There are certainly harder, more unforgiving jobs than being a main cast member of a long-running network television series (like the Steven Spielberg movie-turned NBC smash-hit "ER"). Still, while the gig pays remarkably well, the hours can be brutally long when a 20-plus episode season is in production. This means you're away from your loved ones for extended periods of time, which can be incredibly rough, especially if you have young children. You're missing important moments of their childhood, and, obviously, you can never get those back. This can take quite the toll.
I'm not suggesting you should grieve for the plight of TV actors, but you might keep this in mind as the seasons begin to pile on. Because when a key cast member departs one of your favorite series, they might be cutting out because no paycheck is worth placing an emotional strain on your personal relationships.

If you were watching network television back in the early 2010s, then it was impossible for you not to have seen some sort of promotion for the NBC series Revolution. (The network even posted the pilot online weeks before it aired on TV.) The whole concept was quite mysterious, and from the very beginning, we didn't know much about this show beyond its post-apocalyptic American setting. The power is out, and it's seemingly never coming back. But there was more to this show than that. Between being Eric Kripke’s first post-Supernatural series, the rest of the behind-the-scenes creatives involved (including Jon Favreauand J.J. Abrams), and the strong cast that featured future Fire Countrystar Billy Burke, Tracy Spiridakos, Giancarlo Esposito, and Elizabeth Mitchell, there was a lot going for this sci-fi production in the very beginning. It's too bad it all ended so soon.

One of the most dehumanizing features — which is certainly a built-in component and not a bug — of the U.S. immigration system as it pertains to asylum seekers is that the applicant bears the burden of proving they have suffered enough or that they risk death in their home country in order to be granted permission to stay. The more horrifying the survived experiences, the better the chances for a positive outcome. But how does one precisely quantify someone’s distress or the likelihood that their safety will be threatened? These stipulations exist more to keep people from the developing world out than to offer them protection.
The Christian drama “Between Borders” uses a contentious asylum trial as a framing device to tackle the real-life case of the Petrosyan family, an ethnic Armenian couple and their two daughters, for whom Azerbaijan was the only home they’d ever known. Although...

Few people had a better end to 2024 than Frank Grillo, who led Creature Commandos, the debut Dcu series that earned universal acclaim and has already been greenlit for Season 2. Grillo is also famous for starring as Brock Rumlow in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, but two years before his MCU debut he featured in a major crime thriller that’s making a streaming run nine years later. Grillo stars alongside Elizabeth Mitchell and Mykelti Williamson in The Purge: Election Year, the 2016 horror thriller that was recently added to Max and has clawed to the #10 spot in the platform’s most popular movies chart. The Purge: Election Year earned scores of 55% from critics and 48% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, and the film grossed $118 million against a $10 million budget.

There’s no denying that Donald Trump's presidential inauguration on Jan. 20 brought with it a lot of emotions. In these times of uncertainty, however, movie lovers are doing what they do best, and that's look to films for comfort. Frank Grillo's 2016 horror movie about a dystopian USA has pushed onto streaming charts, almost nine years after it was originally released in theaters. Grillo is best known for his action movies, from the grounded events of movies like End of Watch, to his role in the cast of Creature Commandos as Rick Flag Sr., part of the wider DC Universe. The actor is also no stranger to superhero franchises beyond the Dcu, having also portrayed Crossbones in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. These roles, however, extend further than just his recognizable action portrayals.
Grillo's multifaceted roles in action films and the superhero genre have also made their way to live-action TV, with him taking on the role of Bill Bevilaqua on the cast of Tulsa King season 2, starring opposite Sylvester Stallone. Once Upon a Time adapted many Disney fairy tales, from princesses to villains and everything in between, always with a fun twist on the characters fans thought they knew. After three seasons of drawing from classics, Once Upon a Time turned to Disney's most recent hit movie and brought Frozen's Elsa and Anna into the show. Elsa initially seems to be the antagonist to the Once Upon a Time's Charming family, but the show involves another character, their Aunt Ingrid (Elizabeth Mitchell), who also has ice-based powers, to be the real villain of season 4A.
By season 4, Once Upon a Time had adapted many Disney princesses, yet the show's live-action Elsa (Georgina Haig) and Anna (Elizabeth Lail) are exactly like their movie origins. However, while Frozen was a phenomenon as a film, translating it into Once Upon a Time was not as successful. Elsa and Anna's inclusion felt awkward to fans of the show,...

Rather than being driven by the plot alone, the character-driven storylines left every potential Protector stumbling across different challenges. With such a massive cast, it was always inevitable that relationships would be among those challenges. The ensemble was trapped on an island and left with nothing but each other's company. Sometimes it's difficult to get into movies that tap into real-life circumstances, because real life can be so much stranger than fiction. This year we went through one of the most contentious elections in history with Donald Trump proving victorious over Vice President Kamala Harris to become President of the United States once again. It was all very divisive and sparked a lot of controversy, so what better way to escape that with 2016's The Purge: Election Year? The 2016 horror film, much like the entire franchise, does touch on current events in a pretty unique way, with the third installment probably doing it the most. This makes it the perfect time to dive in again, and thankfully, streaming will make it that much easier to do so!

Quick Links 'The Santa Clause' Trilogy and Weak Third Movie 'The Santa Clause' TV Series Fixed the Ending
30 years after its premiere, The Santa Clause remains a holiday classic. We all know the story. After accidentally killing Santa Claus, Tim Allen's Scott Calvin has to take his place. Pretty bold start to a kid's movie when you think about it. The original film received two sequels, The Santa Clause 2 and The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause. While the first outing earned mainly positive reviews, critical and audience reception dipped as the franchise went on.
The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause was regarded by many as the weakest of the three. Since no fourth film was ever commissioned, it looked like that was where Santa would hang up his jacket. But a decade-and-a-half later, we revisited the world with The Santa Clauses TV series.

One of the most heartbreaking deaths on Lost was the death of Dr. Juliet Burke (Elizabeth Mitchell). Juliet was introduced in the third season of the show as one of The Others, working against the plane survivors. As the series progressed, Juliet formed some close bonds with some of the survivors and even a relationship with Jack and then Sawyer. This made her more popular with audiences, soon becoming a fan-favorite character. Unfortunately, the character met her demise in the first episode of the shows sixth and final season, paving the way for the conclusion of the whole series.
There is a lot of mystery surrounding Juliets death in Lost. The character was pulled down a mine shaft by an electromagnetic field, where a hydrogen bomb was threatening the lives of everyone on the island. Juliet used all of her strength to detonate the bomb to save all of her friends,...

As such, it seems that this new decade has spawned a new generation of hard-hitting procedural dramas.

Drew Goddard's experience in the entertainment industry is as vast as it is celebrated. Being connected with elevated classics, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel will do that. The television writer got his start in the writer's room and has gone on to even greater heights. The scribe for Ridley Scott's humorous and emotional sci-fi film, The Martian, Goddard was also the mastermind behind one of Netflix's grittiest Marvel ventures. He became Daredevil's showrunner, which lasted three seasons and is still a metric to which many Marvel shows are held.
Goddard's entertainment pedigree is so wide-ranging that he even had the chance to pen a few episodes of one of the biggest shows of the '00s. Premiering in 2004, Lost had the world in the grips of its mysterious and often confounding hands. The series was the largest ensemble drama of the time, telling a character-driven story on a mysterious island.

The 2000s is a great era for TV shows, and there are several titles from the era that are ready to be revived. Some of the best TV shows of all time are from the 00s, ranging from hard-hitting to dramas to hilarious sitcoms and beyond. Unfortunately, many are the victims of being cut too short. Others, however, are still extremely popular nowadays and still receive demands from audiences to return to the screen.
Multiple shows are essential to understanding the 2000s, and these TV series encapsulate the time beautifully. However, this doesnt mean that these shows wouldnt work now, and many of them have a timeless appeal to generations of viewers. Some of the most nostalgic 2000s TV shows are still widely watched today, but some deserve a revival more than others.

Outer Banks returns for another exciting adventure that pits the Pogues against the Kooks and many more. Season 3 concluded the first chapter of the Netflix series. When it comes to Outer Banks, there are some things you can always count on: high-speed chases, swoon-worthy romance, and epic action.
Thanks to some truly jaw-dropping surprises and the team’s biggest treasure hunt yet, Season 3 takes all of that to the next level. And by next level, we’re talking Barbados, South America, and even (gasp) a party full of Kooks.
But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. If you need a quick reminder on where things left off at the end of Season 2, our perpetual treasure-hunting friends the Pogues, led by John B (Chase Stokes), were set adrift in the ocean on a small boat after failing to steal the Cross of Santo Domingo back from evil Rafe (Drew Starkey) and Ward (Charles Esten). Meanwhile, in Barbados, Carla Limbrey (Elizabeth Mitchell) met with John B’s not-actually-dead dad, Big John (Charles Halford), and promised to help...

20 years ago, “Lost” premiered on ABC and made TV history.
The series premiere was already the most expensive TV pilot ever made, but from the moment Jack (Matthew Fox) opened his eye in the pilot created by Damon Lindelof, J.J. Abrams, and Jeffrey Lieber, nothing would ever be the same. Over the course of six seasons and 121 episodes, “Lost” earned Emmys and accolades, amassed a hugely dedicated and intrepid fanbase, and changed the television landscape.
A lot has changed in the two decades since that series premiere. For some, the show’s legacy was tarnished by later seasons and particularly the Season 6 finale (agree to disagree). More troublingly, writers and actors from the “Lost” heyday have spoken out about what they found to be a sexist, racist, and generally toxic work environment. Actor Harold Perrineau was actually speaking honestly about his experiences back when he was still a series regular,...

The Budapest-based FBI Fly Team awaits incoming Supervisory Special Agent Wesley “Wes” Mitchell (Chicago P.D.’s Jesse Lee Soffer) a few months after the sudden departure of their former chief Scott Forrester (Luke Kleintank). Art followed reality when the actor said he was leaving FBI: International to spend more time with his family, and his character was written out after rescuing and reuniting with his mother Angela Cassidy (Elizabeth Mitchell), whom Forrester had been told was a spy for Russia but in reality was a deep undercover double agent. After a number of misdirects, complications, and help from the Fly Team, he eventually found his mom and they managed to flee together to Alaska without informing the higher ups. Only Forrester’s team knew where they were, and they destroyed everything—with the complicity of National Security Agency liaison Brian Lange (Colin Donnell)—that could track the mother and son to their hiding spot.

TV ensemble casts create dynamic power dynamics and evolving relationships, elevating the storytelling. Shows like Lost and The Office set the bar for incredible ensemble casts that define TV greatness. A strong ensemble cast, like the one in Succession, can win awards and captivate audiences with their chemistry.
TV shows that feature ensemble casts often end up benefiting from it thanks to the incredible opportunities for different power dynamics and evolving relationships. Whether this is a result of the great on-screen chemistry between the actors, their individual talents, or the compelling storyline, there is no doubt that some of the greatest TV shows ever have incredible ensemble casts.
Some TV shows stand a cut above the rest thanks to their incredibly compelling casts, though. From a crime family, a deserted group of survivors, or just an office for a paper company, these TV ensemble casts have cemented themselves in history...

Lost started as a roaring critical success, but slowly began polarizing its viewers with its lingering mysteries and confusing story mechanics. While it's understandable for the audience to have grown divided due to Lost's seemingly random swerve from a character-driven drama to a time-traveling sci-fi adventure, it becomes a lot easier a pill to swallow when experienced more than once. Revisiting Lost is an endlessly satisfying experience for fans, and can do a lot to bring the lapsed fan back into the fold.
While the answers Lost delivered didn't satisfy everybody, they were present. Rewatching the series can help viewers piece together the clues they may have missed. Other than helping detractors back on board with the show, the remaining fans can also benefit from revisiting one of the most iconic dramas in television history. The East Texas town of Possum Trot received national notice in 2008 when ABC News, followed by “Oprah” and a slew of television shows that knew a heart-warmer when they saw it, sang the deserved praises of Rev. Lost is a popular American television series that aired on ABC from 2004 to 2010. The show follows the lives of plane crash survivors on a mysterious island, and it features a large ensemble cast of characters. The series featured many actors who are still working in TV and film. Josh Holloway, Evangeline Lily, and Dominic Monaghan have all been in some of the biggest movie franchises ever made.
Part of what made Lost an enduring popular cultural phenomenon was its talented cast of actors, many of whom went on to appear in a variety of other television series and films. As an ensemble series that aired for six seasons, Lost provided nearly every prominent character with multiple episodes that explored their lives before and after Oceanic Flight 815 crashed on the island. Quick Links The Controversial Ending Why We Have to Go Back
After six seasons of science-fiction greatness, Lost (20042010) came to a controversial close with a finale that's aptly titled "The End." Raking in more than 13.5 million viewers, it was the most-watched episode of the show's climactic season. Reception was mixed, however safe to say, some fans disagreed with the route its showrunners took. But in hindsight, perhaps the final episode received too much hate when it aired in May 2010.
Audiences had long been speculating about the meaning of Lost in general, wondering where these characters were truly stranded, if not on a deserted island. Hell was often considered the island's true location, as if the passengers of Oceanic Flight 815 all died when the plane went down in the Pacific Ocean's mysterious depths. Fans were less than excited about this cop-out of a plot point, and in some respects, they still...

TV shows like Lost and Dark were often too clever for their own good, losing viewers with complex narratives and mysterious storylines. Community and Futurama's cleverness made them niche favorites but limited mainstream appeal, excelling in meta-humor and unique concepts. The Wire and The Leftovers' intelligence led to critical acclaim but struggled to find a broad audience, delving deep into realism and psychological themes.
Its always great when a TV show can grab viewers' attention while remaining incredibly clever, but there were some occasions when series' pushed things too far and were just too smart for their own good. With complex narratives, confusing overlapping storylines, and surreal elements that viewers found alienating, plenty of television series over the years lost audience members because they were just too clever. While this was not necessarily bad, and not every series needed a broad appeal, it occasionally meant that great shows were canceled before their time.

In “Tuxhorn,” the episode opens chaotically as Brian Lange (Colin Donnell) discovers that Forrester went to Norway to rescue his mom who is believed to have been captured. Wanting to help, Lange and the Fly Team risk their lives and reputations and...

The serial killer thriller The Huntsman is set to begin filming in Oklahoma on May 22nd, and with that date just a few weeks away we’ve received a press release that reveals some casting information: Shawn Ashmore of Adam Green’s Frozen and the X-Men franchise is set to star in The Huntsman alongside Garret Dillahunt (Fear the Walking Dead), Elizabeth Mitchell (The Purge: Election Year), and Jessy Schram (Unstoppable). Teri Polo has booked a mystery role over on CBS’ FBI: International — though we have a fun theory on who she could be playing.
Polo of course has starred on TV’s The Fosters and its offshoot Good Trouble, as well as Fox’s one-and-done The Big Leap. And as far as broadcast-tv procedurals go, she had a mini arc on CBS’ own NCIS that spanned the Season 19 finale and Season 20 premiere, playing Special Agent Alden Parker’s ex-wife, Vivan.

When a film is looking to maximize its box office, there are numerous factors to consider. Some films rely on star power to draw audiences. Others attach themselves to recognizable properties, hoping familiar titles and characters will bring audiences back. Then there's the film's MPA (Motion Picture Association) rating. In 2018, the organization formerly known as the Motion Picture Association of America released a report noting that over half of all films were rated R, the most-adult, most-restrictive rating. Accordingly, in 2022, Axios reported that R-rated films were drawing a smaller portion of box office revenue than ever.
"If the greatest chance of box office success is having a PG-13 rating, or not having an R-rating, then that's where the industry really had to go," media analyst Paul Dergarabedian told the outlet. Still, he noted, there is often an audience for edgier fare, especially edgy genre fare. "Some of the best movies...
