‘The Righteous Gemstones’ To End With Season 4 On HBO
Image
The Righteous Gemstones will soon take its final bow. That’s right, the HBO comedy is coming to an end with Season 4.

Creator Danny McBride confirmed the news in an interview with GQ on Thursday morning, joking with the outlet: “God told me it was time. That we had achieved what we needed to do.”

In all seriousness, McBride said the move to end the series felt “natural,” given that his idea for Season 4 “was a story that was bringing all these themes and these ideas and these characters to a conclusion, to something that felt like completion.”

The Righteous Gemstones tells the story of a world-famous televangelist family with a long tradition of deviance, greed, and charitable work. Despite constant bickering, Gemstone family ties run deep, and this season the family’s codependence is tested as they attempt to move forward without letting go of their storied past.

Megan Mullally Confirmed for ‘Righteous Gemstones’ Season Four, Nick Offerman Tbd
Image
TV comedy legend Megan Mullally is officially joining the cast of The Righteous Gemstones Season Four, and we can’t wait to see what kind of weirdo her husband plays in one glorious cameo.

If you had to make a list of all the incredible comedic actors who belong on a show like HBO’s exhilarating comedy-drama about a televangelist dynasty at the close of The Righteous Gemstone's critically acclaimed third season, Mullally would have to be near the top of the list with Nick Offerman dutifully seated directly underneath her, as is his proclivity. TV’s funniest power couple tends to do a lot of their work together — Mullally followed Offerman to Parks and Recreation where she played his hell-raising ex-wife Tammy II, and Offerman has long offered his services to Mullally-starred shows ever since he played Nick the Plumber on the original Will & Grace.

Now, Mullally has...

Vampires, Lycans & Love: An Appreciative Look Back at the Underworld Films
While many may scoff when I say this, let me just go ahead and admit right here that I unabashedly love the Underworld movies, a series I once referred to as the “Lord of the Rings of Werewolf Movies.” The first Underworld came along right at the perfect time for me. I was still super into horror action cinema at the time (coming off films like Blade and The Matrix, whose influences were being felt industry-wide), and I just couldn’t think of anything cooler than watching werewolves and vampires kicking each other’s respective otherworldly asses.

Other than the films’ tendencies to sometimes take themselves just a little too seriously, I've always felt like the Underworld movies have unjustly received a bad wrap within the horror community and deserve far more love and respect than they ever get. From their commitment to creating intricate character-driven storytelling that has taken us through (now) five films,...

Underworld 5 Poster Has Selene Ready to Protect Her Bloodline
Kate Beckinsale in Underworld (2003)
Just days after the first trailer for Underworld Blood Wars arrived, we have the first poster as well, featuring Kate Beckinsale as Selene. This iconic character is seen sporting a different look, wearing winter gear as she goes hunting in the woods, presumably for her Lycan enemies. We still have a few months left until the January 6, 2017 release date, so we'll hopefully see much more of this iconic character either on new posters or trailers.

Kate Beckinsale herself debuted this poster on her Twitter page earlier today. This will mark the fifth installment of this beloved franchise, which started in 2003 with the hit Underworld, where Kate Beckinsale played the vampire Selene for the first time. This new installment also brings back Theo James as David from 2012's Underworld: Awakening.

Underworld 5 Delayed Until Early 2017
Kate Beckinsale in Underworld (2003)
Back in April, Screen Gems released the first teaser poster for Underworld Blood Wars, although it didn't featuring returning star Kate Beckinsale or any of the other cast members. Since the release date had already been set for October 14, most assumed that the first trailer was just around the corner, but the studio still hasn't released any footage as of yet. Today we found out why, with Screen Gems officially pushing the movie from October 14, 2016 to January 6, 2017.

Variety reported on the release date shift, but there was no reason given for why the date was pushed into 2017. In its new date on January 6, 2017, Underworld 5 will be going up against The Weinstein Company's Amityville: The Awakening, starring Bella Thorne and Universal Pictures' Mena, starring Tom Cruise. The first weekend of January is typically quite slow at the box office, but that could change next year, with three high-profile projects hitting theaters.

1.) In what must be a dream scenario for director Stephen Gaghan (Syriana), Brad Pitt and Denzel Washington are circling the two lead roles in his next project. The Lionsgate crime thriller Candy Store is said to feature meaty roles for its two main characters. It follows a deep-cover operative who aims to start a new life as a Brooklyn beat cop, only to discover the global organization he was dedicated to fighting is also operating in his new backyard. Jamie Foxx is also said to be interested in one of the roles. [THR] 2.) The cast is starting to roll in for director James Franco's adaptation of William Faulkner's As I Lay Dying. The ensemble includes Danny McBride, Tim Blake Nelson, Logan Marshall-Green (Prometheus), Jim Parrack ("True Blood") and Ahna O'Reilly (The Help). [Review] Underworld: Awakening
I like dark, sci-fi actioners and I’m unafraid to admit it. I’ve seen every Underworld and Resident Evil in the theatre and anticipate continuing that trend until their respective series die. My interest in each comes from different motivations, though. No matter how cheesy and overly-stylish the vampire-versus-lycan war gets, it retains its intriguing mythology as a backbone to the carnage. On the flip side, Alice’s adventures against Umbrella ratchet up the aggression for non-stop fight choreography deflecting from the fact all four films have the same basic plot of surveying a post-apocalyptic zombie-infested wasteland. So, upon standing at the end credits of Kate Beckinsale‘s return as Selene in Underworld: Awakening, I scratched my head wondering when the two franchises swapped ambitions.

The list of credited screenwriters reveals Len Wiseman‘s consistent inclusion throughout the quartet as secondary to the glaring absence of Danny McBride here.

Underworld: Awakening (2012)
Directed by: Måns Mårlind, Björn Stein

Written by: Len Wiseman, John Hlavin, J. Michael Straczynski, Allison Burnett, Danny McBride, Kevin Grevioux

Cast: Kate Beckinsale, Sandrine Holt, Theo James, Michael Ealy, India Eisley

Human beings have finally gotten wise to the Underworld populations of vampires and lycans, and all-out war is being waged. Squads of soldiers with fully automatic assault rifles and silver-laced bullets make this war such a slaughter that it has come to be called "The Cleansing."

Selene (Kate Beckinsale) and her werewolf/vampire-hybrid lover Michael (a CGI cartoon) are caught up in this mess and are knocked unconscious by some special high-tech device and captured. Selene wakes up in a laboratory tank some twelve years later, still dressed in her same black leather outfit (ewww). Using her special vampire skill of "high-speed ass kicking," she breaks out of the guarded lab and hides in the city streets. Soon thereafter,...

A Trip Through The Underworld: Looking Back at the Vampire/Lycan War
Hot vampire chicks, leather-clad with guns blazing. That’s the appeal of Underworld, yes? It certainly doesn’t hurt, that’s for sure. And while the ever-expanding franchise blasts its way into theaters with a fourth entry this weekend, I’d argue there’s more to these things than sexy British chicks wielding all kinds of deadly weapons.

Taking a look back at the three films preceding Underworld Awakening, we find a flawed but ambitious series centering on an enduring war between vampires and werewolves. There have been missteps along the way: leaden direction, questionable writing and horrible performances, but the sheer scope of the franchise continues to impress. Underworld may not be a work of blazing originality, but it’s an ongoing R-rated action fantasy worth a bit more than its detractors might suggest.

I remember the ads for Len Wiseman’s original Underworld back in late 2003, and it...

A Look Back At The Underworld Franchise
The Underworld franchise, which began in 2003, is coming up on the release of its fourth chapter, Underworld Awakening, on January 20.

The franchise has garnered die-hard fanatics over the last nine years with Kate Beckinsale – as the svelte, ass-kicking Selene - being not just the masturbatory fantasy of many a teenage boy, but a powerful female symbol as well. Each installment in the series is visually striking and unapologetically violent, reminiscent of a graphic novel come to life. The camerawork, lighting and production design give each entry a baroque and blue effect that has given the franchise a visual signature.

The Underworld films also embrace their R-rating wholeheartedly and are box office successes in spite of their rating. It’s all too often that contemporary horror films are watered down to appeal to the masses. Filmmakers are regularly sacrificing substance to get people in seats. It’s obvious that the creators...

Creatures of the Night Beware! Ghost Trek to Screen at Fright Night Film Fest
"Ghost Trek" can best be described as "Reno 911" meets "Ghost Hunters", and the show's gang of misfits are out to prove that they're the funniest bunch of paranormal researchers since Peter Venkman, Raymond Stantz and Egon Spengler. Those of you lucky enough to be in the Louisville area of the Bluegrass State on Saturday, July 23rd, will get your chance to have a sneak peek at the pilot!

With a tagline that basically sums up the series ("Ghost Trek": Paranormal research with an emphasis on bad taste), the Paranormal Underworld Detective Society (that's right, Puds) is portrayed by an incredibly eclectic group of individuals. Actors, reality stars and former professional wrestlers are among the cast members, each bringing their own unique talent to the program.

The pilot for the program, entitled "Ghost Trek: The Kinsey Report," will be featured at the Fright Night Film Festival in Louisville, Kentucky, this Saturday,...

‘He Loves Me’ Will Bring Together ‘Little Miss Sunshine’ Directors, Producers and Star Once More
Alan Arkin, Toni Collette, Greg Kinnear, Steve Carell, Paul Dano, and Abigail Breslin in Little Miss Sunshine (2006)
Little Miss Sunshine became a rare indie to mainstream crossover hit, and directors Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris haven't made another feature film since. Now they're set to finally move forward on another picture, called He Loves Me. And the movie is shaping up to be a full-fledged Lms reunion. The La Times [1] reveals that He Loves Me is written by Zoe Kazan, the real-life girlfriend of Little Miss Sunshine actor Paul Dano. Both will appear in He Loves Me, which is being produced by Albert Berger and Ron Yerxa, who also produced (you guessed it) Little Miss Sunshine. The film is about "a young novelist who achieves success early in his career but begins to face struggles. In a bid to overcome writer's block, he is told to write the woman he thinks will love him. He winds up willing her into existence." The Lat says "think Adaptation meets Weird Science.

Blu-Ray Review: Prequel ‘Underworld: Rise of the Lycans’ With Michael Sheen
Chicago – “Underworld: Rise of the Lycans” is easily one of the weirdest movies of 2009. It’s a werewolf movie that plays like a variation on “Gladiator” or “Spartacus” with the foundation of “Romeo & Juliet”. Solid work by the excellent Michael Sheen nearly redeems the film but an awful screenplay, dull design, and plodding direction sink this bizarre prequel.

Blu-Ray Rating: 1.0/5.0 How many people were really concerned with how the blood feud started between the vampires and the lycans that served as the foundation for the Kate Beckinsale “Underworld” films? Enough to spawn this unusual prequel, detailing the history of this centuries-old rivalry.

Underworld: Rise of the Lycans was released on Blu-Ray on May 12th, 2009.

Lycans used to be slaves for the Death Dealers, the aristocratic vampires led by the vicious Viktor (Bill Nighy). In the Dark Ages, a young Lycan named Lucien (Michael Sheen) develops a romance...
