A New BBC Thriller Is Winning Over Viewers!(Photo Credit –BBC)
There’s a fresh buzz shaking up British television, and its name is Reunion. This four-part BBC thriller isn’t just riding the wave of topical conversation. It’s rewriting the playbook entirely. With one foot planted in gripping, emotionally charged storytelling and the other firmly rooted in pushing the boundaries of representation, Reunion is doing more than entertaining. It’s making space.
Representation That Goes Beyond The Surface
What sets Reunion apart isn’t just the plot, though it is compelling. At its center is Daniel Brennan, a deaf man re-entering a world that has all but erased him after ten years in prison. With his community estranged and support systems shattered, Brennan’s quest for redemption or revenge pulls viewers into a narrative that’s as personal as it is thrilling. There's been plenty of topical discourse surrounding the latest BBC drama, Reunion. A brand-new four-part thriller, Reunion has one eye on delivering emotionally-packed entertainment and the other on representation within the industry. Poignantly, the show is made using Bsl (British Sign Language) and is one of the only shows on television to feature a deaf actor in the lead role, Matthew Gurney, alongside other deaf performers.
Written by William Mager and directed by Luke Snellin, the show perhaps transcends any critical feedback it could receive as something vitally important for the current industry. However, its critical success should still be celebrated, with the series already earning a huge early milestone. On review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, albeit from a small number of reviews to date, Reunion has already achieved a coveted perfect 100% rating. So far, many have celebrated the series for its ensemble performances, especially from the lead, Gurney, who truly...

Anne-Marie Duff is excited that her new project, the revenge thriller Reunion, will be airing on BBC One and available on iPlayer rather than a streaming platform. The series, which highlights the deaf community, will reach a broad audience, not just those who can afford streaming subscriptions.
Duff, who stars as Christine Mokhar, emphasized how important it is to have the series on a public broadcaster. “It’s the BBC, so you know, it’s going to be seen by everyone, not just people who can afford to pay streaming fees,” she said. “Watching TV has become quite an expensive hobby now. And just the idea, always and ever, that what we do can be important and that there’s a point to it, and anyone who feels marginalized gets to see themselves is a huge relief.”

There are far too many TV shows to keep up with these days, but the new Paramount+ series "MobLand" might just be worth squeezing into your schedule. Starring Tom Hardy, Pierce Brosnan, and Helen Mirren, the new show also benefits from Guy Ritchie's directorial flair and some incredibly sharp writing that's as witty and darkly funny as it is appropriately crass coming out of the mouths of some of London's most deranged gangsters.
Hardy plays professional conciliator for the Harrigan crime family, Harry Da Souza, who outside of his life as a mob lieutenant, is a family man who struggles with his work/life balance. One element of many that makes "Mobland" notable is its existence as a Tom Hardy project completely devoid of any weird Tom Hardy accents. Here, where he's not consumed by maintaining one of his "vocal silhouettes" as he calls them, he simply reminds us of his acting prowess,...

“There was something I liked about the script, and once I read it all, I knew this is the moment I’ve been waiting for for a good 20 years.” That’s what star Matthew Gurney told the crowd at London’s BFI Southbank on Thursday evening during a panel discussion following a screening of the first episode of the upcoming BBC revenge thriller Reunion, set in the deaf community.

Exclusive: Kevin Proctor, a British producer involved in making the Brian Epstein biopic Midas Man, appeared in court Wednesday to face a charge of stalking an actress.
The 46-year-old was present today at the Tameside Magistrates’ Court in the north of England, where he was accused of “stalking involving serious alarm/distress.” The charge relates to his treatment of Nicola Holt, an actress and model who has appeared in series including Viewpoint and Hollyoaks.
Proctor was due to enter a plea but applied for an adjournment on medical grounds. The court agreed to reschedule the plea hearing for May 30 at Wigan and Leigh Magistrates’ Court.
Proctor, who spoke to confirm his name and address, has been remanded on conditional bail until the hearing. To prevent witness interference or the obstruction of justice, the producer cannot contact Holt or enter Bolton, a town in Greater Manchester. Deadline has contacted Proctor for comment.

The Conjuring and Aquaman star Patrick Wilson's psychological thriller, A kind of Murder, will soon hit Max. The underrated murder mystery movie, which stars The Sinner and Blade: Trinity's Jessica Biel opposite Wilson, debuted in 2016 to less-than-stellar reviews from critics.
Audiences will have another chance to re-experience and re-evaluate A Kind of Murder when it arrives on Max on April 1. Directed by Andy Goddard from a screenplay by Susan Boyd, the film adapts Patricia Highsmith's 1954 novel The Blunderer. Wilson plays Walter Stackhouse, an architect and aspiring writer of short-story crime fiction, fascinated by the recent murder of the spouse of local bookstore owner Marty Kimmel. Biel portrays Walter's wife Clara Stackhouse, who apparently commits suicide not far from the restaurant parking lot where Kimmel's wife was murdered. A police investigation led by Detective Lawrence Corby ensues, as both husbands are suspected of being involved in the deaths of both women.

Written and produced by deaf creator William Mager, Series Mania premiere “Reunion” never leaves its lead’s side.
“I’ve seen stories of deaf characters told from a hearing person’s point of view. This show says what it means to be a deaf person from the point of view of a deaf person,” says Luke Snellin, who directed the series.
“What is it like to sit in front of a probation officer, explaining you’re deaf? We would take the sound away or put the camera behind his head and over his ear – precisely to put the audience in his shoes.”
Mager adds: “When you are deaf, communication is difficult anyway. But it’s also difficult to talk about things that happened to you, things that are hard to process. It can be hard to open up.”
Especially for his tortured protagonist, played by Matthew Gurney: fresh out...

Reunion is a revenge drama about a deaf man determined to right his wrongs and it breaks new ground for a mainstream drama with its cast and crew and bilingual mix of spoken English and British Sign Language.
Writer William Mager tells Deadline the show “starts as a typical thriller, but by the end it’s morphed into something much more emotional, much more personal.” The Sheffield-born deaf writer adds that the elements relating to the deaf character and community were “easy to write, because you’re writing your own truth.”

Guy Ritchie's underrated spy comedy film starring Jason Statham will soon have a new streaming home. Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre will be available on Peacock on April 28.
Released in 2023, Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre sees special agent and elite spy Orson Fortune (Statham) working to retrieve a stolen high-tech device called "The Handle" before an arms dealer (Hugh Grant) can auction it off to the highest bidder. In order to get back The Handle, Orson assembles an elite team of undercover agents. In addition to Statham and Grant, the film stars Aubrey Plaza, Josh Hartnett, Cary Elwes, Bugzy Malone and Eddie Marsan. Ritchie wrote, directed and produced.
The theatrical release of Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre faced several setbacks around the world. It was reported that the film was pulled from release because of its depiction of Ukrainian gangsters being the main antagonists working with Grant's villainous character.

One of the best movies in the repertoire of Jason Statham is all set to hit free streaming. The action star continues to fight the good fight for no-nonsense thrills, but 2021’s Wrath of Man is a little more complex than The Stath’s usual fare. The actor has become well-known for his particular set of skills, expertly throwing his fists, feet and bullets at anyone who dares cross his path, but his movies are often divisive among critics and audiences. Well, this action thriller finds the two groups in agreement: it’s great.
Directed by Guy Ritchie in his fourth collaboration with Jason Statham, and co-written by Ritchie, Ivan Atkinson, and Marn Davies, Wrath of Man boasts an impressive supporting cast that includes Holt McCallany, Jeffrey Donovan, Chris Reilly, Josh Hartnett, Laz Alonso, Raúl Castillo, DeObia Oparei, Eddie Marsan, and Scott Eastwood. Snow White had been kicking around for centuries before the Brothers Grimm immortalized her story in print in their seminal 1812 collection of fairy tales. It’s also a tale that Hollywood has found irresistible. There were two Snow White silent films in 1902 and 1916, decades before Walt Disney’s Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs broke new ground as a full-length animated film in 1937. Since then, Disney’s take on Snow White has defined the character’s presence in pop culture.
Beyond Disney’s version, there have been plenty of other attempts to bring the story to the big screen. That includes some wild swings, like Snow White and the Three Stooges in 1961. Then in 2012, there were two big-budget productions of Snow White that went head-to-head: Mirror, Mirror and Snow White and the Huntsman. Prime Video has officially announced that Jamie Campbell Bower will be joining the cast of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power for its third season. Bower, known for his work in Stranger Things and The Mortal Instruments, will take on a central role as a series regular. Filming is set to begin this spring at Shepperton Studios in the UK.
Bower’s involvement marks a shift from his previous appearances in fantasy franchises. His portrayal of the young Gellert Grindelwald in the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts films was limited to brief moments, leaving little room for development. In contrast, The Rings of Power is expected to provide him with a far more substantial role.

Last week it was announced that Jamie Campbell Bower, the actor best known for playing the monstrous villain Vecna on Stranger Things, was making the leap to Middle-earth. Campbell Bower has officially joined the cast of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power for its third season, along with Eddie Marsan (Ray Donovan). It's still too early to be certain who Campbell Bower is playing, but a new rumor stoked by the actor himself puts him in the shoes of one of the most iconic villains in the Lord of the Rings saga: the Witch-king of Angmar.
Gamesradar+ noticed that Campbell Bower had made a change to his X profile sometime during the past week, changing his bio to simply read "Witch King." This is obviously not anything concrete; would Campbel Bower really give away the game in such a simple way without any official reveal by Amazon?...

Jamie Campbell Bower and Eddie Marsan are about to get in the ring...of power, that is. The acclaimed British actors are no strangers to fantasy and genre fare, given the former's time on Stranger Things and the latter's time appearing in, well, seemingly everything else, but neither have played in the acclaimed and beloved universe of author J. R. R. Tolkien — until now.
That's right, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power has upped the star power ante in season three, tapping Bower and Marsan to join the cast for the series' next installment. The show is currently in pre-production in England, working out of a new home in Shepperton Studios. I hope Jamie Campbell Bower and Eddie Marsan have enough room in their bellies for a second-breakfast because they’re joining the cast of Prime Video’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 3. Bower, who plays the Freddy Krueger-like villain Henry Creel/Vecna in Netflix’s Stranger Things, boards the show as a series regular, while Marsan will recur in new episodes of the big-budget fantasy series.
Details about their respective roles are scarce. However, the scoopers at Deadline hear that Bower plays a significant role in upcoming events as a “handsome high-born knight (code name Arlen). He may play a new love interest for Galadriel (Morfydd Clark), who, after the events of Season 2, continues to grapple with the fact that her previous love, Hallbrand (Charlie Vickers), is Sauron. From the Upside Down to Middle-earth, Jamie Campbell Bower is trading in Vecna’s twisted world for the vast landscapes of Amazon’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. Bower, best known for his horrifically twisted portrayal of Henry Creel/Vecna in Stranger Things, has officially joined the cast of Season 3 of the epic fantasy series on Prime Video. He will be joined by Eddie Marsan, the veteran actor known for Ray Donovan and Deadpool 2. While Bower is set to be a series regular, Marsan will take on a recurring role. To be honest, Bower is good casting as he definitely has an Elvish appearance to him.

This is a match made in genre heaven — Jamie Campbell Bower, star of Netflix’s blockbuster supernatural drama Stranger Things, is joining one of biggest fantasy franchises of all time. Bower has been tapped as a series regular for the upcoming third season of Prime Video’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. Additionally, Ray Donovan alum Eddie Marsan is set to recur on the new season, which is currently in pre-production.
As usual, details about the role are being kept under wraps but I hear Bower plays Rings of Power’s biggest new cast addition, a character described as a handsome high-born knight (code name Arlen) in casting information that has been circulated around. He could be a new love interest for Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) who spent the second season facing the reality of her Season 1 love interest Halbrand’s (Charlie Vickers) true identity as arch-villain Sauron.

The thriller is an emotional thriller of revenge and redemption following the journey of Daniel Brennan, played by Matthew Gurney, a deaf man determined to right his wrongs while unravelling the truth behind the events that led him to prison. Brennan embodies the struggle of a man caught between two worlds, unable to fully integrate into the hearing world and shunned by his closest friends and the wider deaf community following his heinous crime. Amidst this isolation, Brennan’s only meaningful relationship is with his estranged daughter Carly, played by Lara Peake, who he has not had any contact with since his arrest over a decade ago.

The film, which won Downey the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy, went on to spawn a sequel, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows. Cumberbatch played the famous detective in the BBC's crime drama series created by Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss, with Martin Freeman as Watson. Cumberbatch's Sherlock was also successful, winning multiple Emmys and a Peabody Award.

If any backstage pop institution deserves a biopic of his or her own, it would be Brian Epstein, the Beatles’ tragic manager, champion, and supporter through rough and giddy times alike. Epstein has been portrayed here and there in films, but Midas Man (available on streaming services starting today) is the first full feature devoted to him. But in light of music-biopic mania and the ongoing...

Almost anyone who grew up with the Beatles knows a few key things about their manager, Brian Epstein, the subject of the new biopic “Midas Man.” You might know that he ran a popular record store in Liverpool when he first saw the Beatles perform at the Cavern Club and realized that it was his destiny to manage them. Or the visionary way he spearheaded the Beatles’ international career, cutting the deal for them to appear on “The Ed Sullivan Show.” Or the fact that Epstein was gay, something he kept well-hidden.

Although Beatlemania typically refers to the initial hype around the iconic band, one could argue that it’s had a second coming recently with a slew of other Beatles-focused media from filmmakers like Peter Jackson and Martin Scorsese. With a conventional screenplay and many limitations because of its budget, Midas Man is charming nonetheless thanks to a strong lead performance and a bountiful helping of nostalgia for one of the most iconic bands in the world.
Midas Man Review
Midas Man tells the story of Brian Epstein, the entrepreneur who — despite no experience in the music industry — discovered The Beatles in a Liverpool bar and became their manager, launching them into superstardom. While this claims not to be a Beatles biopic, it sure focuses a lot on Epstein’s time with the band, although who can blame the filmmakers? That’s what sells tickets.
