At the turn of this century, a crime series titled Cold Case was quite a rage among viewers. Starring Kathryn Morris, a Philadelphia detective with her problems, who went on solving a cold case after another, the series ran for seven years. Dept. Q, a new Netflix series with a similar concept that will open its cold case files on May 29, 2025, might repeat such a success.

The new series is based on the books by Danish author Jussi Adler-Olsen, and stars Matthew Goode as Edinburgh, Scotland, detective Carl Morck, who has quite a few personal demons to resolve.

During an attack, an officer was left dead, and his partner was paralyzed, and the guilt was pressing on Morck's shoulders. To regain his confidence, Morck is tasked with opening a cold case department - Dept. Q.

Scott Frank wrote and directed the series, insisting that Goode be cast in the main role.

Cold Case's legacy is reflected on by one of the show's stars, looking back on the long-running procedural that was briefly considered for a revival. Running from 2003 to 2010 for a total of seven seasons and 156 episodes, Cold Case centered on Detective Lilly Rush (Kathryn Morris), a detective with the Philadelphia Police Department who specializes in investigations that are no longer actively pursued. With a cast that also included Justin Chambers, Thom Barry, John Finn, Jeremy Ratchford, Danny Pino, Sarah Brown, and Tracie Thomas, a reboot of Cold Casewas floated but did not move forward.

Cold Case is getting the reboot treatment at CBS. Following the revival of CSI, it's been revealed that the network has put into development a reboot of Cold Case, another crime procedural from Jerry Bruckheimer Television.

Per Deadline, negotiations are currently underway for the Cold Case reboot series, which comes from original series creator Meredith Stiehm. The new show will serve as a sequel series to the original, set 15 years after the series finale that was aired in 2010. Revealing a big change in location, as the original show was set in Philadelphia, the plan is for the reboot to follow a "new team of tenacious detectives who investigate cold cases across the Southwest." While that implies an all-new cast of characters, it would seem that special appearances of original cast members might still be possible, given that it's set in the same world.

Fifteen years after the original series ended, this new iteration would follow an entirely different group of detectives dedicated to investigating unsolved crimes. Exclusive: Kathryn Morris has signed on to the ensemble independent film Hayseed. The dark comedy murder mystery comes from first-time writer-director Travis Burgess. Michael V. Brown and Eric Cotti serve as producers.

Set in a small town in Michigan, the film follows the investigation of a church congregation after their reverend is found dead. Morris plays Joyce Metts, a former beauty queen now a waitress at the local diner and a jealous type, prone to gossip. She is protective of her daughter Willa, who is a high school senior ready to leave town on her athletic scholarship.

Morris is best known for her starring role in the hit series Cold Case which ran for seven season and remains one of television’s most watched dramas. After her breakout role in Rod Lurie’s The Contender, some of her additional film work includes The Dirt, Hostage and Moneyball.

Japanese pay-tv group, Wowow has greenlighted a third season of its local adaptation of U.S. hit series “Cold Case.” It is expected to premiere in winter 2020.

The announcement follows agreement with licensor Warner Bros. International Television Production. The company said that the success of “Cold Case” helped usher in a trend of Japanese networks remaking American TV drama series. These include “Suits” and “The Good Wife.” A Japanese version of “24” is also planned to be made in 2020.

The new season, titled “Cold Case: The Door to the Truth”, stars Yoshida Yo, Nagayama Kento, Takito Kenichi, Mitsuishi Ken and Miura Tomokazu. Directors include Takafumi Hatano, Akira Uchikata and Toshiyuki Morishita.

From Mickey Fisher, the Reverie TV show is a cutting-edge techno-thriller. The drama centers on former hostage negotiator Mara Kint (Shahi), an expert on human behavior. After a horrific, personal tragedy, Mara left that field to become a college professor.

Her semi-retirement is totally upended, when her former boss, Charlie Ventana (Haysbert), drafts her for a new mission. Their new mission is to save regular people who have essentially lost themselves in a virtual-reality of their own making.

Reverie is done at NBC. 

The peacock network has swung the ax on the Sarah Shahi-fronted thriller after just one season. 

Launching in May to 2.9 million viewers and a mere 0.6 rating in the demo, Reverie Season 1 went on to average 2.1 million total viewers and a 0.4 rating. 

With such low on-air ratings, the show was not expected to return for a sophomore run, and the biggest surprise was that it got to air all of its episodes without being pulled from the schedule.

"A former detective specializing in human behavior is brought in when the launch of an advanced virtual reality program has dangerous and unintended consequences," reads the official logline. 

Reverie was picked up to series in May 2017 and was considered one of NBC's more promising pilots, but the delayed launch, coupled with the lack of viewer interest is likely the biggest reasons for its demise.

Nightmarish news for Reverie fans: NBC has cancelled the Sarah Shahi-fronted virtual reality thriller after one season.

Reverie premiered at the end of May to 2.9 million total viewers and a 0.6 demo rating, but spent most of its 10-episode freshman run in the 2 million/0.4 range. Among all of this summer’s scripted fare, it ranked fourth (behind Marlon, Shades of Blue and Elementary), while soundly beating the off season’s other big network drama, CBS’ Salvation.

In the “Black Mirror” episode “Be Right Back,” artist Martha (Hayley Atwell) makes a last-ditch effort to deal with the overwhelming grief of losing her boyfriend Ash (Domhnall Gleeson). After his fatal car accident, Martha uploads all of his social media into an AI that allows it to mimic the way he thinks, speaks, and acts. NBC’s new summer series “Reverie” also allows people to revisit loved ones via their social media footprint, although in a different setting.

While “Black Mirror” brought the AI to life into Martha’s sphere of existence first via text and phone chats and then in a bio-enhanced android, NBC’s series makes the user enter a virtual world for the reunion. Not bound by the mundane rules of physics and logic, this alternate existence allows “Reverie” to take fanciful flights that lead to exciting visual and psychological explorations.

The psychological thriller focuses on the Reverie program, which uses a client's social media to create a virtual-reality dream world.

Unfortunately, some prefer the virtual world to reality, and Charlie, head of security for Onira-tech, recruits his former co-worker, Mara Kint, to enter these dream scenarios and entice these clients out before they die in the real world.

BMW Films has released a new trailer for the short film “The Escape,” starring Clive Owen, Dakota Fanning and Vera Farmiga, Coming Soon reports. In 2001 and 2002, BMW released a series of eight short films called "The Hire" that starred Clive Owen as a slick getaway driver. They were a precursor to movies like Drive and The Transporter, and one of the coolest aspects was that each short was directed by a well-known filmmaker and featured other movie star talent.

We've known that District 9 filmmaker Neill Blomkamp has been working on a mystery project with Jon Bernthal and Dakota Fanning because he teased the project on his Instagram:
