John Leguizamo hopes to “flip the script on how America sees Latinos and how we see ourselves,” with his new PBS docuseries “Voces American Historia: The Untold History of Latinos,” which premieres on Friday.
The “Encanto” actor, who also hosts the three-episode series, met with several Latin scholars and professors to discuss the contributions of civilizations dating back to the Incas, the Aztecs and the Indigenous people of the Caribbean — the first New World inhabitants Christopher Columbus encountered — who are now known as the Taíno.
“I’m like the Rain Man of Latin facts, and then together all these professors and experts on Latin history, I was so thrilled to be in the room with each one of them,” Leguizamo told TheWrap in a recent interview.
“We’re the only ethnic group that fought in every single war America ever had: 500,000 of us fought in World War II. We have over 60 Medal of Honor recipients,...

Considering how much of a grand backdrop casinos can provide in a movie, it’s fair to say that they haven’t featured in movies as often as some people might think. Even when we collated our top five films today, there’s not a huge range to choose from. Sure, movies might feature an odd scene or two in a casino, but the number of films that actually revolve around the inner workings of a casino or have multiple scenes set in and around them is minimal.
There are still some great films to choose from, though, and if the glitz and glamour of a casino is right up your street, then we’ve tried to handpick the films that we think will most appeal to you. We appreciate that casino gaming has changed since many of these classics first hit the big screen. Gone are the days of...

With or without a renewal, “Couple to Throuple” isn’t ending. Not really.
Peacock’s reality dating show for the poly-curious concluded its inaugural “experiment” this week — with its unconventional cast wrapping up their first attempts at non-monogamy in an emotional Season 1 finale that debuted Thursday, February 29.
Following 10 weeks of chaotic “third” swapping at an idyllic resort in Panama City, the starring couples and the sexy singles they dated made only the vaguest plans for their post-show futures. Instead, the subjects spent most of the episode better defining their relationship goals and tearily saying goodbye to their myriad exes. Per the obligatory where-are-they-now epilogue, just one triad was still romantically involved come showtime.
That might feel like the final resting place for a freshman series in a sea of shows stuck in development limbo. (NBC has yet to comment on the future production plans for “Couple to Throuple.”) But when...

Though many might claim the world of reality dating has tried it all — a spectrum from love at first sight to love at no sight at all — producers at Peacock’s Couple to Throuple still have something new to bring to the table.
“We noticed we were getting more and more applications where people weren’t necessarily looking for one singular person, or had different ideas around what a relationship could be,” executive producer Tom O’Brien tells The Hollywood Reporter. As the managing director at Naked, a Fremantle label, O’Brien and his team cast for a range of reality dating series.
In pursuit of a show that could give these outside-the-box submissions a home, he and the rest of Naked developed Peacock’s exploration of ethical non-monogamy, Couple to Throuple.

Peacock has set the premiere date for the new polyamorous dating series “Couple to Throuple.”
The 10-episode first season will roll out in weekly batches of three beginning Feb. 8. The season finale is set to stream separately.
Hosted by “Access Hollywood” co-anchor Scott Evans and guided by sex and relationship expert Shamyra Howard, the Peacock original series follows four couples as they experiment with introducing a third partner into their relationship.
“Set at a remote tropical resort, the couples will meet, mingle, and date a group of singles, many of whom are experienced in polyamory,” the official logline reads. “With three times the fun, the feelings, and drama, these relationships are put through the ultimate test to see if they are the perfect match. At the end of their time in paradise, the couples will decide if their hearts have room for more than just “the one” and commit as a throuple,...

In just over two decades, Bradley Cooper has become one of the most acclaimed actors, producers and filmmakers of his peer group. Cooper – who famously studied at the Actors Studio in New York and once even asked two-time Oscar winner Sean Penn a question from the audience on “Inside the Actors Studio” – made his feature acting debut in 2001’s “Wet Hot American Summer,” and later broke out in comedies like “Wedding Crashers” and television hits like “Alias.”
But starting with 2012’s “Silver Linings Playbook,” Cooper reached another level. That film from David O. Russell landed Cooper his first Oscar nomination and put him on the map of serious filmmakers. In the nine years since the success of “Silver Linings,” Cooper has received seven additional Oscar nominations, including as co-writer and producer of “A Star Is Born” and producer of “American Sniper” and “Joker,” and worked with top filmmakers such as Russell,...

Exclusive: Another two senior execs at The Apprentice UK producer Naked have exited – commercial boss Tamara Howe and Head of Formats Cam de la Huerta.
The Fremantle label also saw its factual entertainment chief James Lessell leave earlier this year to set up an indie, while MD Fatima Salaria left at the start of 2023.
In an all-staff email, Naked MD Tom O’Brien said Howe “leaves Naked in a better place” after a three-year stint as Director of Commercial and Operations, while de la Huerta was thanked for “passion and hard work.”
Howe is an experienced and well-liked exec, who was previously MD of Vice TV Emea. Prior to that, she spent 13 years in various senior roles for the BBC, including Controller of Business for the comedy and entertainment team.
She joined Naked on a three-month contract in 2020 following its merger with Fremantle stablemate Boundless “but became indispensable for us all...

Mr. Robot creator Sam Esmail has assembled an impressive cast for his thriller Leave the World Behind that includes Julia Roberts (Homecoming), Ethan Hawke (The Black Phone), and Mahershala Ali (True Detective). Netflix will be giving the film a limited theatrical release on November 22nd, with the streaming release to follow on December 8th – but a premiere screening was recently held, and the embargo on reactions has been lifted. Judging by the first reactions that have made their way online, it looks like Leave the World Behind might make for a divisive viewing experience.
First, we have a few positive reactions that describe the film as “wildly riveting and entertaining” and “absolutely amazing”, saying it has a “smart script”:
Welp, I’m going to be obsessed with #LeaveTheWorldBehind. (Or I guess I already am?) What a uniquely and expertly crafted and photographed disaster/apocalyptic story. (I absolutely must read the book now.

There’s new blood at the top of Fremantle UK’s Too Hot to Handle co-producer Thames and The Apprentice maker Naked.
At Thames, Charlie Irwin has been upped to Managing Director from his current post as Director of Programmes, while Tom O’Brien’s acting Managing Director role at Naked has been made permanent.
They’ll both report into Amelia Brown, who was named CEO of Fremantle UK following the resignation of Simon Andreae, whose departure we told you first about in April.
O’Brien has been with Naked since 2016 and succeeds Fatima Salaria, whose departure was announced back in January. She had replaced Andreae, who we revealed had faced internal misconduct complaints before his exit. Irwin replaces Brown, who was initially set to exit Fremantle but took on the CEO post after Andreae’s exit.
In further news, Leilah Mason has been appointed Head of Production and Helen Moore...

Many people think Tom Cruise dancing around in his underwear to Bob Seger in Risky Business is his most iconic scene. To others, it’s him saying he feels the need for speed in Top Gun or infiltrating the vault in Mission: Impossible. Or “I want the truth!” Or “show me the money!” But, to me, one of the scenes that best sums up Tom Cruise as one of the coolest movie stars ever is his entrance in Barry Levinson’s Rain Man. We see the smog-filled backdrop of Los Angeles as a Lamborghini flies across the screen. We see it’s being transported to a car lot where Tom Cruise’s Charlie Babbit, one of the most iconic eighties yuppies, inspects the car while The Belle Stars cover of “Iko Iko” fills the soundtrack. It’s a memorable moment that was so potent composer Hans Zimmer, when he reteamed...

There are all kinds of football-based films out there to enjoy — from dramas to comedies, and even an award-winning documentary — and we’ve collected 12 of the best here in our photo gallery, ranked from worst to best.
In paring down the list, we had to answer the question: “Just what is a football movie?” We didn’t include “The Blind Side,” for example, because though its central character plays football, the film is primarily about many other things. And while Act 3 of Robert Altman‘s “M*A*S*H” is made up of what is arguably the funniest football game ever put to film, its main concerns are elsewhere.

While he's well-known as an actor, Paul Dano's talent as a writer can't be understated. I still maintain that "Wildlife" deserved a Best Original Screenplay nomination back in 2019, and I really hope we get to see him make another movie soon. In the meantime, Dano has dipped his toes into the world of comic book media with a major role in Matt Reeves' "The Batman," where he played the classic rogue Riddler. His re-interpretation as a rage-fueled 4Chan incel was definitely a departure from other versions of the character, but at the time, Dano was praised for his scenery-chewing performance.
By all accounts, it makes sense for an actor to create the backstory of a character they play. After all, playing a role as a fully-realized character with a life not seen on the screen can really help them sell a performance. However, in the specific case of Dano...

It’s been a memorable few years for Nicolas Cage, or at least it looks that way to his sizable fan base.
A noted period of extremely prolific yet mostly uncelebrated work in the low-budget world of filmmaking was punctured by a ferocious performance in Panos Cosmatos’ wild action horror Mandy in 2018, while his uncharacteristically quiet — but equally intense — turn in last year’s Pig would bring him the sort of critical acclaim not seen since he won an Oscar for 1995’s Leaving Las Vegas.
Earlier this year came the ultimate tribute, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, in which he played a fictionalized version of himself. Now, the much-loved cult icon comes to Toronto with another landmark achievement. Incredibly (and Cage thinks so, too), Butcher’s Crossing from director Gabe Polsky marks the star’s first ever Western. Based on the book by John Williams,...

On September 4, 2022 “The Whale” premiered at the 79th Venice International Film Festival to great acclaim from critics and a six-minute standing ovation. The film, which has a release date of December 9 in the United States, was directed by Oscar nominee Darren Aronofsky (“Black Swan”) and stars Brendan Fraser, Hong Chau, Sadie Sink, and Samantha Morton. Fraser plays Charlie, an obese man struggling to reconnect with his teenage daughter after abandoning her for his gay lover (who later died). The film has a current freshness score of 71 on Rotten Tomatoes. But what exactly are the critics saying?

Blackjack is a game of chance. The most popular casino banking game in the world, it is derived from a global family of financial games known as Twenty-One and is played with 52 decks of cards. Pontoon and Vingt-et-Un are also part of the Pontoon family of card games. Players of blackjack do not face off against one another. Each player plays against the dealer in a card game in which they compare their cards.
The History
Vingt-Un, an English translation of twenty-one of uncertain origin, was the game’s direct predecessor. The first recorded use of the term can be traced back to the works of Miguel de Cervantes. Veintiuna has been performed in Castile ever since the 17th century or earlier,...

To say that 2021 has been a weird year is quite an understatement. Things started off really bleak then seemed to be getting better only to culminate in the uncertainty we now feel about everything. But we still got awards ceremonies and plenty of great moments from them. Due to pandemic precautions, all the ceremonies had to find ways to adapt so that they could still be events full of stars but also emphasizing the safety of those in attendance. Some of those presentations, like this year’s Grammy Awards, actually made this list which was selected by 15 of the site’s editors and contributors.

Near the top of the list of the most famous actors on Earth over the last four decades, sits Will Smith. Since his breakout in the 1990s, the multitalented star has conquered the music industry, television comedy with NBC’s “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” and blockbuster movies thanks to “Independence Day” and the “Bad Boys” and “Men in Black” franchises. In 2021, as Smith turned 53 years old, he also scored critical acclaim that has frequently eluded his grasp. His performance in “King Richard” as Richard Williams, father to Venus and Serena Williams, gave Smith the best reviews of his career and put him in the awards conversation for Best Actor at the Oscars.
SEEReinaldo Marcus Green interview: ‘King Richard’ director
Smith has never won at the Academy Awards, but his successes wherever he goes have resulted in an impressive number of awards, including winning four Grammy Awards (from eight nominations) for his recording work.

In just 20 years, Bradley Cooper has become one of the most acclaimed actors, producers, and filmmakers of his peer group.
In the nine years since the success of “Silver Linings,” Cooper has received seven additional Oscar nominations, including as co-writer and producer of “A Star Is Born” and producer of “American Sniper” and “Joker,” and worked with top filmmakers such as Russell, Clint Eastwood,...

Few would argue against the idea that Cate Blanchett is one of the great actresses of her generation. The sheer versatility she has displayed in her performances on film has especially made her one of the world’s most sought-after screen stars over the past three decades. In 2021, in the span of just a few weeks, she displayed her signature multi-talent: For Adam McKay’s “Don’t Look Up,” Blanchett turned herself into a cable news host in the vein of Megyn Kelly or Mika Brzezinski to score major laughs in the biting comedy; for Guillermo del Toro’s “Nightmare Alley,” Blanchett transformed into a 1940s femme fatale who gets one over on an overconfident con man (Bradley Cooper).

Few actresses of her era take as many chances as Nicole Kidman. The Oscar- and Emmy Award-winning actress has been one of the industry’s most sought-after performers since the early 1990s, and appeared in everything from splashy musicals like “Moulin Rouge!” (which netted Kidman her first of four Academy Award nominations) to historical fiction like “The Hours” (which won Kidman the Best Actress Oscar for playing Virginia Woolfe) to psychological thrillers like “Eyes Wide Shut” (where she starred opposite her now-ex-husband Tom Cruise) to blockbuster superhero movies like “Aquaman” (Kidman will also return for the sequel in 2022).
And that’s just on the big screen. In recent years, Kidman has acquitted herself exceedingly well in a spate of prestige television series, winning an Emmy for her nuanced work in “Big Little Lies” and scoring a Screen Actors Guild Award nomination for “The Undoing.”

Commission
ITV has commissioned West Road Pictures to produce “Ridley,” a new detective drama starring “Line of Duty” and “Blood” star Adrian Dunbar. The series is created and written by “Vera” lead writer Paul Matthew Thompson and West Road Pictures managing director Jonathan Fisher. They will executive produce the series.
“I couldn’t be happier to be getting started on ‘Ridley,’ as we continue to build the West Road production slate with our second commission for ITV,” said Fisher of the announcement. “ITV has a fine tradition of nurturing much-loved detective series, and it’s a real privilege to be bringing ‘Ridley’ to the channel.”
“Ridley” follows a detective inspector pushed into retirement from the force after 25 years investigating homicides. Convinced he is still in his prime, Ridley welcomes an invitation from his replacement and former protégé Carol Farman to aid her on a particularly complex case, eventually leading to more consulting jobs.

Exclusive: The BBC’s youth service BBC Three has renewed its remake of Lifetime series The Rap Game for a third season.
The series, which sees talented MCs compete for a record deal, is made by Fremantle UK producer Naked, which is currently crewing up for the Season 3 shoot. Casting is underway and the show will premiere later in the year.
Hosted by DJ Target, Krept, and Konan, Season 2 premiered last October. The six-part series was executive produced by Naked creative director Tom O’Brien and Cam de la Huerta.
Fremantle took full control of Naked last year in an acquisition that saw founder Simon Andreae, the former Fox head of alternative entertainment, move upstairs to become the production group’s UK chief executive.
Since then, Naked has hired Channel 4’s Fatima Salaria as MD and inhaled the productions of sister company Boundless, including the UK version of The Apprentice and Grand Designs.

Salaria takes over for former Naked CEO Simon Andreae, who was recently appointed CEO of Fremantle U.K. Her role will be both creative and commercial, and she will work closely with creative director Tom O’Brien and COO Susie Dark.

Before the coronavirus pandemic took hold of our society and shut down movie theaters around the globe, “Onward” was one of the last feature films to be released. Fremantle has acquired 100% of Naked Television, the British production company founded by former Fox head of alternative entertainment Simon Andreae.
Fremantle took a 25% stake in the company in 2015 and has now completed a full takeover, bringing Andreae into the wider group as UK CEO. He will oversee all the company’s British production labels, reporting to group CEO Jennifer Mullin. Financial details were not disclosed.

Fremantle took a 25% stake in the company in 2015 and has now completed a full takeover, bringing Andreae into the wider group as UK CEO. He will oversee all the company’s British production labels, reporting to group CEO Jennifer Mullin. Financial details were not disclosed.
The deal means that existing Fremantle UK chief executive Liam Humphreys is leaving the business after nearly three years. The former Channel 4 factual entertainment boss said it was time to “return to a closer relationship with content.”
