The Iconic Role James Spader Called ‘‘Appalling’’ Is How I Fell in Love With Legal Dramas
Image
James Spader once called his iconic role “appalling,” and frankly speaking, I do get it. But that very role is how I fell headfirst into legal dramas. There’s something magnetic about characters who’re complicated, flawed, and unapologetically intense.

Spader’s portrayal was a solid ride through sharp wit, moral gray zones, and courtroom drama. Sure, it wasn’t your typical hero story, but that’s what hooked me. Legal dramas don’t just show law; they expose the messy, chaotic humanity behind it. And that’s why I’m obsessed.

Why James Spader’s “appalling” Alan Shore is the unpredictable heart of The Practice James Spader and William Shatner in The Practice | Credits: ABC

James Spader calling his iconic role “appalling” is honestly the best kind of honesty, and that’s exactly why I fell in love with legal dramas in the first place. Alan Shore isn’t that typical,...

Everything We Know About Red Sonja (2025)
Image
Last Updated on April 12, 2025

Who doesn’t love a character that will threaten to cleave your head from your body with their mighty sword? The old Hercules films starring Steve Reeves up to the Conan films of the 80s showed that audiences were ready to head back to a mystical world. After the success of the Schwarzenegger Conan films, film mogul Dino de Laurentiis saw an opportunity to make a female-led film of the same genre. Red Sonja was released in 1985 and ultimately was a box office flop. Those of us who saw it as kids still loved it and put it alongside the Conan films as a trilogy. It has since gained a cult following. Ever since then, another Red Sonja film has been in the works in some form or another and has yet to be made. This fall, we will finally see the red-haired warrior grace the big screen again,...

Arnold Schwarzenegger and Brigitte Nielsen in Red Sonja (1985)
Red Sonja reboot has been rated R for bloody violence
Arnold Schwarzenegger and Brigitte Nielsen in Red Sonja (1985)
A reboot of Red Sonja spent nearly fifteen years in development hell before going into production in 2022 with director M.J. Bassett (Solomon Kane) at the helm. Before Bassett signed on, the project had passed through the hands of directors Robert Rodriguez, Simon West, Bryan Singer, and Joey Soloway, with Hannah John-Kamen, Rose McGowan, and Amber Heard being considered for the lead role. Matilda Lutz ended up starring in the film, and while we still don’t know when we’ll get to see her version of the title character in action, the long-delayed movie has taken a step forward, earning its rating from the Motion Picture Association ratings board! The Red Sonja reboot is officially rated R for strong/bloody violence.

Bassett directed the film from a screenplay by Joey Soloway (Transparent) and Tasha Huo (Netflix’s Tomb Raider anime). This version of Red Sonja is derived from the sword...

'Red Sonja' Star Martyn Ford Teases His Villain in the Remake
Image
Martyn Ford has broken into the mainstream like the Kool-Aid Man bursting through a wall. The actor, with the musculature of a bodybuilder and the cadence of a confident Englishman, has gone from social media workouts to starring in blockbusters and streaming series (The Sandman and Those About to Die). He's now playing the legendary giant Goliath in Prime Video's new series, House of David, and will be playing an equally formidable villain in the upcoming remake of Red Sonja. In an interview with MovieWeb, Ford told us that his mysterious character in that movie, General Karlak, is set to be visually "phenomenal," so once can imagine Ford's already intimidating physique combined with wild CGI.

Ford has been great at multifaceted but terrifying villains, and compared Red Sonja's Karlak (a villain of the future) to Goliath. "I think there's always similarities between the ultimate bad guys and their mannerisms and their energies.

Arnold Schwarzenegger and Brigitte Nielsen in Red Sonja (1985)
Red Sonja | Fantasy reboot due for release in 2025
Arnold Schwarzenegger and Brigitte Nielsen in Red Sonja (1985)
Thirty years after it was last adapted for the large screen, the troubled Red Sonja reboot is finally coming out in 2025, a report suggests.

Rome wasn’t built in a day, but it’s taken a staggeringly long time to reboot Red Sonja. Based on the comic book character of the same name, the fantasy yarn was first adapted into a movie in 1985, with Brigitte Nielsen as the titular sword-swinging warrior.

A reboot was first talked about in 2008, and has spent the years since roaming the various circles of development hell. Bryan Singer was going to direct a new Red Sonja at one point, but then it was discovered that he’s (allegedly) an awful human being and bowed out. According to Deadline, though, the new Red Sonja has been picked up for a UK and Irish release by Signature Entertainment, and is scheduled for release in 2025. The outlet also...

Sylvester Stallone Says His 2000 Flop Get Carter Is His Best Movie
Image
Sylvester Stallone has a very different view on one of his worst received movies, believing it to be his “best” and most “underrated.” Back in 2000, the action hero took the lead in an ill-fated remake of Michael Caine classic Get Carter, but he does not seem to view it with the contempt that the vast majority of both critics and audiences showed it.

Despite delivering an Oscar-winning performance in Rocky, and starring in many other great action films, it is impossible to deny that Stallone has also produced some of the most incredible dross ever to grace cinema screens. His current movie, Alarum, has become his third movie to score a bottom-of-the-shop 0% Rotten Tomatoes score, and while Get Carter was not quite hammered into the ground to that extent, it was not seen through the rose-tinted spectacles that Stallone appears to be wearing.

Stallone’s comments were made in a...

Eric Dane's 10 Best Movies And TV Shows
Image
The best Eric Dane movies and TV shows have mostly come on the small screen, with some major roles in significant television shows. While Dane was a high school athlete, he moved into acting after working in a school production of Arthur Miller's All My Sons. After graduation, he moved to Los Angeles and started taking on smaller roles in television shows. He finally got his first major role after appearing in The Wonder Years, Saved by the Bell, Roseanne, and Married... with Children.

This was in a medical drama called Gideon's Crossing. While that show didn't last over one season, it was a big reason he got cast as Dr. Sloan in Grey's Anatomy, which made him a star. That show brought him a lot of attention from critics and award ceremonies, and it helped him move on to other starring roles on television and a handful of movies along the way.

Image
Hounds of War brings the gritty action fans expect, following mercenary Ryder on a mission gone wrong and his ensuing quest for vengeance. Director Isaac Florentine aims straight for the heart of ’90s action flicks with this modern throwback. Starring Frank Grillo as the battle-hardened Ryder, Hounds of War wastes little time setting up its story of betrayal and explosive payback.

We’re dropped into the action right away as Ryder arrives in Malta to assist his brother for a covert military operation. But things immediately take a bloody turn when their commanding officer, Colonel Hart, sets them up, leaving Ryder the sole survivor amid the carnage. With his brother and his pregnant wife among the dead, Ryder retreats to plot his retaliation. Six months later, he’s ready to get even, taking his revenge up the chain of command all the way to the top.

But will Ryder’s...

After all, it's been nearly four decades since Red Sonja graced the big screen, with Brigitte Nielsen bringing the iconic hero to life way back in 1985.

Earlier this week, we caught up with action icon Rhona Mitra to discuss her role in XYZ Films' Hounds of War. She's been tapped to play an unnamed character in the new Red Sonja and we asked what she could tease about the project.

"I know that I'm not really allowed to say anything about that.

Red Sonja set pic shows a bloody Matilda Lutz in bikini armor

Matilda Lutz ended up starring in the film, and while we still don’t know when we’ll get to see her version of the title character in action, a set pic has just arrived online to give us a look at a blood spattered Lutz wearing a version of the character’s iconic bikini armor. You can check it out at the bottom of this article.

Frank Grillo & Robert Patrick in Action Thriller 'Hounds of War' Trailer
Image
"Why are you here?" "Revenge." What a line. XYZ Films has revealed an official trailer for an action movie called Hounds of War, a new movie from the action director Isaac Florentine. This one will be released on VOD directly starting in September. Hounds of War about the best military mercenaries money can buy. Known as "The Hounds", they are sent on a final mission by their creator: a carefully planned trap set up to destroy them. So another "trap" movie to play against M. Night Shyamalan's Trap? Sure why not. Hounds of War stars Rhona Mitra, Robert Patrick, and Frank Grillo, with Steven Elder, Yvonne Mai, Joey Ansah, Lee Charles, and Mark Strange. Looks like it was filmed mostly on Malta, which is an infamous tax haven and a nice place to save money making a movie, even though it's not the most exciting place to shoot something this generic & derivative.

Underworld: Awakening (2012) – Wtf Happened to This Horror Movie?
Image
When you’ve reached part three in a movie franchise and you’ve realised that making it a prequel, and that dropping the main selling point may have affected your box office, what do you do? Make more hairy swearwolf and vampire movies of course. That’s exactly what you should do! I mean, it’s a tactic that’s been going on for years in Hollywood; to rinse a known, and existing IP for all it’s worth, in the name of making a quick buck. Usually in a desperate attempt to satiate fans of certain characters or franchises, and often at the expense of a decent story, sadly. Just look at the Die Hard and Terminator franchises. The first three Die Hard movies are great, and showcase the trials and tribulations of Bruce Willis’ weary, wise-cracking cop perfectly. Then the series lost its way and, sadly due to Willis’ unfortunate health issues,...

Mark Wahlbergs 48% Rotten Tomatoes One-Man Army Flick Sneaks Into the Top 5 on Paramount+
Image
One of Mark Wahlberg's most thrilling movies that didn't quite hit the mark with critics is finding success on a new streaming platform. Shooter, the 2007 one-person army psychological thriller movie starring Wahlberg, Michael Pea, Rhona Mitra, Danny Glover, and Tate Donovan has snuck into the top five on Paramount+ and sits securely at #5. The movie comes from director Antoine Fuqua, who is best known for his work directing The Equalizer movies and also Emancipation, starring Will Smith. The script for Shooter was penned by Jonathan Lemkin, whose only writing credit in the 17 years since came from penning one episode of the Shooter spin-off series of the same name starring Ryan Phillippe and Shantel VanSanten.

Five Post-Apocalyptic Horror Movies to Stream This Week
Image
World-ending apocalypses are inherently terrifying, but sometimes what comes after is even scarier. The remnants of humanity are left to pick up the pieces of a world torn apart by devastating catastrophe, with resources far scarcer than ever-present threats.

This week’s streaming picks belong to post-apocalyptic horror movies that explore life after the world as we know it has ended, where conditions are harsh and survival odds are low.

While the frequent recurring theme of post-apocalyptic movies highlights how humankind is its own worst enemy, these five titles take drastically different approaches. Some favor retro style, while others infuse their wastelands with a heaping helping of inhuman monsters.

Here’s where you can stream them this week.

Underworld: Rise of the Lycans (2009) – Wtf Happened to This Horror Movie?
Image
We all love a good old forbidden love story, right? Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet has been re-conceptualised countless times over the years; from stylish adaptations by Aussie auteurs, traditional period dramas and with, of all things, gnomes. This is just a drop in the vast ocean of movies that have taken on the Bard’s classic tale, and for the third entry in the popular Underworld series, it was time for a flashback to some forbidden Lycan and vampire love. The first Underworld movie had a backstory that explained how vampires and werewolves came to be mortal enemies, thanks to a feud that began between Michael Sheen’s super sexy Lycan, Lucian, and Bill Nighy’s nosferatu vampire Viktor. You see, hairy Lucian had been secretly romancing the fanged bloodsucker’s daughter Sonja, played by Doomsday’s Rhona Mitra. And with that premise, you can probably guess where this threequel is going.

Dr. Rachel Scott's death shocked fans, but actress Rhona Mitra left the show on apparently bad terms. Why did Rhona Mitra leave The Last Ship and how did Dr. Rachel Scott exit the TNT series? The ship's Commander Chandler (Eric Dane) must work with his crew and Dr. Rachel Scott (Rhona Mitra), to find a cure for the virus. “It seems as if he simply wandered onto the wrong set”: John Hamm’s Worst Movie Was So Bad That It Only Earned $7,943 After Awful Criticism
Image
After his famed role as Don Draper on AMC’s critically acclaimed drama series Mad Men, Jon Hamm has experienced a particularly peculiar career transition in recent years. Also known for his work in Sucker Punch & Top Gun: Maverick, the actor, 53, has acted in both highly regarded film and TV roles during his career.

But did you know, nestled within his portfolio of work, there lies a film that has almost slipped through the cracks of cinematic memory?

John Hamm in Stolen | 2 Bridges Productions

In 2009, he took on the role in Stolen, a frequently overlooked chapter of Hamm’s life that true cinephiles may recall. Though the actor’s renowned charm and depth could elevate any role, this murder mystery remarkably stood as an endeavor that slipped past audiences and critics alike.

Reflecting on the Rotten Tomatoes Rating of John Hamm’s Stolen
