Saul Goodman is perhaps one of (if not the most) compelling characters in the world of Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. The idea of a prequel series to one of the most critically acclaimed and iconic television shows of all time sounds like a horrible concept on paper. Still, in practice, co-creator Peter Gould's spin-off series Better Call Saul ended up being just as impressively written and acted as the legendary show that preceded it. However, if one television executive had his way, Saul Goodman might have never come into existence.
Entertainment Weekly received an exclusive excerpt from Saul Goodman v. Jimmy McGill, a new book written by TV critic Alan Sepinwall, that offers a comprehensive deep dive into the making of this hit prequel series. In a section of the book, it's revealed that Gould was reluctant when first writing the character's debut in Breaking Bad, and...

Created by Vince Gilligan, Breaking Bad is one of the finest television shows ever. It stars Bryan Cranston as Walter White, a chemistry teacher who enters the drug business. Meanwhile, actor Dean Norris played Hank Schrader, Walter’s brother-in-law, and a DEA agent, with the duo finding themselves on a collision course.

In the show’s third season, Norris had to film an extremely challenging scene which also became one of the show’s most tense moments. In an interview, the actor spoke about the challenges of filming the scene without any dialog and basing his performance on the director’s notes. Here is what Norris had to say about the challenge of filming the scene.

Scott Kelly, the astronaut who until recently held the American record for longest spaceflight, spent at least some of his time aboard the Iss thinking about “Breaking Bad.” NASA will set up calls for the astronauts in orbit with interesting people they want to talk to; so, unlike all “Breaking Bad” fans stuck on Earth, Kelly was able to talk with Vince Gilligan and Brian Cranston — and, as it turns out, director/producer Michelle MacLaren, who was in the room and would remember Kelly when she set out to direct the first two episodes of Apple TV+’s “Constellation.”
Brought on as an advisor to the Noomi Rapace thriller, Kelly sat in Zoom meetings with the “Constellation” production team and also traveled to set to help keep even the zero-gravity scenes grounded in reality. He still has his Soyuz re-entry manual, which he gave to the crew, “so when Jo...

"Nippy" is a highly underrated Better Call Saul episode. The slow pacing and quiet nature of "Nippy" led to a mixed audience reception, but it's a great exploration of Jimmy McGill's psyche. "Nippy" shares similarities with Breaking Bad's "Fly" episode, showcasing the shows' versatility and ability to subvert audience expectations.
A lot of Better Call Saul fans seemed to really hate season 6, episode 10, Nippy, but I think its massively underrated and a great episode of television. Season 6 marked the end of Better Call Sauls run, and it was burdened with wrapping up both the pre-Breaking Bad Lalo Salamanca storyline and the black-and-white post-Breaking Bad Nebraska Gene storyline. The wrap-up of the Lalo storyline was just as thrilling and action-packed as anything in Breaking Bad, but the wrap-up of the Gene storyline was much quieter and more contemplative than Breaking Bad ever was.

Vince Gilligan’s Breaking Bad is still remembered by fans for being one of the best drama series of all time. Delving into the story of Walter White/Heisenberg, the series saw the chemistry teacher become one of the biggest suppliers of pure crystal meth in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
The narrative, comprising a total of 5 seasons, gave viewers some of the goriest, most dramatic scenes of all time. This includes the glorious fifth episode of Season 5, Dead Freight, which saw Walter White and his crew pull off an incredible methylamine raid that they needed to produce well, Crystal Meth.

It had been a minute since Anna Gunn felt the anticipation of an intriguing script hitting her inbox. Understandably, the incomparable writing she received for a combined decade on Deadwood and Breaking Bad set a high bar. But then the Colin Farrell-led Apple TV+ series Sugar came along.
Created by Mark Protosevich and executive produced by Audrey Chon/Simon Kinberg, the neo-noir show ended up being one of a couple recent Breaking Bad reunions for Gunn. Co-heads of Apple TV+ programming, Jamie Erlicht and Zack Van Amburg, served as presidents at Sony Pictures Television when Vince Gilligan walked through their doors with his Breaking Bad pilot script, and on top of having a hand in Gunn joining Sugar, the two executives have been busy recruiting their former Breaking Bad collaborators to their acclaimed streamer, including Gilligan and his still-untitled upcoming series; Jonathan Banks and director-ep Michelle MacLaren for Constellation...

The new Apple TV+ series “Constellation” is a space drama, a category in which its deep-pocketed platform has developed something of a preoccupation. But the show also exemplifies a type of series so recognizable it’s become practically a genre unto itself: a story that calls for the concision of a feature film that’s been stretched out to fill a TV-sized number of episodes.
“Constellation” stars Noomi Rapace as Jo Ericsson, an astronaut who survives a deadly collision at the International Space Station — only to experience disturbing visions back on Earth. The what/why/how of Jo’s experience in orbit could make for a gripping mystery, but creator and sole screenwriter Peter Harness stretches these questions over eight hours, killing their momentum and stretching the show’s worthwhile elements far too thin.

One of the very first sounds of Apple TV+’s Constellation is a woman’s terrified voice on a cassette tape, insisting in Russian that “the world is the wrong way around.” As statements go, it’s completely impenetrable — what does that mean? — an only more upsetting for it. It is, in short, the perfect way to set the tone for a series that, if nothing else, excels at tapping into the uncanny.
Over the season’s eight hour-long episodes, time goes missing, reflections refuse to do as they’re told, the dead return to life and then vanish again. It’s no wonder astronaut Jo Ericsson (Noomi Rapace) feels so unmoored from the Earth that she’s returned to — and for a while, Constellation runs on the sheer unsettling thrill of watching Jo try to puzzle out what’s really going on. But vibes only go so far when satisfying answers aren’t forthcoming,...

Constellation is not about prostates in space. The eight-part Apple TV+ psychological, sci-fi action-drama stars Noomi Rapace as troubled astronaut Jo Ericsson. Jo is battling Ptsd after a deadly mishap on the International Space Station, and life back on Earth is proving to be taxing. For starters, nothing “feels” the same. Jo’s daughter and husband are by her side, and other colleagues and friends offer support, but something feels off. Worse, Jo’s plagued by memory fragments of what she experienced in space. The new Apple TV+ drama Constellation has atmosphere to spare. What it lacks is a story to live up to its creepy vibe.

Directing Noomi Rapace in zero-gravity in a replica of the International Space Station in a character-driven dramatic sci-fi thriller with touches of horror and quantum physics. Apparently, that’s how Michelle MacLaren tops being one of the best producers of Breaking Bad and directing solid TV hits like Better Call Saul, The Morning Show, The Walking Dead, and Games of Thrones. It was all in the stars for the director/producer, who teamed up with Peter Harness, the ambitious showrunner behind Apple TV+’s sci-fi thriller Constellation.

Jonathan Banks's role in "Constellation" is a chance to make up for his disappointing 60-second cameo in "The Expanse" 9 years ago. "Constellation" is an exciting sci-fi project created by Peter Harness and directed by Michelle MacLaren, and it also includes elements from the horror genre. Jonathan Banks will play a Nobel Prize-winning physicist in "Constellation" named Henry, who is involved in Jo's research and will have a significant role in the show's plot.
Jonathan Banks's role in the upcoming sci-fi series Constellation might be the perfect way of making amends for what happened nine years ago on another science-fiction TV show. Constellation is Apple TV+'s new sci-fi project created by Peter Harness and directed by Michelle MacLaren, which is pretty exciting. Constellation's trailer already suggests the show will also include some elements from the horror genre, which is also something interesting about this upcoming release.

There are few hours of television more heart-poundingly tense than the "Breaking Bad" train robbery episode "Dead Freight." When I saw it for the first time, a relative came home to find me excitedly pacing around the living room, trying to shake off the massive adrenaline rush that came from watching Walter White (Bryan Cranston) and Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul) pull off a seamless methylamine heist, only to have the moment undercut by rogue associate Todd's (Jesse Plemons) last-minute decision to murder a child who witnessed the crime. "Dead Freight" was thrilling a decade ago and it's still thrilling today. Somehow, though, I don't think it would've worked as well if it had involved a helicopter and a big vacuum hose.
