Italian directors Marco and Antonio Manetti, a.k.a. the Manetti Bros. and best known for the “Diabolik” franchise, are producing the next film by “Orlando” filmmaker Daniele Vicari. The film, titled “You Get Tired of Killing,” is based on the life of a real-life gangster who grew tired of being in charge of running the Mafia’s dirty business.
Speaking exclusively with Variety at the International Film Festival Rotterdam, where they are the subject of a career-spanning retrospective, the directing duo confirmed “You Get Tired of Killing” is in pre-production. The film is being produced by Mompracem, the production company run by the Manettis alongside German sales company Beta Film and actor/producer Pier Giorgio Bellocchio, the son of Italian director Marco Bellocchio.
Vicari, whose previous work includes “Diaz — Don’t Clean Up This Blood,” “Velocità Massima” and Venice Film Festival award-winning “The Human Cargo,” joins a growing talent roster at Mompracem.

International Film Festival Rotterdam has revealed that Belgian cinematographer Grimm Vandekerckhove will be the recipient of the fifth annual Robby Müller Award, which pays homage to the craft of artists working behind the lens in the spirit of the celebrated cinematographer.
Vandekerckhove is “known for delicately capturing the inner lives of characters,” the festival said, such as a cleaning lady on a late-night journey in “Ghost Tropic” or the encounter of a foreign construction worker and a moss researcher in “Here,” both directed by Bas Devos. He also shot Stephan Streker’s “A Wedding,” about a teenager forced into an arranged marriage.
“With profound commitment and a wondrous tranquillity he captures details and hidden shades of everyday existence in his own singular way that mirrors the emotionally moving images of Robby Müller,” the jury stated.

Having completed the long-awaited Diabolik, brothers Marco and Antonio Manetti are now producing a horror comedy on behalf of Mompracem, directed by a former colleague of theirs. The Manettis, who only recently completed the hotly anticipated work Diabolik (read our news), also penned the screenplay to the present work, alongside Paolo Logli and Alessandro Pondi. Love and Bullets (Ammore e malavita) is what non-Italians might call a Mafia musical, though its Naples setting means the warbling criminals onscreen are technically part of the Camorra. Directed by the Manetti Bros. — who style their name like that, with the abbreviated English “Bros.,” even in Italian — this is, for all its longueurs, some ill-advised detours into English and a few tone-deaf jokes, a surprisingly enjoyable package. Indeed, Love and Bullets is this year’s best-received Italian film in the Venice competition so far and with the festival as its launch pad, it should do solid business when...

Well here it is. After hinting at some of the films on Twitter and promising that this will be unlike any top ten you see this year, I’ve finally compiled my Top 10 films of 2012. However, I originally compiled my list before seeing Pitch Perfect, which I felt Had to be included in this list; therefore my choices for ninth and tenth film on the list now share tenth place.
I’ve also included a hell of a lot of honorable mentions (enough to take this up to a Top 25 if I had included them all), three of which are short films. Three short films which happen to be the best I’ve seen in years and give some of the feature-length films released this year a run for their money. Consider everything on this list a recommendation of the highest order…
The Top 10 in full:

I’ve also included a hell of a lot of honorable mentions (enough to take this up to a Top 25 if I had included them all), three of which are short films. Three short films which happen to be the best I’ve seen in years and give some of the feature-length films released this year a run for their money. Consider everything on this list a recommendation of the highest order…

The second film from the Manetti Brothers’ whose The Arrival of Wang played Frightfest Glasgow and is scheduled as part of the Re-Discovery Screen at London Frightfest 2012, Paura 3D (literally translated as Fear 3D) is billed as a 3D thrill ride into terror and whilst the film has its moments (no matter how minor), it cannot compare to the sheer brilliance of the Manetti’s sci-fi opus Wang.
Paura 3D tells the story of mechanic Ale, who after overhearing a conversation between a wealthy customer and the garage owner, takes his best friends, Simone and Marco on a trip to the wealthy owners Rome villa intent on having a wild weekend in his luxury mansion. Bored after raiding the fridge, swimming in the pool and...

Tender and savage, shocking and brutal, Manetti Bros. pile on the fear factor in Paura 3D.
When mechanic Ale overhears a conversation between a wealthy customer and the garage owner, he knows what he and his two best mates Simone and Marco are going to do for the next few days. For Marquis Lanzi wants his best car serviced while he goes on a short holiday and before long the trio are driving to his Rome villa intent on having a wild weekend in total luxury. But as they start raiding the fridge, swimming in the pool and playing video games without a care in the world something is about to happen that will change their lives forever. No, no, please don’t look in the basement…

“The Arrival of Wang” is screening at Film4 Frightfest in London on Saturday 25th August with directors the Manetti brothers in attendance, and will be released via Saffron Hill Films on UK DVD 8th October 2012 after premiering on VOD in September. “The Arrival of Wang” (“L’Arrivo di Wang”) is an Italian science fiction outing from brotherly writer director team Marco and Antonio Manetti, a high concept piece of fun inspired by the likes of “The X Files” and “The Twilight Zone”. Having helmed “Zora the Vampire” and the upcoming giallo “Paura 3D”, the brothers have placed themselves firmly at the forefront of a revival of Italian genre cinema, and though the film works on a number of different levels, it’s first and foremost one for the fans, and clearly made by fans. Given that the film is one which revolves around certain twists, for those who wish to...

Last Friday saw the final line-up for this years London Film4 FrightFest, aka FrightFest the 13th, announced to an eagerly awaiting public – myself included. Comprised of a huge three screens this year it’s going to be tough making those hard choices over which films to see over others. So, with that in mind I thought I’d bring you a Top 10 of unmissable movies at the 2012 FrightFest… Of course as with every FrightFest, there’s always a couple of films that fly under everyone’s radar and turn out to be The must-see movies of the year!
10) We Are the Night
Think The Lost Boys set in Germany, but with female vampires instead of Keifer Sutherland and co. and you have We Are the Night. After attacking passengers on a flight to Paris, vampire trio Louise, Charlotte and Nora arrive in Germany. Leader of the pack Louise has been...

Audiences at this year’s Film 4 FrightFest event at the Glasgow film Festival are in for a treat as no less than six directors will be attending.
One of the most eagerly anticipated movies in the Film4 FrightFest Glasgow line-up is The Raid. This action film to end all action films is virtually guaranteed to blow the roof off the Glasgow Film Theatre with its ramped up sequences of super-exhilaration and has already been snapped up for a major Hollywood remake. So we are thrilled to welcome Welshman director Gareth Evans to Scotland, via his home in Indonesia, to discuss all things Glock and roll and star Iko Uwais.
Crawl director Paul China and his producer brother Ben China are travelling from Australia to share the excitement their superbly slow-burning thriller is currently generating across the globe.
