The Masked Singer is back on our screens, turning the nation into at-home detectives as they try to figure out who this year’s celebrity contestants are.
The singing competition series, in which celebrities compete anonymously behind giant anthropomorphic costumes, returned on New Year’s Day, with the first group of contestants all performing.
Among the group was Phoenix, who was shown in their Vt standing within a grand castle and explaining in a posh accent that “I am rather hot, aren’t I?”
“Fire” by Kasabian then played as Phoenix said that they had risen from the ashes and been “born anew” and “reincarnated”.
They also said that they were good with “mysteries” and “following a trail”, while Phoenix was shown inspecting foot prints with a magnifying glass.
Phoenix’s first performance was a jazz version of “Get Lucky” by Daft Punk. While performing, they sang with an American accent.

The Sandman creator Neil Gaiman has revealed Michael Jackson wanted to play Morpheus while he was attempting to create the show in the Nineties.
Earlier this month, the streaming giant released a small screen adaptation of Gaiman’s comic book series The Sandman, starring Tom Sturridge, Jenna Coleman, and Gwendoline Christie.
During a recent appearance on Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast, Gaiman revealed that the King of Pop had wanted to play the iconic character portrayed by Sturridge in the Netflix version.
“By 1996, I was being taken to Warners, where the then-president of Warner Bros sat me down and told me that Michael Jackson had phoned him the day before and asked him if he could star as Morpheus in The Sandman,” Gaiman told Horowitz.
Gaiman continued: “So, there was a lot of interest in this and they knew that it was one of the Crown Jewels and what did I think?...

Shia Labeouf has said the depiction of his father as abusive in his film Honey Boy was “f***ing nonsense”.
The 2019 film was directed by Alma Har’el with a screenplay by Labeouf that was based on his experiences of early fame and relationship with his father, whom he played in the movie.
Noah Jupe and Lucas Hedges played younger versions of Labeouf, who is named Otis in the film.
Labeouf wrote the script in 2017, during a stint of court-ordered rehab. The movie depicted his father as manic and aggressive, as well as abusive towards his son.
During an episode of Jon Bernthal’s Real Ones podcast, the actor admitted to taking creative liberties with the film, which was previously thought to be autobiographical.

Warner Bros. Discovery U.K. has commissioned 149 hours of new and returning lifestyle shows in the U.K.
The programs include “The Big Body Clinic,” “The Edinburgh Auction House” and “Charlotte Church’s Dream Build,” and will air on Discovery’s stable of U.K. linear channels. They will also be made available on streaming service Discovery+.
The sheer volume of unscripted commissions for Warner Bros. Discovery’s linear channels in the U.K. sends a clear signal that the unscripted pipeline for the combined Discovery+ and HBO Max platform — when it does eventually launch — will largely stem from the Discovery side of operations.
Discovery+ launched in the U.K. in November 2020, but HBO Max has yet to roll out, due to the legacy output deal between HBO and Sky, which sews up the vast majority of HBO and some HBO Max content for Sky channels and its SVOD service Now TV.

Den Of Geek raises a glass to some lesser-known soap star pop singles, from Coronation Street to Neighbours and more...
“Do you remember the guy who played that guy in that thing? His song was good wasn't it?”
The above is an example of a conversation regularly heard in our house. The only variants are that sometimes it was 'that girl from that thing', and a lot of the time the song was far from good.
Well sod it – I think we as a nation need to have more discussions about Craig McLachlan and Stefan Dennis. It's the only way our society will grow. So here are 12 songs from Soapland that weren't done by Kylie, Jason, or Kylie and Jason.

You might recognize Reginald VelJohnson as Sergeant Al Powell, the police officer who helped Bruce Willis Die Hard; or, equally likely, from his turn as head of the family (and a cop) on Family Matters; or possibly you saw him as detective David Sutton on Turner & Hooch; or perhaps his guest appearance as Sergeant Powell on Chuck; or his brief stint as a cop in Ghostbusters. Point is, VelJohnson has a type. And as he told The Hollywood Reporter, he doesn't mind playing it. "I don't know what it is about me and this cop thing, but I get a lot of cop offers," the 63-year-old says with a chuckle. "Everyone always assumes that I'm someone on the force, but as long as they are paying me, I will play a cop until the day I die." Over the course of his interview with THR, VelJohnson also revealed some insight...

After 13 series, there have now been more than enough I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! winners to fill up their own all-star series.
They all had to endure creepy crawlies, tough Bushtucker Trials and mockery by Ant & Dec, but they all won the hearts of the nation for a couple of weeks.
Some of them may have fallen from grace since, while some have soared up the UK fame ranks. But who were the best champions from their respective series? Here's our just-for-fun, don't-take-it-too-seriously Top 13.
13. Carol Thatcher - Series 5 (2005)
Potentially the most surprising winner of the lot, no-one could have guessed that Margaret Thatcher's daughter would have been voted the nation's favourite.
Viewers were won over by how involved she was in the tasks, her no-nonsense attitude, and the fact that she was only up against Sid Owen and Cannon & Ball.

The songlist for this week's Strictly Come Dancing has been released. Saturday's show will see the remaining 11 couples battle it out to stay in the competition and move one step closer to the final. Last week saw EastEnders star Sid Owen and partner Ola Jordan bow out after finishing in the bottom two alongside James Bond actor Colin Salmon and Kristina Rihanoff. This series of Strictly has been more popular than ever, with last week's results show bringing in 9.4m viewers, even more than usual Sunday night ratings winner Downton Abbey. Bosses will be hoping to avoid a repeat of last weekend's incident where Louis Smith accidentally revealed the outcome of the results show a day early on Twitter. Ex-EastEnders star Sid Owen has revealed that he joined Strictly Come Dancing to prove a point to his ex-fiancée. The Ricky Butcher star, who split with TV presenter Polly Parsons in April, claims that friends also attempted to dissuade him from partaking in the ballroom reality show. "I've been toying with the idea for a few years now," Owen told Pa. "Everyone I've spoken to has said, 'Don't be silly, don't do it because you've got two left feet and you can't dance'. "My ex-partner told me that too, and whatever she tells me not to do, I want to do." The 40-year-old went on: "I'm really excited and looking forward to it because I've got nothing to lose. Hopefully I will become a dancer by the end of it. "I'm going to work hard. I think that's (more)...

Years before the current list of serious box office underachievers were exhaustively debated over for weeks on the blogosphere, notorious über flops like Ishtar and Baron Munchausen were routinely examined and dissected in film publications throughout the land. Another feature which usually factored somewhere towards the top of those lists was 1985’s period epic Revolution.
Rushed through pre-production despite director Hugh Hudson’s insistence that a voice-over was necessary to give focus to the events in the film, it resulted in a huge failure at the time, clearing up (rather unfairly) at that year’s Razzies, and causing heart-broken star Al Pacino to take a cinematic hiatus until 1989’s Sea of Love.
After tirelessly campaigning to have another crack at the film, Hudson was at the BFI last week (with a suitably intrigued audience in attendance) to present Revolution: The Director’s Cut. The film is now out on...

This recut, refurbished version of the story of the American struggle for independence looks and sounds a lot better than the original. But it still features Sid Owen as Al Pacino's son
Director: Hugh Hudson
Entertainment grade: C
History grade: B+
In 1776, the American colonies declared independence from Britain. There followed a fierce and bloody war, which lasted more than eight years.
Reception
When director Hugh Hudson's earlier film Chariots of Fire won four Oscars in 1981, screenwriter Colin Welland famously announced: "The British are coming!" These words are traditionally (and inaccurately) attributed to Patriot rider Paul Revere, who alerted colonial rebels to the British Army's first secret attack in 1775. Two hundred and 10 years later, the British film Revolution was released. For the second time in history, the British found themselves defeated comprehensively by the American revolution. A massive critical and commercial flop on its initial release, Revolution has been...

The Plague Of The Zombies/The Reptile
Even in these enlightened times, Hammer Films is still often seen as the British film industry's dirty little secret. While Hammer made more than just horror films, it was the horrors that kept the industry rolling through very lean times, proving extremely popular overseas in places like America, Japan and Italy, countries where more lauded British films would never get a foothold.
These two Hammer films from 1966 were made back to back, sharing locations and cast members in order to save money. They are from a time when Hammer was trying new things, having exhausted dozens of permutations of vampire, Frankenstein and mummy movies. The Reptile is basically the werewolf's curse-style of tale given a few reptilian twists. More successful is Hammer's take on zombies, here not flesh-eaters, but instead cheap voodoo-activated undead labour in a Cornish tin mine.
A mere two years later,...
