chuck's death and goes back in time to his early childhood. Neon shared the official trailer, which is embedded above.

As you can see from some of the selected pull quotes featured in the trailer, critics are loving The Life of Chuck, with some even going so far as to call it the best King adaptation yet.

Hiddleston shares the role of Chuck with Jacob Tremblay, Cody Flanagan, and Benjamin Pajak. Mark Hamill and Mia Sara play Chuck's grandparents, and...

The Life of Chuck trailer: Mike Flanagan’s new Stephen King movie reaches theatres in June
Tom Hiddleston in The Life of Chuck (2024)

JoBlo’s own Chris Bumbray got to see the movie a while back (you can read his 7/10 review Here) and described it as a “bittersweet tearjerker.” A teaser trailer dropped online a month ago, now a full trailer has arrived and you can watch it in the embed above!

Based on the short story from King’s 2020 anthology If It Bleeds, The Life of Chuck consists of three separate stories linked to tell the biography of Charles Krantz in reverse, beginning with his death...

Mike Flanagan's New Stephen King Adaptation The Life of Chuck Debuts Official Trailer
Image
Mike Flanagan has worked on several Stephen King adaptations, with a new one set to premiere soon. The Life of Chuck is the third adaptation after 2017's Gerald's Game and 2019's Doctor Sleep.

The Life of Chuck had its world premiere in September 2024 at the Toronto International Film Festival, and it snatched an important award, the People's Choice Award. The new Mike Flanagan-Stephen King collaboration is set to adapt the latter's 2020 novella of the same name, which follows the life of an ordinary man named Charles Krantz. After a brief teaser last month, Neon has officially introduced the official trailer ahead of the film's May premiere.

The teaser trailer previously released further hyped up the story, raising more questions about the upcoming sci-fi drama. However, the new The Life of Chuck trailer introduces its star-studded cast and also teases at one of the most-anticipated scenes: the dancing scene. The less-than-two-minute...

This Divisive Unholy Horror Thriller Leaves Hulu Soon—Don’t Miss It
Image
More often than not, the reaction from the moviegoing public seems to parallel the critical response to a given picture. This isn’t a hard and fast rule. However, it’s still safe to say that critics and film lovers align more often than not.

I imagine that comes down to the fact that a good movie is a good movie. Full stop. The key difference between a critic and your average movie lover is that the critic might have an easier time articulating what makes the film good. However, almost anyone who appreciates cinema can tell the difference between a dud and a gem. Accordingly, it makes a lot of sense that film scholars and movie buffs often see eye to eye in their respective ratings.

There are exceptions to every trend, of course. Mickey Reece’s 2021 horror film Agnes is one such example. The film has a 68% ‘fresh...

Dylan O'Brien's 10 Best Movies And TV Shows
Image
Everyone’s favorite Teen Wolf sidekick is Stiles Stilinski, and without Dylan O’Brien, Stiles would not be nearly as well-known of a character, making Teen Wolf one of Dylan O’Brien’s best movies and TV shows. O’Brien got his big break with Teen Wolf after making videos and sharing them online. Since he got that big break in 2011, O’Brien has gone on to have a varied career in Hollywood.

O’Brien did not use Teen Wolf to jump into other high school or teen projects, which was likely a good decision on his part. Because of that, he is not simply known as a teen actor or someone whose best roles are all in his teen years. Instead, O’Brien has had a variety of action, comedy, drama, and thriller roles that show his versatility as an actor and make up his best movies and TV shows.

Will We Ever Get a ‘We’re the Millers 2’?
Image
Touting a sensational cast of Hollywood greats led by Jennifer Aniston, Jason Sudeikis, Emma Roberts, and Will Poulter, the raunchy and wonderfully ridiculous 2013 black comedy We're the Millers famously follows a small-time pot dealer who hatches a fool-proof plan to smuggle drugs across the border by hiring his colorful neighbors to pose as his loving, normal family. The R-rated farce became a surprise sleeper hit and dominated the box office, grossing $270 million and garnering four People's Choice Award nominations while serving up endless sidesplitting humor and hijinks for fans.

Unsurprisingly, a sequel was quickly greenlit shortly after its dazzling theatrical run in 2014, yet despite the cast and crew being eager to reprise their eccentric roles, We're the Millers 2 still hasn't come to fruition. Is there still a chance that audiences will get to reunite with the beloved fake family, or is a sequel truly D.O.A. over 12 years since the original's debut?...

Interview: Castle, Scare Tactics & Life of Chuck star Molly C. Quinn Sits Down With JoBlo To Discuss Her Career
Image
I’ve been very fortunate in my career here at JoBlo to chat with various actors for extended times about their careers. Getting to go over Weird Science with Anthony Michael Hall is still a life highlight. Getting to talk about a wide variety of projects versus just the most recent one that they’re promoting provides insight that we otherwise wouldn’t receive. So I was very grateful to be able to sit down for an interview with Mike Flanagan regular Molly C. Quinn to talk about her unique career.

Being a massive Flanagan fan, Molly and I geeked out a bit about the sheer brilliance of the writer/director. Really, this was just a great excuse to be able to gush about a filmmaker I admire with someone who knows his work on a personal level. Molly gives some really insightful answers and this feels far from the...

Molly C. Quinn is back for another humorous and surreal mystery in Unlicensed season 2. Mike Flanagan's 2025 Stephen King Movie Gets Rave Review From Star After Award-Winning Festival Run: "It's Near & Dear To His Heart"
Image
Stephen King and Mike Flanagan's 2025 movie continues to receive more praise. Flanagan has adapted multiple King stories and is in the process of adapting more of the acclaimed author's works as well. King's 1992 novel Gerald's Game was adapted by Flanagan in 2017, with the movie's cast led by Carla Gugino and Bruce Greenwood. In 2019, Flanagan also helmed a film adaptation of Doctor Sleep, the sequel to King's iconic horror novel The Shining.

Since 2022, Flanagan has been confirmed to be developing a television series adaptation of Stephen King's Dark Tower. While there was a Dark Tower movie released in 2017, it was poorly received by critics and general audiences, leading to Flanagan working on developing a more faithful rendition of King's beloved book series. Flanagan is also developing an eight-episode miniseries adaptation of King's first published novel, Carrie, for Amazon. While there have been multiple movie adaptations of Carrie, this will be...

Jason Sudeikis Comedy 'We're the Millers' is Netflix Streaming Hit
Image
We're the Millers, starring Jason Sudeikis, is one of the most underrated comedies of all time, and it has been trending on Netflix's Top 10 most-viewed films this week, ranking seventh, just behind Mary and The Star. Ted Lasso may have showcased Jason Sudeiki's comedic timing and acting abilities, but he has played several interesting roles throughout his career, the most noteworthy of which was David Clark in the aforementioned comedy.

Released in 2013, We're the Millers also stars Jennifer Aniston, Emma Roberts, and Will Poulter and was added to Netflix on December 1. In an age when people flock to the most recent releases, the amusing comedy film has managed to make it into the top ten for the week. Thankfully, Netflix's inclusion would allow more people to discover this underappreciated comedy gem, spreading its worth far beyond monetary success.

The 2013 comedy hit follows Sudeikis' David Clark, a small-time pot dealer...

Neon Sets Summer Release Date for Mike Flanagan’s ‘The Life of Chuck’

Mike Flanagan (Gerald’s Game, Doctor Sleep) showcases the more sentimental side of Stephen King with The Life of Chuck, based on the short story from King’s 2020 anthology If It Bleeds. Neon has officially set a release date for the new King adaptation.

The Life of Chuck will be released in theaters on May 30, 2025.

TIFF’s People’s Choice Award winner is split in three separate acts, all linked to tell the biography of Charles Krantz in reverse. “It’s a Stand By Me for the multiple lives within each of us, pulled between our dreams and down-to-earth pragmatism.” Tom Hiddleston plays the title character.

Mike Flanagan’s The Life Of Chuck sets summer release date
Tom Hiddleston in The Life of Chuck (2024)
The Life Of Chuck, based on Stephen King’s novel and directed by Mike Flanagan, is confirmed for a 2025 release.

Coming out of this year’s Toronto International Film Festival, there was a feeling that Mike Flanagan’s upcoming adaptation of the Stephen King novel The Life Of Chuck could be an awards contender. Not only is this year’s race for Best Picture said to be one of the most open we’ve had for years, but The Life Of Chuck would win TIFF’s coveted People’s Choice Award, historically a strong indicator that a film would go on to earn a Best Picture nomination at the Academy Awards. Twelve of the last 14 winners have gone on to do so.

The film’s US distributor Neon, however, has instead elected to give the film a May 2025 release slot according to Deadline. Not only does that preclude the film...

Image
Exclusive: Before filming got underway last month on action film The Beast, Renny Harlin (Cliffhanger) came aboard as director, taking over from the previously announced James Madigan (The Meg second unit director).

The team is halfway through an eight-week shoot in Madrid and Spain’s Canary Islands. As we previously revealed, Samuel L. Jackson (Pulp Fiction), Joel Kinnaman (Suicide Squad) and Guy Burnet (Oppenheimer) are starring.

The project had been due to start in early September but was pushed back a little due to LED stages needing further tech prep, we’re told. No reason was given for Madigan’s exit.

The film’s title refers to a presidential limousine nicknamed “The Beast” by the Secret Service. In the movie, when a militia of unidentified hostiles coordinates a coup against the U.S., the president (Jackson) uncovers the extent of The Beast’s highly classified offensive capabilities.

Image
Medical examiners are often forgotten about in film and television, as the more glamorous role of detective is usually centered in crime stories. However, there are certain TV shows that feature strong medical examiner characters, sometimes even putting them in the role of protagonist. Many of the most exciting crime dramas give their doctors and scientists the chance to step outside the lab and see what it's like in the field.

Though not every crime show is a procedural, many of them fall into this genre. Some of the best TV procedurals came out in the 2000s when the genre was branching out to include crime, medical dramas, and much more. Almost every procedural that focuses on violence and utilizes the murder-of-the-week formula will have a medical...

The Life of Chuck Isn't Your Average Stephen King Adaptation
Image
The Life of Chuck was a novella first published in Stephen King's collection "If It Bleeds," and, if there was a stand-out, it was the story that caught filmmaker Mike Flanagan's attention. The story shares the best quality of King's work, tackling some heavy subject matter with a whole lot of heart. Now, Flanagan's film adaptation has premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 6, and pulled in some strong reviews as a result.

Vanity Fair spoke with Flanagan and lead star Tom Hiddleston at the TIFF, and both believe that the new adaptation is something special, but also something very different to the usual kind of movies associated with one of the world's greatest living writers. And, given the cast's comments on it in the past few months (including A Nightmare on Elm Street's Heather Langenkamp), it's easy to believe them. In Hiddleston's words:

The Life of Chuck First Reviews Praise 'Best' Stephen King Adaptation
Image
The first reviews for Mike Flanagan's The Life of Chuck are coming out of the Toronto International Film Festival and, for the most part, they're glowing. The movie has scored an impressive 80% Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes from its first 10 views. This is perhaps not too surprising considering Flanagan's impeccable record, which features no "rotten" projects at all.

Flanagan's King adaptations have led the way for the director's feature films, with Gerald's Game scoring a 91% Tomatometer score, while Doctor Sleep scored 79% and has only seen its reputation grow over the last few years. But The Life of Chuck might be the highest scoring adaptation of them all once the film's general reviews start to pile in. Certainly, those who have seen the movie during the TIFF have been mostly impressed with what they have seen. For instance, Collider's Jason Gorber felt it was one of the best Stephen King adaptations to date,...

Mike Flanagan Reveals the Horror Movies That Scare Him the Most
Image
Mike Flanagan has created some top-tier horror for film and television, but he admits to not being a big fan of horror growing up. He eventually gained an appreciation for the genre as a filmmaker, directing films like Doctor Sleep and miniseries like The Fall of the House of Usher. In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Flanagan admits he's jaded towards most of today's horror films, but says a couple of films still scare him to death.

It took a while for Flanagan to warm up to horror movies. "I couldnt watch horror movies as a kid," the Oculus director said. "They scared me too much." That changed for him in 1988, when the Stephen King It miniseries aired on ABC, and initially "traumatized" him. However, he eventually became a King fan, and is now adapting his work to film. His latest movie, The Life of Chuck , is based...

Stephen King Nearly Rejected Mike Flanagan Directing The Life of Chuck
Image
Mike Flanagan also didn't direct The Life of Chuck. Ahead of the movie's TIFF premiere, the filmmaker opened up about how author Stephen King almost prevented him from adapting his 2020 novella, which was published as part of the collection If It Bleeds.

Speaking with Vanity Fair, which debuted several first look images of The Life of Chuck, Flanagan explained how King usually "doesnt like to give the same filmmaker more than one thing, because it typically means one thing is not advancing at all." Since Flanagan had already acquired the rights to King's fantasy saga The Dark Tower with Trevor Macy, King was hesitant to let the filmmaker hop aboard another adaptation, out of fear that The Dark Tower would be put on the back burner. "He said, 'Well, lets focus on The Tower and Ill try to keep this one available for you for later,'" Flanagan recalled.
