ShowBiz Direct has released the first trailer for Reagan, the biopic starring Dennis Quaid as Ronald Reagan, the 40th president of the United States. If it feels like we’ve been hearing about this one for a while, it’s because we have; Reagan actually wrapped production almost four years ago.
The film follows Ronald Reagan from “his humble beginnings to the glitz and glamour of Hollywood, and finally on to his biggest role as Commander in Chief set on the world stage… Told through the voice of Viktor Petrovich, a former Kgb agent whose life becomes inextricably linked with Ronald Reagan’s when Reagan first catches the Soviets’ attention as an actor in Hollywood, this film offers a perspective as unique as it is captivating.“
In addition to Dennis Quaid, Reagan stars Penelope Anne Miller as Nancy Reagan, Jon Voight as Viktor Petrovich, Mena Suvari as Jane Wyman, Kevin Dillon as Jack L. Warner,...

Skylar Astin is adorable, and Marcia Gay Harden is brilliant, and together, on So Help Me Todd Season 1, those two became an unbeatable duo.
From the outset, the show seemed to be, intentionally, a bit of a parody of itself. Part comedy, part procedural, and part slapstick.
Even the title is a bit tongue-in-cheek, and if you watched the promos for So Help Me Todd Season 2, it's evident that the writers relish the wordplay.
Throughout the first season and so far in the second, physical comedy is a staple: Margaret falls in the water when she visits Gus on his houseboat, Lawrence accidentally ingests psychedelic mushrooms in Episode 12, and Todd bears the physical effects of getting injected for a study.
The show is intentionally light-hearted and never takes itself too seriously, even when dealing with potentially serious consequences, as was felt on So Help Me Todd Season 1 Episode 18 when a bomber threatened the firm.

"You think the world is all about *your* content." Quiver has revealed the official trailer for indie horror thriller called Follow Her, yet another social media cautionary tale. This premiered at the Fantasporto and Fantaspoa Film Festivals last year, playing a few others in the US last fall. After a succesful fest run it's set to release for viewing this June including on VOD right away. "Follow Her is a psycho-sexual thriller that questions the ethical boundaries of social media." An aspiring actress responds to a mysterious classified ad and finds herself trapped in her new boss's twisted revenge fantasy. Starring Dani Barker as Jess Peters, Luke Cook, Eliana Jones, Mark Moses, Cristala Carter, and Brian Vincent. The horror site Bloody Disgusting ran a great review, saying: "The fact that Follow Her succeeds at being fun, meta, and thought-provoking, while also being a low budget, female-led project, makes this an exceptional movie.

Luke Cook and Dani Barker star in ‘Follow Her’
Sylvia Caminer’s feature narrative directorial debut Follow Me is a twisted cautionary tale and a clever skewering of internet celebrity. Social media’s made thousands of people famous for doing nothing more than filming themselves putting on makeup or declaring themselves experts on some random topic. (No actual proof is necessary.) One video is sometimes all it takes to launch a lucrative career.
Follow Her’s protagonist, Jess Peters (Dani Barker), hopes the road to financial success is paved with the online videos she surreptitiously films of men in compromising positions. Need a dominatrix to lock you in a freezer? Message Jess. Looking for a woman to tie up and tickle? Jess is your woman if the price is right.

“So Help Me Todd” made its debut on CBS Thursday night, and for anyone who saw the episode and thought, “That couldn’t happen,” well, the show’s jaw-dropping plot is rooted in creator and executive producer Scott Prendergast’s own experiences.
In the premiere episode, Joan (Marcia Gay Harden) enlists the help of her son Todd (Skyler Astin) – despite him being somewhat adrift in his life – to help her out when her husband disappears, like, without a trace.
“It is very personal to me,” Prendergast, who created the series, told TheWrap. “There was a time in my early 30s when my life was falling apart and I was trying to get into entertainment. I had just turned 30, I guess…. I had been doing various things.”
Prendergast had moved back to Portland from New York after his career wasn’t taking off. After some son-mother friction, he told his mom...

The punny title of CBS’ So Help Me Todd is the best part of So Help Me Todd.
It’s not a great pun, mind you. But it does, in general terms, what it needs to do. It evokes altruism, and the show is about a young man helping his mother. It evokes the law, and the main character’s mother is a lawyer. It also evokes God, but that part is a bait-and-switch. Audiences thinking So Help Me Todd might be a stealth continuation of CBS’ God Friended Me will be disappointed.
Speaking of name-based puns, the eponymous Todd’s mother’s name is Margaret, so if there isn’t an episode titled “Are You There, Todd? It’s Me, Margaret” before Christmas, we burn the whole place down. And speaking of Todds and Margarets, does anybody remember the comedy The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret?...

On its surface, “So Help Me Todd” is fairly straightforward. Based on creator Scott Prendergast’s own experiences, the new dramedy tells the story of high-powered lawyer Joan (Marcia Gay Harden) and her private investigator son (Skylar Astin) forging an unlikely partnership. Each episode follows a different case before the odd couple team inevitably catch the culprit and teach each other a valuable lesson. So far, so fitting for a CBS procedural. And yet there’s something deeply uncanny about “So Help Me Todd,” which pairs an aggressive perkiness with moments of drama that feel more forced than moving.
Todd and Joan spend the first few episodes sniping at each other in between finding clues. Once Todd proves that he’s a good enough private investigator to overcome his spotty past, he joins Joan’s office, where he locks horns with an uptight coworker Lyle (Tristen J. Winger) and ex-girlfriend...

"I would've been a painter, but the camera was invented." Samuel Goldwyn Films has released an official trailer for Mapplethorpe - Director's Cut, an updated version of the narrative feature Mapplethorpe, telling the story of photographer Robert Mapplethorpe. This originally premiered in 2018, and opened in 2019, but it wasn't the cut that director Ondi Timoner preferred. Mapplethorpe is a renowned photographer who was also feted with a documentary a few years ago, titled Mapplethorpe: Look at the Pictures. This film is a look at the life of the gay photographer from his rise to fame in the 1970s to his untimely death from AIDS in 1989. Matt Smith stars as Robert, along with Marianne Rendón, John Benjamin Hickey, Brandon Sklenar, McKinley Belcher III, & Mark Moses. This new "Director's Cut portrays a nuanced portrait of an artist at the height of his craft, along with the self-destructive impulses that threatened to undermine everything he prized.

"What better way for me to get over my first love than to watch him fall in love with someone else...?" Samuel Goldwyn Films has released an official trailer for a romantic comedy titled Modern Persuasion, made by actors / filmmakers Alex Appel and Jonathan Lisecki. The film is an adaptation of Jane Austen's 1817 novel "Persuasion", updated as a story about Modern Persuasion. A happily single woman focused on her career in New York is forced to deal with the aftermath of feelings about a failed relationship when "the one that got away" hires her company. The film stars Alicia Witt as Wren Cosgrove, with Bebe Neuwirth, Daniella Pineda, Liza Lapira, Mark Moses, Li Jun Li, Dominic Rains, and Shane McRae. This looks super cliche and extra schmaltzy, but it might be a fun watch with this rather spunky cast. Take a look. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Appel & Lisecki's Modern Persuasion,...

Remember how much we enjoyed Deputy Season 1 Episode 13?

Fox has made a renewal decision on Deputy, canceling the freshman police drama starring Stephen Dorff.
While broadcast networks typically wait until the last minute to make their cancellations after they have seen the new crop of pilots, this is not a typical year, and no pilots are being shot any time soon as Hollywood production was shut down over the coronavirus pandemic. Fox has been ahead of the game; this is the second freshman series the network has canceled, joining fellow drama Almost Family.

Jay Roach’s compelling but uneven takedown of former Fox News and Fox Television Stations czar Roger Ailes is less a fiery expression of political outrage than a work of entertainment aiming to be all things to all people.
The movie is introduced as “a dramatization inspired by actual events,” a blend of freely imagined fiction and carefully recreated reality.
The first hint that there will be liberties comes when erstwhile Fox News host Megyn Kelly opens the film as our fourth-wall-breaking tour guide. Strutting through Fox headquarters in a patriotic stretch dress, she shows us the offices where the Murdoch family holds court. We visit cramped cubicles in which Sean Hannity (Spencer Garrett), Geraldo Rivera (Tony Plana) and Greta Van Susteren (Anne Ramsay) denounce “fake news.” And we glimpse the feared second floor,...

Exclusive: Karrueche Tran (Claws) is set to recur on the upcoming Fox series Deputy, starring Stephen Dorff, from Entertainment One and Fox Entertainment.
Written by Will Beall and directed by David Ayer, Deputy is a cop drama that blends the spirit of a classic Western with a modern attitude and gritty authenticity. When the Los Angeles County Sheriff dies, an arcane rule forged back in the Wild West thrusts the most unlikely man into the job: a fifth-generation lawman (Dorff) who’s more comfortable taking down bad guys than navigating a sea of politics. He leads a skilled team of ambitious and complicated human beings who won’t rest until justice is served.
Tran will play Genevieve. Cute and incorrigible, she is the fun-loving, quick-witted partner of a by-the-books deputy in the department. Spunky and bright, she certainly makes an impression on everyone she comes in contact with. Genevieve has...

As the curtain comes down on Mipcom, Entertainment One has sealed the first international deals on “Deputy,” the modern-day Western procedural that will be on Fox in the U.S.
Fox has acquired the show for its channels in Portugal and Turkey. In Belgium, Telenet has pre-bought the show.
Entertainment One is distributing and the series was its big scripted launch in Cannes. Several more deals are in the offing. Procedural drama is in demand in the international market and also in fairly short supply. Entertainment One, which is in the throes of being bought by Hasbro in a $4 billion deal, has several in its catalogue, including Nathan Fillion’s ABC series “The Rookie.”

Fox has canceled first-year shows “The Cool Kids” and “The Passage.”
Vampire drama “The Passage” starred Mark-Paul Gosselaar, comedy “The Cool Kids” was co-created by Charlie Day and starred David Alan Grier, Martin Mull, Leslie Jordan and Vicki Lawrence.
Those two cuts follow cancellations for “The Gifted” and “Rel.” “Gotham” has also come to a conclusion, though that one was planned ahead of time.
Also Read: 'Grey's Anatomy,' 'How to Get Away With Murder' and 'Station 19' Renewed at ABC
Fox has previously renewed “9-1-1,” “Bob’s Burgers,” “Empire,” “Family Guy,” “Last Man Standing,” “The Masked Singer,” “The Resident” and “The Simpsons.”
We’re still awaiting decisions on “Lethal Weapon,” “The Orville,” “Proven Innocent” and “Star.”
Fox’s upfront presentation will take place Monday at New York City’s Beacon Theater. There, the network will debut its new fall TV shows for advertisers.

Now standing as its own entity, Fox can do what it pleases when it comes to new series pickups.
Four new dramas, a live-action comedy, and an animated comedy currently please Fox. Let's take a looks at the dramas!
A serial killer drama titled Prodigal Son, an AI drama called Next, a police drama titled Deputy, and an adaptation of Australian drama Sisters have all gotten series orders.
Considered a good companion piece to the recently renewed Empire, sudser Filthy Rich starring Kim Cattrall is still in contention and deals are underway.
Deptuty comes from Will Beall and eOne and Fox Entertainment studios. Deputy stars Stephen Dorff and is a modern cop drama that blends the spirit of a classic Western with a modern-day attitude and gritty authenticity.

Fox just made its first new series pickups, ordering four of its six drama pilots to series. That includes cop/serial killer drama Prodigal Son, starring Tom Payne and Michael Sheen; John Slattery’s AI drama neXt; police drama Deputy, headlined by Stephen Dorff; and the Annie Weisman/Jason Katims sister drama; based on an Australian format.
The drama competition at Fox had been fierce virtually from the start with five of the six pilots emerging as solid contenders. The fifth in the group — soapy family drama Filthy Rich, headlined by Kim Cattrall, which is considered a suitable companion to Empire — remains in contention with deals being worked out.
The mass pickup of new drama series at Fox, which only ordered two new hourlong shows last year, is not good news for the network’s bubble dramas, Lethal Weapon, The Passage and Star.
Fox Orders Live-Action Comedy Series ‘Outmatched’ and Animated ‘The Great North’
I hear Fox’s sixth drama pilot, Tom Kapinos’ Lovestruck, is not going forward at the network. But the show, whose first season takes place over the course of single night at a wedding, reportedly had tested well and has been well received within 20th Century Fox TV, which is expected to shop it elsewhere, similarly to its 2018 Fox pilot Mixtape, which was picked up to series by Netflix.
Of the newly picked-up Fox dramas, one, neXt (plus Filthy Rich), comes from Fox’s former corporate sibling 20th Century Fox TV. The others come from other studios, Warner Bros. TV (Prodigal Son), Universal TV (Weisman/Katims) and eOne (Deputy), underlining the now-independent network’s commitment to work with all suppliers. All are co-productions with Fox Entertainment. The Fox drama lineup also includes top acting talent with Sheen, Slattery and Dorff.
The pickup of Prodigal Son makes it 3-for-3 for Berlanti Prods., with all three of the company’s broadcast pilots this season going to series, including the CW’s Batwoman and Katy Keene.
Prodigal Son passed one of the biggest tests for a pilot – recasting its lead, with Payne replacing originally cast Finn Jones after the pilot read. Payne and Sheen, who plays his father, proved a formidable duo, drawing praise for their acting — especially Sheen who has a showcase role as a notorious serial killer.
2019 Fox Pilots and Series Orders
Police drama Deputy has been praised for Dorff’s acting and the directing work of Bright helmer David Ayer. eOne secured Dorff in what might be the biggest talent deal so far this broadcast pilot season. Dorff will reportedly be paid north of $200,000 an episode. If the show goes to a second season, Dorff would become an executive producer. In conjunction with his casting in Deputy, Dorff made a feature script development deal with eOne to develop and star in a movie, which would be produced by Ayer and Chris Long’s Cedar Park Entertainment.
The four dramas join two comedies picked up to series today by Fox, Outmatched (fka Geniuses) and animated half-hour The Great North. and previously ordered straight-to-series animated comedies Bless the Harts and Duncanville.

The New Fox is ramping up for the 2019-2020 season with six new series pick ups.
The broadcaster handed out orders for four dramas — “Deputy,” “Prodigal Son,” “neXt,” and the untitled Annie Weisman/Jason Katims project — as well as two comedies. One of the comedies is the animated series “The Great North” and the second is the multi-cam “Outmatched,” formerly known as “Geniuses.” These orders join the previously announced straight-to-series orders for the animated comedies “Duncanville” and “Bless the Harts” at Fox.
Each of the newly announced pick ups is a co-production with Fox Entertainment (formerly Fox Broadcasting). The move will allow Fox to maintain a stake in the shows despite not having a vertically-integrated studio like they did before the 21st Century Fox-Disney merger that saw 20th Century Fox Television move under the Disney umbrella. Both “Duncanville” and “Bless the Harts” are co-productions as well. “Duncanville” is produced by Universal Television,...

Among the dramas are David Ayer’s “Deputy,” the John Slattery-led “neXt,” the Greg Berlanti-produced “Prodigal Son,” and an untitled project from Jason Katims and Annie Weisman starring Brittany Snow. Each of those series comes from a different studio — eOne, 20th Century Fox Television, Warner Bros. Television and Universal Television, respectively — and is a co-production with Fox Entertainment.
The duo of comedies ordered by Fox include the live-action family sitcom “Outmatched,” starring Jason Biggs and Maggie Lawson, and the animated series “The Great North,” featuring Nick Offerman, Jenny Slate and Megan Mullally. Gotham alumna Victoria Cartagena is set as a series regular in Fox’s drama pilot based on the Endemol Shine Australia series Sisters, from Annie Weisman, Jason Katims, the original series’ co-creator Imogen Banks, Universal TV and Endemol Shine North America. Written by Weisman based on the Australian series created by Jonathan Gavin and Banks, with Leslye Headland set to direct the pilot, the drama centers on Julia Bechley (Brittany Snow), an only child who finds her life turned upside down when her father is forced to reveal that over the course of his pioneering career as a fertility doctor, he used his own sperm to conceive dozens of children. Robert Mapplethorpe shot flowers, children, celebs (Warhol, Capote, the young Arnold Schwarzenegger) and himself in high-contrast black-and-white that commanded attention. But what made him infamous and iconic were his portraits of nudes, often reduced to body parts (a hand, a torso, a black penis enveloped in white hands) and often in Bdsm positions that increasingly reflected his queer-world obsessions. A year after Mapplethorpe’s death, a retrospective of his work at the Contemporary Arts Center in Cincinnati was charged with obscenity simply for displaying his so-called “dirty pictures,” creating a...

Former Doctor Who star Matt Smith is Robert Mapplethorpe, with Marianne Rendon as punk poet/rocker Patti Smith, Mapplethorpe’s muse.
Mapplethorpe discovered himself both sexually and artistically in New York City throughout the 70’s and 80’s. The film depicts Mapplethorpe’s life from moments before he and Patti Smith moved into the famed Chelsea Hotel, home to a world of bohemian chic. There, he began photographing its inhabitants and his new circle of friends, including artists and musicians, socialites, film stars, and members of the Bds&M underground.
That work displayed eroticism in a way that had never been examined nor displayed before to the public. Much of it was derided or outright banned in certain locales during his lifetime,...

"Even that which we deem obscene, you make look more beautiful than I thought possible." Indeed. Samuel Goldwyn Films has unveiled the first official trailer for Mapplethorpe, the new feature film about famed photographer Robert Mapplethorpe. This originally premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival earlier this year, and played at a few other fests and is opening in Us theaters next March. Mapplethorpe is a renowned photographer who was also feted with a fantastic documentary a few years back, titled Mapplethorpe: Look at the Pictures. The narrative film went under the working titled The Perfect Moment, before they settled on simply Mapplethorpe. It's a look at the life of the gay photographer from his rise to fame in the 1970s to his untimely death from AIDS in 1989. Matt Smith stars as Robert, along with Marianne Rendón, John Benjamin Hickey, Brandon Sklenar, McKinley Belcher III, and Mark Moses. I'm a very big fan of Mapplethorpe,...

Rising to prominence in a changing cultural landscape, Robert Mapplethorpe may have been just been in the right place at the right time. At the cultural vanguard he experienced both the free love era of the 1960s with Patti Smith–treated in the film as an impromptu ordeal he was thrown into likely to satisfy his parents–and documented the AIDs crisis as his subjects started to fade away. As a biopic, Mapplethorpe comes up short, falling into the kind of tropes artist pictures tend to plunge into, full of grandiose speeches foreshadowing what’s to come, perhaps a victim of low-budget indie filmmaking forcing compromises. Providing a Wikipedia overview of a complex career, the film chooses to provoke with Mapplethorpe’s images rather than totally engage with his conceptual practices.

There is a lot of penis in Ondi Timoner’s “Mapplethorpe,” a streamlined, straightforward biopic about the photographer Robert Mapplethorpe. For those familiar with the late artist’s work, that may not come as much of a surprise — many of his most famous images center on male genitalia, rendering plump and veiny dicks with the same religious awe that Michelangelo sculpted “The Pietà.” On the other hand, it’s rare to see any peen in a major motion picture, let alone dozens of them in close-up. Not since the State of the Union have so many flaccid tools proudly displayed themselves in one place. How sad that it still feels transgressive to show them at all, and how much we owe to Mapplethorpe that depicting them is no longer considered obscene.
Of course, Mapplethorpe’s photography was less controversial for the flesh that it showed than for how it positioned...

A renegade Catholic boy raised by conservative parents in Queens, New York, Robert Mapplethorpe transformed some of the most blasphemous subjects on earth — gay sex, Satanism, bondage — into beautiful black-and-white images. In her first scripted feature, doc filmmaker Ondi Timoner (“We Live in Public”) effectively does the opposite, taking a queer art-world enfant terrible and filtering his life back into gritty 16mm color, attempting to convey the nuances that made him such an enigmatic figure. To her credit, Timoner doesn’t shy away from the hardcore bits, which means her film will have to go out unrated (or else suffer the damnation of an Nc-17), but neither does she capture what made the radical photographer tick.
