The Bree and Oliver chaos isn’t over just yet.

Tom Ellis, who plays the flirtatious college professor who gets in a romantic situationship with Catherine Missal’s Bree in Tell Me Lies season two, recently told People that he will be returning for the forthcoming third season.

“Yes, I’m going back. I’m actually going there on Saturday to start shooting,” Ellis said at CBS Fest in Los Angeles.

Ellis, who is married to Tell Me Lies showrunner Meaghan Oppenheimer, also revealed that he’s read “the first four episodes” already and teased that viewers “will not be disappointed” by the new season.

“It is as dark, toxic and funny as ever,” the Lucifer actor added. “And just when you thought our characters couldn’t do anything more ridiculous to themselves, they ended up doing it.”

’Lucifer’s Tom Ellis Is Returning For ‘Tell Me Lies’ Season 3
Image
Tom Ellisknows how to play complicated characters. He was the devil in Luciferafter all, but his role as Oliver in the hit Hulu series Tell Me Lies had the actor questioning things about the character. In Season 2, Oliver was introduced as a hot, married professor who ended up having an affair with Bree (Catherine Missal). The finale revealed that Oliver's wife, Marianne (Gabriella Pession) knew about it and that it was a common trend for Oliver. And if you wanted more of that drama, you're in luck. Ellis shared with People that he's returning for Season 3.

At CBS Fest in Los Angeles, Ellis told the publication, "Yes, I'm going back. I'm actually going there on Saturday to start shooting." He went on to tease that fans of the show "will not be disappointed" and said that he has read "the first four episodes" already. He went on to promise that...

‘Tell Me Lies’: Meaghan Oppenheimer and Tom Ellis Dissect That ‘Heartbreaking’ Season 2 Finale
Image
[Editor’s note: The following interview contains spoilers for the “Tell Me Lies” Season 2 finale.]

In the wake of another delicious and devastating “Tell Me Lies” finale, creator Meaghan Oppenheimer had just one apology to make. “I’m sorry that relationships suck so much,” the showrunner and screenwriter told IndieWire. “I’m very sorry to the audience that it seems like everyone has been so traumatized by their own relationships. It feels like this universal and inescapable thing.”

You wouldn’t know it looking at Oppenheimer and actor Tom Ellis, who married in June 2019 and spoke at length about their experience collaborating on Hulu’s obsession-worthy fall drama. Adapted from Carola Lovering’s novel of the same name, “Tell Me Lies” Season 1 is a murder mystery investigated by way of an especially warped college romance. In Season 2, Oppenheimer exploded that concept to incorporate several new storylines — chief among them, a toxic love triangle that cast her husband as a predatory professor.

Image
One of the big mysteries of Tell Me Lies‘ second season has been who has repeatedly been calling Bree (Cat Missal) towards the end of season two.

For a recap, if you need a refresher, in the 2015 timeline, Bree has been seen either ignoring a call from a private number, or in a heated discussion with someone trying to get them to leave her alone.

Fan theories have pointed to Oliver (Tom Ellis), Marianne (Gabriella Pession), or a possible family member of Bree’s who we haven’t met yet.

Now, the show’s creator and showrunner, Meaghan Oppenheimer, is revealing 2 characters that are not involved in this mystery.

Keep reading to find out more…

When asked by Variety who is calling Bree, Meaghan responded, “I can’t say, because that would be a reveal in a later season. But it’s not Stephen and it’s not Oliver.”

‘Tell Me Lies’ Creator Answers Finale Burning Questions, Hints at Season 3 Time Jump and Responds to Leo and Stephen Tattoo Theories
Image
Spoiler Alert: This post contains spoilers from the Season 2 finale of “Tell Me Lies,” now streaming on Hulu.

Season 2 of “Tell Me Lies” came crashing to an end — in both the 2008 and the 2015 timelines. In an attempt to sum up everything that happened: Stephen (Jackson White) and Diana (Alicia Crowder) broke up — an idea she made him think was his doing, but she’d been planning all along to get him away. There was no sadness at all for Stephen, who immediately slept with Lucy (Grace Van Patten). Right after that hookup, Lucy went back to Leo (Thomas Doherty) and slept with him — without even changing her underwear. That tidbit came in hand for Stephen later when he brought up what she was wearing to prove to Leo they’d hooked up hours before and led to Leo punching him repeatedly until his face was unrecognizable.

Then there were Bree...

Those About to Die Gets Exciting Season 2 Update From Roland Emmerich
Image
Season 2 of Roland Emmerich's sword-and-sandals drama, Those About to Die, could be going back in time (even further than Season 1), as the director has based his plans for the series on Francis Ford Coppola's seminal The Godfather trilogy. Released on Peacock and Prime Video earlier this year, No Time to Die explores the dirty underbelly of Rome, as members of the four factions vie for control over the newly built Colosseum, all while the city faces ongoing food shortages and riots. Season 1 received decent reviews from audiences, although it has yet to be officially renewed for a second season.

While the official confirmation has yet to come, Roland Emmerich (who directed half of season 1 and acted as showrunner), is already planning ahead for the second season, and has teased that the historical timeline is going to get disjointed. "We hope to do a little bit what Godfather II did,...

‘Tell Me Lies’ Star Tom Ellis Says He Had the ‘Hardest Time’ Breaking Into His ‘Quietly Sociopathic’ Character
Image
Tom Ellis treaded fantasy for soapy dramatics for Season 2 of Hulu’s “Tell Me Lies,” in a “quietly sociopathic” role he recalled having the “hardest time” breaking into.

“Of all the characters I’ve ever played, I probably had the hardest time trying to understand his choices and his motivation,” Ellis told TheWrap of his character Oliver. “He’s someone who is quietly sociopathic and someone who doesn’t really think about consequence, someone who thinks solely of themselves, first and foremost.”

“Tell Me Lies” Season 2 introduced viewers to Oliver, a professor at Baird college married to fellow professor Marianne (Gabriella Pession), who developed a mentor-like relationship with Lucy in the show’s first season. After Marianne introduced Lucy and her friends to her husband, whom Ellis described as “broken, cold and someone who keeps his cards very close to his chest,” he starts an affair with Bree (Catherine Missal...

‘Tell Me Lies’ Season 2: EP Meaghan Oppenheimer, Grace Van Patten And Jackson White Reveal New “War Story”; Update On Van Patten’s Amanda Knox Role
Image
Tell Me Lies fans rejoice! Season 2 will premiere on Hulu September 4th.

Created and executive produced by Meaghan Oppenheimer and based on the novel by Carola Lovering, the show follows Baird college student Lucy Albright (Grace Van Patten) and her highly dysfunctional romance with master manipulator Stephen DeMarco (Jackson White). Tell Me Lies Season 2 now has a trailer, and the tension only gets thicker between Lucy Albright (Grace Van Patten) and Stephen DeMarco (Jackson White). The show premieres Sept. 4 with two episodes, followed by one episode a week.

Following their dramatic breakup at the beginning of last summer, the two return to Baird with Lucy determined to focus on school. Stephen is now dating Diana (Alicia Crowder). Duchess Review — Neil Marshall Has Officially Lost His Touch
Image
Oh, how the mighty have fallen. Only with Neil Marshall’s filmography, especially the uninspired actioner Duchess, the fall has been so drastic that one has to wonder whether he was that mighty to begin with. After a one-two punch of early aughts cult favorites in Dog Soldiers and The Descent, Marshall’s career has been on a serious downward spiral, and his latest effort — if you can even call it that, as that implies effort was put in by anyone involved — is a new low.

Duchess Review

Duchess follows a petty criminal who seeks revenge after she attempts to enter the dangerous criminal underworld of diamond smuggling. The script was written by Marshall and the film’s star Charlotte Kirk — who make up one of the most scandalous couples in Hollywood — and it’s clearly just another excuse for them to make another movie together. They’re like a...

Those About To Die Review: So Many Problems Plague This Strangely Entertaining Ancient Rome Series
Image
Too many characters make for a messy and disjointed story, lacking focus and coherence. The writing is inconsistent and the graphics can be comically bad at times. Despite its flaws, the show can still be entertaining and engaging for viewers.

Those About To Die (2024) is inspired by the 1958 non-fiction novel by Daniel P. Manni, which focuses on Ancient Rome and the era of gladiators and chariot racing. Roland Emmerich's latest project delves into the corrupt politics of these dangerous games and the cast of nefarious characters who stand to gain or lose a lot as the citizens of Rome struggle with poverty. Those About To Die is a grand spectacle bathed in blood, sweat and derivative writing. Anthony Hopkins certainly drew me in, and even if the show was extremely messy and couldn't keep my full attention, I still had fun watching.

What Happened To Those About To Die's Vespasian In Real Life
Image
In Those About to Die, Anthony Hopkins plays real-life Roman emperor Vespasian. Vespasian is notable in real life for uniting Rome after the Year of Four Emperors. After his death (which is depicted accurately), he was succeeded by his son.

Real-life Roman emperor Vespasian's life is depicted in Peacock's Those About to Die, to a certain degree of accuracy. The streaming show is a swords-and-sandals epic that brings history to life in the same vein as classics such as Spartacus, Gladiator, and HBO's Rome. In fact, the show is based on the Daniel P. Mannix book of the same name (which was later retitled The Way of the Gladiator) that originally inspired the screenplay for Ridley Scott's Oscar-winning Gladiator, which was adapted by David Franzoni, John Logan, and William Nicholson.

The show features a robust ensemble cast that includes The Monuments Men's Dimitri Leonidas, Masters of the Air's Jojo Macari,...

Those About to Die Stars on Getting Anthony Hopkins' Fist Bumps
Image
"It was a very sweaty day for me under the toga, and quite a nervous day," admitted Jojo Macari of shooting his first scenes with Oscar-winner Anthony Hopkins in Peacock's fascinating new epic series, Those About to Die. "Obviously, you know, this guy's a blooming legend. But also in my head, I'm like, 'Okay, I've got to go and do a scene with this guy, and he's an actor, and he wants to do a great scene too, so it's going to be okay.' At which point, Anthony walks in and comes immediately up to me and gives me a fist bump, [saying], 'How's it going, Jojo? How's it going... what's happening?'"

That's enough to set somebody at ease. Macari and Tom Hughes are among a massive all-star cast in the massive drama set in the corrupt world of spectacle-driven gladiatorial competitions. The duo play brothers Domitian and Titus,...

‘Those About to Die’ Review: A Sea of Wine and Blood
Image
Rome is starving. Early into Those About to Die, as the Roman Empire reels from civil war and rebellion in Judea, running its grain stores scarce, the people’s hunger for food swells into an appetite for revolt. Rome’s rulers turn to entertainment to pacify their citizens, eventually enlisting Tenax (Iwan Rheon), the rare self-made man who’s managed to claw his way toward the city’s elite, to orchestrate arena spectacles for the public. “I grew up in those stinking stands. I know what the mob wants to see,” Tenax tells his crew toward the end of the show’s first season. “Remember: Enough is good. More is better. Too much is perfect.”

Tenax’s directive encapsulates the ethos of Those About to Die, which treats viewers to excess and indulgence befitting ancient Rome. Created by Robert Rodat and based on Daniel P. Mannix’s book of the...

Those About to Die's Rotten Tomatoes Score Cannot be Saved by Anthony Hopkins and Plenty of Violence and Sex
Image
Peacocks new epic ancient Rome series Those About to Die looked set to challenge the likes of House of the Dragon and possibly even Ridley Scotts upcoming sequel Gladiator II as a new go-to place for those looking for the usual mix of violence, politics, and a little sex and nudity. However, as the first wave of critical reviews landed on Rotten Tomatoes, it seems that the Anthony Hopkins-starring drama, which is directed in part by Independence Day's Roland Emmerich, isnt quite living up to its potential.

Those About to Die is a typical sword-and-sandal series that follows in the footsteps of the likes of Spartacus, bringing to life the often brutal and unsavory world of emperors and gladiators. However, this time around, the focus is shifted slightly from the mighty gladiators and their powerful overlords to the criminal underworld and darker corners of that world. However, it seems...

Roland Emmerich Says Filming Those About to Die Was 'Murderous'
Image
It was murderous, acclaimed director Roland Emmerich shared about what it was like shooting Peacocks stunning new epic series, Those About to Die. More on Emmerichs murderous comments later. For now, lets just say and its not every day we can say this Those About to Die is unlike any series weve ever seen. (Although Gladiator and Game of Thrones come close.) Bold, epic, and surpassing expectations both visually and narratively, the action-packed 10-episode series is inspired by Daniel Mannixs non-fiction book of the same name. It hits the streamer July 18.

Set in Rome in 79 Ad, the undertaking marks Emmerichs television directorial debut. Peacock is lucky to have him. He is, after all, the man behind crowd-pleasers like The Day After Tomorrow and The Patriot. Emmerich, who has long been a fan of the Roman Empire, also serves as supervising director here, and the series is yet another feat for the filmmaker.

Those About To Die TV Review
Image
Plot: An epic drama set in the corrupt world of the spectacle-driven gladiatorial competition, exploring a side of ancient Rome never before told — the dirty business of entertaining the masses, giving the mob what they want most…blood and sport. The series introduces an ensemble of characters from all corners of the Roman Empire who collide at the explosive intersection of sports, politics, and dynasties.

Review: The recent release of the Gladiator II trailer proves that the spectacle and grandeur of the Roman Empire make for fascinating storytelling. Influenced by epics like Spartacus, Cleopatra, and Ben-Hur, the arenas and gladiatorial combat have rarely been as good as they have been on the big screen. Returning to the book that inspired David Franzoni’s initial script for Ridley Scott’s 2000 Best Picture-winning feature film, Those About To Die takes a deeper dive into the politics and machinations of Rome during the first century.

Those About to Die Review: Peacock’s Dull, Cruel Gladiator Drama Offers Empty Spectacle and Not Much Else
Image
The runaway success of HBO’s Game of Thrones inspired a flood of big-budget epics from History’s Vikings to Amazon’s Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, but few of those shows have been able to match its combination of awe-inspiring action and Shakespearean drama. The latest to try is the Roman gladiator drama Those About to Die, premiering this Thursday on Peacock, which is clearly going for an ancient Rome-meets-Westeros vibe. (I’ve seen the first three episodes.) It seems to have learned all the wrong lessons from Thrones, though, leaning heavily on violence and nudity...

Anthony Hopkins On Roman Emperors, Trump’s Hannibal Lecter Obsession, & Taking It All Too Seriously
Image
“Now I am ready to become a god,” says Anthony Hopkins as the Emperor Vespasian in the Roland Emmerich-directed Those About to Die.

Of course, as ruler of Rome in the year 79 Ce, the victor of the infamous Year of the Four Emperors was for all practical purposes a god on Earth. Which makes the portrayal of the former general who built what we now call the Colosseum by an 86-year-old Welshman widely considered our greatest living actor all the more fitting.

“It was a big, big production,” Hopkins says of the epic-scale July 18-launching series on Peacock from the Independence Day helmer. “It’s good.”

In fact, as the NBCUniversal streamer prepares for the Paris Olympics later this month, the 10-espiode first season of Those About to Die puts the power and prestige of competition into a grand perspective. A gladiatorial perspective that offers with a cast including Game of Thrones vet Iwan Rheon,...

"Enough is good. More is better. Too much is perfect." Peacock has unveiled the second official for an epic Roman Empire series Those About To Die, a riff on the classic Roman phrase "Hail, Emperor, those who are about to die salute you" or "Ave Imperator, morituri te salutant." It'll be streaming on Peacock starting in a few more weeks. The series chronicles the world of gladiators in Ancient Rome. It may not be connected to Ridley Scott's Gladiator movie, or its upcoming sequel Gladiator 2 due out later this year (huzzah!), but it's definitely something they want you to feel is connected. Some of the episodes are directed by Roland Emmerich and it was shot at the Cinecittà studio in Rome. Anthony Hopkins stars as the Roman Emperor Vespasian, with a massive cast: Dimitri Leonidas as Scorpus, Jojo Macari, Gabriella Pession, Iwan Rheon, Sara Martins-Court, Moe Hashim, David Wurawa,...
