The BBC and Netflix are getting ready to launch their series about the Lockerbie bombing from Line of Duty producer World Productions.
The BBC has dropped trailer for the show launching May 18 and later globally on Netflix, which stars Connor Swindells and Patrick J. Adams and follows what happened after the worst terror attack to take place on British soil 37 years ago.
The series tells the story of the Scots-u.S. investigation into the attack and the devastating effect it had on the small town and the families who lost loved ones. From the initial exhaustive search for evidence on the ground in Scotland, via the U.S. and Malta to the trial at Camp Zeist in 2000, the series leads up to the forthcoming new trial in the U.S.
The Bombing Of Pan Am 103 follows Sky and Peacock’s Lockerbie: A Search for Truth, which was criticized by some of the victims.

The Ee BAFTA Film Awards happened this evening at the Royal Festival Hall in London, hosted once more by David Tennant.
Poking fun at Trump during his monologue, Tennant also offered the usual celebrity gags and had several stars singing part of The Proclaimers' "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)".
Cautioning audience members that there would not be an intermission as with nominated epic The Brutalist, Tennant also admonished winners to "keep your speeches the opposite of your films: nice and short."
A somewhat surprising addition to the night (though perhaps not given their presence on the soundtracks for both Better Man and Anora) was a performance of "Greatest Day" by Take That.
As for the winners, it was a good night for Conclave, which won Best Film, another Adapted Screenplay trophy for writer Peter Straughan, Best British Film and Editing and A Real Pain, which went home with Original Screenplay for...

Children of Men, Alfonso Cuarón's sci-fi thriller masterpiece, will stream this January on Peacock Premium. Subscribers will be able to stream the film starting January 1, and we can't think of a better (and more pefectly bleak) film to start the new year with. After all, it's often hailed as one of the best dystopian movies of all time. Children of Men is based on the book "The Children of Men" by P.D. James. The Academy Award-nominated feature takes viewers into the near future, where civilization faces extinction, and our only hope lies in the hands of a pregnant woman and the man tasked with protecting her.
The film stars Clive Owen and Clare-Hope Ashitey as Theo and Kee, respectively, and follows a former activist who is tasked with protecting a refugee who could literally be carrying humanity's last hope. They're joined by a team of all-stars consisting of Michael Caine,...

Missing 'Yellowstone'? Watch This Bleak, Unforgiving Western Starring Wes Bentley and Milla Jovovich

If that Yellowstone finale has gotten you down, and you want to see Wes Bentley in a less villainous Western role, then look no further than the 2000 picture, The Claim. The film stars Bentley as Central Pacific Railroad surveyor Donald Dalglish as he arrives in Kingdom Come to meet with a man named Daniel Dillon (Peter Mullan). As he does, Dalglish begins to fall in love, and the audience uncovers a dark secret at the heart of the Dillon's position in the wintery, gold-mining town. A far cry from his performance as Jamie Dutton on Yellowstone, The Claim is one of those long-forgotten Westerns worthy of rediscovery. Oh, and Milla Jovovich is in this one too, perhaps in her very best role yet.

A few decades ago, if someone had told us that TV would one day stand toe-to-toe with cinema in terms of production value, we would have laughed it off like a bad punchline. But here we are—TV has evolved from a simple filler between dinner and sleep to a juggernaut of cinematic grandeur.

It’s no secret that Galadriel nearly met her demise at the hands of the Dark Lord, Sauron, in the Season 2 finale of Prime Video’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. A third season was recently confirmed and Morfydd Clark, who plays the iconic Elf, Galadriel, spoke with The Direct about her character’s journey.
“I think it’ll be fun to see her be a bit swashbuckling and joyous,” Clark said of her character's future. “Who knows if that will happen,” she said.
In Season 1, it was revealed that Halbrand, played by Charlie Vickers, was actually Sauron in disguise. Having tricked Galadriel, her hatred for him grew, and she set out to defeat him. The battle that closed out Season 2 saw Galadriel nearly losing her life at the hands of the shapeshifting Sauron. Clark said her character was ready to give her life at that moment.

Bleedin’ Balrogs. Those giant, fiery creatures really do have a habit for ruining one’s day – but battling them has made for some incredible Middle-earth moments over the years. The latest came courtesy of The Rings Of Power Season 2, which saw Peter Mullan’s Scottish Dwarf King Durin III selflessly launch himself at the big horned baddie in order to save his people, after his obsession with one of those titular rings led him to dig too deeply into the Mines Of Moria. It was one of the emotional climaxes of the fantasy series’ second season, as Durin made the ultimate sacrifice, much to the devastation of son Durin IV (Owain Arthur) and his wife Disa (Sophia Nomvete).
As epic as the scene was to watch, shooting it was, for Mullan, quite a different-feeling experience.

What better setting for a horror film than a haunted insane asylum? Whether it’s the patients in a film like The Ward, or the ghost hunting crews of films like Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum or Grave Encounters, it’s always thrilling to watch characters navigate these chilling halls, unsure of what might be lurking. One such film features a spine-chilling structure that seems to create its own patients: the 2001 film Session 9.
Director Brad Anderson’s career started with romantic comedies and dramedies–the type of films that are easy and fun to make with a group of young, hungry artists. Exclusive: When we featured New Zealand’s After the Party in our Global Breakouts slot, we were hanging our hat on a low-budget psychological family drama making waves in Australasia. In this case, we were right.
Though the series first launched on Tvnz over a year ago and then in Australia on the ABC, it has been dominating headlines in the TV sections of British newspapers after launching on Channel 4.
The first episode on Channel 4 consolidated to 1.5 million viewers and 7.1% share on linear, growing further to 1.6 million viewers with online viewing included for the first seven days. It is the most popular show on Channel 4’s online platform, and Robyn Malcolm’s starring role has been lauded by several publications. After Small Things Like These, the movie to watch is a similar drama from 2002, to learn more about life in Ireland during the 20th century. Small Things Like These is adapted from the 2021 novel by Claire Keegan and depicts the daily life of coal merchant Bill Furlong, who grows suspicious about the work of his town's Magdalene laundry and struggles with deciding whether to remain silent or retaliate. The movie stars Cillian Murphy, who also served as a producer on his first movie since his Oscar-winning performance in Oppenheimer.
Small Things Like These has received highly positive reviews and has been described as a harrowing and somber depiction of the power of the Catholic Church in Ireland during the 1980s. It shows how people in Ireland were bribed and blackmailed to remain quiet about what happened behind closed doors. Another acclaimed drama, The Magdalene Sisters, also reveals what happened behind...

Small Things Like These (2024) is a film that is intended to disturb, but not because of what it shows. Tim Mielants’ latest historical drama is not the first film about the infamous Magdalene Laundries in Ireland, as it was a major subject in Peter Mullan’s underrated drama “The Magdalene Sisters” and the Oscar-nominated Judi Dench vehicle “Philomena.” However, “Small Things Like These” avoids being derivative by presenting its exploration of the controversy as a mystery of sorts. The sad fact is that the abuse and enslavement of thousands of young women in Ireland is still a relatively unknown moment in history, and one that has certainly been forgotten when compared to other religious controversies.
“Small Things Like These” is perhaps more ambitious in the fact that it doesn’t attempt to summarize the extent of this generational abuse into a broadly accessible tragedy. It is a rather straightforward drama...

The second season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is over and done with. The final two episodes answered a lot of questions (who is the Stranger? When will the balrog show up?) and brought up a lot more (why is the Stranger? When will the balrog show up again?). Showrunner J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay are out there talking about all of it.
Let's start with the Stranger, the amnesiac wizard who we finally learned was a young(er) version of Gandalf, the most iconic character from J.R.R. Tolkien's original Lord of the Rings trilogy. Spoiler Alert: Best if you first watch Season 2’s final installment of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power before reading this interview, in which showrunners Patrick McKay and Jd Payne get granular on the whole second season of the show that climaxes with the season finale “Shadow and Flame.”
You’ll read below about the death of several main characters as Sauron destroys Eregion and its Elf leader Celebrimbor in his quest to forge the rings of power he believes will cement his rule over Middle-earth. Perhaps less surprising is the journey of The Stranger, culminating in his realization that he is Grand Elf — Gandalf for short — the iconic wizard character from Jrr Tolkien’s works.
McKay & Payne have set the stage for Season 3 and are deep in the writing even though Amazon hasn’t yet delivered a green light that seems an inevitable announcement just up the road.

That's been clear since reports first emerged about creators Patrick McKay and J.D. Payne's five-season, billion-dollar plan for J.R.R. Tolkien's masterworks.
