'Bakugan' Live-Action Movie To Be Directed by 'Rampage's Brad Peyton
Image
The world of toy-based movies is expanding even further. After the breakout success of Greta Gerwig's Barbie, it feels like every toy you once played with in your youth is being brought to the big screen. With brands like Matchbox and even Barney the Dinosaur getting new feature film adaptations, the floodgates have officially opened, as the next beloved children's toy to be given its own live-action movie will be Bakugan.

Per Deadline, a live-action Bakugan movie is currently in the works from Spin Master Corp., the company who own the rights to the Bakugan IP. The new movie has already found its core staff, with Brad Peyton set to write, produce, and direct. This won't be his first time turning a beloved game into a live-action feature, as he previously directed the Dwayne Johnson-led video game adaptation, Rampage, back in 2018. Peyton was also behind Johnson's 2015 disaster flick,...

Trouble Strikes as ‘Bakugan’ Live-Action in the Works With Rampage Director
Image
It is the era of game adaptations and we’re all living in it and Bakugan, in this case, is no exception to that. Like Digimon and Beyblade, the franchise is branching out into different ventures altogether.

Other than that, it is regarded as one of the most successful toy franchises among children. From cards to figurines, it left no stone unturned in becoming a multifaceted game company. But that is not the end of it all.

This is especially true for its upcoming live-action movie. The film is said to be directed by Brad Peyton and is officially in the works. And though it sounds promising, there is a catch to that as well.

Fans worry that the adaptation might be deemed lackluster in most aspects. This circles back to his past project Rampage which garnered mixed reviews.

Prime Video Is Breathing New Life Into A Dwayne Johnson-Led Video Game Movie
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

One of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's biggest hits has found new life on Amazon Prime Video nearly seven years after it originally hit theaters. Based on the arcade video game classic of the same name, 2018's "Rampage" is currently sitting firmly in the top ten on the streamer's most-watched movie charts. It seems like people love watching Johnson fight big monsters.

As of this writing, director Brad Peyton's "Rampage" is sitting at number nine on Prime Video's charts, according to FlixPatrol. Will Ferrell and Reese Witherspoon's new comedy "You're Cordially Invited" is still firmly sitting in the number one spot, but the fact that a movie that came out years ago and has no obvious reason to be performing better than any other action fare currently available to subscribers is noteworthy. Then again, we regularly see movies...

Dwayne Johnson's $428M Video Game Adaptation Coming To New Streaming Home Later This Month
Image
A Dwayne Johnsonaction movie that grossed $428 million is getting a new streaming home. Decades after making his WWE debut, Johnson is now one of the most recognizable movie stars on the planet. Following his jump to acting, Johnson appeared in a number of action movies, like The Rundown (2003), Faster (2010), Fast Five (2011), Snitch (2013), and Pain & Gain (2013). More recently, Johnson has embraced more family-friendly fare, but that doesn't mean he's left his action roots behind.

The mid and late 2010s saw the release of a handful of classic Johnson action movies, but the budgets got larger and they became action blockbusters instead of genre movies in the mid-budget space, reflecting the actor's growing star power. In addition to several Fast & Furious movies, Johnson starred in San Andreas in 2015 before going on to have a big year in 2018, starring in two buzzy titles. One of these titles was Skyscraper, which was ultimately a disappointment,...

Big Clayface Update Shared As More Details On Lobo's Supergirl: Woman Of Tomorrow Role Are Revealed
Image
Last month, DC Studios announced plans for a Clayface movie that will arrive in theaters on September 11, 2026. Midnight Mass and Doctor Sleep's Mike Flanagan has penned the screenplay, though no director or star has been announced.

According to scooper @MyTimeToShineH, a director is expected to be chosen early this month with shooting potentially beginning either at the end of this month or by February.

That's a very quick turnaround, though DC Studios co-ceo and Superman director James Gunn did recently share, "Exciting news out of [DC] Studios today as [Clayface], a Dcu story from a script by Mike Flanagan, has been Officially greenlit. Clayface premieres in 2026."

With the script ready to shoot and the project expected to be a relatively low-budget one, it likely won't take long to find a director and cast (all of whom may already be in talks).

Why is Clayface shooting so soon? Well, the majority...

Deadpool 2 Director Wants To Helm Jason Momoa Lobo Movie; New Supergirl: Woman Of Tomorrow Details Land
Image
The news broke yesterday that Aquaman star Jason Momoa will play the Dcu's Lobo.

The actor first played Arthur Curry in 2016's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and later reprised the role in Justice League (2017), Aquaman (2018), Peacemaker (2022), The Flash (2023) and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom (2023).

The latter was poorly received and grossed a disappointing $439 million worldwide compared to the $1 billion earned by its predecessor. The sequel marking his final appearance as Aquaman was no secret but whether he'd get a second chance in the Dcu as Lobo was left up in the air.

Sharing an excerpt from a ComicBookMovie.com article, Momoa announced his casting as The Main Man on Instagram. James Gunn later welcomed him to the Dcu and the trades confirmed that he'll first play Lobo in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.

Multiple attempts have been made to bring Lobo to the big screen over the years. Guy Ritchie...

Jason Momoa to Play Lobo in DC’s ‘Supergirl’ Movie
Image
Jason Momoa is staying in the DC Studios family.

The actor, who previously appeared as Aquaman in several DC comics films including two standalones, will co-star as Lobo the intergalactic bounty hunter in the upcoming “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.” Milly Alcock plays the title role, with direction being handled by Craig Gillespie. It’s currently scheduled to start shooting next month in London and Iceland and will be released on June 26, 2026.

Momoa had long lobbied to play the character, basically an outer space biker and who was created by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen in “Omega Men” #3 back in June 1983. Over the years, various attempts at giving the character his own film have been mounted. In 2009 Guy Ritchie took on the project, with Brad Peyton and Joel Silver attempting the project in 2012 (with Dwayne Johnson in talks to play the character). As recently as 2018, Michael Bay looked to make the movie,...

Jason Momoa to play DC’s Main Man, Lobo, in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow
Image
Last Updated on January 2, 2025

Jason Momoa is going from the ocean deep to the galactic highway when he steps into Lobo’s boots for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. Momoa has wanted to play Lobo for years, and his dream is finally coming true. Lobo, created by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen, debuted in Omega Men #3 circa 1983. Lobo is a Czarnian bounty hunter who rides a motorcycle through the cosmos in search of his marks. Inspired by characters like Punisher and Wolverine, Lobo became DC’s poster boy for violence as fans warmed to his reckless nature and “rude dude” attitude.

This attempt is not the first at bringing the cigar-chomping Czarnian to the silver screen. Previously, Guy Ritchie and Brad Peyton tried to bring Lobo front and center, with Dwayne Johnson eyeing the role in Peyton’s version. Michael Bay also attempted to adapt the character, but the concept stalled before taking to the stars.

Jason Momoa to Play Lobo in ‘Supergirl’ Movie
Jason Momoa
Aquaman star Jason Momoa is staying in the DC fold. The actor will appear in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow as Lobo, the alien bounty hunter who first appeared in the comics in 1983, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

Momoa was the face of the Aquaman franchise for the previous DC regime, appearing as Aquaman in a cameo in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) before starring in Justice League (2017) and then toplining 2018’s Aquaman. The feature was a massive hit, earning $1 billion and marking the high point for the Dceu films, which ended with last year’s Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. That final film was a letdown, earning just $439 million and failing with critics.

Momoa has long wanted to play the character and has talked about it for years, including during the press rounds for The Lost Kingdom. On Monday, the actor shared a quote from that press tour in...

The 10 Best Dwayne Johnson Movies, Ranked
Image
Even though professional wrestling involves a degree of acting, the professional wrestler-to-actor pipeline hasn't been particularly smooth for most. Hulk Hogan generally found himself unable to tone down the volume and the bluster of yelling to an entire arena, and while Roddy Piper had some success with John Carpenter's "They Live," he owes it to the director being a wrestling fan.

In the '90s, wrestling began to change into its "Attitude" era, often called the Monday Night Wars, developing more adult and reality-based themes, and depending at least as much on behind-the-scenes vignettes as in-ring action. This transition required a newer, more versatile sort of performer, and none excelled at it more than Dwayne Johnson, aka The Rock. It was in The Rock's charisma as both hero and villain that promoter Vince McMahon saw the potential for the World Wrestling Entertainment to gain a foothold in Hollywood, and WWE Studios,...

Why Dwayne Johnson Didn’t Want to Continue Brendan Fraser’s Journey to the Center of the Earth Franchise After His $335 Million Box Office Win

Brendan Fraser’s Journey to the Center of the Earth (2008) is no less than a classic family adventure. While the critics may have polarizing opinions on it, you can’t disagree that it was an entertaining watch at least. A few years later, Journey returned to the theatres, only this time, there was no Brendan Fraser in sight, only Dwayne Johnson. Along with Josh Hutcherson and Vanessa Hudgens, the group made their way to a mysterious island to carry out a rescue mission.

Neil Marshall missed out on the Predators directing job, but still wants to make a Predator movie someday
Image
Back in the mid-1990s, Robert Rodriguez wrote the screenplay for a Predator sequel that would be titled Predators… but the studio decided to put that one on the shelf for fifteen years before circling back to Rodriguez and giving him the chance to bring Predators to the screen. Rodriguez produced the movie and hired Alex Litvak and Michael Finch to rework his old script. The search for a director came down to two contenders: Control, Vacancy, and Armored director Nimród Antal and Dog Soldiers, The Descent, and Doomsday director Neil Marshall. The job ended up going to Antal, but more than a decade later, Marshall is still hoping he’ll get his chance to make a Predator movie someday.

Marshall was asked about being in the running for Predators while speaking with Inverse, and he said, “As far as I’m aware, I got down to the last two directors.

‘Atlas’ Writer Aron Eli Coleite Reveals Original Idea for a ‘Blade Runner’-Style Opening
Image
[This story contains spoilers for Atlas]

A movie begins, and Jennifer Lopez opens a suitcase to reveal a robotic head, which she proceeds to interrogate.

How’d that head get in the suitcase? Why is Jennifer Lopez talking to it? The audience doesn’t yet know, but hopefully they are intrigued.

That’s how screenwriter Aron Eli Coleite started one draft of Atlas, the sci-fi movie starring Lopez that hit Netflix May 24. The introduction had shades of the first scene of 1982’s Blade Runner, and was designed to keep an audience engaged in the age of streaming, in which there are near infinite opportunities to click away. “You just don’t want the audience to tune out at any point of like, ‘Oh, I can check out,’ says Coleite. “The danger of Netflix is you have a remote control.”

Ultimately, the team — including director Brad Peyton and producer Joby Harold — felt that while the opening was fun,...

Exclaimed Lopez’s producing partner Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas: “It’s time to report some true facts: A woman of color has done what few male stars have been able to do, namely having four No. 1 films in the past two years — Atlas, The Mother, This Is Me Now and Shotgun Wedding — two of them in the top 10 of all time on the two biggest streaming platforms, Netflix and Amazon.

“Yet those truths are being ignored,...

Image
The Jennifer Lopez-led sci-fi action film Atlas earned 28.2 million views on Netflix despite low ratings. AI and technology are hot topics; Atlas explores both the dangers and benefits of artificial intelligence. Jennifer Lopez's international appeal and Netflix success make her a valuable asset for future projects.

Another week, another Netflix film with less-than-stellar reviews seemed to find an audience. This time, it's the Jennifer Lopez-led science fiction action film Atlas, which has a rotten score of 19% on Rotten Tomatoes. The platform seemingly ignored those subpar notices by boasting that the movie was a big hit over the Memorial Day holiday, currently racking up 28.2 million views during its premiere weekend.

The performance of Atlas is highlighted more by the recent box office debuts of films like The Fall Guy or Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, which came in lower than expectations but secured much better reviews from critics. Why has...

Just Cause Movie Will Bring Video Game Chaos To Live-Action, Blue Beetle Director On Board
Image
A long-awaited video game adaptation now has new life. Universal Pictures has officially boarded the "Just Cause" movie, and the studio has some impressive talent behind the camera to make the project a reality. That starts with director Ángel Manuel Soto, best known for directing the DC superhero movie "Blue Beetle." The project has also added "The Fall Guy" director David Leitch and his producing partner (and wife) Kelly McCormick on board as producers with their company, 87North.

Universal has a longstanding relationship with Leitch, as the filmmaker made "Hobbs & Shaw" for the studio before stepping behind the camera for "The Fall Guy." He also very nearly directed the new "Jurassic World" film before Gareth Edwards took over. 87North has a first-look deal with the studio, so this partnership makes sense. Dmitri M. Johnson, Mike Goldberg, and Timothy I. Stevenson are also on board as producers. As for Soto,...

Jennifer Lopez Brings A Robotic Sci-Fi To The Top Of Netflix Charts
Image
Last year, Jennifer Lopez starred in so-so Netflix actioner "The Mother," in which she sniped her way through wave after wave of bad guys. Unfortunately the film marked yet another moment whereby the streaming age subsumed a former megastar into its nebulous cloud of generic "content." If "The Mother" isn't enough to convince you of such developments, just take a look at "Atlas," the latest Lopez-starring Netflix original film.

It should be said that the trailer for "Atlas" did look promising, but critics certainly aren't too impressed with this sci-fi actioner, which comes from director Brad Peyton ("San Andreas") and also stars Simu Liu, Sterling K. Brown, and Mark Strong. Lopez plays an AI-wary data analyst who quickly finds herself in a situation where she's forced to rely on a synthetic consciousness to survive a mission gone awry. In a reverse-"Blade Runner" scenario, Lopez's character, Atlas Shepherd, travels to...

‘Atlas’ Review
Image
Stars: Jennifer Lopez, Simu Liu, Sterling K. Brown, Mark Strong | Written by Leo Sardarian, Aron Eli Coleite | Directed by Brad Peyton

In a dystopian future, analyst Atlas Shepherd (Jennifer Lopez) loathes Artificial Intelligence with everything she has thanks to fugitive and “AI terrorist” Harlan (Simu Liu). When it is discovered that Harlan has fled to another planet in a nearby galaxy, she agrees to go on a mission to track him down. Soon after she touches down in the Andromeda galaxy, things get hairy — leading Atlas on a journey to work with the AI around her rather than against it.

If you’ve ever wanted to see Jenny from the block — or indeed, Jenny from the rock, given that she’s on a different planet in this instance — get repeatedly beaten up by a bunch of AI soldiers, you’ve come to the right place with Netflix’s Atlas. Simultaneously...

Jennifer Lopez's Next Movie Has A Great Shot At Breaking A Bad Rt Streaming Streak
Image
The upcoming biographical sports drama Unstoppable can break Jennifer Lopez's current Rotten Tomatoes trend. Lopez's recent streaming movies have received poor reviews. Unstoppable is based on Anthony Robles's true story.

Jennifer Lopez has starred in a handful of critically acclaimed movies, like Selena and Hustlers, but Lopez's Rotten Tomatoes scores in the past couple of years exhibit a disappointing pattern that can be broken via her next film. The actress' most recent project was Atlas, a Netflix science fiction action movie directed by Brad Peyton and written by Leo Sardarian and Aron Eli Coleite, which premiered in May 2024. Lopez starred as the lead character, Atlas Shepherd, a counterterrorism analyst who must go against her anti-ai beliefs to save humanity. While Atlas is trending on Netflix, its reviews have been subpar.

Unfortunately, Atlas's Rotten Tomatoes score debuted as one of Lopez's worst-rated movies ever, and the bad news is...

Who Voices Smith In Netflix's Atlas
Image
Jennifer Lopez stars in Netflix's Atlas, a sci-fi movie about AI, survival, and teamwork against a rogue robot threat. Gregory James Cohan's emotive voice work brings Smith, an AI companion, to life in Atlas, adding depth and personality. Cohen was initially a stand-in but ended up playing three roles in the film.

Jennifer Lopez teams up with an AI-powered mech suit in Atlas, and it took an unexpected voice actor to bring this character to life. The 2024 Netflix movie is set in a future in which artificial intelligence has begun a violent campaign against humanity, and Lopez's titular Atlas must team up with one of their fellows to save her species. It's a survival meets buddy-cop sci-fi adventure, and it wouldn't have been possible without the right voice for Smith, Atlas' lovable robot companion.

Jennifer Lopez Says AI Has Been ‘Really Scary’: Ads Are ‘Selling Skincare I Know Nothing About’ Using My Face Covered in ‘Wrinkles’
Image
In director Brad Peyton’s Netflix sci-fi action movie, “Atlas,” Jennifer Lopez stars as the titular character, a data analyst who must turn to AI to help save the Earth from an evil robot (Simu Liu).

“I think this movie does a good job of showing how AI could go incredibly wrong, and this is how it could go really right,” Lopez told me at the film’s Los Angeles premiere.

The multi-hyphenate has experienced the exploitative side of AI, with ads “selling skincare that I know nothing about” using manipulated photos of her face covered in “wrinkles.” “It’s really scary,” she said, adding, “Right away we had them stealing our faces. So, yes, [AI] is really scary.”

Lopez further explained, “I think you should be respectful of AI…We have to be open to all possibilities. These movies that are talking about AI — especially this one — do a really...
