At the turn of this century, a crime series titled Cold Case was quite a rage among viewers. Starring Kathryn Morris, a Philadelphia detective with her problems, who went on solving a cold case after another, the series ran for seven years. Dept. Q, a new Netflix series with a similar concept that will open its cold case files on May 29, 2025, might repeat such a success.
The new series is based on the books by Danish author Jussi Adler-Olsen, and stars Matthew Goode as Edinburgh, Scotland, detective Carl Morck, who has quite a few personal demons to resolve.
During an attack, an officer was left dead, and his partner was paralyzed, and the guilt was pressing on Morck's shoulders. To regain his confidence, Morck is tasked with opening a cold case department - Dept. Q.
Scott Frank wrote and directed the series, insisting that Goode be cast in the main role.

It's been nearly a decade and a half since the TV phenomenon known as Lost came to its conclusion, and even though not all the show's cast members have managed to maintain that same level of brightness in the spotlight that the show had once allowed them, some have gotten extremely lucky. When fans think of the show's most successful cast members, names like Evangeline Lily and Daniel Dae Kim are sure to come to mind. However, even though Matthew Fox has taken an extended hiatus from acting, it's impossible to deny that he, too, has certainly had one of the most successful post-series finale careers. While his acquired film credits are small, they've been pretty impressive, from We Are Marshall to Speed Racer. It's Bone Tomahawk (the last major film he appeared in), however, that has become arguably his most popular one.

Nearly 15 years after the original series went off the air, a Cold Case reboot was in development but has since been scrapped. Debuting in 2003, the original series was created by Meredith Stiehm and produced by TV maven Jerry Bruckheimer. In the show, Detective Lilly Rush (Kathryn Morris) of the Philadelphia Police Department investigates cold cases that have long since been shelved to provide victims with closure and expose glaring issues in the police system. It’s not often I’d be talking about Agatha Christie, Renny Harlin, Val Kimer and LL Cool J in the same breath, but thanks to the world of Tinseltown magic, here we are! And, before you’re mis-led into thinking this video is about the great Netflix show of the same name, let me just set the record straight. This ain’t that one folks. Nope, the movie we’re focusing on today somehow manages to blend the classic British literary world of Agatha Christie with LL Cool J spitting out lines like. That’s right gore-hounds, twenty years ago director Renny Harlin was best known for action classics, pirate movies, dangling Sylvester Stallone from great heights and giant sharks; way before the likes of The Meg and more recently, Under Paris. Then, an intriguing project came his way that would blend the worlds of Agatha Christie and gangster rappers,...

The CBS crime drama Cold Case was vastly underrated, with a stellar cast and thoughtfully crafted episodes. CBS is reportedly developing a new Cold Case series, which would bring back at least one actor. The potential Cold Case revival can capitalize on renewed interest in cold cases and provide a unique TV experience.
A Cold Case revival might finally get the CBS crime drama the recognition it's always deserved -- but more than that, it's exactly what would spice up a predictable genre. Detective Lilly Rush and her colleagues were a breath of fresh air when Cold Case premiered in 2003, and they developed a loyal fan base over seven seasons and more than 150 episodes because they didn't do things the procedural way.

Cold Case is getting the reboot treatment at CBS. Following the revival of CSI, it's been revealed that the network has put into development a reboot of Cold Case, another crime procedural from Jerry Bruckheimer Television.
Per Deadline, negotiations are currently underway for the Cold Case reboot series, which comes from original series creator Meredith Stiehm. The new show will serve as a sequel series to the original, set 15 years after the series finale that was aired in 2010. Revealing a big change in location, as the original show was set in Philadelphia, the plan is for the reboot to follow a "new team of tenacious detectives who investigate cold cases across the Southwest." While that implies an all-new cast of characters, it would seem that special appearances of original cast members might still be possible, given that it's set in the same world.

Procedurals are some of the most popular and long-lasting TV shows. Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, for example, is the longest-running primetime U.S. live-action series in the history of television. And procedurals like Criminal Minds or Blue Bloods have been on television for over ten years. With so many seasons, every show has introduced some memorable characters. But not every procedural does justice to its female characters.
Because procedurals are action-packed shows, sometimes the female characters lack development in favor of their male counterparts. And this is where shows like Bones or Cold Case stand out, as they were able to bring multifaceted female characters to the screen. The best-written female characters are fleshed-out and have detailed personality traits and stories, and aren't one-dimensional or based on stereotypes.

Reverie is done at NBC.
The peacock network has swung the ax on the Sarah Shahi-fronted thriller after just one season.
Launching in May to 2.9 million viewers and a mere 0.6 rating in the demo, Reverie Season 1 went on to average 2.1 million total viewers and a 0.4 rating.
With such low on-air ratings, the show was not expected to return for a sophomore run, and the biggest surprise was that it got to air all of its episodes without being pulled from the schedule.

"A former detective specializing in human behavior is brought in when the launch of an advanced virtual reality program has dangerous and unintended consequences," reads the official logline.
Reverie was picked up to series in May 2017 and was considered one of NBC's more promising pilots, but the delayed launch, coupled with the lack of viewer interest is likely the biggest reasons for its demise.

Nightmarish news for Reverie fans: NBC has cancelled the Sarah Shahi-fronted virtual reality thriller after one season.
Reverie premiered at the end of May to 2.9 million total viewers and a 0.6 demo rating, but spent most of its 10-episode freshman run in the 2 million/0.4 range. Among all of this summer’s scripted fare, it ranked fourth (behind Marlon, Shades of Blue and Elementary), while soundly beating the off season’s other big network drama, CBS’ Salvation.

NBC has opted not to renew high-concept drama series Reverie for a second season. The news is not a surprise following the series’ low-rated freshman run.
Reverie, starring Sarah Shahi and Dennis Haysbert, premiered on May 30 and averaged 2.1 million viewers in Live+same day, the smallest viewership for an NBC original series this past summer.
From Extant creator Mickey Fisher, thriller Reverie followed Mara Kint (Shahi), a former hostage negotiator and expert on human behavior who became a college professor after facing an unimaginable personal tragedy. But when her former boss, Charlie Ventana (Haysbert), brings her in to save ordinary people who have lost themselves in a highly advanced immersive virtual-reality program in which you can live out your wildest dreams, she finds that in saving others, she may actually have discovered a way to save herself.
The cast also included Sendhil Ramamurthy, Jessica Lu and Kathryn Morris.

Last summer, the Peacock Network released a horror series, Midnight, Texas, and while it didn't burn up the Nielsen ratings, it did well enough to score a season two renewal. Let's call this Touched by a Vr Angel.
A former police negotiator chooses to bring people back to reality on Reverie Season 1 Episode 1.
And maybe, just maybe, she can heal herself as well.
This new drama offers the none-too-subtle message of "Get off your phones and take in the world around you."
Wait a sec. I got a text.
Where was I?
Oh, yeah. Reality: let's embrace it.

I suppose, if you're going to have somebody yank you out of paradise, granted for your own good, why not have it be Sarah Shahi?
It's good to have Shahi back in a starring role on TV. It's been far too long since Person of Interest left the air. (I know. Only two years. It just seems longer.)
She returns on another series that's dealing with cutting-edge technology. Shaw's tactics aren't going to work here,...

In the “Black Mirror” episode “Be Right Back,” artist Martha (Hayley Atwell) makes a last-ditch effort to deal with the overwhelming grief of losing her boyfriend Ash (Domhnall Gleeson). After his fatal car accident, Martha uploads all of his social media into an AI that allows it to mimic the way he thinks, speaks, and acts. NBC’s new summer series “Reverie” also allows people to revisit loved ones via their social media footprint, although in a different setting.
While “Black Mirror” brought the AI to life into Martha’s sphere of existence first via text and phone chats and then in a bio-enhanced android, NBC’s series makes the user enter a virtual world for the reunion. Not bound by the mundane rules of physics and logic, this alternate existence allows “Reverie” to take fanciful flights that lead to exciting visual and psychological explorations.

Be careful what you wish for. That could certainly be the tagline for Reverie, debuting at 10 p.m. Wednesday, May 30.
The psychological thriller focuses on the Reverie program, which uses a client's social media to create a virtual-reality dream world.
Unfortunately, some prefer the virtual world to reality, and Charlie, head of security for Onira-tech, recruits his former co-worker, Mara Kint, to enter these dream scenarios and entice these clients out before they die in the real world.
Reverie stars Sarah Shahi, Dennis Haysbert, Kathryn Morris, Sendhil Ramamurthy and Jessica Lu.
