Pandorum (2009) – Wtf Happened to This Horror Movie?
Image
2009 is not exactly a year that horror fans remember fondly. What came out that year? Off the top of the head, not much comes up. A quick search gives us The Unborn, Underworld: Rise of the Lycans, and Drag Me to Hell. Depending on who you ask, these range from ok movies to Drag Me to Hell, but not exactly memorable overall. Something happened at the end of the 2000s and horror didn’t give us much to work with for some reason. If we dig, we get better titles like The Collector, Laid to Rest, and Paranormal Activity, but their box office ranged from amazing in the case of Paranormal Activity to almost nonexistent for the others, so it was completely hit or miss, like studios didn’t know what to push and what to keep for the home video market. Another movie that had a lot of potential...

Infinity Chamber: exploring an underrated indie sci-fi gem
Ryan Lambie Jan 16, 2018

It’s claustrophic and keeps you guessing from beginning to end. We take a look at the superb indie sci-fi flick, Infinity Chamber...

When astronaut Dave Bowman engaged in his battle of wits with the malfunctioning Hal-9000 in Stanley Kubrick’s seminal 2001: A Space Odyssey, the whole notion of humans interacting with computers on a mundane, conversational level was still in the realm of science fiction. Fifty years on from 2001’s release, and the film’s depiction of regular flights into space now looks more than a little far off the mark; its notion of an intimate relationship between humans and machines, on the other hand, still seems accurate.

Travis Milloy's Infinity Chamber is on Netflix Now (Canada)!

The film stars Christopher Soren Kelly and Cassandra Clark. Infinity Chamber is set in a sci-fi world, in which a man is trapped in an automated prison. He must outsmart the artificial intelligence if he wants to be free, again. Positively reviewed here: Infinity Chamber Review (as Somnio), a look at the film's Netflix debut is available now. Director Travis Milloy (Pandorum, 2009) has talked about Infinity Chamber, in a number of interviews. He says of the film's story: "It’s the story of one man thrown into an automated prison to be interrogated and kept alive by machines. Suspecting the world may have come to an end, he searches for escape back to a world that may already be gone (ThatMomentIn)." A sci-fi thriller, Infinity Chamber offers a few surprises,...

This year, the film will have theatrical showings in Los Angeles, this September. As well, XLRator Media is getting set to show the film through Video-on-demand, in September, also. The All Seeing Eye Knows Everything in Travis Milloy's Infinity Chamber: Official Artwork
Tagline: "Justice is Automated. Your Fate is Secure." Travis Milloy's (Pandorum, 2009) Somnio has been renamed to Infinity Chamber. This title has been scheduled, by distributor XLRator Media, for a September release. The film is character focused. And, Infinity Chamber involves themes of surveillance and government intrusion. A review for this title was posted here: An Infinity Chamber Review on 28Dla (as Somnio). Now, the film's official release artwork is hosted here. The graphic shows central character Frank, played by Christopher Soren Kelly. He is thought to be a rebel and imprisoned in an underground facility. His only interaction is with the camera, shown in the film poster and another off-screen character. Reality is altered as Frank's memory is probed for sedition. The setting is austere, much like the movie poster. Finally, this poster captures the imprisoning nature of Infinity Chamber. Infinity Chamber is a blend of horror and sci-fi.

Pandorum Writer's Infinity Chamber Goes to XLrator
Infinity Chamber (formerly "Somnio", a film You helped fund) is the feature directorial debut from Travis Milloy, writer of Pandorum , who has turned in a mind-bending thriller that will have you guessing until the end (yes, I had the chance to screen the film last year and loved it).

XLrator media have picked the film up for distribution and will bring it to U.S. cinemas on September 15, 2017 and available on iTunes and VOD on September 26, 2017.

For better or worse they changed the name of the film to Infinity Chamber, which might seem a bit sci-fi generic but it does reflect the plot and themes of the film I'd say.

Living in a Dream with Travis Milloy's Somnio: A Film Review
*an online screener of this film was provided by producer Laurie Sheldon. Director/writer: Travis Milloy. Cast: Christopher Soren Kelly and Cassandra Clark. The Latin word Somnio can be defined as looking into a dream. And, much of Travis Milloy's (Pandorum) first feature, Somnio, is somewhat like that of a daydream, but more of a nightmare. One protagonist is forced to relive a sequence of events, over and over again. Smallish in nature, this film is also a bit of mystery. Is the central character, Frank (Christopher Soren Kelly), guilty of governmental transgressions? Or, has he been wrongly imprisoned? Milloy's script will keep you guessing until the end as themes of surveillance and the over-reliance on tech' weave their way into the narrative. Somnio is a decent indie entry into the science fiction and mystery genres. There are a number of differences between indie titles and major productions. Major...

Bunker Blueprint: Pandorum Creator's Somnio Looks Worthy of Support
Travis Milloy, the writer of the amazing sci-fi/horror film Pandorum, is at the tail end of production on an independent thriller called Somnio and has taken to Kickstarter to make the final push.

The film sounds extremely intriguing and looks great on the production side. Milloy has a ton of experience as a writer, so I can only imagine the story is a lean and tight one. Take a gander at the synopsis and watch the video and if you like what you see, hey, toss it some love dollars.

Nicolas Cage Reunites With Mike Figgis For Exit 147
Nicolas Cage at an event for Drive Angry (2011)
The last time Nicolas Cage and director Mike Figgis worked together, the result was Leaving Las Vegas, which scored four Oscar nominations and saw the actor go home with a Best Actor gong. So you can see why he might be eager to reunite with the director, signing on to star in an ensemble film called Exit 147.Travis Milloy wrote the script, which weaves together different narratives, including a police officer with a warped sense of justice (Cage), a women escaping her abusive partner and said man, whom Cage ends up arresting. They all become embroiled in a series of sadistic mind games.“This is the kind of story that turns up once in a blue moon," Figgis tells Variety. "It is the perfect vehicle for Nicolas, and I am excited to be back in business with this great actor. I love this combination of dark and scary balanced with edgy humour.

Nicolas Cage is set to re-team with his "Leaving Las Vegas”" director Mike Figgis on thriller "Exit 147" at Umedia. Shooting begins in January.

Travis Milloy ("Pandorum") penned the script in which Cage will star as a cop with a warped sense of justice. He arrests an abusive partner of a woman and all three become embroiled in a series of sadistic mind games.

Cage has also joined the cast of Paul Schrader's contemporary crime thriller "Dog Eat Dog" at Arclight Films. Schrader and Matt Wilder penned the script while Mark Earl Burman and David Hillary will produce.

An adaptation of Eddie Bunker's award-winning book, the story follows a trio of Los Angeles based ex-cons hired for a kidnapping. When the botched abduction goes awry, the cons find themselves on the run.

Nicolas Cage Reteams With 'Leaving Las Vegas' Director Mike Figgis For 'Exit 147'
It's hard to remember a time when Nicolas Cage was a viable, award contending actor, and not just a guy who appeared in movies that serve as a career punchline. But indeed, Cage does have an Oscar on his shelf, and it's thanks to Mike Figgis, who directed him in "Leaving Las Vegas." Now the pair are reuniting for a new movie, and one that was previously attached to Taylor Kitsch and Julian Jarrold (“Great Expectations,” “Brideshead Revisited”). Penned by Travis Milloy ("Pandorum"), "Exit 147" will find Cage playing a cop who gets involved in some mind games with a woman escaping the abusive husband he has arrested. Figgis says this movie will have "edgy humour" and that it's an ensemble piece with a handful of narrative threads. Nicolas Cage and Mike Figgis Reunite for First Time Since 'Leaving Las Vegas'
Mike Figgis has tapped Nicolas Cage to star in his thriller "Exit 147," THR reports. Written by Travis Milloy ("Pandorum"), the darkly humorous film follows Cage as a corrupt policeman who arrests a woman's abusive partner, only to become entangled in a series of sick mind games. The film will weave various story strands with multiple characters. "This is the kind of story that turns up once in a blue moon," Higgis told THR of this "dream project for a small ensemble." Figgis hasn't had a film hit quite as hard since his "Leaving Las Vegas," a deeply depressing story of a failed screenwriter (Cage, unhinged and sympathetic, won the Oscar that year) who meets a heart-of-gold prostitute (Elisabeth Shue, also nominated that year) on his way to rock bottom. Cage will soon be seen in Oliver Stone's Edward Snowden biopic opposite Joseph Gordon-Levitt. “Exit 147″ is produced by Lenny Beckerman of Uber Content,...

‘Pandorum’ an imaginative cult classic in the making
Pandorum

Directed by Christian Alvart

Written by Travis Milloy

Us, 2009

Three significant events have occurred in 2013 that lend credence to the claim sci-fi is on its death bed as far as mainstream moviemaking goes. Star Trek Into Darkness continued to drive its franchise further and further away from its ideological roots in pursuit of money spinning breakneck action with a loose plot better suited to the Mission: Impossible series; the announcement that Star Wars will be revamped under the tutelage of the very same J.J. Abrams shows that rather than create new iconic franchises the executives would rather bleed dry the old ones; and Avatar will be graced by three sequels, suggesting a lack of faith in fresh ideas on the part of James ‘Mr. Innovation’ Cameron.

Taylor Kitsch Takes 'Exit 147'
Poor Taylor Kitsch. Though he turned heads in the critically acclaimed small screen adaptation of “Friday Night Lights,” his forays into the big screen haven’t been met with similar praise. Last year was Kitsch’s big test as leading man, with starring roles in “John Carter,” “Battleship” and “Savages,” and it didn't turn out so well. Box office receipts and critical pans be damned however, because the former football star with the bedroom eyes has lined up another leading role. Bloody Disgusting is reporting that Kitsch has will star in the Julian Jarrold-helmed horror-thriller “Exit 147.” Written by “Pandorum” screenwriter Travis Milloy, the film centers on “a man driving across the desert who is arrested by a small town sheriff (Kitsch) and held captive as part of his own sadistic game.” First Landry (Jesse Plemmons) -- Spoiler -- shoots a kid on “Breaking Bad” and...

Taylor Kitsch to Join Horror Thriller Exit 147
Taylor Kitsch had a really bad year, with films like John Carter, Battleship and Savages, all of which bombed at the box office. There was enough negativity surrounding the actor to kill a career. I think he's a solid actor, and I also thing he's a good leading man. He just got involved with the wrong projects.

Bloody-Disgusting has learned that Kitsch is attached to star in a new horror thriller called Exit 147, which is being directed by Julian Jarrold, from a screenplay by Travis Milloy (Pandorum). The story is about "a man driving across the desert at night who is arrested by a small town sheriff (Kitsch) and held captive as part of his own sadistic game."

It sounds like it could be an interesting film, but I don't think it's a movie that will help Kitsch's acting career. After his bad year of movies, it might be the...

Taylor Kitsch signs up for Exit 147
News Glen Chapman 22 Feb 2013 - 06:50

After a run of box office disappointments Kitsch signs up for serial killer thriller Exit 147

I've got a lot of time for Taylor Kitsch, in large part due to my love of Friday Night Lights and his excellent performance as Tim Riggins. So it's something of a disappointment that his cinematic endeavours have been less than successful thus far. That said, I maintain that John Carter received an unnecessary kicking and was one of the few films of late that captured the feeling of the movies that I loved as a kid. And, to be fair to Taylor Kitsch, he's also been solid in the vast majority of other roles I've seen him in. I would even hesitate to say he's made bad choices given that it's unlikely many young actors wouldn't want to do an X-Men movie, and that Battleship had him working...

Taylor Kitsch Eyes Serial Killer Thriller Exit 147; Askel Hennie Joins Dwayne Johnson in Hercules
We’ve got a couple of casting stories to share this morning. First up, Taylor Kitsch may soon be tackling a serial killer film. Though the talented Friday Night Lights actor didn’t have the best 2012 when it came to box office success, Kitsch seems to be taking everything in stride. The folks over at Bloody Disgusting report that the actor is attached to star in the thriller Exit 147, which centers on a small town sheriff who arrests a man driving across the desert at night and holds him captive as part of a sadistic game. Kitsch would play the sheriff, and Julian Jarrold (Becoming Jane, The Girl) is attached to direct from a script by Travis Milloy (Pandorum). We haven’t heard any official confirmation regarding Kitsch’s casting Exit 147 just yet, so it’s one to keep an eye on the in the near future with regards to the actor’s upcoming schedule.

Taylor Kitsch To Star In Serial Killer Thriller ‘Exit 147′
2012 was an awful year for Friday Night Lights star Taylor Kitsch. It was bomb after bomb after bomb. John Carter, Battleship and Savages all failed to impress. But the actor is not giving up.

Bloody Disgusting has the exclusive word that Kitsch will lead Julian Jarrold’s Exit 147, a horror-thriller about a man driving across the desert at night who is arrested by a small town sheriff and held captive as part of his own sadistic game. Kitsch will play the sheriff.

The script is being written by Travis Milloy (Pandorum). Jarrold previously directed Red Riding 1974, a fantastic English TV movie about a young reporter (Andrew Garfield) trying to find information on a series of missing girls.

Exit 147 seems like something right up Jarrold’s alley. Hopefully this new project can work to Kitsch’s advantage.

Mandalay Gets Off on Exit 147
Driving cross-country can be both pretty terrifying and pretty entertaining all at the same time. Thankfully it's also the perfect setup for young kids to get themselves caught in a... what's the term people throw around? Oh yeah! "A Nightmare Ride to Hell!™"

According to Deadline, Mandalay Vision has set Julian Jarrold (Red Riding Trilogy 1974) to helm Exit 147, an indie thriller scripted by Travis Milloy. Cathy Schulman and Matthew Rhodes are producing for Mandalay Vision with Lenny Beckerman.

‘Red Riding 1974′ & ‘Becoming Jane’ Director Julian Jarrold Takes ‘Exit 147’ for Mandalay
According to Deadline, British director Julian Jarrold has just been hired by Mandalay Vision to helm the upcoming indie thriller Exit 147. Scripted by Travis Milloy, Cathy Schulman and Matthew Rhodes have signed on to produce for Mandalay alongside Lenny Beckerman.

Exit 147 follows a young father, who is driving across country to see his daughter. He “is stopped by a sheriff at Exit 147, and it turns into a psychological game of cat and mouse with deadly consequences.” Unfortunately, I’m getting some flashbacks to 2001 and the Paul Walker-led Joy Ride, but that’s just because of the whole “psychological game of cat and mouse” element I’m guessing; so let’s hope Exit 147 takes a different *ahem* route.

For those unfamiliar with Jarrold‘s filmography, he directed the 2007 Jane Austen biography Becoming Jane, which starred Anne Hathaway, as well as Red Riding 1974 and one of the Kinky Boots films. It...

Norman Reedus - Auditions, Big City Life and Red Canyon : An Interview
Norman Reedus admits that he is best known, to date, for his role in Boondock Saints and the sequel. What fans might not know about Reedus is that he is an accomplished artist, sculptor and photographer. Reedus was injured in a brutal car accident in 2005, but recovered and later starred in the films Pandorum and Red Canyon. This actor is not afraid of challenges or challenging material, as he plays Mac, a man who bears family secrets in Red Canyon. Have a read of this interview taken by myself with Reedus and find out about this actor's many other pursuits, like pissing off PETA.

(Michael Ross Allen) Where are you coming from right now, New York?

(Norman Reedus) I am in New York, just waiting for a snowstorm. I am fixing a salad for my son, Mingus. I am putting some dishes away, too.

(Mra) The last film I saw you in was Red Canyon.

DVD Releases 1/19/10
The Invention of Lying: "Opening up with simple credits (done in Woody Allen's favorite typeface), upon which Gervais' character actually comments, the film shifts to the world where no one lies. The film is narrated briefly at the beginning and end by Mark Bellison (Gervais), a struggling screenwriter at Lecture Films, a studio that makes movies in which the best readers of the day recite historical anecdotes on screen for the audience. In the opening scenes, Mark's on a date with Anna (Jennifer Garner), who makes it clear they won't be sleeping together based on Mark's income and appearance. Again, it's a cute idea, but the film finds itself stuck in the same epistemic nightmare as Carrey's Liar Liar because some of the statements are simply unprompted opinion. Mark is also dealing with work troubles, and he's fired for not coming up with any good stories from his assigned historical era,...

Blu-Ray Review: ‘Pandorum’ Puts Space Saga on Autopilot
Chicago – Christian Alvart’s “Pandorum” is the kind of efficient time-waster that sucks you in, spits you out, and leaves you two hours older. There’s nothing that can be said in its favor, apart from the fact that its not offensively awful (like the producers’ “Resident Evil” franchise). But it is thoroughly mediocre, and for some viewers, mediocrity is offensive enough.

It’s not surprising that the film fizzled at the box office, since its marketing campaign was among the most repellant in recent memory. Its theatrical teasers consisted of characters ripping their skin off to reveal another layer beneath. The teaser was usually followed by a member of the audience uttering, “Now who the [expletive] would want to see that [expletive]?” I couldn’t help shaking my head in agreement.

Blu-Ray Rating: 2.0/5.0

The actual film is more watchable than one would expect. A plot synopsis is irrelevant, since the entire...

Tis the Season to be Thankful: A Contest
Here at 28Dla.com, I wanted to say thank-you to all the fans, readers, and supporters of independent horror filmmaking. Christmas is a time to be thankful for those we love and to spread the love let us celebrate with a horror contest. The contest has two questions, and one task. Some of the questions relate to the personalities who have graced the pages here at 28Dla.com and some have to do with horror filmmaking in general. First prize is your choice of the Feast III Unleashed on DVD from 2009, or an older title The Breed (2005) also on DVD. The legalese is as follows "any damage to the DVDs included in this contest that occurs in travel or by the manufacturer is not the responsibility of this site or those associated with this site." So here are the questions:

1) Travis Milloy was interviewed on this site September 3 about his film Pandorum.

Pandorum Review + Exclusive Unseen Concept Art
Year: 2009

Directors: Christian Alvart

Writers: Travis Milloy

IMDb: link

Trailer: link

Review by: agentorange

Rating: 8 out of 10

[Editor's note: We usually don't post reviews this long after a film's domestic release but since Pandorum is being criminally underrated by mainstream critics and is getting a staggered release across the rest of the world, we're making an exception]

Pandorum is a lean, mean terror machine of a movie that goes right for the jugular and never lets up for a single minute. It's a tense, claustrophobic nightmare vision wrapped in a scifi disguise that's sometimes illogical but always thrilling. More importantly though, it's the perfect escape from this never-ending cycle of teen slashers, 80s retreads and zombie / vampire overload (yes, I chose to see this over Zombieland).

If Pandorum was called "Avp: Pandorum," or "Resident Evil: Pandorum," critics would be falling all over themselves to praise Alvart for his economy of style and storytelling, declaring the film an instant win and return to form for the franchises. But since there isn't an established brand attached to the it, most critics seem to be at a loss, quick to damn it...

Pandorum: A Movie Review
Director: Christian Alvert.

Writer: Travis Milloy.

Pandorum from director Christian Alvert and writer Travis Milloy is a 2009 sci-fi thriller that takes place in the heart of the unknown and the picture is a solid action and character study both rolled in one. The actor's performances are on key in intensity and first hour of film does not take the edge off as mysterious creatures dart in and out of scenes. A suitable film for those with an ache for a heartattack, or those interested in a well written story Pandorum will satisfy those fans looking for something exciting!

Pandorum begins with a back story of how the earth becomes overpopulated, experiences famine, and water shortages, then the film moves ahead to focus on the characters Bower (Ben Foster), and Payton (Dennis Quaid) Both Bower and Payton look to solve a power supply problem on a ship that is the last hope for mankind.

Movie Review: Pandorum
Starring: Dennis Quaid, Ben Foster.

Director: Christian Alvart

Release Date: September 25, 2009

Running Time: 108 min

MPAA Rating: R

Pandorum is another one of those sci-fi movies that attempts to explore the psychological impact of participating in something that so beyond this world. Unlike Danny Boyle’s Sunshine, or Tarkovsky’s Solaris, where the focus turns to the spiritual and metaphysical, Pandorum is just an attempt at a thrill ride that just happens to take place deep in space.

This film comes to us from German director Christian Alvart. Alvart’s most recent production before this is the German film Antibodies that was actually a decent psychological thriller. American studios liked it so much, they picked up the rights and hired Alvart to make a bastardized Us version (look for it in 2011).

Pandorum takes place on a very quiet, very dark spaceship a few hundred years in the future.

Movie Review: “Pandorum”
Seen on: September 27, 2009

The players: Director: Christian Alvart, Writer: Travis Milloy, Cast: Dennis Quaid, Ben Foster, Cam Gigandet, Norman Reedus, Cung Le

Facts of interest: Christian Alvart also directed "Case 39."

The plot: Two members of a spacecraft crew wake up on board and have no clue who they are and what's going on...

Our thoughts: Walk into “Pandorum” with low expectations, and you may be pleasantly surprised. No, Christian Alvart’s sci-fi horror flick is by no means a masterpiece, but it boasts a series of atmospheric scenes and scary moments I found quite enjoyable to watch. In other words, “Pandorum” is not a complete disaster.

Pandorum (Mike's Film Review)
Ever since Alien was pitched as “a haunted house movie in space” 30 years ago, it seems like there have been more of those damned houses out amongst the stars than there have been on Earth. Genre fans (particularly those who have frequented the Sci Fi/Syfy channel) have long gotten used to the sight of interstellar travelers creeping/running down futuristic corridors in search of/away from some cosmic threat or other. Pandorum, produced by the team behind one of the bigger/gorier examples of the subgenre, Event Horizon, is a fairly successful attempt to do something a little different with the formula.

The opening scenes get the movie off to an effectively claustrophobic/mysterious start, as a young man suddenly awakens in a cryogenic sleep pod somewhere within the bowels of an expansive spacecraft (which we’re told at the start is the Elysium, on a colonization run to...
