Alice Munro was born on 10 July 1931 in Wingham, Ontario, Canada. She is a writer, known for Julieta (2016), Runaway and Away from Her (2006). She has been married to Gerald Fremlin since 1976. She was previously married to James Munro (I).

When I began writing there was a very small community of Canadian writers and little attention was paid by the world. Now Canadian writers are are read, admired and respected around the globe. I'm so thrilled to be this year's recipient [and] hope this brings further recognition to the short story form.
