"Locke and Key" is one of the best comic book series of the 2000s. It's an incredible fantasy-horror work with stunning art by Gabriel Rodríguez and a compelling narrative that manages to be both whimsical and mature, with young characters that act like kids yet are not looked down upon or treated as lesser than the adults. The comics also mix a bit of Amblin in with a lot of Stephen King to tell a phenomenal story about growing up -- one that's as scary as it is heartfelt, which is fitting since the comic was written by King's son Joe Hill (who also wrote the short story "The Black Phone" is based on).
With a comic as good as "Locke & Key," it was inevitable that it would be brought to the screen. Sure enough, in 2020, Netflix debuted the first season of its three-season TV adaptation. Season 1 was largely...

Who would have thought that the “Now You See Me” franchise would spur some of the biggest names in indie film? Oscar-nominated filmmaker Jesse Eisenberg and Sundance darling Dave Franco both return for third film “Now You See Me: Now You Don’t” along with their fellow Four Horsemen magicians Woody Harrelson and Isla Fisher.
And there’s a new generation of indie stars joining the big Lionsgate franchise: Justice Smith, Dominic Sessa, and Ariana Greenblatt, who were also all in person to stage a visual “heist” in the heart of Times Square to promote the trailer. Lionsgate gave away $250,000 in digital payments to fans that texted or called a mysterious phone number that was on a billboard.
“Now You See Me: Now You Don’t” also stars Rosamund Pike and Morgan Freeman. The film is directed by Ruben Fleischer with a script by Seth Grahame-Smith, Michael Lesslie, Paul Wernick, and Rhett Reese.

Fans haven't given up hope on Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man trilogy, even after plans for that sequel were scrapped. A concept trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man 3 proves how that Venom crossover would have been an easy layup.
A new concept trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man 3 offers a glimpse of how that film would have played out. It's a somber sequel that picks up immediately after Gwen Stacy's death. Andrew Garfield's Peter Parker mourns her death as her voice helps him deal with the loss. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 hinted the Sinister Six was coming after revealing the Rhino in the end; that sparked hope the epic crossover would happen, that was until plans for Part 3 were shelved. "The Amazing Spider-Man 3: New Beginning" offered an alternative storyline, however, and it's partly inspired by Venom: The Last Dance.
The trailer imagined Peter duking it out with Venom in a symbiote storyline.

J.J. Abrams became the envy of every nerd when he got to reboot Star Trek and direct the sequel Star Wars films. While his Kelvin Timeline is not as popular or well-received as the original shows and films, it still has some moments of redemption. One of them is the inclusion of Leonard Nimoy as Spock Prime, which was among his final roles.
However, it was odd that Nimoy got a legacy cameo but the original series’ Captain Kirk did not. Abrams revealed that the team did plan on having actor William Shatner on board, but the actor wanted a more significant role for himself than a cameo. Abrams reportedly could not do that.

Harrison Ford and George Lucas have been partners-in-crime for decades. The duo first worked together on the coming-of-age drama American Graffiti before going on to work on a small little sci-fi film that some may have heard of called Star Wars. Ford played Han Solo in the iconic film franchise and has often expressed his annoyance at the franchise.
However, another franchise that Lucas created and Ford starred in did not anger the Red Hulk actor as much as Star Wars. Ford collaborated with Lucas and Steven Spielberg in the Indiana Jones films, starring as the titular character. He expressed gratitude to Lucas for giving him the phone call that changed his life.

The Star Trek franchise has been clear on its politics since the beginning but the pilot episode of Star Trek: Voyager seemed to have inadvertently fumbled on what it primarily wanted to say. The pilot episode ‘Caretaker’ transported the titular Voyager into another dimension and made the ship collaborate with Maquis species.
However, the storyline of the Caretaker helping hundreds of its citizens by taking care of their needs was seen as a metaphor supporting the Republican politician Newt Gingrich’s controversial Contract with America agenda. Showrunner Jeri Taylor reportedly did not intend for it to do so.

Once upon a time, Universal was prepping its own Avengers-style cinematic universe featuring their famous classic movie monsters. The studio started making some movies as they planned films that would make up the Dark Universe, and initially positioned Dracula Untold(2014) with star Luke Evans as the first film before officially making Tom Cruise's The Mummy the Iron Man of the Dark Universe. There was a magazine cover featuring an A-list cast who would be headlining films like Bride of Frankensteinand The Invisible Man. But then The Mummy opened in June 2017 and it bombed. Badly. And the brakes were hit on the Dark Universe. However, now it's a streaming hit on Hulu, sitting at number six on the streamer's Top 10 chart.

Actor Harrison Ford has been pretty picky about his roles over the years, carefully choosing roles that suit his cocky charm, but he hasn't always made perfect choices. While the actor has dozens of truly great movies under his belt, he also has a few stinkers, like historical submarine thriller "K-19: The Widowmaker" and utopia-building drama "The Mosquito Coast," though Ford has rather thoroughly defended both. There's one box office bomb that he hasn't been as effusive about, however, in large part because he was admittedly never on the film's wavelength.
The 2011 sci-fi action western "Cowboys & Aliens" had all of the ingredients for major blockbuster box office success. For 10 seasons, the rebooted "Hawaii Five-0" was a rock-solid Nielsen ratings performer for CBS. A combo nostalgia play for Baby Boomers who grew up watching Jack Lord and James MacArthur bust perps in and around Honolulu, and a stylish procedural targeted at fans of the network's popular "CSI" and "NCIS" franchises, "Hawaii Five-0" delivered consistently with its wildly appealing cast and storylines that explored its characters' pasts without ever getting bogged down in drawn-out story arcs. "Hawaii Five-0" knew what its fans wanted, and never deviated from its tried-and-true formula.
When a series hits the Nielsen sweet spot week in and week out, you figure the network would bend over backwards to keep it running until people stop watching. This is what Fox continues to do with "The Simpsons," now in its 36th season, and how NBC has rolled with its "Law & Order" franchise.

Easily one of the most iconic Autobots in the Transformers franchise is Bumblebee, who's been around since the days of Generation 1. Now, a 2010s variant of the character is getting a new, more cartoon-accurate action figure.
Third-party company Iron Warrior is known for its takes on Transformers characters, and a new Bumblebee toy is an upcoming part of its lineup. Based on the hero's depiction in Transformers: Prime, this non-transforming action figure is the perfect representation of his robot mode in the series. With the intended release date in a few months, fans will want to order theirs now so it can roll out on time.

Akiva Goldsman has had many highs and many lows in his Hollywood screenwriting career. The scribe won an Academy Award in 2001 for writing "A Beautiful Mind," but he had previously been nominated for Razzies (honoring the worst in filmmaking) for writing the screenplays to "A Time to Kill" and the atrocious "Batman & Robin." He's been deeply involved in major blockbusters and media franchises, writing "The Da Vinci Code," 1998's "Lost in Space," and "The Divergent Series: Insurgent." He also penned "I, Robot," "I Am Legend," and most recently, "The Dark Tower."
Since 2017, Goldsman has fallen in with the head honchos at "Star Trek," serving as one of the franchise's executive producers and writing multiple episodes of "Star Trek: Discovery," "Star Trek: Picard," and "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds." He has also directed five episodes, embracing his new place atop the "Trek" heap. Goldsman is also working on other projects...

Although Fringe's viewership ratings dwindled with almost every season, it remains a popular, critically acclaimed science fiction show that will always be difficult to replace. Still, some might be surprised that one CW series comes pretty close. The Fox sci-fi TV show created by J.J. Abrams, Alex Kurtzman, and Roberto Orci follows a unique team of gifted professionals (including scientists and FBI agents) who come together to solve bizarre and unusual cases. Throughout Fringe's five seasons, the mysteries become more complex as the audience learns more about the characters' pasts (and futures).
Fringe has a 90 percent score on the Tomatometer on Rotten Tomatoes and an 80 percent average on the Popcornmeter (formerly known as the Audience Score).
Fringe ended in 2013 after five seasons and 100 episodes. However, even though it has been over a decade since its series finale, Fringe has been the furthest thing from being forgotten, as it's...

When Sony Pictures determined they would make the best of the IP rights of the Spider-Man universe at the turn of the century, there was a plan to include historic characters like Venom. Much like with the more favored and dashing stepbrother over at Marvel Studios, the movies would be loosely connected and build on the infrastructure Stan Lee, Steve Ditko, Jack Kirby, John Romita Sr., Gil Kane, and other luminaries established in the comics.
Yet, when Venom was "co-created" by Todd MacFarlane in 1988, debuting in The Amazing Spider-Man No. 252, the thought about the symbiote was being fueled by revenge. Spider-Man was his first human host. They got separated. We'd all get perturbed if our landlord made us homeless. So, yes, Venom wanted revenge.

It's unclear what the future holds for Sony's Spider-Man Universe after the upcoming December 2024 release of Kraven the Hunter. Originally planned as a series of spinoff movies from Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in 2014, Sony's Spider-Man Universe was born following the sequel's disappointing performance, the establishment of a deal with Marvel Studios to bring Spider-Man into the MCU, and the redevelopment of a stand-alone Venom project. Sony's Marvel franchise hasn't managed to match the success of its behemoth cousins, however, throwing its future into jeopardy.
So far, Sony has released five live-action movies in its shared Marvel universe, each focused on Spider-Man villains and related characters from Marvel Comics. This includes the likes of Venom, Morbius, Madame Web and Ezekiel Sims, while Aaron Taylor-Johnson's Sergei Kravinoff will make his Ssu debut in Kraven the Hunter, which is scheduled for release on December 13, 2024. Though the past few years have seen an increase in amazing fantasy TV shows, there are plenty of older series that are still exciting and intriguing by today's standards. It's true that the best fantasy TV shows of the 2020s feature bigger budgets and more complex visual effects than projects released fifteen, twenty, or even thirty years ago. However, creativity was sparked by having to be inventive when it comes to bringing the story's magic to life. While the execution may have changed, the heart and purpose of fantasy storytelling have largely remained the same over the years.
Many of these fantasy TV shows are almost perfect and have aged reasonably well, even if there are some dated elements. However, a significant number are well known today and are being discovered by new generations of fantasy fans, keeping them relevant and inspiring contemporary works of speculative fiction in film and television.

Development continues on writer Roberto Orci's 'alien' action TV series "Galaga Chronicles", adapting the 1981 Namco/Midway arcade video game:
"...the player is in control of a spacecraft situated at the bottom of the screen, with enemy aliens arriving in formation at the beginning of a stage, either trying to destroy, collide with, or capture the spaceship, with the player progressing every time alien forces are vanquished..."
In 2011, the game celebrated its 30th anniversary with the release of "Galaga 30th Collection" for iOS.
Emmy Award-winning animation studio ShadowMachine and digital studio The Nuttery Entertainment have joined development on the series, now planned for a 12-episode season.
"'Galaga' is one of the games I played growing up", said Orci. "I have fond memories of the quarters and hours upon hours I spent playing the game. I look forward to working with The Nuttery and to capture that magic in an exciting new format.

The mid-00's were populated with a flurry of wildly inventive and character-driven dramas. A fixture in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier, Sebastian Stan was in the running to play an iconic Star Trek captain in J.J. Abrams 2009 film Star Trek. Per SlashFilm, Stan recently went on the Happy Sad Confused podcast and said he almost snagged the role of Captain James T. Kirk in the film.
There were a couple of things I didnt get that I really, desperately wanted, Stan said of auditioning for movies more than a decade ago. Captain Kirk for J.J. Abrams was one of the first things that I got very close to. I was really close, and I had a screen test with him at Paramount Studios and my manager had me do a separate photo shoot where I would try and replicate all of these William Shatner pictures just to send to [J.J.] to see how much I look like him and stuff.

Trekkies and non-Trekkies alike know that Captain James T. Kirk (William Shatner) referred to the U.S.S. Enterprise's chief medical officer, Dr. Leonard McCoy (DeForest Kelley) as "Bones." The two characters were good friends, so it made sense that they should have nicknames for each other. Indeed, Dr. McCoy more frequently referred to Kirk as "Jim" than "Captain." Among the senior staff, non-mission-based conversations were kept casual.
Why was Dr. McCoy called "Bones?" It comes from "Old Sawbones," a nickname given to all doctors in the mid-19th century. During various wars of the era, you see, doctors were frequently called to the front to tend to wounded soldiers. In many cases, the soldiers' wounds were not being treated, and became infected with gangrene. Doctors, not having modern surgical equipment or sterilization methods, had to amputate limbs to prevent the infections from spreading. Some doctors were able to saw through a leg — no anesthesia!

Starring in one major sci-fi blockbuster helped Zoe Saldaa secure her spot in J.J. Abrams' rebooted Star Trek franchise.
"I knew he was casting for Star Trek," Saldaa said at the BFI London Film Festival per The Hollywood Reporter, recalling when Abrams stopped by James Cameron's Avatar production and how that led to him casting her as the Kelvin Timeline's Uhura. "He and Jim were talking, and they come to set, and Jim lets him hold his little camera that he built. And I remember talking to JJ, and he's like, 'I'm going to call you, I really want to have a conversation with you. And then he walks away. And Jim comes over and goes, 'I just booked your next job,'" she continued.

Despite being one of the oldest characters in Star Trek history, Captain Christopher Pike wasn't really a compelling character until Anson Mount took the role in Season 2 of Star Trek: Discovery. Even then, it has taken Star Trek: Strange New Worlds for Pike to really come into his own as a likable, inspirational lead character. Part of this is because he's not exactly like previous versions of Pike.
Captain Pike first appeared in the original Star Trek pilot episode, "The Cage." Portrayed by Jeffrey Hunter, this Pike was irritable and brooding. He was not only isolated from his crew but openly adversarial with various members. While "The Cage" is an interesting episode overall, it is reasonable to say that this Captain Pike is not really all that fun to watch.
Of course, various elements of "The Cage" got repurposed into the 2-part Original Series episode "The Menagerie." This offered a...
