Summer Premiere Dates Set for Sinbad and Primeval: New World
It looks like our summer is shaping up very nicely, thanks to some excellent scheduling by The Powers That Be. At least our weekends will be taken care of. True Blood will almost certainly return in its usual Sunday at 9/8c slot, so there’s Sunday sorted. We told you earlier today that Zero Hour will be airing Saturdays at 8/7c, which fits in perfectly with this latest scheduling announcement: Primeval: New World will be airing Saturdays at 9/8c, followed by Sinbad at 10/9c on Syfy.

You may recall that we told you about the Syfy pickup of Primeval: New World back in October. You’ll recognize it as a spinoff from the original Primeval which aired here originally on BBC America. You’ll also recognize the star, Niall Matter, as Zane from the late great Eureka. Primeval: New World is another series acquired by Syfy from our pals up in Canada,...

Syfy to Air 12-Part UK Series Sinbad Starring a Familiar Lostie Name
We’re always happy to see a Lostie cast in something good; now it’s Naveen Andrews (Sayid) in a role from a UK miniseries that, according to UK friends, is quite good.

Syfy to air BBC's 'Sinbad' starring Naveen Andrews
Sinbad is coming to Syfy.

Sadly, it's not the Sinbad of "Jingle All the Way"/"First Kid"/"A Different World" fame (that would be too awesome). It's Sinbad, the heroic Middle Eastern sailor, in the latest of many versions of his tale.

This one is a 12-part series from BBC Worldwide/Sky 1 and stars newcomer Elliot Knight as the seafaring adventurer and "Lost's" Naveen Andrews as his arch-nemesis, Lord Akbari.

Sophie Okonedo ("Hotel Rwanda"), Timothy Spall ("The King's Speech") and Dougray Scott ("Ever After") are set for special appearances, while the regular cast includes Elliot Cowan as Norwegian sailor Gunnar, Marama Corlett as jewel-thief Rina, Estella Daniels as aristocrat Nala, Junix Inocian as the Cook and Dimitri Leonidas as Doctor Anwar. Is it just us, or does Sinbad's crew sound a little like Captain Mal's Serenity gang on "Firefly"?

"Sinbad" sets sail on Syfy in April 2013.

First look at Sky1's Sinbad
First look at 20-year-old newcomer Elliot Knight who takes the title role in Sky1 epic fantasy drama Sinbad which is currently filming in Malta.

Huw Kennair-Jones, Sky’s Drama Commissioning Editor, commented: “As our biggest original drama commission to date Sinbad is a hugely exciting project for Sky1 HD, and the casting of the lead role was always going to be crucial. But from the first moment we saw Elliot we knew that we’d found someone really special who sums up everything that our Sinbad should be – contemporary, spirited, full of life, wit and charm - he’s a truly exciting new talent for the channel."

Elliot (represented by Payne Management) was a drama student at Manchester School of Theatre before landing the role.

He will star alongside Naveen Andrews as bad guy Lord Akbari, with guest star appearances from Sophie Okonedo and Timothy Spall.

Lithe and agile jewel-thief...

Elliot Knight & Naveen Andrews Cast In Sky 1′s Sinbad
Sky 1 HD have commissioned a new fantasy drama series based on the iconic adventurer Sinbad and will broadcast 13 hour-long episodes next year.

Straight out of drama school 20 year old newcomer Elliot Knight has nabbed the title role with recognisable faces cast around him including; Lost’s Naveen Andrews as baddie Lord Akbari, Oscar nominated Hotel Rwanda actress Sophie Okonedo as the love interest, Queen of the Water-Thieves and Timothy Spall as Anicetus, The Old Man of Sea.

I believe the image above of Knight is our first look at him as the fabled sailor who weekly will be fighting monsters, goblins and other devilish creatures and is it just me or does he the eyes of a villain and Naveen Andrews, long-touted as a good potential to play Sinbad in a big-screen movie, would have been a more inspired choice to play the titled hero in a new series?
